Used to think Lock City was the best around a few years back. We would order ahead and truck the kids on down and grab a booth. Then awhile ago something happened and the whole pie changed. We gave it another chance, still no good and I'm talking barely edible. It's been at least a year and we were going to be in Lockport so we gave it another chance tonight. I've heard the locals now call it Lock Sh&!@ty Pizza and sorry to say I must agree. The thing that made Lock City stand out was the spices on the bottom of the crust. Now it's just bare dough like all the others. And doughy it is. Sorry but three strikes and you're done, there's plenty of middling pizza joints around. Worst pizza EVER. Read all about it from "Sexy slice" who wrote an article in the Buffalo News a few weeks ago. Well apparently he went on and on saying he has tried the majority of pizza all over WNY on a quest to find the best WNY pizza (or top few). He went so far as to create a spreadsheet to rank each pizzeria based on a few key categories. Well let me tell you the anticipation was high as we ANXIOUSLY awaited a chance to order. Lock City is cash only (ok not a big deal as they tell you several times when you order), they open at 4 EVERY day.... no earlier and they won't answer ANY calls until 4 or after. So no pre-orders. Ok once again not a huge deal. Well we ordered the HIGHLY recommended pizza with cheese and pepperoni. First of all the men here are RUDE. From calling to order to picking up the pizza. Very very rude. Next we ordered at 4 drove from N.T., to pick it up (35 min) and brought it home ready to dig in. Upon opening the box we were shocked at how thrown together without any care. Ok once again no big deal it all boils down to the taste right?..... HA.... not here... in comparison to the look it tasted even WORSE. Or I should say NO TASTE... chewy, tough, blah and worse. Absolutely the best pizza in the Lockport, NY area . . . and over the years, I have tried them all. Jim Lynch has been making and serving pizza in Lockport since the 1960's. Formerly the force behind Pontillo's, he has operated Lock City for nearly 20 years. This is an old-school pizza operation . . . they offer pizza, subs and wings . . . period. It is a "cash only" operation like in the old days, and cranks out a pizza that is superb. Sometimes I go basic cheese, pep mush . .. but I also enjoy their pie with everything in the house, save for anchovies. I need to do a bit of weight lifting before I order one of those babies, so I can carry it to the car. Their wings are among the best in Lockport as well .. . always plump, just the right degree of crispy on the outside and meaty and juicy on the inside. Again . . . basic wings served plain, mild, medium or hot . . . no fancy foo-foo flavors. The world has been overwhelmed by trendy pizza places serving pies with gluten-free, whole wheat, stone ground crust, responsibly sourced organic veggie toppings and tofu and free range meat toppings rather than good old flavorful sausage and real pepperoni that has a wonderful little puddle of grease around it when it comes out of the oven and wings from free range chickens that were organically fed, administered their last rites before they were humanely terminated and served 20 different ways, none of which resemble how a real chicken wing should taste . . . all of which are nice, but NOT real pizza and wings. Give yourself a treat . . . free yourself of the trendy and get back to real pizza and wings. I have not had any of their subs so I cannot comment on them. Way way back in the day this used to be called Pontillos and it was a Lockport institution, a local favorite. I have to admit it has gone down hill over the years but it's still really good- when you get a good one. And there in lies the rub, consistency is the problem with Lockcity. One pizza will be what you remember from years past and the next week you'll order it and it will be burnt garbage. The fact that a good pizza from here is an amazing experience makes me order one whenever I go home, I just say a prayer, kiss a horseshoe and keep my fingers crossed until I pick it up. read more

This would be awesome pizza... except for the super soggy dough towards the middle of the pizza! Gross! I've given it 4-5 tries and each time terrible. I thought maybe it was the onions doing it so ordered no onions one time and nope not the onions. Maybe the mushrooms?... nope! Reviews were not encouraging, but it is close and less expensive than the other 2 establishments located steps away. I did not expect great, but I expected respectable. I am easily pleased when it comes to wings and pizza. I recently moved back to the area after decades of missing wings, local pizzas and Friday fish fries. It was awful. Maybe they got some great discount on salt because that was the only aspect of both the pizza and the wings that we noticed - it was that crazy. I can deal with rude and surly (take-out, go figure) if the product is good - after all I am only engaging with them for a few brief moments. They appeared to be adequately staffed so that can be no excuse. I cannot imagine who is keeping these people in business, there is nothing to recommend them. Always get this pizza when I come home to visit. Cheese, pepperoni, half onion. It's good. I grew up on it. They give you the smallest paper plates to eat from if you eat there. It's funny. Go with it. Our bring your own plates. I usually drink coca cola but I like Pepsi with lock city. read more

Went in last night and there was about four guys in there wiping down the counters. Asked them if they sell slices and they told us no, then asked how long before a pizza can be ready and they told us a half hour! Noone was doing anything but standing around starring at us. Then on our way out one of the males yelled "they sell slices at 711" with a cocky attitude! Very disappointed. read more

Hey Lock City- remember getting a call last night about your hours along with an inquiry about your product? Well you were extremely rude and bafflingly so- you hung up on my friend- and I have a tip for you. You're a pizzeria in Lockport, not some elite Michelin star restaurant in a major city. if customer service is a problem for you, go back to school and become an electrical engineer or NASA lab technician so you can avoid human contact and try to substantiate your elite arrogance. Or perhaps phone a master chef and see if you can get an upgrade. Until then- make your food and have some respect for the people who keep your doors open. I would give less stars except the pizza here is okay and I've had positive interactions with staff here in the past so I don't want this to impact them. I don't get it. If you have had to much to drink, add another star, you won't notice the crappiness as much. This place is a Lockport legend, I don't know why. Lets start with the wacky way they desecrate a pizza - why? Next, if you don't let this pizza cool to room temp, every topping will slide off in a greasy flump! Whenever I go back home to visit the family, I get Lock City at least 3 times. (I will always call it Pontillos though) It has never ever been any different than it was 30 years ago. My favorite pizza on the planet, bar none. They don't try to be fancy, and they don't deal well with idiots, and I like that and respect that very much. The 1-star reviews could easily be from people that annoyed them or called and didn't know what they wanted, taking too much time, or just sounding like your basic d-bag. I say good for them. One of the VERY best pizzas in Western New York and I am baffled by the poor reviews. Yes this is an "old school" pizza place and may not be for everyone. It is a unique pizza and there really isn't another pizza around like it. To me the crust and the sauce are the best. My guess is the people giving bad reviews prefer Pizza Hut or Domino's and not fresh hand tossed brick oven pizza. read more

If you need your pizza quick then this probably isn't the place. If you need it to be an amazing pizza, then it doesn't get much better. Loaded with toppings, sauce and cheese this pizza is a beast. Like I said it's not the fastest (you'll usually wait an hour) but it's the best. They got the perfect amount of whatever you want on their pie and each add to the flavor of the others. They are also one of the few places who consistently do their wings extra crispy when asked. And they aren't all dried out. Just bought a pizza for our crew of hard-working emergency responders at a major factory in the area. Never got pizza from here before personally so I left it up the crew to pick a place. It was delivered, seemed nice and hot, however when I went to grab a piece, all of the toppings fell off onto the cardboard box. Tried another piece, same thing happened. I called to inquire what may have gone wrong, I spoke with Bobby. He was very rude, no customer service techniques at all! I asked him what may have been the problem, since he is in the pizza business and he had the nerve to say maybe their ingredients were too fresh. He only offered to come and pick up the uneaten portion and did not offer another to replace it. I will call back and speak to the owner. Very rude for a person in charge. read more
