This is by far some of the BEST Greek food we have ever had! We ordered a wide range of entrees including the stuffed grape leaves, seafood lasagna and bone marrow soup. While we were waiting the owner had sent out a delightful array of different house made dips for us to try while we waited. Tip get their eggplant dip it had the best flavor and the garlic in it puts it over the top! The grape leaves were the best I have ever had and literally melted in your mouth. The Greek lemon potatoes were perfectly cooked as well and the lasagna was flavorful and full of flavor. The bone marrow soup as well was nice and thick and had excellent flavor and the lentils were a nice touch. The service was on point and everyone was welcoming and friendly and accommodating. A special shout out to the owner as she personally came out to make sure we were enjoying our meal and if she could get us anything else. We will definitely be back when we are in town and highly recommend taking the time to come out to Loi. You will not be disappointed!! read more

This is an amazing Greek place if you're looking for some tasty and healthy. When we sat down, the waiter said they only use olive oil, no butter or fried food. The menu focused on seafood with a couple chicken and lamb options. I had the best wine. At $110 for the bottle, we got the best wine in the place, which was a blend of cab sauv and cab franc. It was really smooth and paired well with everything. I got octopus for the appetizer which came with a fava bean spread. The octopus was grilled perfectly and paired so well with the fava beans. I ended up eating the bread with that spread too. For entrees, my husband got chicken and I got branzino. The chicken came in the most flavorful delicious sauce. I couldn't stop eating it. The branzino had no bones in and was nice and lemony. Service was fantastic. Everyone was attentive. I've also never seen the chef come to each table and talk with all the guests. The food has a home-cooked quality and the desserts were phenomenal (we tried a phyllo/custard one and a yogurt with honey which was absolutely delicious!) The hostess made us feel welcome as it was our first time there and was enthusiastic about order suggestions. As a vegetarian, I tried the moussouka, but they said the soups could be all made vegetarian as well. The artichokes and peas dish was way more peas than artichoke, so I probably wouldn't order that again. The restaurant overall has a warm community feel. We were told about Loi by the Plaza and it was sooooo worth the short walk to find it. Unbelievably good service, incredible food made our day! We were just looking for a snack having missed lunch for our Central Park carriage ride. We had the trio of spreads, calamari and a shareable salad with fabulous feta. We then had baklava and complimentary yogurt with honey. All I can say is AMAZING! Maria Loi visited our table for a nice chat ... delightful. Don't miss Loi when you tour Central Park. I had high hopes based on the good reviews. They were fully booked on opentable but on the phone, they obliged and saved us a spot at the bar which was very nice. Service was friendly and gave suggestions on food and wines. He was generous with the tasting pours of wine. I just wish he would have warned us that both the entrees we ordered had the same exact pasta base. We got the lamb shank which was tender enough but not amazing served over orzo. The seafood with orzo came with 1 scallop, 3 shrimp, and some mussles....not much to split a another person. The dish was nothing to rave about. For $40 per dish, i would have expected more. The octopus app underwhelming too...it was a bit charred and over cooked. Besides good service I would expected better food at the price point. I have no regrets for trying at least read more

Fantastic food and service. After traveling through Greece for close to a month we've been missing the food and disappointed in the lack of authenticity of Greek food in NY. Loi changed that. Everything was just as good as the food that we had in Greece. Some standouts are the tzatziki, spinach pie, mushroom barley soup, and grape leaves but you can't go wrong with anything that you order. Very nice people too. read more

