Grilled mushrooms

This is as some of the best service I've had in a chain restaurant in a very long time. The food was divine. Everything was cooked to perfection. The music was a little loud given we were there mid day. I ordered the 6oz sirloin medium rare and it was beautiful. I decided to take my salad with and it held up well. The place was clean and well maintained.

Came here from out of town and it was my birthday. The host wished me a happy birthday and the seated us in a booth. 5 minutes went by and a waitress approached our table and asked if we wanted beverages. We noted my birthday again and she said happy birthday and then took our water order and also took our food order. A few minutes later she brought our water and bread loaf with butter and left. My salad and my wife's soup was delivered fairly quickly. The onion soup had some garlic bread crumbs on it and the cheese was not fully melted. Her loaded baked potatoe and my steak was brought out a bit too soon because I was not done with my salad. The steak was done medium rare as requested. Karen our waitress brought the bill and we finally found out her name

Sometimes it's great and other times not so. The steaks are always good, some of the sides not so.

Instead, we opted to come back the next day for lunch. Our waitress, Danielle, was friendly and made a great old fashioned for my dad. The dining room was busy for lunch but comfortable. I found Chestnut on Yelp and decided to wander in. The space has this elevated modern rustic vibe with a southern twist and a little bit of sass. They even sell shirts that say neither hoity nor toity, which cracked me up. Honestly, the atmosphere was great, but our waitress was the real star. She was absolutely phenomenal and looked after us perfectly. My palate was pretty fried, so I started with a Bloody Mary to wake up. Truth be told, it was just okay. The house mix had an odd flavor that nobody at the table could quite identify, and it seriously lacked spice. It was just kinda bland. I noticed a bottle of Firewalker hot sauce on the table, and splashing that in helped a little bit. After that, I transitioned to a mimosa. You really cannot mess up a mimosa too much, and it was a solid, reliable second drink. For the main event, I ordered the southern chicken and waffles. This came with a fried chicken breast sitting on golden malted waffles, smothered in sausage gravy, and drizzled with chipotle honey. It was a really great dish. The kitchen did a solid job with the fry on the chicken, and the gravy had a nice flavor. It leaned a little on the sweet side because of the honey, but it was not totally overdone. The real sleeper hit of the morning, though, was the side of cheesy grits. Those grits were absolute heaven. They were incredibly creamy and perfectly seasoned. If you go, you have to order them. Chestnut is in a great location, and despite the weak Bloody Mary, it was a stellar visit.

I'm here for my eldest son's birthday and of course our first dinner here, with his wonderful group of friends would of course be at The Admiral Restaurant; most likely the best restaurant in town. I've been to The Admiral several times before, so I'm making this review an updated version of just how good a place can still hold its reputation. For a restaurant so damn good, there is nothing fancy about it. It's set up like a small town diner; and that's what makes it so much comfortable. The service is spot on and their menu has so many wonderful choices at not "break the bank" prices. Us six diners ordered: * Caesar salad - for a southern restaurant making a Caesar this good, it was enchanting! It had Croutons, Parmesan and Anchovy * Ribeye Steak - see above accolade! With tallow confit potatoes, glazed carrots, chimichurri, goat cheese * Cheeseburger with fries - a mile high beauty with Cheddar, Dijonnaise, B&B Pickles, grilled Onion, and fries - was enchanting * Beef Tartare - with chile aioli, mustard seed, chive, ramp, black garlic, egg yolk * Smoked Trout Mantecato had black pepper-parmesan toast, Furikake, yuzu tobik * Airliner Chicken Breast with crispy red rice, tomatoes, romano beans, herb Every dish above was excellent. For a restaurant to be this consistent (after ten years for me) states just how dedicated this restaurant is for impeccability.

I started the meal with a Lions Mane mushroom broth and small bread service. The Lions mane mushroom broth had a mellow earthy flavor that paired well with the warm fresh sourdough bread. This meal was not only memorable because of the flavors and presentation but also because of the outstanding staff that made my visit feel wanted and warm! My fiancé took me here for my birthday, and I felt celebrated every step of the way. Our server Laura brought us a complimentary small bite before the meal and after dessert. She also made dessert super special and was kind and attentive the whole meal! The food was all phenomenal, I couldn't believe it was all gluten free. It felt very fresh due to the farm to table nature of the restaraunt. We started with the cheddar biscuits, which were a hit. My short rib with polenta and roast veggies was delectable and a very generous portion! Finally, we ordered 1 dessert but they brought us a trio. I was wowed by the cheesecake and olive oil cake! Would definitely return for date night or any other special occasion!

