I've been there 3 times. Twice we had a waitress where English was not her primary language. She had so much trouble understanding our simple order. It had to be repeated so many times and she just didn't seem to understand things we said. She also wasn't pro-active with coming by to see when we needed a coffee re-fill. The bagels are just too "doughy" and kinda' small. A young man was at the register when I went to pay. Not a word... no hello, no thank you... no, how was everything.... and no goodbye. Sadly, this cafe does not make the grade. It has the potential for being a local's favorite, just not as long as they knowingly serve food this bad. They served an omelet that was not only burned on the bottom, but a dark brown on the top. It was so overdone, the eggs tasted singed. The kitchen staff is also unaware of cooking eggs to different wellness. One way: well done. My soft scrambled eggs were a solid lump. The grits were cold and also a solid lump. I have been to this place several times but today was certainly my last. We ordered our food and after we were at our table for over 30 minutes and 3 parties that came in after us and were served their food, ate and left the restaurant, we decided to leave. When I went to pay for our drinks then the waitress decided to tell us that it was taking so long because of a pork chop. When I explained to her that they could have said something as to why others were getting served, she said she didn't have to tell people that. I disagreed and proceeded to pay for the drinks we ordered. She then started to explain that a medium well burger will be quicker to cook than a well done burger. What does they have to do with my order when I ordered at least 10-15 minutes prior to some of the other tables. Had breakfast here at the Long Island Cafe... that is breakfast on Saturday afternoon. I was referred here by a friend who said they have great food. That statement is true. The food is really great. Its a tiny spot with about 9 booths and a smattering of tables in the middle of the restaurant. It was very clean. And has a diner vibe which is fitting. Definitely a diner. What is most memorable for me is the service which was top notch. The servers were very attentive and there were two. They were a team and shared the responsibility for all the table. I really liked that a lot. I had the two eggs and hash browns with dry rye toast and tomatoes. The eggs and hash was absolutely delicious. The tomatoes and toast, just meh... Also shared some of the mushroom florentine omelette which was fresh and really tasty. If I venture back, I will have to have a whole one for myself. Okay so here comes the reason I gave this spot 3 stars and not 4. The COFFEE... It was weak approaching flavourless. The only reason this is even an issue for me is I hate, hate, hate weak coffee. Long Island Cafe has a quaint, intimate atmosphere and is great for two or more. Cops and firefighters go there often... if first responders eat there, the food must be good. My GF and I walked in the door at 2:17pm on a Saturday. This location closes at 3pm. There were two other customers in the entire restaurant (both at the same table). Anyone who has worked in the industry can and will tell you that anyone who turns patrons away from the doors in the last minutes of a shift really doesn't belong in the service industry. We were basically told (43 minutes before they closed, before we even sat down) that they would be closing soon, in a way to discourage service. So, we gave the woman (Server? Owner?) working there what she wanted. A restaurant can have the greatest food in the world, but if they lack basic customer service, they are doomed. read more

On the hunt for another amazing breakfast/brunch spot nearish home we ventured off to Long Island Cafe after seeing the great Yelp reviews. We've had some good luck finding some awesome diner style spots in the Davie/Plantation/Sunrise area...and had LIC on our list for a while. It's located in a large shopping center with plenty of parking. Walking in the first thing I noticed was a huge bucket catching all of the water from a leak. Ok....that could happen, not a big deal. Then we just kinda stood there....I felt like every single table in the tiny place was looking at us.....but we just stood there...not sure if we sat ourselves, or someone would greet us. Finally someone came over, wiped down a booth and we took a seat. I went with the breakfast sandwich - sausage egg and cheese and I added an order of bacon. Unfortunately, the bacon wasn't crispy at all. At this point it had taken us a super long to get our food, so I just stuffed it in the sandwich and ate it. You could tell this wasn't super high quality bacon - and the same goes for the sausage. The bread (kaiser roll) was great, but realistically I could of made this sandwich at home - with better quality ingredients for about the same price. I will say that the side of home fries were solid. It wasn't scorching inside, but it sure was hot. At one point my wife said to me "I know why you aren't drinking your coffee - you're sweating!" I felt like there was no ac - just fans, circulating the hot air. The server was nice - she came around and filled our coffee cups and was super personable! Overall this place was outdated - and the food left us disappointed. We had all intentions of ordering french toast for dessert before we arrived, but after the super long wait - and disappointing food, we decided to skip it. read more

