I'm reviewing again because my previous one deleted somehow. There are very few cafes that have their own latte art, and for that reason alone, you should visit. But obviously, you're going to continue to visit because their drinks are also creative and tasty! I haven't tried their food yet. They also have limited outdoor seating which can get pretty hot so I prefer to take mine to go. They're a situated next to a large paid parking lot, but if you plan to be quick and have someone waiting in the car, I recommend parking right outside and sending someone in for your drinks.

Great walking distance with everything else, pick me up coffee treat while exploring china town! Got the royal hawaiian iced. Usually go to the kapolei location, same great tasting products. Only thing is that the bathroom is oddly super dim... all for ambience but it was very low lighting in there. Clean but dim.

I ordered large latte, they only have one type of like whole milk and the drink tastes mostly like milk, no coffee taste. If you like milk, it is ok place

The coolest coffee shop ever! They can transfer any pic to your coffee. The service is a plus here. The staff is so friendly and helpful. Love that about this place. The coffee shop also has its own unique decor and vibe here. Not too big but they have chairs outside to hangout on. The parking is paid parking right outside or to find street parking. I tried the Audrey Hepburn iced latte and it was good. The taste was super good and not too strong. I can't wait to taste everything else

Cute coffee stop on the edge of chinatown! There's a good selection of drinks from classic offerings to seasonal, more creative ones. I got the royal hawaiian mocha with oat milk. It was a bit sweet for my liking but the flavors went great together.

Our go to place for a quick grab and go coffee to start an early weekend morning! Hours are: M-F 6:30AM - 2:00PM Sat & Sun 8:00AM - 1:00PM Convenient parking right outside for quick pick-up & go orders! Coffee comes out hot & fresh! Lots of latte art to choose from. Breakfast menu is available if you want a quick bite to eat. Limited indoor and outdoor seating available!

Local Joe is a coffee shop located on the edge of Chinatown on Smith and Marin. It's a pretty popular spot, and there's limited parking available on the street or in a paid lot. The cafe itself is kind of small so there are a few tables indoors and outdoors; I visited on a weekend morning and it was pretty packed, so wasn't able to find an open spot. I placed an online order for a turkey pesto sandwich and Thai latte with oat milk, and took a bit to be noticed by staff. I told them I was there to pick up my order placed 30 minutes ago, and then they started making my order (which took around 15-20 minutes). Then the owner (I believe) as he gave me my order mentioned they replaced the oat milk with macadamia milk, which I'm allergic to. I asked for it to be remade, which took a bit of time; it would have been nice if they asked me first before making the substitution, esp since I was waiting right there! When I did dig into my order, the Thai latte was too sweet imo and I felt that the coffee wasn't strong enough. The turkey pesto sandwich was ok! Overall was a little frustrated with the online ordering process and wasn't a fan of their drinks, but would be willing to go back to try their sandwiches!

Got here because I saw they had breakfast burritos so like any man, I ran to this place to get a breakfast burrito. I was greeted by this cool dude that spelt my name wrong but no harm since it happens a lot anyways. I then notice they have a turkey bacon breakfast burrito for $15. Just bit into this thing my tastebuds were graced by Tostitos or ragu salsa and the taste of the same ham Papa John's puts on their pizzas. Burrito was alright. Pesto sandwich was better. Both were way too expensive for the experience. Tap water was $.50

We came here two days in a row because it was a short walk from where we were staying. The specialty coffees were very good! The staff was helpful and allowed us to substitute ingredients in the breakfast burrito. It was nice that it came with avocado and salsa on the side. The breakfast croissant was tasty too and the croissant was flaky. We came back the next day and ordered an avocado bagel with cream cheese and bacon. Those were pre made and sitting in a glass container which I thought was odd. When I got it, it was very hot and I wasn't expecting the avocado and cream cheese being very hot. There was not a lot of cream cheese and I did not like having the items hot. I couldn't finish it which was disappointing. The ambiance inside is very cute and chill. The service was ok. I would still recommend coming here, but not for the abc bagel.

