Terrific for beer. Worst Bloody Mary ever, and they used to make a really good one. Food so so. But service very friendly

We stopped in for lunch on a Saturday afternoon. Learned that the men's room did not have hand soap or paper towels which makes u wonder how do the staff clean their hands properly. I began my meal w a spicy Bloody Mary, was not spicy at all, the only plus were the 3 olives stuffed w blue cheese as a garnish. My meal choice was the Chicken BLA (bacon, lettuce and avocado mash) on a toasted ciabatta roll, a garden salad on the side- was very good and a nice portion. My friend was not too thrilled abt the tomato bisque, it lacked flavor and body. He also had the fish tacos which he also said was under seasoned. Went there on on our way home from a concert in Norwalk. My fiancée who is 26 was denied service because they believed her ID to be invalid. This is understandable. Arizonas IDs expire very late (~50 year). Look it up. However after asking why they were denying service they said they felt it was fake. After we asked if they used a scanner the manager said she had (although the server before her said it was broken). I understand it's the discretion of the server to deny service however it seems the manager lied about using a scanner to avoid any confrontation. If they had actually used a valid scanner it would've been instantly proven that my fiancé was in fact 26 and the whole ordeal could've been avoided. I've been cooking ever since the age of 2 (so right around 16 years experience.) Coming here was a mistake. Service: 10/10 My waitress was amazing, very kind, charismatic, a staff member that deserves to be working a 5 star luxury restaurant. Food: 3/10 The "Dirty" wings are literally that. Dirty and disgusting. They came to our table completely burnt, so much so that because of the yellow overly sweet honey barbecue sauce the wing it's self looked green. When who I assumed was the manager approached us he told me they were "caramelized". He then explained to me that it meant they were double fried. I laughed my ass off and gave him what I could only describe as the face face from the "whatttt?" Meme. Burger: undercooked then overcooked twice. What happened? We've always frequented Local Kitchen, even during covid, but quality of service seems to have diminished as of late. We went last week and while it was busy, all the wait staff were socializing behind the bar. It was super annoying especially since we had been waiting 15 minutes for our drinks and when we finally got our waiters attention, he realized he forgot to put our order in. There were two bartenders, one male and female. The female seemed to do all the work, while the male socialized with the wait staff. The food took forever to come out and our waiter never updated us until we inquired and he said they are short staffed. Whatever happened recently, please fix it!! read more

Beer selection was great! Menu was really interesting. We ordered the mussel ap- they were really fishy. I actually spit one out. We sent it back- spoke to the manager they offered to make us another- we refused- didn't want to get sick- they did not take it off the bill- our sandwiches were ok- a bit over cooked. Worst overall experience I have had in as long as I can remember. After being told the wait would be 25-40 minutes we were called after an hour and a half. Asked to speak with the manager, his response was "do you want a table or not?" Poor service, worse food. They simply don't care. Stay away. read more

