Curiously, there aren't that many Chinese restaurants in Eugene. This one in the west side of town is fairly good. They moved from a much smaller place nearby, into a newly remodeled space. Guess they're so busy they haven't had time to decorate (the walls are bare). Although lacking decor, the atmosphere is loud and fast paced during a Friday dinner. Lots of "to go" orders flying out and a good pace of diners. As expected, the combo plates are common and HUGE! Plan on taking a box home for sure. I ordered #6 combo- egg flower soup, sweet & sour pork, pork fried rice, fried shrimp and chicken chow mein. First let me tell you the hot mustard was hot: cleared my sinus' a couple of times. Just how I like it! The fried rice lacked flavor while the s&s pork was oily. The fried shrimp aren't tempura style, but butterflied and panko style. My favorite is the subgum chow mien. Lots of chicken and flavor. Quantity is big, quality ok. Service is good but sporadic. read more

We have been going to this great Chinese restaurant for years! We love the service and the great food. I love the egg flower soup and any of the Lo mein dishes! We have traveled all over the US and this is the best Chinese food we have ever found. They are only doing takeout now not because of COVID but because they can't find help for the restaurant like lots of other restaurants in town. Stop paying more unemployment to people and let them go back to work!! It is degrading to stay home and collect "FREE" money instead of getting a job and having some pride in your accomplishments! I got the kung pao tofu and my friend got the tofu and garlic veggies. Delivery was in good time and the food portions were gigantic! We will be eating on these for days. However, the food was rather bland. The kung pao was not spicy at all despite being advertised spicy and my friend found herself adding more garlic and spice to her stir fry. Be careful when ordering from here. The order dinner from here last night for our family and friends. Our two children where the only ones who did not eat the food. everybody who did, woke up this morning with food poisoning. Incredible amounts of pain, full body chills, and all the other lovely stuff that goes along with food poisoning. Are you still love ordering from here but since the management changed it seems to be going down hill. I even made a Facebook post about it to find out that I'm not the only one who's had experiences like this from lok yaun in the past few months. I am sorry..but this is NOT the place for Asian people. The portion is large but the food quality is just so poor. It's way too salty and looks quite unappetizing. Do not order combo number 16. The chowmein we ordered was supposed to have crunchy noodles. They used the "crunchy noodle" salad topping. Like the croutons you would purchase at a grocery market. What the hell? I would have rather flown all the way back to California just to eat my mother's cooking if it weren't for finals. I feel as if they didn't try. The server we had though, was very nice and courteous. Lok Yaun is a really popular restaurant there is always a wait and always a line which, yes you have to wait but that is a good sign. If you have a large family or appetite, this is the place to go. It is affordable and you get a pretty good amount of food for it. My go to dish here is the sesame chicken and fried rice. Also the pots tickers are good as well. The service here is good, but it is not there fault because it is just so darn busy that they need to get through people quickly. You won't get the best chinese food, but it will be good and won't hurt your wallet. read more

One of my all time favorite Chinese places in Eugene (Check out Twin Dragons for a different vibe but also awesome food)... The food is plentiful (ie HUGE portions) and cooked fresh. Their egg drop soup is always fresh and fantastic. Cup is a normal portion of a cup... the bowl, however, is freaking HUGE - definitely shareable. The hot tea is fantastic as always although I don't know how this could be done wrong. The daily special (mar far chicken, pork steak, pork fried rice and chicken subgum).... OUTSTANDING and HUGE PORTION -- definitely will be taking some home. These are all my favorites so this is generally what I get. The mar far chicken has more breading than I normally like but it is always crisp. The pork slices are awesome and always lean and cooked well. The pork fried rice is actually very tasty as well and I am not a huge fan of rice in general. The chicken subgum has a ton of fresh celery, peas etc and so it is very green. The sauce is excellent and it is served atop crunchy noodles. The Lemon Chicken (one of my moms favorites) is quickly becoming one of my favorites. Their sauce is out of this world awesome. The lemon flavor is just FANTASTIC... the chicken is crisp and just frankly this dish is awesome. Wish it had veggies too because that would be fantastic. This place is definitely well known to locals and it is a seemingly hole in the wall type of place but ohhh so good and affordable for the portions. Service is generally very prompt and the servers focus but don't chat much. Update from 9/2015 ... The Egg Drop soup is awesome -- I recently had a bad cough and just wanted this -- although chilled it is somewhat gelatinous heated up it is still awesome! read more

Lok Yaun is good in the sense that we eat it out of the convenience of no real Chinese food that we used to have in the Eugene area that I used to remember. This is more of the Americanized style of it if you ask me. I still eat it and don't mind it if that's what I'm in the mood for because we go here for the special and it feeds at least 2-3. Just order extra soup. If you want more authentic Chinese food this is not the place for you. And if you have found it in Eugene please let me know because it has been missing for years! This was our go to favorite for years but now not so much. They moved to an old bar down the street, gutted it and now looks like a Willamette Dental office. No traditional decorations of red and gold. So sad. Their food has taken a dive also I'm afraid. Their soup is still good and would kill for the recipe for their sweet and sour sauce. I would love to get permission from owner and refurbish to it's old glory! My soul withered when owner said they were doing away with dessert of ice-cream or sherbet. I like the General Tso's chicken. It's fried just right! I remember coming here around Chinese New Year; it was packed! Luckily I ordered to-go! Got my food and jet! The specials are pretty good too and cheap! I think this place might be just as cheap as Panda Express. Perhaps, even cheaper because they give you SO much food! Finally got my Chinese fix tonight! This is my usual "go to" restaurant when I'm craving delicious food! I always get the daily special which is fried rice, chicken subgum chow mein, sweet and sour chicken, bbq pork and a cup of egg flower soup. For $9.50, you get a lot of leftovers! You could easily feed two people with this meal. We also had crab puffs as an appetizer and they were good but could be a little less greasy. I realize they are deep fried, but our plate was coated with oil once we were done with them. I really enjoy the food here and haven't had a bad experience. Food was extra extra crispy like was to long in the fryer or the frying oil hasn't been changed in months. My favorite part was every time we got served the waitress had her finger inserted. I'm not even sure where to start. This was the worst Chinese food I've ever had. The pork, chicken, and rice were bone dry with no flavor. The chicken had pieces varying from 1-5" long, much like thicker curly fries. The only salvageable item was the chow mein, which did have fresh and crunchy vegetables. All takeout orders were over 30 minutes, but 3-4 frustrated Grub Hub delivery drivers were pacing around as well waiting for their orders. I also had to go back because they forgot to put any orange sauce, mustard, seeds, napkins or forks. More surprising was the restaurant was busy, but that being said, hire more employees to keep the quality control edible or just cutoff the Grub Hub and produce better food. Lok Yaun is pretty much the place to go to for an American in need of decent quality Chinese takeout food. To be honest, I haven't tried most of the menu, but I have tried your pedestrian white guy staples many times. Favorites? The Pork Fried Rice is a good amount of greasy and comes with extra pork on top, which you sometimes don't get at other places (see LZ, a much more traditional Chinese restaurant). All the flavors are represented well, and the large portions are enough to feed you many times over. Pork dumplings (similar to Gyoza) are large, semi-firm, and packed full of meaty deliciousness! I'm pretty sure that's the Chinese way of doing it, and I love it. They could be a meal on their own! Kung Pao Chicken is pretty decent, but nothing insane. Many good-sized pieces of chicken and always a large portion. The -1 star is because everything is so oily to the point where you feel like you're eating directly from the wok, but it's part of the territory. All-in-all a solid place to eat! Thanks! read more
