For his customer outreach, I would say this establishment is a 10 star. We have responded to his outreach with our willingness to try his place again should he be at his restaurant. The owner is clearly dedicated to providing a best in class experience, and we appreciate that the people who work there may not respect this, and this unfortunately penalizes the business owner unfairly. Had we not gotten food poisoning and had awkward exchanges with our server we would have rated this place 4 stars. Father's day brunch reservation: awkward waitress, ordered breakfast tacos, breakfast quesadilla, carrot cake, horribly bitter coffee: we ALL got food poisoning. WE ARE JUST MISERABLE. It is very cheap quality unhealthy food that is in ridiculously extremely grotesquely large portions. I think the people who go here think value equates to quantity, but this is very poor quality food in a wanna be hip environment (awkward wait staff and dirty seating areas). It started out slow but, the ending was perfect! My wife's burger was over cooked and by the time she the do over (20 minutes) we were almost done with our meals so I was irritated and not planning a second visit but, once my wife got her burger it was worth the wait! In the end we all were satisfied with our meals. And the skillet chocolate chip cookie with ice cream......man that sh#% was DAMN GOOD!! I would go back just for that. I went from 2 stars to 5. Do not be deceived by the pictures. They look a lot smaller (portions) than they actually are. I fell for that with the Mac n cheese. Service was so nice and she let us know what dishes are good for sharing and that they are bigger portions. For the 3 of us we tried to get a variety and got the shrimp tacos, mac n cheese and tater tot (nachos?). What I loved about the tacos and tots was the sauce...they make almost all the sauces in house and they add so much flavor! Especially the sriracha mayo. We were in town for one day, and my wife found this place on Yelp. This place has a comfortable ambience, plenty of different seating options (inside and outside), great service, and delicious food. We picked a table with cozy club chairs. The waiter was attentive, but not too distracting. He made good recommendations. My wife enjoyed her fish plate, while I had a yummy steak. Nice spot if you're looking for some comfort food and bar-type food. They have a bar with a wide selection of beers and wines. They're known for their meat loaf tower and chicken & waffles, which I didn't get this time, but will definitely be back to give them a try. Old Torrance Chicken Club - Sizable portion with a tender piece of grilled chicken, bacon, avocado, cheddar cheese, and a nice garlic aioli. I would recommend this fine restaurant in a limited fashion: I think the main course I ordered (Tuscan sea bass) was good. However, if I ever returned I would not order the desserts nor other dishes, as they all seemed overpriced for the offering... Also, they include the tax when calculating the suggested tip, which is not the standard practice in LA. The restaurant provides the food and drinks; the government institutes the tax. If you think along these lines then it makes more sense to tip on the pre-tax subtotal rather than the after-tax total. read more

From the outside, it doesn't look like much but oce you walk in, the place looks amazing. The ambience of the place was so relaxed and easygoing. The server was super helpful and friendly when my siblings and I couldn't decide on what to get. The food portions don't look much and it's a bit expensive, but everything is extremely filling and tastes delicious! We had the mac and cheese with bacon, sheimp tacos, and "tot" nachos. My favorite was by far the shrimp tacos. The fried, breaded shrimp was so crispy and the sauces with the pico and everything was perfect together. Ate here last Friday night and it was amazing from the service to the food to the cleanliness of the restrooms. The fish tacos were very good and the beans that came with it were a surprise hit for myself and my husband. This place has really gone down hill! This was one of our favorites in the Torrance area and now it's hard to believe it's the same place. I understand the younger generation has no manners and dress like bums with hats on so there's not much you can do about that. But the service has gone down as well. Our server didn't listen to us at all. She brought the wrong size beer and I told her to just leave it and adjust the bill to reflect so she brought me another beer to make up the difference. Then our appetizer didn't arrive before the meal so I asked that it be removed from the bill, it wasn't. The steak was full of gristle and didn't taste like prime as stated on the menu. My wife's wine was so cold the glass was frosty. The fish was good and the potatoes were ok. This is not the local kitchen I remember. My friend and I got lost because of apple or google maps. We were here for drinks which turned into dinner because it's too nice not to eat here. Local Kitchen looks like a rich old man's library/bar but they actually serve gourmet comfort food that's really good and filling. Started with a strong drink because all of this talk about corona virus was stressing me out. I tried the best greyhound ever because it had best in the name and liked it but didn't love it. My go to is the sazerac and that I loved because it's strong and had the orange bitters after taste I love. Tried the chicken and waffles and it was up there with best chicken and waffles. The waffles taste like butter with a hint of rosemary and the syrup was something else; I could drink a shot of that. Ask for more syrup if you can. Personally I'm at a strong 4 stars, but my family is urging me to give 5 stars - so 5 it is!! We decided to venture out and let Yelp be our guide, Local Kitchen is what Yelp Nation decided for us. It's in Old Torrance which is a cool area for those that have never been. It gets busy, but there is plenty of street parking and even a subterranean parking lot across the street from the restaurant - look around, and be patient. We found ourselves with a 15 minute wait at 6pm on a Saturday night. They have a big waiting area, with a jumbo couch, and the restaurant is filled with televisions, so there are plenty of distractions. I was excited to see a Local Kitchen web signal, but apparently it's not for patrons (?) - get with the times people!! Our group was put into a booth, which was huge, our party of 6 had plenty of room. Our server was Chris who was on point and had a good handle on the menu. We had two appetizers, the Bad Axe Brussel Sprouts (A) and the Chloe's Spinach Dip (A), they got devoured and everyone raved about how good they were. My entrée was the fish tacos, which came with 3 stuffed tacos, the portion was huge, the actual taco was good, but not amazing, the fish was overwhelmed by all the fresh goodies. The tacos came with a side of beans and salsa which added to the zest and size. They saved the 'amazing' for the Dave's BBQ meatloaf (A+). If I had it to do over, I'd go meatloaf, my wife gave me a bite, and it was awesome. The atmosphere was dark, but the vibe was fun, the restaurant was filled with laugher and Saturday night happiness. Did I mention drinks? They have a few house scratch drinks, someone at our table had the Red's Kentucky Buck, which was a tasty combo of strawberry and bourbon. I enjoyed a nice cold 22oz. Smog City IPA, which is from a local Torrance brewery, and was perfectly hoppy. I walked by this place just after they opened and I figured this was a lively bar with average pub grub. Decided to give it a try during Happy Hour. The place was pretty dead when I arrived and my friend arrived ahead of me. His Satori Crystal Margarita looked tasty, but I selected the Paloma-esque. Both drinks hit the mark and that set the tone for the evening. Unlike most servers during Happy Hour, Monica was extremely attentive to our needs. The sliders were simply made with and the beef was flavorful. What knocked it out of the park was the skillet lasagne. Served on a cast iron skillet, it consisted of sweet Italian sausage, ricotta, mozzarella and romano cheeses. I asked Monica for another drink recommendation and she suggested the Chico and the Manhattan. That was one smooth Manhattan and I recommend that for anyone looking for a tasty variation. We also selected 10 Shrimp Walk into a Bar in Baltimore or drunken shrimp with a garlic butter sauce. The dish was tasty and I liked the fact that it was topped with fresh arugula to give it some contrast. The sauce was addictive and we mopped it up with the garlic bread. Monica was extremely helpful during our entire stay. She did not rush us and made us feel like we were high rollers. We'll definitely return! read more