Never saw a manager. -salads tasteless... our party tried 4 different ones. Underdressed. -asked for additional dressing. Never got it. -Request for extra cheese arrived when salad gone. -Zero personality of the waiter. Barely an apology about the initial wait. Are employees not empowered to bring a complimentary app/drink/ dessert when less than optimal service was provided? ...ESPECIALLY a new business where you would think they would want to put their best foot forward! BOTTOM LINE: The location, space and reported good vibes attracted us to this new restaurant. I saw children there, but it's so much a BAR environ, I'd never bring kids here. The 2 giggly hostesses were not helpful in any way except leading us to a seat. Sadly, the food and service failed miserably, without ANY attempt to rehabilitate our experience or ensure a repeat visit. I would have been willing to cut some slack here if they had sent an app over or apologize earnestly... chalking it up to getting their feet wet, but with no Manager around overseeing things , you get a feeling of carelessness. 2 words - AWFUL SERVICE I have never experienced such awful service in my entire dining experiences. The waiter we had disappeared for very long periods of time, forgot our drinks, order us wrong food and seemed to not give a shit the whole time. The best part was he added lots of extras to our bill that we didn't even order. The food was good and beer selection is amazing. Unfortunately, the service will have me never coming back here. Normally, I give a place another shot but this was beyond my limit of acceptable behavior. If not for the beer list, i would stop giving the kitchen or staff the chance. Great atmosphere, good beer, mediocre food. The design of the menu is good but the execution is not stung. The cole slaw, in particular, had far too much mayonnaise. It was used in a couple of dishes we ordered (Pulled Pork sliders and fish tacos). It overpowered the food. Salmon and Chicken dishes were over cooked. Paring of side dishes seemed very disjointed. On a side note, I came with kids. They would not let us sit down stairs where their are booths that can see the TVs. Had to sit upstairs. Not sure why. I'm really happy that local has remained open during covid. I've been here a handful of times which I've almost always been fully satisfied. On New Years Eve I called to make a reservation of 10 and they said of course! We got to the restaurant and our group was separated. We were not made aware that we would be separated when we made the reservation on the phone. We asked the manager if there was anything he could do for us and he said NO. They said because they had "four other big party reservations for the evening." I'm not sure why that would matter or why they would accept our reservation in the first place. Since being separated we politely asked if we could at least be seated near each other. Out of the 10 of us, 6 of us were roommates and the other 2 were siblings staying with the 6 of us. So yes 8/10 of the group was LIVING together. The whole time our waitress has an attitude, was rude, and judged all 10. Her name was Gab. I would not have wanted to work New Years Eve so props to her. However, as an employee who works in customer service, Gab lacked professionalism and basic manners. The drinks took what felt like 12 years to get to the table (even when we ordered a simple beer in a glass). She also billed all 10 of us on one bill which I understand but we weren't even sitting together. So we should of at least been billed by table. I have chosen to never dine at this restaurant again because of the dissatisfaction they caused, ruining our New Year Holiday Celebration. read more

Was there recently and the Host was very rude. It was very crowded and told me wife and 3 year old kid we had to stand outside while we waited for a table. It was really cold so we just left. The thing is, is he was just such an Asshole about it. Non apologetic. He obviously isn't the owner. A few weeks later my wife and I decided to give it a try at a non busy time. I ordered a Mexicali Bowl and as I was eating this bland dish, I noticed a shard of broken piece of metal in it. Very good food and an excellent craft beer selection in a section of Fairfield that needs some diversity of establishments... Being from Denver, we've got "craft beer bars" up to our chins, so I'm a bit of a snob about these places. That said, I think Local Kitchen & Craft Beer Bar is one of the best I'm been to in awhile -- especially for CT. I had the 2 Roads Holiday Seasonal beer and it was very tasty --- as was the Turkey sandwich and the Veggie burger. I enjoyed the vibe of the place as well, as it's casual and very welcoming, with a bit of hipster mixed in. TV's galore to watch sports, too. Again, I believe LK&CBB adds some needed diversity to the Fairfield County dining and craft beer scene, thus it's 4 Stars in my book. Go. Explore. Leave your comfort zone. Meh. It was ok. Beer selection was great. I love the tapas style menu. It allows you to try many different things. The descriptions on the menu made selecting what to order difficult. The atmosphere was nice. Very relaxed and clean. My main gripe was that if something was a fried dish, it was oil soaked. The fried pickles actually had a pool of oil in the bottom of the dish. The chips that came with the dip were way too greasy. And the chicken sandwich was so greasy and had way too much coating. I understand that all of these things were fried items, but fried food done well doesn't taste fried or have pooled oil. :( I think this place has potential it just needs some tweaking in the kitchen. read more

I'm not sure how this place got any bad reviews. Like I am literally shocked. I went for lunch with a number of coworkers, and found that the service was incredible and the burgers were killer, like seriously killer. I went again last night, for dinner, and again was blown away by the burgers. Got the Thai Popcorn chicken to start, and while they were far from "popcorn", they were so incredibly good. The Local burger was awesome (highly recommend) and our server was attentive and overall really really sweet. With an AWESOME style to the building, incredible beers on Tap, and burgers that are freaking awesome I had to give this place 5 stars. read more

