I've read reviews and thought ok this might not be for me knowing already you have to purchase a ticket to enter botanical gardens and then pay for parking , But when it was all said and done i went. I have to tell you I truly enjoyed myself. I ordered the Rueben and it was absolutely incredible. Being from NY i know a good Rueben, they actually had me tempted to order another sandwhich.lol It had had all the flavor and right amount of cheese to capture the taste of a Rueben. My date had the shrimp and grits and i must say that it looked picture perfect. So with that said dinner while over looking the garden was amazing to only go on the tour if the park after even better Lets just say i earned some brownie points . BAD RESTAURANT POLICY. For the most part it was a very pleasant dining experience, except the dressing on my beet salad was salty. Our experience was ruined by Bryce (Assistant Manager) and his arrogance in informing us their policy is to never remove an item from a bill, and if the customer wants something in its place, they will be charged additional for it. He further insisted, upon their "investigation" nothing was wrong with the salad. I've eaten at Longleaf many times and I always enjoy my food but this policy is unacceptable. Why bother asking how my meal was if you already feel it was total perfection. Our waitress on the other hand, was absolutely wonderful. Bryce and the management staff is wrong on this policy. My family has been a member for years and visited recently for the first time this season. However, this year, the menu was without vegetarian options for kids - the waiter suggested bread. When I then asked whether the garden had a seasonal brew available this year, the waiter curtly replied, "if you don't see it on the menu then the answer is no". I ordered the quiche.She said there was one left that had asparagus in it and that's the one I ordered but she brought me the other one which had so much crust on the bottom and the top there was hardly anything on the inside. I had dinner here with friends during a Cocktails in the Garden event. Our waitress was fabulous and knowledgeable. I wish I could remember her name and I would give her a shout out! We had the cheese board and she gave us a run down of the various items. It came with 3 cheeses, nuts, a small loaf of bread, mustard, fig spread and more. My friends had the kale and arugula salads which were both very tasty and they were both happy with their selections. I had eaten so just had the mule and some cheese. One of the very best experiences i have had. Cocktails by Karen were on point and our service by Kaitlyn was superior. Our food was top tier. My son had the pepperoni and sausage flatbread which came out piping hot and delicious. My partner had a Caesar salad that was simple yet perfectly dressed and the 8oz filet with mashed potatoes and broccolini which was full of flavor and perfectly cooked. I enjoyed the mushroom risotto and it was the best risotto I've had to date. The ambiance was beautiful as the Botanical Gardens had their holiday light show going on. The restaurant is clean, well lit and has a warm home feeling. This place is honestly great for a romantic date or even to bring the entire family in my opinion. For where the restaurant is located I was expecting more. The prices don't match the quality in food nor in service. The décor reminded me of a Hilton Garden Inn Breakfast and Commons area. Not enough attention to detail to explain the price in menu options and the D class service. Food: I ordered the Kale Salad to start. I got kale, cheese and a whole lot of raisins. A vegetable Bánh mì which was pretty good however the mushroom stalks were too tough to chew or eat and the only option was to spit them out. Gross, especially on a date. Atmosphere: "Are you checking in or checking out" and the pool is closed. Yea if I didn't know it, I'd seriously think I was in a hotel lobby that just got a new modern renovation. The hostess seemed a bit distracted and it was a little on the disorganized side just trying to get a table in basically an empty restaurant. I have always been a fan of Longleaf being an annual pass holder of the Atlanta Botanical Gardens. We always make a Reservation and have had many a wonderful memorable meal. My husband made a reservation for my birthday dinner with a stroll through the gardens. Tonight was not the usual service or menu. due to COVID they were offering 4 entrees salmon, trout, shrimp and grits or veggie plate. Pretty limited, it's seafood unless you want a sandwich. We arrived on time for our reservation were seated and ignored for 10 min until we ask the hostess if perhaps we could change tables. We then waited another 10 minutes when said hostess stopped to say let me get your drink order. Our server showed up at our table 35 min after we were seated. I am trying to be positive but the menu and the service is so much less than I expected. We are going to have the appetizer soup and rolls that we ordered by giving the hostess. We will then enjoy our stroll through the remainder of the gardens and have my birthday dinner on the way home at another restaurant. I know they're short handed however the tables are half full and the apathy is intolerable. Enjoy the gardens but skip Longleaf until they get it together again. read more