Local Kitchen is a GREAT place in Old Torrance for lunch or dinner, seven days per week. The casual eatery is a total hipster joint with wood floors (that are scary slippery), cool edison lights and lots of booths. Even though there are decorative bookshelves with book appearing items and other things to make it feel like an old pub or old English, there are televisions broadcasting sports everywhere that you look. Parking is relatively plentiful on the street or in the city's lot. The only bummer is NO reservations - first come, first serve. Fortunately, it is a HUGE restaurant and there was no wait for lunch. They also have a lot of tables that accommodate large parties. The kitchen is delivering delicious food but the service is very disorganized. I didn't let that rain on my parade, because I loved what I ordered and could not believe how reasonably priced it was. The Little Ones had the corny dogs with milk ($5.95), which is two pretty good sized corn dogs (they don't taste hand dipped anymore but the kids liked them) with crunchy shoestring sweet potato fries. This was an absolute TON of food for them. I had the Bad Axe Brussels Sprouts, which was HUGE plate (about a pound) of delicious maple glazed, charred sprouts with chunks of bacon. $10.50 for a plate of magic. I also ordered the roasted garlic carrots ($2.50) because I was expecting the typical tiny portion of sprouts. The carrots were tasty and seasoned well but could really have used some color on them as they were pretty one dimensional. I like roasted to be a little charred. DH had the patty melt - can't recommend that as the meat was not the best quality and the bread was a bummer. The housemade kettle chips had a weird faux BBQ flavor. But, again, I knew better than to order this. I had the New York Cocktail which was a surprisingly light and refreshing blend of Rye, Pimms No. 1, fresh lime juice and a touch of sugar. A great daytime cocktail - not too spirit forward and not too sweet. Just right. The onion rings for the table ($6.25) are another great choice. A crunchy tower of about 10 onion rings with chipotle ranch. Eat 'em while they are hot. No one likes a cold fried onion ring. Poppa loved his BLTA (grilled Parmesan on the bread is genius) and Nonna loved the Yardbird salad (not for me, but she devoured it). Overall, lunch for 6 with a tip was about $110. A crazy good deal in our book, and the food was generally fantastic. I would steer clear of the burgers and dogs in favor of the stuff that has more of a house touch. I will be back! read more

I ordered for pick up, but noticed that they have a whole bunch of outdoor seating for anyone interesting in eating in. I ordered a Chipotle BBQ Chophouse Burger. All their sandwiches/burgers come with either french fries, tater tots, or kettle chips. It's pretty rare to see tots offered as a side so I went with that. This meal cost me $16.37. They give a ton of tots and the found was still warm when I got home to eat it. The customer service was exemplary too even though I was there for a brief time. I would say that the worst part of the burger was the lettuce was pretty soggy and not very good. read more
