The branzino was well-prepared, and the gnocchi was soft and pillowy with a solid sauce. There is no complimentary bread. They did charge us $4 for the bread. The ambiance is lovely, though it can get pretty noisy due to the close seating. The food came out quickly (not a bad thing), but it felt like they were trying to rush us out to make room for the next customers. You could probably find a similar quality Italian meal elsewhere for less. Overall, it was good but on the pricey side. I couldn't give it 5 stars because they added a health insurance surcharge to the bill, which was included in the subtotal, so it ended up being taxed. It felt odd to see it set up this way. The picture showed slices of bread but it turned out to be 2 thin pieces of breadsticks that were served. You don't want bread anyway; it'll fill you up too fast. We shared the Pizza Norcina and Strozzapreti Locanda - can't go wrong with mushroom and sausage! Both were divine and enough to share between 2 people. The only letdown was their desserts. The Affogato was a total fail. The whipped cream should have been excluded and there wasn't enough gelato. I couldn't even tell if it was gelato or milk ice cream. We asked her what the difference between x and y was and she was so short that made me feel like I was bothering her. We asked her what she preferred and she said x when asked why she said "because that's what I like." Huh? Normally people say because it's more flavorful, describe the sauce, describe the ingredients but no she just said that's what she likes. When asked about 2 pizza opinions I was expecting to get a description of why in her opinion one was better than the other...well I was wrong. This place felt overrated. The ambiance is beautiful, but the food just didn't live up to the hype. We started with the focaccia bread and pesto sauce. The bread itself was soft and fluffy, but the pesto was overwhelmingly salty. The Caesar salad was one of the better dishes, not a traditional Caesar, more like a cross between Caesar and thousand island, but still tasty. The calamari, on the other hand, fell flat. The batter had little flavor beyond the oil, and the dipping sauce was also very salty, with blended black olives that you'd probably want to skip if you're not a fan of olives. For mains, I ordered the lobster ravioli in a pink sauce. Unfortunately, the ravioli was bland and lacked that sweet lobster flavor I was hoping for, while the sauce tasted more like tomato soup. My husband had the braised beef pasta, which was decent but not memorable, the beef was a bit dry. We were also surprised that the Parmesan offered was pre-grated in a small cup instead of freshly grated at the table. Not a dealbreaker, but a little disappointing. Drinks were the highlight. my cocktail was excellent, and the light Italian beer my husband chose was refreshing. It took them a while to take our order and get our order to us. We ordered calamari, pizza lisa, gnocchi al tartufo, and ravioli di aragosta. The calamari tasted like frozen ones and I wasn't a fan. Everyone was so friendly and when I asked for jalapeños and they didn't have any they brought an alternative for me that added the spice I was looking for in my pizza. I've always wanted to try an aperol spritz and always heard mixed reviews from friends about the taste but I was very impressed and happy with my drink choice. For dessert we ordered the limoncello cake, based on our server Enzo's recommendation and it did not disappoint! He also gave us a lemoncello shot! We really enjoyed our visit to the Locanda. We happened by this restaurant while walking around Pleasanton and noticed how very pretty it was, then looked at the menu, and asked some questions and vowed to come back. We came for a birthday dinner to celebrate my husband with our best friends. Allen our waiter was lovely and provided us very nice service. To begin with we ordered a round of drinks. The signature drinks are beautifully presented. We shared a round of appetizers: the arancini, a margarita pizza, the fried zucchini blossoms and the grilled octopus appetizer. The arancini & fried zucchini blossoms were perfect as there were 4 each so one for each of us and we divided the octopus and pizza among us. I was surprised the pizza was precut and in more than 4 pieces as when we stopped by and talked to one of the chef's, he seemed the head chef, and perhaps the proprietor told us that he and 4 other cooks are straight from Naples, (so I had very high hopes for the pizza!) which is atypical of classic Neopolitan style pizza. I have to say I was more impressed with almost every other thing we ate other than the pizza. The pizza was not bad, I have to go back and order only the pizza because I feel like it may have suffered due to ordering it with too many other things. It was not HOT HOT when it came to us and I was looking forward to cutting into it, none of which we got to do. I will say, try EVERYTHING with a truffle sauce if you are a truffle lover. Both the arancini and the gnocchi with the truffle sauce were among my two favorite dishes, and I am not even a huge gnocchi fan but I would 100% go back just for that dish it was so good. These were the stars of the show in my eyes. All in all there were a lot more items on the menu we would like to try, and we look forward to another visit. I will say we ordered on Open Table and mentioned it was a special occasion and that we were celebrating a my husband's birthday and they did not acknowledge this in any way so I was a bit disappointed that they did not take the opportunity to make my husband feel special during the visit, which would have been nice since we don't go for a lot of fanfare at our age but a complimentary drink for him or a small dessert (for him, not the whole table!) would have been a nice gesture. read more

