Took a drive here to meet up with family for a birthday dinner. About 30 minutes away but overall I am glad I did. The food here was decent and the atmosphere was great. I really liked the interior and the lighting. The ambiance was pleasant, the decor was right on point for what the establishment was going for. I ordered the marinated steak tips with onions and mushrooms. Had a sweet baked potato and broccoli on the side. Also added a lobster tail as an extra side. Out of the ten orders we had, the waitress made mistakes on three of them. One person did not get their side of mac and cheese, one person didnt get their side of fish and I did not get my side of lobster tail. This is part of the reason I took a star away. The prices were on higher end. That coupled with the mistakes with the orders and the broccoli on my plate that tasted really sour for some odd reason, I took off 1 star. But the service was decent, not as attentive as I would have liked but they were busy so I dont fault that. The parking is great and the atmosphere was fantastic. I don't really think of Longhorn as a top-notch steakhouse on the level of Abe and Louie's, Bancroft or Capital Grille. But then again they're not charging $59 for a steak, So I go to Longhorn for a pretty good steak at a reasonable (about $30) price, Generally speaking, the steak has been good enough in the past. But in the world of steak I guess you get what you pay for. We ordered takeout recently and I got the Outlaw ribeye. It was cooked medium rare the way I ordered it. But I noticed right away that it really wasn't very flavorful. I had to keep putting salt on it and that didn't do much. Then I used steak sauce on it which I NEVER do. (I make my own steaks at home and all you need is salt and pepper, cook it in a cast iron pan and baste it in butter.) Lastly, it wouldn't cut easily. Too tough. I was literally hacking at it with my knife. It's so unsatisfying to eat something and not get that flavor out of it you expect. Frankly, at that price, if there was an Outback nearby I'd go there. Not great but better. But lesson learned - save up and go to the better steakhouses. They are using a better grade of meat and I bet Longhorn cannot deny that. read more

I hate to write such a bad review since we love longhorns but this location has to be the worst ever! This is two times now they completely mess up our to go orders. They always forget at least 2-3 items from your order. They forgot all of our toppings of our potato so we went back and they bring it back out and it includes sour cream which clearly stated on the ticket no sour cream. The food always is cold also which is really weird since we never have this issue with the other locations. My husband and I go to Longhorns in Reading MA frequently and almost always sit at the bar and order dinner and drinks. This last visit a week ago, we sat at the bar and saw that there was a lot of food debris (crumbs and crud) from the previous bar customers earlier in the evening or during the day who clearly had dinner at the bar prior to our arrival. So this disgusting residue was in the rim area in the back of the bar itself in plain site and within two feet of where we sat. Why is there a mess there and in view of newly arrived customers? Before we placed our order, we asked the bartender to clean the rim area but she did only a cursory cleaning leaving a lot of crumbs and crud left. She seemed completely indifferent to doing a great job. No pride in her work apparently. We were grossed out having to see this remaining mess. It is appalling that the manager didn't notice this and order that the mess be cleaned up and the bar maintained in pristine condition. Shame on the manager and shame on the bartender whose indifference and disconnect with maintaining a quality bar is almost non existent. I went to this Longhorn location for lunch on a recent Wednesday afternoon. The restaurant was half full and there was no other party waiting to be seated except for my party of two. We arrived at 1:19 PM and waited patiently for 12 minutes before motioning to an emplyee who was bussing tables. I asked is there anyone who can seat us? He said that he is that person and he is busy right now bussing tables. I mentioned that we are on our lunch hour and we've already spent a quarter of it waiting to be seated. Mind you - we were the only people waiting. He apparently did not like this comment and replied - now you can wait 5 more minutes. I made a quick search of the manager and told him the exact conversation and he appologized but basically said - what do you want me to do? He obviously cared about as much as the person seating guests. I have been coming here for years and the service has steadily declined to the point where I cannot justify paying money to a business that honestly could not care less if I patronized them. The Horn was a very nice time last night as I returned from a Horn hiatus. GF and I were initially seated next to a family with toddlers (Cabbage Patch/Garbage Pail Kids) and I requested a quiet booth instead. The hostess reseated us and said it may be 10 minutes before the waiter showed since this section was not staffed right then. But to our surprise, a dude showed up immediately to be our waiter. Mike was very attentive, relaxed, and polite. I have not had that good of a waiter at even much more expensive places. He checked up on us a few times throughout the meal and cleared the table of used dishes and even removed detritus during the meal. I got the Steak and Lobster and GF got the Breaded Chicken Salad. Both meals were very good. The salad was mega and fresh (no reject white lettuce) and it was well plated. My steak (filet mignon) was great and it was rare just as I requested. The