My friend and I just swong through here while I was driving North (it is RIGHT off of route 95, making it super easy to find) and had a great lunch. Nothing's marked for food allergens on the menu, but the waiter was really great about checking. Although I did also, casually, mention that I'm generally dairy free, and take a look at my disco fries. I only ate half but they were AMAZING. Like mac and cheese (which I would NEVER order, unless it was gluten free with vegan cheese...sad, I know, what can you do?) with fries instead of macaroni. I also got the pulled pork sliders, except they don't have a gluten free slider roll. So I asked for both to be combined onto a regular gluten free roll, and they did it. Yummy. And I also had a "healthy" side. The roasted brussel sprouts with bacon. They should really say it's bacon with brussel sprouts. Sitting in a vat of bacon grease. Again, I couldn't finish it. Not in a sea of oil. But that's not to say I wouldn't order it again! It was delicious! But not healthy. My friend has been before and had a great veggie burger and salad. It's a fun place, nice staff, easy find, good food. I'm looking forward to going back. read more

I'm surprised by the low rating here on yelp. The food was amazing, and reasonably priced for the size options. I like the fact that they have small plates. My partner and I ordered the asada taco, pulled pork sliders, the kale and squash salad, Brussel sprouts and disco fries, all small plates. It was actually too much food, and we could have done without one plate, but it was all very good. They have a vast array of beer on tap, but we were disappointed to see only one stout. The servers were very nice. We ended up staying for 4 hours and were never pressured to leave, though we were there on a Sunday evening. Had it been a Friday or Saturday I don't know if it would have been the same. We ordered 4 beers and 5 small plates - the check was $60. read more

I've been here a couple times so far, but only for drinks. It's a big place, with a large square bar in the middle. It has an industrial/ warehouse kind of feel to it. The drink selection is nice, and also lots of beers to choose from. First time I went it was a Friday late afternoon around happy hour and it was jammed packed and extremely LOUD! Service was kind of lacking even sitting at the bar. The staff seemed a bit overwhelmed to say the least. The second time I went it was a on regular weekday afternoon and it was empty so the bartender was surprisingly attentive..lol Again can't speak for the food, but the menu selection was pretty basic. Bar food, burgers etc. If I go back I'll have to try out the food, but I'm in no rush. read more

Dishes we tried were inventive and fresh, better than a typical bar or brewery but in line with what you expect given the name of the place. What was disappointing however was the beer and wine selections and prices. $6-8 for a can of beer seems ludicrous. Bottle prices were the same which is fine in NYC but steep for Fairfield. So we tried a couple of glasses of wine as they offer four on tap... Love this. However the pour seemed very light (equivalent to 1/5-1/6 of a bottle rather than 1/4). The atmosphere was light and energetic, a lot of late 20s to 40s. Would be a casual fun place for happy hour I am guessing. Might give it a go again. read more