What will the Longlead fun show deliver tonight? Tears or smiles?? I tense up these days when my wife declares "We're going to the Garden and having dinner at Longleaf!" I have no idea what to expect anymore. We loved this place in its prior incarnation as a Linton Hopkins joint! Even for the first 6 months after the name change in 2017, it remained a nice option for Garden members. Restaurant management always recognized us as repeat quests and ensured that we were looked after. But the for the past 12 months, my family and I have become more discouraged with the slowly disintegrating service cesspool Longleaf has become! Food is decent, but with uneven execution. I would overlook that and the slight price premium if the service was worth a damn. It is not! This past Thursday night for example.....very obvious lack of "teaming" among the crew. Little things....like, if you walk past my table with a water pitcher and notice 4 empty water glasses, then fill them up! If you are re-setting a table right next to mine, you should probably notice that I'm trying to wave you down because my food came out incorrectly. And lastly....don't make me have to get up and roam around the dining room to chase you (or the Mgr) because you forgot to fire my kid's order and you haven't checked on my table in the first ten minutes since main course arrived. Longleaf is a restaurant within the Atlanta Botanical Gardens. The interior and the ambiance was very nice but there was a lot of problems with our experience to ever want to go back. It looked very empty when My family and I walked in, but the four of us had to wait 20 minutes for a seat because the host claimed there was not enough servers. Since, we were very hungry from walking around the garden, we looked at the menu while waiting for a seat. When we were seated, we had a very nice server who apologized for the wait. We said that was fine and told her we were ready to order. Almost everything we picked was either not ready or they no longer have. Why was it not marked on the menu? We ended up getting whatever was available. The food was presented beautifully, but that was pretty much it. For what it cost, it was not very tasty and portions quite small. Delicious food but way over priced. We arrived about 1:15pm. The restaurant was somewhat crowded but no wait time required. We ordered an asparagus salad with shrimps ($20) and a catfish poor boy with half fries, half salad ($14). As you will see in the photos the salad was on a salad plate- a surprise as it was supposed to be a meal. It was hard to believe that this portion size was meant to fill an empty stomach. It was very good tasting, however, so other than my partner eating part of my sandwich - all was well. I had the catfish poor boy with remoulade sauce and cabbage on top. Unlike the one pictured earlier which appeared huge the chef must have used a pre-natal fish as it barely filled the bun. Further, it was overlooked hence, a bit dry. I won't say it was bad - it just left a bit to be desired. The fries were lovely. They were skinny and made with fresh potatoes which make a huge difference to flavor and crispness. The salad was nice too, however, minute is a good description of quantity. Two forks full and bye bye. Would I go back yes. Was the service good yes. Was the kitchen slow, yes. We were seated immediately on a warm and busy Saturday, and service was prompt. Every item they brought out was plated beautifully. The sandwich we had was plated beautifully, but not easy to dip in the accompanying au jus because it was all over the plate. Eating a sandwich with a form seemed a little much. We also had the charcuterie plate, and while it was beautiful, there were at least two items on the plate that tasted so strongly negative we left them entirely. The strawberry shortcake was beautiful, and advertised use of Georgia strawberries. When we took the first bite, you could taste what seemed like buttermilk biscuits and freeze dried strawberries. There were a few strawberry preserves or softer strawberries, but the saving grace of this dish was the cream. We paid a good deal for what we ordered here, so I don't think the price equates to the quality. You are paying for the location, I'm sure. Maybe check out the fast cafe attached? read more