lobster was good and was a beefy-size tail. We also got the Tonions which were "scrump" and hot. My only beef was "the usual" -fries were not hot at all, room temp to be exact . My family and I decided to give Longhorn Steakhouse in Reading one more shot. We've had bad service, under/over-cooked food and a variety of other unpleasant experiences in the past few years. Actually my wife and I don't even come anymore but my grandmother enjoys the food so we are more than happy to deal with this place for her sake. But after tonight we are through. It actually started out well. We called ahead for a table of seven and they had it ready for us right on time. We ordered our meals and appetizers and the waitress was quick to bring out our drinks. Knowing the usual incompetence of the place, I ordered a cheeseburger and jokingly said to myself, "well, at least they can't screw that up". Guess what happened? My medium cheeseburger came out with bacon (which I didn't order) and onions on it (which I definitely didn't order). It was also rare (it moo'd). My wife's medium-well filet came out medium rare. My mom's rare steak came out well done and my brothers medium-well filet came out medium rare. It's quite obvious the cooks have zero idea how to cook a steak. As I mentioned before, this is not the first, or second, or even third time this has happened. A steakhouse...that does not understand how to cook...A STEAK!!! We told our waitress and got a quick little I'm sorry and we didn't hear from her again. We called the manager and she asked if we all wanted our meat thrown back on the grill. Seriously??? As far as a chain, Non-Prime steakhouse goes, this place is probably as good as it gets. I like it much better than Outback. We came here on a Saturday night and waited 45 minutes, but that's our fault. It's busy. Parking was super easy and the waiting area was of ample size. We watched some hockey on TV and had a drink while waiting. By comparison, I found Outback to be heavy handed with the salt, at multiple locations I have tried. The steak at Outback was just ok. I do love Outback's cheese fries, but when it comes to the actual meal, I'll take LongHorn anyday. This review is a bit biased- I am a huge Outback fan and I was devastated when the Burlington location closed. So, I am comparing it to my beloved Outback. We went on a Monday evening on the early side for dinner so not many tables were taken. They brought us the complimentary bread (just okay, Outbacks is better!) I got the meal equivalent to what I would get at Outback: boneless ribeye, a vegetable and house salad. It was a good meal, but in every aspect Outback outdid them just a bit! Yet another chain in the long mediocre link of corporate food service. The location is good, as it's close to the highway, but far enough that traffic noise doesn't invade. The entrance is kind of funky, so if you're planning a visit, keep your eyes peeled. The restaurant is decorated in a VERY western motif, but adds to the experience. The staff is friendly and as accommodating as their limited sized dining room will allow. I've seen other complain about wait times, but at prime dinner time (7-9) if you DON'T have to wait for 15-30min, it's probably a dump. Anyhoo.... The staff is quick with the formula of Drinks/Apps/Meal/Sweets and well paced. I've been several times and never been drawn out or slammed. The apps are standard pub style fare but have the benefit of being quick. The steaks are good, but oddly my favorite is the crusted chicken. Juicy and flavorful. My friend and I went into this restaurant last night around 7:30 , we were told it was only a 20 minute wait , after waiting 30 minutes I asked the young guy in the front how many people were in front of us , he than said there were 6 people ahead of us and the wait would be another 35 -40 minutes! I asked him why he told us it was only a 20 min wait than tell us something different , he then said he and the staff tell everyone it is a 20 min wait. I think it is best to be honest with people , I would never wait an hr for food , if the real time was conveyed to me upfront I would have appreciated it and left , however I would come back at another time , now I have no want to come back for my time and my friend's time that was wasted! What an awful experience. For some unknown reason the night we attended we had to wait 30 minutes for a table. Once we got to said table the waitress informed us that she was given an extra table and was very busy. We then waited an extra 15 minutes to even get the order for appetizers in. I would have left but we had already waited 30 minutes. We got the mushrooms and chicken bites. The mushrooms were disgusting and rubbery. They were covered in thick undigestible cheese and cardboard like breadcrumbs. You could clearly taste that the chicken bites were frozen and were clearly an afterthought for their menu. Now on to our $30 steaks. The fillet was was not cut or cooked properly. A fillet should be thicker vertically not horizontally. I was handed a flat steak that was chewy. A fillet mignon should never be chewy. The potato that accompanied it was supposed to be loaded, it was anything from loaded. It tasted like it had been in a heater all day and the starch built up. I also paid for a Parmesan crust which at Longhorn meant just pouring cheese on top of it. So I was left with a salty chewy disgusting cut of meat. My friend steak had a dry crab cake on top of it and the vegetables were overcooked and mushy. The bill came out to $86 and was definitely not worth it. The restaurant was dirty and the floor didn't look like it hadn't been swept all night. The clientele were drunk and loud the whole evening. If you want a good piece of steak go to Ruth's Chris.