This place was so good last week that we couldn't wait to come back. So here we are a week later and every dish was amazing! We tried some favorites from last week and order some new dishes to try. We loved them all. 1. Arancini: A favorite from the last visit. This is a must try! The sauce is just addicting too. 2. Gnocchi Al Tartufo: Another favorite from last visit. I think we will always order this first two listed dishes. Highly recommended. 3. Mama Carmella's Meatballs: While extremely flavorful, we expected meatballs on the softer side where you could actually see the ground meat. These were very hard and dense, but I know some meatballs are made that way. While we wouldn't get this again, it was still so tasty and they were HUGE! Very generous portions here for sure! 4. Ravioli Cacio e Pepe: This dish was acceptable. The sauce lovely, but I wish the pasta was a bit softer. Either way though, a very delicious dish. 5. Eggplant Parmesan: Had to be "healthy" and order a vegetable dish, haha! Yea right! All jokes aside, we love eggplant and love Parmesan so why not together? This was such a delicious, vibrant, and impressive dish! I was already so full so I wish I could have finished because I loved it so much. They are not skimpy with the Parmesan either! 6. Limoncello cake: Lemon, lemon, and more lemon! If you love lemon, this is for you! Even if you aren't in love with lemon, it's a great dessert to have. Not too sweet and not overly sour! It has a good balance and it's so refreshing after a heavy meal! Doesn't feel heavy at all. 7. Panna Cotta with mango: Panna cotta was great, but still wish they'd put the mango purée on the plate with a bit more finesse. All the other items are plated so nicely. I wonder why the blobs of mango purée isn't done that way either, haha. However, if you're expecting an intense mango flavor, then don't. I eat A LOT of mango and the purée didn't taste like mango to me. It wasn't bad, but it wasn't a huge amount of intense mango flavor. Service: Excellent as usual! Me and my older brother's family came here for dinner after an event my nephew had to attend. We got there pretty early on a Friday. I want to say around 6 PM and they were plenty of tables available and we didn't need a reservation. We ordered a few drinks and we order the special appetizer that was available at the moment which was the fried squash blossoms. I thought they were tasty but I think they could use a little bit less better. Especially with a dish like that I would love to taste more of the squash blossom itself. For my entrée, I actually ordered another special which was the squid ink pasta. I thought that was super tasty. The pasta is cooked well and the sauce tasted light. The seafood that came with it was also pretty awesome. The dish was very good. Our waiter and the service was amazing here. I don't think I could ask for better. Super attentive and very fun and nice. they also have a pretty great selection at the bar which I wasn't drinking since it was so early and I just didn't feel like getting any whiskey or cocktails. I would definitely go back especially with my family. It's a fun dining atmosphere and I've been there twice with both of my brothers families at different times. First off, great vibe her. Felt like a true cafe in Milan or something, with the downtown Main street hustle and bustle at your back. Even the waiter had an Italian accent. Although I've heard of places that teach fake accents to make it more authentic. Ordered up some calamari, the eggplant parm, and a margherita pizza. The calamari was fine, nothing spectacular. But the pasta and pizza, while looking delicious, was insanely too salty for us on this night. It was too much, and we ended up just not eating much of it. I hate complaining about food to the servers, so we just let it go. I'm gonna chalk it up to a bad night by the kitchen staff, so we'll try and come back and give it another shot sometime. As we came early, service was attentive at first, but became slower as the restaurant began to get more patrons. I think not well enough staffed for larger crowds. We ordered two different selections, both of which were good. However the finger potatoes that accompanied my truffle sauce chicken were too al dente, not well enough cooked. Entrées: They serve solid pizzas (Margherita and Lisa are good options if you're vegetarian) but I prefer their pasta dishes - my faves are the Pappardelle Bolognese ($24.95) and Ravioli Amalfi ($22.95). Desserts: They serve a decent Cannoli (Cannoli Siciliana, $10) but I prefer their Gelatos ($7) - get the pistachio gelato if they have it. Love love love Locanda Amalfi! I've had legit Italian dishes when I visited the Cinque Terre in Italy and the pasta dishes here brings me back. The dishes here are really good. Hats off to their chefs because the pasta dish I had, squid ink pasta and clams, was perfection. The pasta was al dente (which is my benchmark for a good Italian restaurant), the dish was simple but yet so delightful. My daughter had the oven baked pizza and my husband got the chicken dish. Our appetizer was the fritto misto (fried seafood) and it was reminiscent of those seafood vendor stands we encountered in Italy. They also give bread as appetizers.
