OMG - this place is a gem!! So glad we happened to find it on our vacation - they had fun named dishes, fun decor, and prices were decent. The sandwiches were different than anywhere else we'd gone, it's NOT a Subway or basic deli - the chicken sandwiches had actual chicken breasts, not lunch meat. The Rueben Dip was the best one my husband had ever had. Service was great, everyone was genuinely friendly, didn't make you feel like a burden. Was looking for a new place to eat in Willits before heading back to Fort Bragg and came across the Loose Caboose Cafe on Yelp. It isn't very often that you walk into a small establishment and feel welcome at once. Our server immediately brought menus and got our drink order. While my Mother ordered the Santa Fe sandwich and I the French Dip sammich our server stated that they both were delicious and served with pepperoni I and pickle spear (no fries or chips). In a very short amount of time our sandwiches arrived, after the first bite we looked at each other and smiled as best we could with a mouthful of deliciousness!!! I have the most tender beef ever in French Dip and the au jus just topped it off perfectly. My Mother sitting next to me throughly enjoying her sammich as well. Wow. After all the great reviews we decided on Loose Caboose for a quick lunch as we were traveling through. It was terrible. Their vegetable and rice soup was hot, yes (always good on a cold rainy day), but had zero flavor. I mean none. Think cabbage, carrots and zucchini in warm water. Also pretty sure it was instant rice. Got the southwest chicken salad, which also had no flavor. Dressing had a little but not much. My meal was bland with a capital B. My husband got the French dip, which he said was decent, maybe a 6 out of 10. Idk, maybe they're known for their hot dogs? Wait staff was super nice-- the two stars are for them. I was really hoping to like this local spot but what I ordered was so-so and expensive. Perhaps people don't come for the salad. I got the Southwest style salad which sounded good but disappointed. Apart from the "spicy ranch " dressing there wasn't anything southwest about it. Corn or tortilla strips would have been a nice addition. Definitely not worth $17. There seemed to be a lot of waste- paper plates, styrofoam cups- perhaps their dishwasher was broken?? The interior ambiance was cute and the waitress was nice. Food came quickly. read more

My husband got the chicken pesto and it was delicious. My daughter got the BLT, happy girl. My other daughter got a plain hot dog, seemed good quality with yummy bread! When my husband said something one waitress said "oh only so many sandwiches fit in the toaster. And when we get busy it gets like this." Seems kinda inefficient, the menu says "since 1998"....so I think it's time for a second toaster. Lol. We were here for lunch in a Thursday too, so not like it was a weekend or anything. OMG- We were going to Fort Bragg and hungry, so I looked up places to eat in Willits and I was lucky enough to find this AMAZING little gem!!! I got the french dip and my BF got a Turkey sandwich. I got a little side of the pesto mayo, and the garlic mayo on my sandwich. SOOOOOOOo yummy! I was almost sad when I was done :) We got a chai milkshake to go. Also so Fing good! Yelped my way to this slightly of the beaten path gem. What a great find! At first sight the Loose Caboose Cafe looked like something out of old Hawaii, with a laid back funky vibe. Stepping in, I was delighted by the personality and "flavor" of the inside/outside dining area. Stepping into the main area of the restaurant we were greeted by friendly staff. I appreciated the Seabiscuit wall.. The food was delicious. I had the Rubin dip, which, as promised, was the best I have ever had! My wife had the club car sandwich she did not care for because she didn't realize the sandwich was going to be served hot. She is a super picky eater so I will assume that it was probably good but I willnever know. She likes her shit the way she likes it no if ands or buts. she is a total non foodie! So my husband stopped by to pick up a to go order and was in line, not a problem, but both women in front of him could not get the ATM to work- so both women had to leave to find a functional ATM. With no one else there the girl behind the counter told him, when he asked what they were wanting for now, told him he had to wait for the other women to come back... What?!? The food was just sitting there in the bag and he had cash!! This employee was just standing there! I used to eat there weekly and no longer after that clear display of disrespect. How can you wait in line for your turn then when it is your treated like you're the rude one expecting to be served right away.