Had a wonderful dinner here on a Friday night with temps in the 70s, low humidity; a perfect evening to sit outside with a view of the tree canopy. It felt like we were sitting up in the trees. The inside opens to the outdoor patio with large sliding glass doors. The menu is not very large but it had a good selection of fresh and light salads and entrees for fair prices. The craft cocktails were amazing and well blended. We shared the Artisan Charcuterie Plate, English pea hummus served on Endive lettuce, & the Grass Fed Beef Burger with fries. Not one bite was left! Price: $80 (3 cocktails, 2 apps, 1 entree, tip). We will enjoy eating her every time we plan to attend the Bot Garden or an event in Piedmont Park. read more

We visit the botanical gardens every year at the holiday season to see the lights and always enjoy a "fancy" dinner with our little girls at longleaf. I noticed online that reservations are now a "perk" of garden membership (this is the first year we are not members).. we walked in early (before 6pm) and the restaurant was close to empty. We were turned down for seating since we didn't have reservations but were told we couldn't make reservations unless it was after 8pm. We were told we could order from the grab n go counter (and eat outside) so had an overwhelming option of chicken fingers and fries or corn dog for the kids and cold sandwich options for ourselves. Really disappointing to spend this much on a holiday excursion and to be unable to enjoy a seated dinner at a restaurant with plenty of available seating due to no longer being members.. read more

My wife and I thought we would reserve a nice lunch at the beautiful botanical gardens. We had a reservation and had requested outdoor seating. When we arrived the hostess was nowhere to be seen. A crowd of 10-15 people had gathered trying to get in without reservations. After 10 minutes a hostess finally showed up and we made our way around the crowd to let her know we had reservations. We were immediately told that the outside seating was full. Well, okay. We said an inside table was fine. We were hungry. We were seated at a table with not even a view of the gardens surrounded by families with young children. Well, okay. Not what we expected or preferred, but we sat down after some hesitation. After 15 minutes of watching waiters come and go, other tables getting water and a manager like person checking on other tables, we had nothing. No water, no waiter, no eye contact. Also, the inside is noisy. I finally got and asked an employee if there was a waiter for our area. After looking at me in a bewildered way, like I had appeared out of thin area, he replied "uh, yes?", as if I was supposed to be the waiter. WE LEFT. I believe we came to Longleaf many years ago before it got renovated. Too bad I didn't put up a review then. Now with its new face lift, this restaurant is a chic new eatery within the botanical gardens. If you're a member, this is a fun place to pop into even if you don't have time to actually walk through the botanical garden. After entering the garden area, you head up to the second floor of the main lobby for a quick path to the restaurant. By noon even on weekdays, there will be a wait. If you can't wait and want to grab something right away, there is a snack bar around the back of the restaurant. If you are able to wait 10-15 min for your table, put your name down and they will text you while you walk around to see the plants. Once you get a table, you're quickly sat down and I found the service to be quick and efficient! This was despite the fact that they seemed understaffed but our waitress took that in stride and provided excellent service. Today we started off with an appetizer of tempura fried stuffed squash blossoms on a bed of squash. Excellent! This is definitely a dish that you would find at a fancier restaurant and pay much more for. It's a great dish that comes with 3 blossoms in total. We both got burgers today with an egg on top. Surprisingly delicious although when we asked for medium rare, it was closer to rare. No harm done, still tasted great. Wish we had room for dessert as well because they had some fun selections. They had other meetings and parties going on as well so I assume you can reserve the space if you have a work function. All in all a fun little place... not for all the time but occasionally it's nice to just walk into the garden and have a nice place to eat! read more