The good: Nice bar, good looking place and easy to park. The Ok: our waitress was nice and caring, the burgers are good and the beer choice is great. The bad: service way too long, barely acceptable and disorganized. Burgers delivered first and salad next. Education calls to wait for all plates to be served before starting eating. With burgers that were barely hot when served, we ended up eating them cold. Overall, pricey for what you get, and the feeling that late food delivery is just a trick to get you to order more drinks. I was really disappointed by the long wait time. My boyfriend and I arrived at 7:20 on a Thursday evening, and were seated right away in the outside seating area. Our drink order however, wasn't taken until half an hour after being seated and we didn't receive our drinks till an hour in. What was even more frustrating was that a table of 4 next to us that was seated well after us received their drinks and appetizers before our server came to take our drink order. This was because he thought his manager had already helped us. Our appetizer was finally served close to an hour a half into being seated. When we finally received our long awaited food, we were absolutely disappointed. The chicken in my sandwich was burnt and inedible. My boyfriend's pho was completely disappointing, with pure pork fat and no real meat pieces and the noodles were not the usual fresh thin rice noodles, but what seemed to be mostly a large bowl of linguine. The veggies were cooked in the pho rather than kept separate and fresh, and there were almost no real sprouts. Our server Jeeves was very nice and friendly but overworked. No one came around to fill our water or ask us if we needed anything. I ran out of ketchup, and unfortunately there was no one around to ask for some more and I gave up. While this may be due to being understaffed or busy inside the restaurant it was nonetheless disappointing. Overall, the beer was good but the food and service were unacceptable. Note, I was about to submit this as a 1 star review, but after receiving the check, Jeeves noticed that our food was practically untouched and asked us what was wrong. He brought the manager out who apologized and gave us a $5 coupon on our next visit and took off the chicken order for being burnt. Decided to try this place out with a friend after hearing mixed reviews. Disappointed that there were no happy hour specials (we got there about 5:45), but dinner made up for it! We opted to split a few of the small plate options: fish taco, asada beef taco, pork sliders, the famed brussel sprouts, and the thai peanut chicken. The bartender tried to tell us we ordered a lot of food, but we wouldn't hear it, only come to find out that we had to leave a few bites behind by the end of the meal. The pulled pork was delicious, could have used a bit more bbq sauce in my opinion, but I tend to go heavy on condiments. The brussel sprouts were very tasty. The blending of flavors was great, but masked the natural taste of the brussel sprouts. The maple syrup was in excess and the sprouts at the bottom of the plate were difficult to eat because they were too sweet. By far the best part of the meal was the fish taco. I wish I had ordered to the "lots" portion instead. One was not enough (I do have to say that it was a large taco, not small like BarTaco or Bodega, so the not being enough was because of the taste, not size). I was not a fan of the thai chicken, but that was personal taste opposed to poor quality. The bartenders were personable and observant. We never had to ask for refills on drinks and were not bombarded with "how is everything" every five minutes. Everything was reasonably priced and the space was comfortable and inviting. I am giving more than one star solely for the burger. Everything else was mediocre. The flatbread was tasteless and bland. The salad was wilted and doused (and I mean drowned) in dressing. The service was so bad we finally had to start laughing as we piled our plates on top of each other and timed how long it would take our waitress to come back from her smoke breaks (we could see her from our seat). She never came back to check on us as we ran or of beer and ketchup. Also, my moms beer was just gross and she finally had to go in to have it changed after waiting 25 min for our waitress to come back to take our order after bringing drinks. Did I mention that it was not crowded at ALL? Literally only 2 other parties in the place. It was honestly, well, awful. I will never come back. So bad. Go to a diner. read more

Nice staff people - but the place can get mobbed. Food is good - stick to burgers. Fries were cool (temperature) so the fryer needs to get jacked up. Winter-time - BRING A JACKET YOU CAN WEAR WHILE EATING. Nice space. Great space for meeting a group. Deceptively small though. My best friend and I were cruising around downtown Fairfield last night trying to find a place that wasn't full of underage kids or cougars (pretty much encompasses the scenes in the area), so we ended up here. We've been once before, and this time it was also really crowded. It's a mix of parents (they clear out around 10), singles, and groups of early to late 20-somethings. You can sit at a booth, sit at the large bar in the center, or hang out at one of the communal tables -- good for mingling. The menu is pretty large and a good mix of indulgent and rabbit-food-eater-friendly (guilty as charged) options. We've had the kale salad, the fish tacos, and a couple other items that were probably erased from memory after a couple more drinks. They have a full cocktail menu with a martini section, and about a dozen by-the-glass wine options, with a few on tap. Beer isn't my thing, but their offerings are seriously expansive and craft-focused. The only constant issue is the bartenders are a little oblivious and on the slow side, though really friendly and competent. read more

Finally had the chance to visit Local in Fairfield. Nice stop after getting off the train! My husband and I really had a great experience here. Really nice atmosphere and vibe. We enjoyed sharing the lobster waffle and also the teriyaki popcorn chicken. It's really great you can order a small or large portion of most offerings. My husband had the pork pho bowl and I had the hippie bowl.... the pho was delish and my hippie bowl which had quinoa, kale, tofu and avacado was good but could have had more quinoa and been a little more seasoned for my taste. But still very fresh and creative. Good selection of brews and wine. I recommend a visit here if you're in Fairfield. read more

Awesome atmosphere and great beer! Beer menu is odd and laid out horizontally. Just not a normal way to read and it can be quite difficult once you've had a few drinks. Ordered a beer took them 15min to get it out. Bartender and server just talking and hanging out. So kinda weird... Burgers are good. But not diverse, it's almost all bacon, mayo, or funions. I got the black and blue and it was just overpowered by blue cheese. Pickle fries amazing! Good but not great! read more