Loi Estiatorio has always served up extremely satisfying Greek food. I recommend all the fish dishes; the appetizers are all quite spectacular too - especially the octopus. They are quite busy most weekends so try and get a reservation but I've been able to get seated just by walking in. Very friendly staff. I went to Loi Estiatorio with my friends Vanessa S. and Zachary H. while I was visiting New York last month. We wanted a decent place to eat in midtown, and the Yelp reviews here looked promising. We were able to make a same-day reservation for 7:00 on a Saturday night. Not a hot spot, apparently, but we appreciated the ease. We could have walked in if we wanted to. The restaurant was relatively quiet, and I'm pretty sure there were empty tables the whole time we were there. I liked the calm, friendly atmosphere, and service was good, warm and welcoming. I think the chef was there, making the rounds. This was both nice and a little unsettling. We didn't finish everything and this seemed to make her sad. I felt a bit like I'd slighted a hardworking aunt. We shared a bottle of Greek white wine with our dinner--the whole list was Greek, which is worth noting if you have strong feelings about Greek wine. It was pleasant enough, if on the sweet side, and it worked with the food. Dinner kicked off with a complimentary mason jar of yogurt, feta, olive oil, and tomato, a splendid, flavorful dip served with toasted pita. This was one of the highlights of our meal, which was more hit or miss than it should have been, given the steep midtown price point. We went family style on everything, starting with the village salad, the calamari, and the octopus. The village salad was my favorite of the appetizers. It was an ideal Greek salad, bright and fresh, with tomato, red onion, green pepper, cucumber, Kalamata olives, feta, and olive oil. The calamari was nicely cooked, tender and toothsome, if a bit underseasoned. It came with olive oil over a bed of arugula, with a grilled lemon on the side. The octopus, though, was no good. There were some decent flavors there--it was prepared with red wine, onions, bell peppers, capers, and a fava bean purée--but the octopus itself was tough and dry, surprisingly bad for an otherwise solid restaurant. The entrees were better. We got the lamb shank and the salmon, with a side of kounoupidi. The lamb shank was the best dish of the night, a delicious hulking mass of lamb so tender it fell off the bone, cooked with tomato, onion, red wine, and lamb jus, over a bed of irresistible, slippery Loi orzo. The salmon wasn't quite as exciting, but it was a nice piece of fish, served with Idaho potato, olive oil, and Kalamata olives. The kounoupidi was a good vegetable side dish, a soupy bowl of tomato-steeped cauliflower. We weren't planning on dessert, but the kitchen sent out some complimentary Greek yogurt with honey and walnuts. This was wonderful, another highlight of our meal, so smooth and creamy, with a little tang and just the right amount of sweetness from the honey. Loi Estiatorio is the kind of restaurant that would be worth returning to regularly, if you knew what to order and it was more or less in your neighborhood (it would also help if the price point were a little lower). I live across the country, so am unlikely to go back, but I enjoyed my visit. I won't forget that lamb shank anytime soon. read more

I am anti yelp, however I know that there are many people that use it as a decision maker... so with that I leave places reviews only if they are worth.... and LOI is so very worthy. First off I will say, we eat Greek food often and it takes a lot to make us happy. The food here was to die for, the wine truly amazing ... but most importantly was the atmosphere that makes you one step closer to an old NY, and old family gathering and a traditional meal. Holy toledo this Greek food was good. The glowing yelp reviews are accurate, this place is SO good. Like many other places I visited in new york, there were no issues of me dining alone. The hostess and the waitstaff were very friendly. I asked what he recommended and he suggested the octopus and the branzino- done! When I sat down they brought pougi- a creamy delight that google tells me is a mix of feta and greek yogurt. I probably could have eaten this whole thing in one sitting. Anyway, the octopus was perfectly cooked, just tender enough and not at all fishy. The branzino was great in its presentation and taste. It also came with a roasted lemon that would help boost the flavor a little bit. Would definitely recommend going here! read more

I came here on a Tuesday night after an event, with high expectations as I had heard that it was great. It is a somewhat small location, with a small bar, and skinny narrow dinning space. They served a ricotta, and yogurt spread with pita when we sat down. The spread came in a jar which I thought was an interesting way to serve it, as you could not really dip the pita you had to use a spoon. The spread was very rich, and defiantly worth it. The menu is expensive, and focused towards Mediterranean cuisine, specifically sea food. I had the crab cakes to start which I believe was a "chef special", and a shrimp and cheese pasta dish for dinner. The crab cakes (two) were big, but honestly not very flavor-full. I felt like the crab was a little dry, which is a weird way to describe crab in general but thats the only way i can describe it. I drenched it in lemon after a few bites. My pasta was actually very good, although a little over cooked, but the marinara was very well done, and the cheese was great. It had chunks of goat cheese I believe in it which was interesting with the shrimp. The shrimps had tails on them, which is a little annoying but all in all a solid dish. The staff was very nice here, but apparently it is hard to get a table, and people linger here for a while so if you come early you will for sure wait. All things considered this is an interesting place to come to, and for sure expensive so expect to pay top dollar, I give this place the nod, but i do think there is better out there for the price. read more