Every year at Christmas, we go to the Botanical Gardens for the innovative, beautiful and amazing lights and decorations. If only Longleaf was fractionally as good. Last year we had a reservation for 6.30p and were finally seated around 7.30p. Their excuse was they had a private party, they were too busy to seat and serve their reservations, reservations they took without any mention of a potential problem and required we confirm the day before. THIS year, pretty much same story. Reservation at 6.30, but told we would likely not be seated until after 7. The excuse had changed, but same results. This year the pathetic lie was that traffic was bad and those with earlier reservations had to be seated before us; they held reservations for some people for an hour or more. Earth to Longleaf, traffic is always bad in Atlanta, on a weekday, between 5 and 7 and has been for what, 50 years or more??? Grown adults know when to leave in time to make a committed appointment, adults know how to check traffic via GPS, adults don't expect their reservations to be held any longer than 15 minutes, a standard in the restaurant world. Apparently how you get seated here is make a reservation for 4.30, waltz in at 6.30 and tell those with 6.30 reservations to get over it. It's certainly Longleaf's policy. Well, fool me once... you know the line, our last time EVER trying to eat at Longleaf (this has actually happened more than twice, these people are beyond incompetent). read more

Having reservations, we were seated on once and promply served water. Orders placed and filled as ordered. No porblem with service. BUT: They only serve canned beer. Canned beer!! This is supposed to be an upscale dining facility. I understand cans being used in the gardens but never here. Had the beer not been opened, I would have rejected it. Blue Moon in a can doesn't taste anything like a glass bottle or tap. Very disappointed in the beverage. I left most of it. My burger was very good, cooked to perfection. I was visiting the Atlanta Botanical Garden with a friend, we got hungry so we have decided to have lunch at Longleaf, I was surprised to see that the vegetable plate was $19 and the most expensive thing on the menu, and grilled chicken breast was $18... I ordered the cheese burger for $13, the waiter insisted I should get cooked "medium", I also asked for no pickles, my friend wanted chicken sandwich but no chicken sandwich, it was either chicken salad sandwich or the $18 Griddled Chicken Breast, so she ordered Baby carrots & Glazed Turnips and baby broccoli instead. Well my burger was tiny, I remember the old tv commercial, where's the beef, hahaha it was tiny it was the size of my lens cap, no more than 3" diameter at 1/4" thick with cheese, and the burger was cooked beyond well done, what ever happened to my "Medium" cooked burger? the burger was was very much over salted, and it came with pickles, I've asked for no pickles but I got pieces of pickles on the burger and wedge of pickle on the side with over salted french fries, can't eat that much salt on a tiny shoe string fries. ... not the $13 burger I expected. The Baby carrots & Glazed Turnips and baby broccoli was drenched in oil, why do you need to cook in so much oil, and again everything was completely over salted. Not a fine dining experience, it was just over priced bad food in nice looking restaurant. I'll probably have to bring my own food next time I visit the garden. Unless I've missed my guess, Longleaf enjoys a special contract with the Botanical Gardens, such that it is the only restaurant allowed on premises. If true, it explains why this and many other reviews are so very bad: they have no competition, and therefore no incentive to strive. Why else would they employ a restaurant manager who acted like he was straight out of Denny's, a so-called "chef" who cooked like he was straight out of that very same Denny's, and a hostess whose demeanor was straight out of Compton? My wife and I arrived and, possibly because we are an interracial couple, were seated in the worst seat in the house -- close to the door on a freezing winter night -- when only about 20% of the tables were filled. I told them we would sit elsewhere and chose a table deeper into the restaurant. Earlier that night we had strolled by the restaurant and read over the dinner menu, which they displayed in a standing frame outside. It was an amateurish selection that looked like a line cook trying to live outside his depth. The only safe thing on the menu that sounded palatable to me was the hamburger, which means their menu failed completely. Now you might think me an amateur myself for choosing the hamburger, but truth be told I had been an Officier of the Chaîne des Rôtisseurs and the Société Mondiale du Vin, I have been studying food science for almost thirty years, and have been cooking with expertise for over forty years, so fine cuisine is an important topic in our home. Unfortunately, the hamburger sounded like the only thing on the menu that wasn't an amateurish stunt. When