This place is a gem! Coffee is amazing but they did run out of the 100% Hawaii coffee of the day... nothin wrong with the American Joe however! The mixed berry smoothie was very tasty as well. The fruit cup was reasonably priced and tasty! No underripe or overripe fruit. The bagel and lox sandwich was well prepared with red onions and capers included. Note; as is usual for 99.9% of places, this is really a bagel with cold smoked salmon ('nova'). True 'lox' (or 'gravlax') is salted or brined. Regardless it was a delicious sandwich! And finally the chocolate chip scone was perfect; not too dry and not too soft. There are gluten free, dairy free, and paleo options for drinks and food for those who are interested. However, I did not ask if the gluten free options were prepared in a 100% gluten free environment/manner for those who have true Celiac disease. A final note; while not on the menu there was a Kambucha mini fridge with what looked like draft taps coming out of the top... but it was in the corner and not on the menu... not sure if that's something they use or will use in the future. read more

The coffee is great, the family who runs the shop is nice, but the 2 stars is for the fact that they have messed up on our orders on multiple occasions already. What is the point of writing out our drink order on a piece of paper if you're not even going to give me the correct drink? My suggestion: write the order directly on the cup so there's no confusion. Plus, from my experience working at Starbucks, it is much faster and more efficient to write the order on the cup. So many times already I've ordered a soy vanilla latte and didn't get the soy or the vanilla. We also ordered a Bagel and Lox without tomato, the cashier even wrote on the pastry bag "no tom," and we still got a Bagel and Lox with tomato. ‍ They also very rarely clean the steaming wand. That is a big No-No. read more

I heard they had good coffee and that they do. I stopped by with my nieces and they got me an americano, omg it was so good. They have food also but I just got the drink. Parking is a bear, luckily there was a spot in front, says no parking but I just ran in for coffees. They roast there own coffee, I love that smell. read more

We checked this place out on our way hiking and they are really cute. I ordered lox/bagels and my brother got an omelet. Mine was delicious! Everything i expected. However, my brothers omelet took forever. Not really sure what happened there? It's not the end of the world except, we wanted to eat together. Either I wait for him and my food get cold or he eats after me? Which is what we did. Oh well.... read more

My wife wanted manapuas from downtown Honolulu, so I went with her and we found this coffee spot (which was a nice break from the pricier tourist spots in Waikiki). The coffee was good - from what I can tell they switch up blends daily - although it isn't drip coffee, it's an americano. That said, it was delicious! I also got a breakfast croissant there - bacon, organic egg and provolone. That was very good as well. Technically I'd give this 4.5 stars but that's not an option so let's round up. read more

We needed some time kill before our lunch at a nearby restaurant so walked into this cafe while we were trying to figure out what to do. I was pleasantly surprised by the cute ambiance and amazing latte! Not only was their latte delicious but omg the latte art!! I almost didn't want to drink my latte because I didn't want to ruin it. You can also tell that they use good quality beans. Try it a cup of Joe next time you're in the area! read more

This is a truly great little coffee shop. Coffee was fantastic (first good coffee we've had in HI; staying in Waikiki where everything is terrible). They do a fun thing where you can send them a picture to "print" in your cappuccino foam. The scones were delicious! read more

I visited this local coffee shop while on vacation, & it was so great! They immediately caught my attention on yelp by the latte stamping photos. I got the Thai Latte, and it was delicious! I told them I didn't like overly sweet coffee, & this definitely delivered. It was just a hint of sweetness, a perfect combo. Ordered the Affogato. The coffee flavor is spectacular! Very bold and potent. The Gelato adds a nice balance without compromising the coffee flavor. Tucked away and hidden, it is a nice gem with a wonderful array of coffee, tea and food selections. 2 open tables outside and a few more inside offer a view of the harbor across the street. So glad I decided on stopping here today! It's nice to find a nice, local coffee shop. read more

