This is literally a hole-in-the-wall, but one you don't want to miss. Great local Hawaiian favorites. We got the LBS combo with ahi poke, smoked salmon, and kalua pork; and the inari pack. I was initially skeptical of the brown rice in both, but it proved to be very good. The poke was fresh and the kalua pork was on point. I was bummed the were sold out of the kalbi, so will have to try it next. A lot of people do take out, since there is no seating. However, they have several standing tables that we ate at, so it had a similar feel to a food truck. read more

I had this place picked out for a while on my Yelp but never had time to stop until today...& now it's all I can think about! Sure it might just look like a dive sushi spot off the side of the road in Kaneohe but it's so much more than that! Parking is free right in the plaza it's located in. They have a window with a menu with helpful photos if you don't want to look at your Yelp menu on your phone, and I don't know about you but a picture says a thousand words about food! Everything looked so delicious so it was really hard to choose what I wanted to get, but I decided on the lava roll which was OUTSTANDING! It took about 10 minutes to get and was nicely wrapped in a secure container with napkins and chopsticks for me to safely drive home and eat. Well...that was the plan until I got to the car and got one glance of that sushi roll and couldn't even make it out of the parking lot! (Seriously I ate it before I thought about taking a picture!) The combos are really good deals, and it's great to get three scoops of different poke plus a shrimp tempura to switch up the texture. I liked the smoked fish salad. Really reminds me of the whitefish salad which is a fixture of NYC jewish delis. read more

I thought this little place was very good as far as selection goes very good choices. Portions was small but for the price very reasonable and you all know fish is not cheap anywhere. I was a bit surprised when I got my food (we had ordered over the phone for pick up) because this is a literal hole in the wall, but the food was delicious. The poke bowls were yummy (they were one of the few places with my favorite, unagi, as an option), but if you order a platter, the rolls are roughly a dollar a piece, though generously stuffed. LBS has made a fan outta me! Like others are saying, they are located in the same building as Pah-Ke's, where Lee's Drive-In used to be, so just watch out for them. Their sign is hard to find because it's black against green background. :) As many also said, LBS Special is the shieeeet. If you're hungry, it might not be filling. I remember eating it and I was like, "Man, I wish I had more." But it's definitely cool, and they fill up on the brown rice. The bread pudding is also some of the best I've ever had in my LIFE. Seriously. It comes warm with a caramel sauce and it's delicious and I can't stop thinking about it lol. The poke tastes fresh, but not huge cuts of it-- which is alright, but I wish the portions were a little bigger/cuts of fish a little more. It's OK though, because it tastes fresh and it's delicious and well-seasoned so that's all that matters. The spicy ahi isn't too spicy, which is nice and refreshing, and works well when you mix 'em all. They do take credit cards, which is a plus. :) I can't wait to try more of LBS's food. The only disappointing thing is that they aren't open later in the day, cause that would be bomb and it makes me a little sad :( And I wish their portions were bigger. All about Mr. Lee's cheeseburgers from my childhood. Soo happy that they took on the recipe and carrying on with providing the best cheeseburgers on the island! The next best thing is the smoked salmon. It has all umami in one bite plus the smokiness. 3rd must have here is the butterscotch bread pudding(drool...) This is hands down my favorite sushi and poke spot on the island. I can probably eat their spicy ahi every day. They do fantastic catering and are extremely friendly (and cool) people. The Pantastico brothers are full of integrity and committed to great food and great service. They also serve the original burgers and fries with the Teri sauce that used to be made there. On my way to Windward Mall, I stumbled upon this small sushi shop. As an active sushi-goer, I knew I needed to try this place out. After my first time here, I'm now an active Local Boy Sushi-goer. The sushi is very well made. My favorite thing has to be the smoked salmon salad that they serve. I can literally see myself eating that everyday. Sometimes I get the LBS special with smoked salmon salad, spicy ahi, and smoked meat (yes I said it). The service is great, and the staff there are very friendly. We had the Bradah bowl, which had your choice of 5 different variety of protein on top of rice. We got the eel, Kailua pork, shrimp tempura, grilled meat, and the ahi poke. The eel and the tempura were the star of our dish. The fish were fresh and the meat had good flavor. They only use brown rice here, which is a healthy choice, but I do prefer to have my poke and meats with white rice instead. The portions were pretty good for the price. I'm so tempted to check into this place but I didn't actually step foot into this hole-in-the-wall restaurant. My bff suggested we get some LBS bowls and when she says try it, you gotta try it! I mean, do you know who Aimee is? #superelite lol Anyways, the food was so ONO! The rice was a perfect mixture and I'm pretty sure it was hapa...not too sticky or loose. I got the spicy ahi, ahi poke and Kalbi combo...delicious! The Kalbi was so tender and I like that it wasn't bone-in. No meat stuck on my teeth here. The poke and spicy ahi were cut into these cute little chunks. Did I mention the combo comes with a drink? Wow...for $8 it seemed like a steal! The ahi and salmon here are pretty good quality, reminds of poke from genki sushi, they have an okay selection of sushi, as well as some cooked meat including Kalbi and barbecue chicken! The food is good but the line can take long if there are a lot of people ordering. There's two standing tables outside but not much of a dining area, better to take out in my opinion. This place has good food and good prices ($9 for 3 choice plate lunch and $15 for 5 choice plate lunch). I found the 3 choice combo the perfect size but my friend found it a little bit small. I LOVE this place. I work once a week at a salon nearby and from the first time I've tried Local Boy Sushi, I was hooked. It became my new lunch spot. I actually look forward to the days I work in Kaneohe mainly for Local Boy Sushi (shh don't tell the boss.) I've since got my co-workers hooked as well! It's a small hole-in-the-wall place, literally. It's very easy to miss. It is located in the little center right next to the post office. If you see the post office then know you are within steps to LBS. Parking is not bad. There's usually a few stalls open. This place is NOT a restaurant. Do not expect to "dine in" or be seated when you arrive. You order the food through a hole-in-the-wall (told you it was literal), wait for your food to be ready, then take it to go or stand around the sidewalk on one of their tall tables out front. FOOD: I always order an LBS bowl which comes w/ your choice of three meats and a drink. They only use brown rice too for all you healthy yelpers (even if you don't care for brown rice like me, there's is GOOD!) I've tried their unagi--which is bomb, smoked salmon--must try, smoked meat, kalbi, ahi poke, and spicy ahi poke. My go to that I constantly crave is a combination of unagi, smoked salmon, and spicy ahi. I sometimes change it up but not by much, its always unagi, w/ one choice of smoked, and one choice of poke. **call your order in to skip the wait** On another note, my brother used Local Boy Sushi to cater for a Sushi Birthday celebration. I tried the Lava Bowl, Big Braddah Bowl, and the Bread Pudding. The Lava Bowl was simply a flavorful classic that makes you dream for more! The Big Braddah Bowl has so many amazing different flavors that you will not be disappointed by the variety in one meal.
