In the contract there is no mention of stair surcharges either, so it feels like the individual movers that performed the work added this on top of the contracted fee. The movers did not speak English fluently which added to the confusion over payment and breakdown of costs. Overall the job was performed as expected but the final costs were way more than expected.

One company estimated one-and-a-half 27-foot trucks, while Royal and another company estimated one 27-foot truck. My move-out apartment was 895 sq ft with a large patio. Before moving day, I made two 10-foot Home Depot truck trips myself with the delicate and bulky items: my electric bike, Peloton, and other things that don't stack well. Royal filled a 27-foot truck with everything else, efficiently using all the available space. We did go a little over the estimate because of rush-hour traffic. The only part I didn't enjoy was the payment app prompting for a tip at checkout. After a long moving day, that was one unnecessary stress point because I never know what's considered an appropriate tip for professional movers. Fortunately, I had already planned ahead with cash tips and cold Gatorades for the crew throughout the day. I highly recommend Royal Movers. They made a difficult move much easier. I also gained a whole new respect for my son, his friend, and my old girlfriend, who helped me move the last time. While I'd originally planned my move for June or July, the perfect apartment came available and I had to take it - which meant moving in a matter of days. After panicking, I searched on Google and saw a list on Yelp of the top 10 Long Beach moving companies. The reviews for this company were so good, I had to give them a call and I am so glad that I did. John gave me all the information and explained everything to me very clearly. I liked that they had a flat rate with no hidden surprises. And even though it was relatively short notice, he set me up with my preferred moving date. On that day - today - Nikita and Ivan came to help me move and they were absolutely wonderful! I couldn't have asked for better guys. I was stressed about not having everything packed, but they told me not to worry and took care of all the little extra things. Great experience! I would definitely use these guys again. The foreman, Hayk, was professional and helpful. He took enough time to listen to what we wanted to move, and how, and then he and his crew dove right in and worked hard for 5 hours straight. I think the only break they really got was halfway through, when they drove the truck 10 minutes to the new house. They handled both heavy furniture and fragile items with care. They worked at a good pace and the job was done as quickly as possible, especially considering there were stairs at both locations. Crew members Nurzhan and Vladimir were awesome. We had our move 2 days ago. We were asking for someone who is great with assembling/dissasembling, since we got a lot of furniture to take apart. Guys, Nick and Andrew, did a great job: they wrap all the valuables with a blankets and brought plenty of wardrobes for the small boxes we had. They also got an insurance, just in case. I was skeptical because I found them on craigslist. I should have just paid more for a better…read morecompany. Sure they were very quick and were able to fit all my stuff in one truck, but not everything made it to the final destination in one piece. I had a 40 piece collection of beer steins,(they were wrapped and packaged very well by myself) all shattered, all of my brand new furniture had scrapes and dents in it covered up by black sharpie marker, and they broke my boxspring mattress and the frame to my bed. It was a horrible experience and I would never EVER recommend them to anyone!!! I wish I could get my money back for damages they caused.

I wish he and his assistant had been the ones to move me, since their reviews were so stellar. I'm writing this so that someone else does not experience the same problems. - They were on time / early. - The two movers were friendly. - The truck seemed clean. - The correspondence with the owner was prompt and informative. - The rates were competitive. - They did complete the move in one trip. - They did bring it to my attention when something was damaged before moving it. - The owner was fair and helpful in trying to resolve what I'm about to say... Unfortunately, my negative experience with this company outweighs any of the above. The movers showed up early set up the truck while the other walked through my apartment. We were good to go. They were polite.I was previously quoted 3-4 hours for the move of an upper one bedroom/one office to a one bedroom less than a mile away. I explained that the only large appliance I had was a barbeque. My furniture included a bed, a couch, a chair and ottoman, a coffee table, various accent tables, a chest, dining room table and four chairs and a dresser. The rest of my items were framed artwork, lamps or boxed belongings. The only items that needed to be disassembled were my table and my bed. The items in my "office" were actually the dining room table and dresser. No office equipment. Four hours later, the truck was still being packed up, which is when I got on the truck and started helping myself. As items were removed from the house, I had to stop and ask them to cover them. For a small item, I can understand, but I was asking them to wrap things that were obviously fragile and expensive (painting, a brand new table). I had anxiety watching some of the things go into the truck unprotected. As we got closer to finishing, I walked through the apartment and found that they had missed a wicker chest of drawers in the closet and the barbeque. I had to remind them. They were polite about missing the items, but it didn't seem that there was room in the truck. When they brought the wicker chest down, they took the drawers out to make the piece fit. They weren't wrapped or covered, and when we arrived at the new place my items were falling out and being walked on (underwear, embarrassing)! As for the barbeque, they set it down with muddy rollers on the carpet of my old apartment. It's heavy and awkward, I get it... but yikes. They removed my TV from the wall bracket. They never did remove the brackets. I came back for all of the cords. The last straw for me was when I asked them for the wardrobe boxes. Izzy and I had discussed this prior to the move. Per their website, we were "planning ahead". They did not have any, even though I was told this would be no problem. Maybe they weren't provided with them? They had plastic wrap but hardly used it. Their solution to the wardrobe was putting all of the clothes in a blanket and taping it closed. It was later explained to me by Izzy that those boxes can be cumbersome and take more time....seems unprofessional, which is the word I would use to describe my overall experience. Once we arrived at the new apartment, things went pretty quickly. I noticed things were damaged and took photos both on and off the truck. I brought them to the attention of the movers. They called Izzy. Izzy called me. We discussed the problems. He was apologetic and fair, but stood by his movers and their experience. He explained that there may have been more in my apartment than anticipated if the truck was at capacity. I have a lot of stuff. But, you pay by the hour and not the number of boxes you have. If this was a problem, the movers should have called Izzy at the time of the walk through or even explained the same to me. Or, maybe the company should consider seeing a location if there is any doubt. Anyway, I explained what was happening and how I should have never been on that truck working. He apologized. He offered to come out and inspect the furniture and put things back together later in the week. He also offered to install a door that I was going to pay the movers to install originally. I'm glad I passed. We compromised on the moving rate, so at least I was within my budget, which was fair and generous. Again, Izzy was kind throughout the complaint. I still tipped the movers. I realize that moving is not easy or painless. They did work hard. It just wasn't what I was expecting, even at a lower cost. Moving is already stressful enough as it is, I was hoping that paying movers would alleviate some of this. It made it worse. I guess you get what you pay for.