I've often driven past the plaza this establishment is located in. I would always crack jokes and ask my best friends from L.I about "Lawn Guyland" specialties, even they thought that the name was silly. The plaza isn't really a happening place. The menu has a variety of Breakfast and Lunch entrees. I was missing Philly, so I decided to get the Philly Omelette. I felt like I was setting them up for failure because I'm really picky about anything Philly or Italian related. Much to my surprise, it was delicious and I'm not even a breakfast person. I was a bit embarrassed because I was all by myself and devoured my plate. The Omelette was huge and there was a nice portion of home fries on my plate. A couple of people were also eating while I was there and everything on their tables looked great. I also noticed that the phone rang nonstop. People ordered Take Out and would come by to pick up. This is truly a happening place..who would have thought? Last week, I called in an order for the Greek Omelette for Take Out. I didn't want to look like a lonely loser who scarfed down their food again. So far, the Greek is my favorite. The veggies were so fresh and I love the Feta that they used. I'm not done yet...... I went in a few days ago and tried their Neo. It's Nova w/ scrambled eggs and it's delicious! I'm surprised I've been here 3 times in a week and a half. So after an intense workout, I needed a serious breakfast and I didn't want to cook so I consulted Yelp to see what was near and what had good reviews. Long Island Cafe had great reviews and when I read another reviewer say that they had a great Greek omelet, I headed there immediately. The place is quaint but clean and busy. I waited just a few minutes for a table. They had 3 young boys helping with drinks, bussing, etc. I was impressed - it's important to teach responsibility young and the restaurant industry is a great way to go about it. I ordered the Greek omelet which comes with home fries and toast. I also had a coffee, which was refilled. The omelet was HUGE and tasty. Unfortunately, they ran out of whole wheat toast so I skipped bread all together. The waitress and kids checked on me several times but not in an annoying way. They get pretty packed on weekends for brunch, but I managed to snag a table. We just had to wait a few minutes for it to be cleaned, no biggie. The problem was I don't think the kitchen can accomodate such a big crowd, because it took a really long time to get our omelette and eggs. I would have liked it if they gave the bagels before the meal instead of with it, so at least you have something to munch on while you wait. The omelettes here are HUGE and delicious. The meatlovers omelette has bacon, sausage, pepperoni, ham, literally every meat they can think of. I would highly recommend it. The home fries were disappointing. They were not crispy and had zero flavor even though it is cooked with onions. Service was extremely friendly despite being busy. The real deal. My cousin and I, who both grew up on Long Island (Smithtown and Bellport respectively), had to check this place out. We were NOT disappointed. He got a bacon, egg, and cheese on a kaiser roll (the roll is key) and was instantly brought back to his childhood. This lovely cafe is tucked into a strip mall, it is small, houses about 12 booths and 4 tables. It is run by a family from, you guess it, Long Island. There was a sign out front that listed the specials for the day. We came at 11:30 AM on a Saturday and waited about 15-20 minutes for our table. We were seated promptly and coffeed and milked we ordered came quickly, as did our meals. The omelettes were fresh and huge! They weren't bland at all. Bursting with flavor from the fresh ingredients and herbs. I ordered the french toast, which were amazing. I love french toast where you can see the egg batter on the bread. They were egg battered and cinnamon swirly! Great little mom and pop shop! Great food, great service, and a cheap price tag to boot. Horrible experience - fruit flies in the syrup - lady running the place said there are fruit flies in a lot of restaurants she was upset that I brought in a drink with me - she said there is a sign on the door - but we ordered drinks and food for 5 people she felt the need after we ordered to come and say something to us. Food was not good quality and the grill was dirty eggs come out gray colored. this place needs to be looked at by the health dept. Looks like a family owned restaurant you know on the nice location great staff oh my gosh it was so good. We walked in and it was slightly packed for an early morning, which is a good sign because it meant that they have great food. When we walked in the waitress was kind enough to give us a nice table to fit all eight of us. What was more impressive was that there was family seated on the bigger table they give up their tables so that we could sit all of us; and that was nice to see. Good people...do exist. We didn't have to ask what didnt have to convince them, they saw our party and they just volunteered to give up their table, we was so touched. So we went right ahead and ordered breakfast. We were there at lunch time, and there was a nice crowd. Not too busy for the one person running the front of the house though, but nice to see they were doing a nice amount of business. The menu was pretty typical breakfast/lunch fare, and pretty typical prices. I kept my order simple, over easy eggs with bacon and sausage. Bacon could have been crisper, but overall a nice meal. Their listing of different omelettes was creative and interesting looking, but I just was not that hungry. The portions are huge and I always have plenty to take home. My favorite is the Sunrise omelette filled with ham, cheese, tons of spinach, creamy ricotta and onions . I love this place! My family and I went here for Sunday breakfast last weekend. It's a small "mom and pop" type of restaurant. All the employees kept their masks on and parties were spaced out from each other. We were greeted by a waitress that was very patient (we didn't know what we want and i had a pretty active toddler with me). I ended up getting the 1-1-1 (French toast, egg and sausage). Don't rush it when you finally do. Lot's of parking. Daily specials and an expansive breakfast menu will make you want to come back. Home fries are solid too. Banana walnut pancakes: 2 huge pancakes with generous amounts of nuts and bananas. For ~$6.5, it's a steal. Good competition for Ally's which is nearby. I used to love this place but haven't been here since before the pandemic. Looked like they were doing quite a bit of take out business as there were only 4 tables filled (including ours) yet service wasn't very attentive with 4 employees running around like they were crazy busy. Was ignored until we finally asked for menus. The home fries contained rotten pieces of potatoes and the ketchup was rancid. It was obvious by the worn out label on the ketchup bottle that instead of using fresh, new bottles of ketchup they were being refilled. The rancid ketchup ruined the whole meal. Very disappointed that what used to be a neighborhood gem has deteriorated in both food and service. read more
