I had always wanted to try this cantina as i walked past here many times. Lolita's is located very close to 92nd St Y, In early November I stopped off to try them out out. The restaurant is not ADA friendly as you need to climb some steps. once inside the eatery is a subdued but, romantic spot with comfortable seating. I ordered a quesadilla. As visiting tourists, we were trying to find a cuisine that would be different from all the NY pizza and Italian food we planned to eat. Since we have a great selection of Mexican food here in AZ, we were hoping for the best with Lolita's. It did not disappoint. I had a steak burrito wrap and everything about it was really good- from the meat, to the rice, beans etc. I also liked how they included some mixed greens on the side. Drink specials on a Saturday afternoon included a $6 margarita and $6 sangria - portion a little smaller than your usual place but still fair for the price. It is an awesome thing to find a new spot when using Yelp! I saw this place had 4 stars and said it is close, so let's do it. Well I disagree with 4 stars cause I give it FIVE! excellent burger (chipotle) ask for medium and got medium. Need taste and got wonderful flavor! Everything was fresh, even the fries! If I had one complaint, I wish they had a better ketchup than Heinz. So many great organic ketchups. Service is sometimes surly, and take-out usually takes a little longer than expected, but the affordable prices make it tough to complain a whole lot. The burgers are above average and the fries are solid (wish they'd give more). It's cheaper than most other burgers in the 'hood and you're not losing much in terms of quality. Doesn't look like much when you walk past but I was dying of hunger when i popped in. Its a beautiful day and i wanted to sit outside and enjoy the sunshine without burning . They have a nice little casita outside and i was able to give my my mom a ring. Ordered the fish tacos that i was a little skeptical of at first but honestly pretty glad i got them. Fantastic place a short walk from the Met. This hidden gem has absolutely delicious food that tastes homemade, big portions, and very affordable. For $10 I ordered the grilled chicken platter and got a huge plate of delicious thin chicken breast with onions, yellow rice and beans. All delicious! My husband and son went with the the tacos, carne asada and carnitas and added the rice and beans and they both loved them. My daughter had the chicken tenders which were also great. To start off let me explain the fact that we visited this restaurant every quarter in the year at least, and have been before the pandemic. So I was taken aback that they changed the menu items and increased the price of all the old item to almost double (the price of beef nachos went from from $9 to $17). Now the worst part was they had a dish, named chimichuri steak that contained pork sausage but it did not say it in English or in large text with the cimichurri steak on the menu. When we asked the waitress what it was after the order came, she said it was chorizo, which was sausage. So told I her that I do not eat pork and why was that not on the menu. She said chorizo mean sausage. How was I supposed to know chorizo was pork? The owner needs to translate meat products into English instead of assuming everyone knows what that is. I assumed it was a herb that was used in chimichurri. Also did I mention the food took over 40 minutes to come when it was just my girlfriend and I, and a family of four in the entire restaurant. In the end we decided to just give the food to someone else since it was a $24 dish and barely touched.. so I asked the waitress to give me the check and the food to go. She brings the check and says she will take the food but throws it in the garbage. I guess there was a misunderstanding or she did not hear me why did she somehow expects me to pay for food she threw away. It was barely touched because of the pork! In the end, I did get my money back. But this location has lost a loyal customer. Yes, their service is not horrible because the waitresses are nice and they do not control the prices or menu, however throwing the food in the garbage was uncalled for. I appreciate they gave me back my money but this was a bad experience overall. read more

Lolita's has good food, great prices, and excellent service. There are plenty of vegetarian options. You can't go wrong. The garden salad was fresh and simple, with a delicious dressing. The veggie burrito was huge and tasted great. I appreciated that it was mostly veggies/beans/guac and not mostly rice, unlike most places. It came with a side salad, which was a nice addition. While I was there, on a Tuesday evening, there was fun R&B/hip hop music playing, but not too loud to make conversation difficult. It's a great place for a casual, filling dinner on the UES that won't stress you out when you do your monthly budget. Great place in the hood for margaritas and tapas on a summer evening. Warm waitstaff who have been working there for years, they really care and go the extra mile. The restaurant itself is small but the outdoor seating is ample and there's a fun, relaxed vibe. I really enjoyed the quesadilla appetizer, I chose mine to be stuffed with mushrooms and spinach. Guacamole is fresh with jalapeños in it by default. The chips that accompany them are a bit too thick and hard for my taste, but I recognize that it is authentic. Restaurant in clear violation of the law. They bring over the check, you pay with a credit card (no where on the check does it state that their is a credit card fee) you get the receipt and their is a fee. I would have paid cash if you informed the customer- but since you are shady about it- and it's illegal in New York State- I am going to file a chargeback and win. It is illegal and against the law in New York State to charge a Fee for using on credit card, but it's even worse not to write it anyway until after you've paid the bill. If you are getting food to go, make sure you ask for a recipe- they will charge you a fee for using your credit card without even telling you. I understand that's this is a small business and they don't want to pay the credit card fees- but since it's illegal- and they are trying to hide it I urge you to chargeback on your credit card like I am. They will pay all the chargeback fees and then realize they shouldn't have been shady about the 3% read more