This place was so good! It was my first experience at a local cafe shop in Hawaii and I hate to say this but I loved it. The customer service was great even though one of the workers kind of wrote down the wrong order and I had to wait more than I expected. Overall, the experience was great, totally recommend it for those wanting a bite or a drink. They are also an eco-friendly supply user--I STAN, and offer the option for no straw/cover and even a reusable straw! Also a great place to get some work done with a nice view of the dock. read more

Local Joe has everything downtown's coffee scene was missing; perfect coffee, great food and an owner who lives for coffee. Charles and Monica handle their respective ends of this business very well. Charles designed the layout, roasts his own coffee beans, and Monica makes the best pastries in downtown. They also have a latte printer which can print any image you want onto the top of your espresso drink. Coolest thing ever. Great place to run into old friends and make new ones. read more

I don't drink coffee, but I'd drink it from here. Instead, I drink tea, and their Plantation Iced Tea (sweet) is the bomb. They include a bit of lemongrass and some other herb and it just tastes so good. TIP: Ask for less simple syrup. Their croissant sandwiches are friggin awesome. Even though they are made fresh there, I suggest you ask them to warm it up. BTW, they offer fresh Kombucha on tap! read more

My friend and I had wanted to try a new cafe and this place exceeded both of our expectations! Despite getting a little lost on the way there, parking was very easy and abundant in the parking lot which is located right by the shop! Walked in, greeted by the worker who was very nice, and then took a look at the menu. Both my friend and I opted for the matcha with Mac nut milk. It was so good! Also I got a small, which I believe is about 16 ounces! Definitely get your moneys worth for sure! The inside has a very attractive aesthetic and is a quaint spot to relax and enjoy a good book! Highly recommend coming here and will definitely be coming often to try more on the menu! Amazing experience! read more

My go-to coffee shop for their Vietnamese iced cold brew and assortment of breakfast/lunch items. My personal favorites are the Vegan Avocado Taco and Mexican Quinoa Salad (my go-to healthy alternatives). Conveniently located in downtown area for the downtown crowd. But there is some space in front of the shop for those of you who need to grab-and-go (use your own discretion). Also, there is a Biki Stop conveniently to the left of the shop. Service is great. Charles (owner) and staff are super friendly and easy to talk story with. They recently upgraded their outdoor seating area and some of their interior decor. read more

First time here. We live in California and are use to great bagels with lox. This was by far, the best we have had. Warm, seeded, soft bagel, fresh lox, creamy cream cheese, thin sliced onions, tomato and capers. Holy smokes. Fantastic! Fresh pressed coffee to go with it. Perfect! Gonna miss this place! read more

For the flavored coffee lovers the Thai Latte is a must try. For me the sweetness to coffee ratio was pretty good. A slight more coffee taste would have been perfect but an easy 8/10. Good enough for me I went of consecutive days on my vacation. The coffee art was a cool 10/10 since I've never seen such detail from a coffee art machine. Great atmosphere and friendly staff found out a great experience. read more

Awesome are across the harbor. Great way to start your day in downtown. They roast their espresso right on premises and the finish product is as smooth as silk. Very tasty "Paleo Chocolate chip cookie and blueberry scones are the bomb. Highly recommended! read more

It used to feel expensive but justified because the quality was there. This last visit felt like the magic was gone. We came back during a long family trip with our two young kids, and the service was cold from the start. One employee seemed more interested in her phone and side conversations than the customers in front of her. The coffee was handed over messily, with liquid spilled on top like nobody cared enough to wipe it down. My wife also asked for a cup of ice when there were barely any people in line and instead of simply helping, the response was curt and dismissive, as if asking for something small was an inconvenience. The frustrating part is that this place built its reputation on details. Great coffee. Excellent pastries. Long lines that felt worth it because you were getting something special. Now it feels overpriced, indifferent and tired. Maybe the pastries are still good. Maybe the coffee is still technically good. But when the hospitality disappears, the whole experience changes. What used to feel like a destination now feels like another expensive Waikiki coffee counter coasting on reputation. I hate writing this because this place used to be a must visit for us. But after this trip, I'm done making the trek.