I was in communication with Lindsay for over four months while exploring options for hosting my wedding dinner in their private dining space. Out of more than 10 venues and vendors we considered, she was the only one who consistently showed up with prompt, thoughtful, and genuinely kind communication. Every question I had--no matter how detailed or repetitive--was answered with patience and care. She made herself available through all my moments of uncertainty, which, as any out-of-state bride can attest, is invaluable. When we finally visited in person, Lindsay went above and beyond by accommodating us outside of regular scheduling. Her attentiveness and warmth never wavered. Planning a wedding from afar can feel overwhelming, but having someone like her in your corner brings a level of reassurance that cannot be overstated. Dinner itself was nothing short of exceptional. We were served by Tennille, who elevated the entire experience. She was engaging, knowledgeable, and incredibly personable. Every dish was presented with intention, and she took the time to walk us through ingredients , local farm sourced education and preparation in a way that made the meal feel curated and special. You can tell she genuinely cares about the guest experience--it shows in every interaction. After dinner, we visited their second location to explore their private dining options. There, we met Pierre, who matched the same level of service and hospitality. He went out of his way to not only show us the space, but also recommend local after-dinner spots that could enhance the overall experience for our bridal party. That level of thoughtfulness and big-picture thinking is rare. Bottom line: this team understands that they're not just serving food--they're creating experiences. If you're looking for a venue that delivers on service, communication, and unforgettable dining, this is it.

Google calls it "American" cuisine, which is basically the one cuisine I don't do, but this place does offer some nice vegetarian options. Wanting to save some room for my food tour, I got a salad with a veggie skewer on top, but I did indulge in some lentil fritters. Fried bean paste is always a winner (technically lentils are not beans). The fritters were savory and the clash between their freshly fried texture and the cool dill-flavored dipping sauce and mixed pickled vegetables was quite robust. My salad delivered the promised crunch, and the shiitake shishito kabob had a wide variety of freshly barbecued vegetables, but unlike my appetizer this dish was missing an extra flavor touch. The drink and dessert selection looked good, but I like to spread myself around. I would definitely want to come back and eat outside on a warmer day.

HONEST FEEDBACK. The…read moreonly thing that took away from the experience was that it was my wife's birthday, which I had included in the reservation, and there wasn't any acknowledgment of it. I asked the hostess about it, and they said they could add a candle to a dessert if we purchased one. I was a little surprised by that, especially considering we were spending around $200 on the meal. Even just a simple birthday greeting from the staff would have been a nice touch and made the experience feel more special. One other note: the Filet Mignon itself does not come with any real sides, just a small microgreen garnish. At this price point, I would expect at least something simple included, like vegetables or a small accompaniment. We've been to other higher-end restaurants where the steak comes with something like carrots or seasonal vegetables, which helps make the plate feel more complete. Having just the steak on a large empty plate made the meal feel a little underwhelming for the price. I'm not trying to compare restaurants, but we've been to other upscale places where they add small touches like a complimentary dessert, a personalized menu saying "Happy Birthday" or "Happy Anniversary," or even a small celebration moment with a sparkler. Those little details really elevate the experience and make guests feel appreciated. The food was amazing, and the service was quick. We ordered two Filet Mignons, the Gnocchi, Confit Potatoes, and a Coke. Everything we had was delicious. Her personality, attention to detail, and genuine care for our table stood out immediately. She was engaging, thoughtful, and clearly takes pride in making sure every guest has an amazing experience. Service like that elevates a great meal into a memorable one. Michael, the manager, was equally impressive. I watched him throughout the night--expediting, hustling, and constantly moving to keep the team running at peak efficiency. You can tell when leadership truly cares about the experience in the room, and he absolutely sets the tone for excellence. We later learned the head chef was out on maternity leave, which honestly shocked us because the sous chef was in absolute beast mode. Plate after plate came out flawless. The consistency, quality, and presentation were top-tier--you would never know anything was missing from the kitchen leadership. Now the food... simply incredible. We tried all of the sides, and every single one felt like a masterpiece of its own. Each dish had a genius mix of flavors and the same "wow factor" you'd expect from a main course. Nothing felt like an afterthought. I think my favorites were the beets and sweet potato tots. Who knew those vegetables could be lifted into a literal stand alone experience. I ordered the Ribeye, medium rare, and it was cooked perfectly. The flavor, temperature, and seasoning were of the highest caliber--easily one of the best steaks I've ever had, and I've eaten all over the world. For appetizers we went with the Curry Mussels and Bone Marrow. They were beyond belief. Every plate held its own level of excellence. The food: Amazing. The atmosphere: Amazing. The team: On a whole other level of amazing. We were celebrating a business success, and the team at Asheville Proper made it feel like we were truly winning. Highly recommend. I literally believe these guys just gave me one of the top two meals I have ever had! Keep it up, team!