We met Maria walking to the Plaza hotel one night. From the moment we met her she was so friendly and nice. Her warm smile and kindness made us feel so welcomed to NYC and her restaurant. We then dined in her restaurant- the warm, friendly atmosphere was perfect. The food was amazing. We all loved it even our children who are picky eaters ate their food and enjoyed it. What a treat! From the moment we arrived to the restaurant to the time we regrettably had to leave to catch a show, the experience was top notch! We had a selection of appetizers, followed by servings of lamb shank, eggplant casserole and Greek lasagna, topping it off with a variety of desserts. Each and every serving was perfect in every way...absolutely delicious. The selection of wine was also pleasing including several Greek wines not commonly found on shelves. But beyond the menu, the food, the wine, the ambiance, the Loi team was the finest I have experienced. The warm welcome and the genuine hospitality throughout our dining experience will be remembered. My only regret is that we don't live in the city, but we will be returning to Loi each visit! Went here for lunch! Had the prix fixe menu. Ordered the calamari, octopus (upcharge) for appetizers, Branzino (upcharge of $12) and chicken for main course! Branzino is to die for, pretty much anything off the menu if I'm being honest. Last but certainly not least... the baklawa. Get it. (This Egyptian gives the Baklawa 5 stars). Chicken soup. Best I've ever had. Super simple but INCREDIBLE. Shredded chicken at the bottom and served table side with in insane broth. Wow. Greek salad. The freshest ingredients. Nothing to take away from the flavor of the tomato cucumber or olive. Fresh / natural / delicious. Nothing heavy handed. Branzino. Excellent. I eat at Kokkari about once per month. I ordered take out from here tonight because I felt like eating something fancy at home, I had no idea I would be in for such a treat. The menu has a great variety of vegetarian items - I got the arugula salad, the stuffed eggplant, lemon roasted potatoes and the galataboureko for dessert. First let me start by describing the takeout experience - I walk in and the Maitre d opened the door and had my order ready. The chef, Maria, came up and began to chat with me while I waited for card to ring up. She offered me some of her homemade yogurt and honey and then even gave me an entire bottle of some Greek olive oil she had on display. The Greek yogurt was so thick and creamy, and it tasted so good with the perfect amount of tartness. The food I ordered came with grilled pita that was cut into strips (delicious, I think they sprinkled some evoo on it) and these delicious shortbread like cookies that were amazing. I will likely be going back just to eat more of those! Now the food. The arugula salad came with walnuts, beats and cheese. The dressing was a vinaigrette with lots of olive oil, it was great, my only suggestion for it is to add a bit more of the vinegar base. The lemon roasted potatoes were everything I could have wanted - I love lemon and I love roasted potatoes and they were perfectly seasoned. Finally the stuffed eggplant, amazing. The flavors were excellent because the eggplant was perfectly cooked, and despite this being a vegetarian dish the eggplant has a richness to it that left me feeling very satisfied. Finally I really enjoyed my desserts! We started off with their grilled octopus that was amazing. Incredibly tender, sliced in long thin pieces and served in a delightful sauce. Then we had entrees of Branzino with seasonal greens in olive oil. The Branzino was perfectly cooked and delicate in flavor; we also had moussaka- the eggplant was in an excellent meat based sauce. We finished with shredded Phyllo custard desert as well as their Baklava. Delish! Accompanied by a bottle of delightful, fresh and crisp white wine recommended by our server. I arrived late to a dinner at Loi Estiatorio so a friend ordered a sampling of dishes for me. I tried the octopus, the tiger prawn, an the yogurt, which was unreal. The octopus was flavorful and celebrated the texture/flavor of the seafood itself, whilst the tiger prawn was flavorful and cooked perfectly with a gorgeous texture. I didn't think I would have room for dessert, but when I tried the yogurt, I couldn't help but savor each bite and finish every bit of it. The only regrettable part of the meal was that I didn't get to eat enough of the pita/spread that was complimentary to the table. The chef was super sweet and kind and checked in with our table several times. We were one of the last tables but no one rushed us out. The Calamari was possibly the best I have ever had (and that is saying something). I wasn't going to get the mussels because I thought, eh, I can get mussels anywhere. WRONG. These were fantastic.