It was not overly busy but they did take awhile to get the orders ready. Prolly understandable given the server was the one accepting orders and also acting barista. She's just super sweet, making the wait bearable. We got their Kai latte, which was basically their signature latte served with house-made mac nut syrup. Great choice to try when you want to get something with Hawaiian touch, especially with the coffee being pretty good.

They also have food options, but we didn't try any of the food, so I can't comment on those options. They offer breakfast sandwich options and crepes on their menu. The cafe has seating with tables and chairs, but we just grabbed our drinks and walked along the street. It was super quiet when we visited, and there was no line and very empty overall. Not a bad place if you're in the area and need a quick caffeine fix, but I personally wouldn't go out of my way for it. Definitely a decent stop for convenience, but the flavor didn't wow me.

When you walk in you're greeted with bags of coffee and different types of teas and in the far back corner you will notice a coffee museum. I believe they do little tours here too. They cater to the tourist pretty well and are pretty friendly when they help them out, I have witnessed this first hand.

Charles, Monica and the team at Local Joe are extraordinary! 1. Product is QUALITY. Owner Charles Asselbaye is Hawaii's finest Roast Master, coffee beans are roasted in house and you can taste his passion for coffee in every cup. Same goes for all of Monicas pastries, she's an expert pastry chef and she loves what she does and it shows. The food is phenomenal! 2. SERVICE is on point. At this day and age "customer service" is truly a lost art and that's freaking sad. You can definitely feel the ALOHA at Local Joe, they take take of you and get to know you on a personal level. The better they know you the better they can serve you. 3. SPEED and Efficiency is locked down. They're fast. Nobody likes waiting, especially when you're in a rush getting to work or in between meetings. 4. AMBIENCE is on fleek and functional. The floor-to-ceiling world map on the wall adds a nice touch and adds perspective to your experience. AC is cold so it's cool and comfortable with plenty of room to chill or get work done. I'm not trying to drink hot coffee in a warm coffee shop in Hawaii and I'm not an iced coffee fan. Wifi is strong and free, that's a MUST these days. 5. LOCAL STYLE is the way to go. Forget corporate chain coffee shops, give up to the people who buck the system and put their lives on the line to PURSUE THIER PASSION! It's not easy to run a small biz, especially in Hawaii where the damn cost of living is so high. There's something to be said for the guys and gals who become entrepreneurs because they refuse to do it any other way but the RIGHT way, which is THEIR WAY. Go visit LOCAL JOE today!!! 6. Local Joe is a solid spot for coffee, especially if you're near the harbor or just off a cruise ship. The coffee was great, and the staff was friendly and efficient. It's a nice place to stop by if you're looking for a quality drink in the area. That said, space inside is a bit limited, and seating can be tight during busier hours. Parking is also a challenge--street parking is your best bet unless you're willing to pay for a nearby lot. Fortunately, there's outdoor seating available, which helps, especially with the nice breeze and view near the cruise ship docks. Overall, a great local café with good coffee and a convenient location--just be prepared for a bit of a squeeze during peak times. read more

Local Joe's Coffee is hands down the best coffee experience I've had on the island. The customer service was exceptional -- truly the warmest and most attentive I've encountered anywhere here. The food was absolutely amazing, fresh, and full of flavor. And the coffee? Simply unbeatable. It's authentic, rich, and roasted right on site, giving every cup an incredible depth you can taste. I fly over from Maui to O'ahu and have been looking for a good spot to stop and grab a vegan-friendly breakfast in Chinatown. Local Joe HI was just a couple minute walk from the bus stop & I had time to give their breakfast burrito a try. I ordered the vegan burrito, it took maybe 8-10 minutes and was filled to the brim. I think it's pretty overrated. Their coffee is really good, but the breakfast menu is way too expensive and kind of a letdown. All their coffee drinks are super sweet, so you'll probably want to tone that down a bit. Plus, the breakfast options are way too greasy to finish and get old fast. Honestly, I'd say just stick with the coffee. It seems like all the good reviews are just about that. read more