we were seated inside we were given a completely different menu -- this one without the hamburger. Nothing else sounded palatable at all, and was typical amateur fare like salmon, a vegetable plate, etc. My wife ordered the vegetable plate. The closest thing I could even think of eating was their appetizer of turkey chili (really?), which the waitress claimed was housemade and not from cans. First bite... a second bite to verify... I sleuthed that what the chef had done was to brown-off some ground turkey with a little cumin and a little chili powder, then dump in a can of diced tomatoes (my guess was Del Monte brand), a can of white beans, and the like, then stirred it all together and proclaimed "Voila! Housemade!" Why did I think that? First, the tomatoes were treated with Calcium Chloride, which stiffens the cell walls of the tomatoes and enables them to maintain form even when canned for years and later cooked. It also lends a salt-like yet distinct flavor which food scientists can easily discern in food. They were also treated with Citric Acid to increase tartness -- again, something food scientists can easily discern. It is scientifically impossible for any varietal of fresh tomato to have such flavor and texture. I challenged the waitress again about it being housemade from scratch and she again assured me it was. I held up an intact chunk of canned tomato and asked her, "Even this?" She again said yes. She had no idea. Same thing with the beans, which from experience I could tell were cooked commercially on a large scale; this is how each bean maintains an unbroken skin that remains perfectly glossy after cooking and the bean is perfectly creamy. I pointed them out, too, and got the same response. Pathetic. My wife's vegetable plate arrived and it was another wannabe attempt at something the cook must have seen once in a picture from a real restaurant. She didn't want to eat it, but she fired down a couple of bites. We asked for the check so we could just get out of there, but they sure made us pay for challenging their falsehoods about the food. Ten minutes after we asked for the check it still wasn't there, so I went up front and talked with the hostess. "You know how restaurants make customers they don't like pay for it by making them wait for the check?" "Uh-huh," she said. I was shocked that she admitted it, so maybe she didn't understand me. "I mean, when you're just trying to make them pay for something they said or didn't like, you make them wait ten, maybe twenty minutes for the check?" "Yes," she said, smiling at me. It was her chance to passively-aggressively get back at the socio-economic demographic she seemed to resent. I took my complaint to the so-called "manager," who looked more like the weakest bouncer in the lowest dive bar in south Florida, and also handed him a list of the EIGHT spelling mistakes on the menu. I started explaining the problems they had caused and it all must have gotten too much for him, because he just told an associate to comp us (the four bites of food we actually fired down) and then held the door, smirking, for us to leave. One star for the falsehoods, the ignorance, the incompetence, the smirking attitudes, the unimaginative amateur-hour menu with no fewer than eight misspellings across three languages, and the complete lack of any motivation whatsoever. read more

The host asked if we had reservations and we said we did not. He left and then came back and told us we were in luck despite the restaurant being mostly empty. He brought our two glasses of wine and we placed our orders. 30 minutes later, our glasses were getting low and still no food. Then, the table next to us that had only arrived 10-15 minutes ago received their food. We waited about 5 more minutes and then decided to leave. My husband went in and found our server to ask for our check. He explained that we had been waiting more than half an hour for our food and that we would like the check for our wine. The server asked, "Was I your server?" He didn't even remember that he was assigned to our table. Was there celebrating a birthday and was there in the summer. Now I like this place. Location and Ambiance The food is fresh delicious gourmet and high quality....but I only (thankfully) ordered from the kids menu (I was with my kid). There were not many options but one vegetable plate but I stopped at the purée sweet potatoes. A grilled medley ok but puréed? What am I a baby? I noticed that a lot when dining out and being a vegetarian for 20 years. We like flavor We like texture We just don't eat meat! Please try and incorporate one or more vegetarian dish that's not some bean butternut soup or just a salad option...which might be good but come on I'm hungry too and I eat like a horse not a rabbit.
