Ate here while visiting family back in September 2021. It was listed as the top restaurant in Newburyport, so we had to check it out. Our party of 6 adults and 3 kids sat on the patio and good thing we had reservations because there was a line out the door after we were sat! It was over a 2 hour dinner because of how busy it was, but once we finally got our dinner, we realized it was worth the wait! My shrimp scampi was amazing - loads of shrimp and I licked my plate clean! My son actually liked the guacamole and chips more than his kids pasta, so I devoured that as well :) Recommend making a call ahead reservation to bypass the wait. Also recommend going maybe not on a Saturday night if you're looking for something quicker. Parking was tough especially in the dark in an unfamiliar town. Everything was perfect! I got shrimp scampi and my partner got prime rib. Both were the best of the best! Our server was so kind and kept our waters full. Great spot for Italian! We were visiting the area and wanted to grab dinner somewhere so this place had 2 seats at the bar that were calling our names. The place needs some updating think more modernized but the food and drinks were great. I had their Sauvignon white wine that was delicious. Hubby and I shared a chowder and Brussels sprouts also fantastic and then split the scallops..also good. The entree were big enough for us to share and did not disappoint. My husband and I stopped in tonight for dinner. We started with dirty martinis which were wonderful. My husband got the prime rib which he LOVED! I tried it too and it had an awesome seasoning all the way around the outside. I had the filet mignon cooked to a perfect medium temperature!! Both entrees came with mashed potatoes and asparagus. 2nd time back. Fair prices for Newburyport and great atmosphere. The problem is the inconsistently cooked steak, and side orders which didn't match their description on the menu and needed a lot of help. It's a shame because the restaurant has what it needs to be phenomenal, but with inconsistencies occurring when we dine, it's just not at that level yet. I hope they will be able to work through these difficulties to execute clean and consistent dishes. I feel bad having to ask for items to be modified or sent back. Eating at Loretta's was a last minute decision because we thought it was closed today. We were thrilled when we got a last minute reservation sitting in the outside patio area. We started with the guacamole and chips which were fresh and tasty. Being gluten free can be hard but Loretta had celiacs and understands the desire for great tasting food that is safe to eat - almost the entire menu can be gluten free!! We shared the pork scallopini & seafood risotto and both were cooked to perfection. Would highly recommend Loretta's to anyone who is looking for a great meal and great service. We waited for 20 minutes then 2 seats at the bar opened up so we took them. waited 10 minutes for service then the manager told us we could not sit there because someone was waiting for seats at the bar. Again I asked how long for a table and was told they don' know. I asked again is it going to be 1/2 hour or 1 hour or 2 hours they don't know so we left and will not return. UM HI. Loretta, you know what's up. It was my first time checking this place out yesterday with my family and we all fell in love. How have I not been here sooner? TAKE ALL MY MONEY. Working in the industry I was super impressed with cleanliness, service, and food. The space is unique with exposed red brick and some quality artwork pieces and portraits. Bar is IMMACULATE. We dined for lunch and all I can say is YUM. We ordered the fish and chips special, a burger, and the chicken salad wrap. Consistent excellence is hard to find today which is what makes Loretta such a wonderful place for dinner. Owner Ted Epstein is there almost every night making certain they deliver an outstanding dinner (lunch is great as well). Everything on the menu is great, and the prime rib, my personal favorite, is the best I have ever had, and I have had it all over the country!! We flew in from Southern California yesterday and absolutely LOVE Newbury Port. We found a wonderful inn and walked around all the quaint shops today. We walked by Loretta's as we headed for homemade ice cream. We asked the owner of the creamery for a recommendation for dinner. She suggested Loretta's and advised us to make a reservation. We made a reservation and were greeted immediately. The restaurant was full, but the wait was minimal. As I looked around, the place was well run and very clean which is a big deal to me. The manager and food servers were all attentive and very kind. We ate the Ravioli, Beet Salad and a cup of clam chowder. The ravioli was the best I've ever had and I'm Italian. It was full of flavor. It actually had corn in the olive oil sauce that was seriously good. The clam chowder was incredible and the beet salad was very good. Our server, Lorraine was kind, attentive and gave wonderful service. I won't hesitate to come back to Newbury Port and look forward to revisiting Loretta's. read more

This review is for lunch. I was lured here by the high ratings and the promise of Italian seafood dishes, and was disappointed that the lunch menu was mostly American salads, burgers, and sandwiches. We had the chicken romaine salad, (special) cobb chicken sandwich, the burger with sweet potato fries, and the ahi tuna salad. I found most of this to be pretty underwhelming and not impressive - ahi tuna pieces were alright and not that flavorful and the salad was overdressed and a bit soggy. The best bite here was the sweet potato fries, so definitely get those as your side of it's an option! They're lightly battered before being fried, and thick cut, giving it a very interesting texture and taste. One thing I did love was the mussels appetizer! We had the white wine & tomato sauce option, which was *chefs kiss* DELICIOUS. We asked for more bread to sop up the sauce (no idea how many calories this was but I don't care and if my parents would stop judging me, I would just drink the sauce). Waitress brought us more bread upon request (please please please request more bread so you can enjoy all the sauce!!!). The mussel were incredibly soft and meaty - unlike the thinner and more rubbery mussels I've had in my general restaurant experience. A-M-A-Z-I-N-G and I don't think I'm lying to say this is the best mussels in wine dish I have ever had. I would come again SPECIFICALLY to have this. I'm never in Newburyport for dinner but I bet the dinner menu is great (between the Yelp reviews and my own firsthand experience with the mussels appetizer dish). Service was a little slow and spotty despite being post lunch-rush (the restaurant was only 20-30% capacity with several waitstaff around). Biggest thing that would elevate the experience here is if they made some more of the dinner-like dishes available for lunch.... If not, I'll just come for the mussels :) read more

Had lunch there today with my husband we absolutely loved it! Clam chowder was delicious, my husband had the cheese burger with French fries both delicious if you like shoestring awesome! I had the pastrami sandwich and it was also delicious, lean and not salty. I apologize to our waitress for not remembering her name , she was so friendly , professional attentive, perfect! The hostess was also very friendly and recommended the candy shop across the street that was really good! I have been wanting to try Loretta's for a long time and so glad we did today. OK food, not great but minus two stars for the service combined with just fair food. Excellent clam chowder and carrot curry bisque. The best part of the meal was the mussels with an awesome white wine broth. For the mains, the salmon was blah, the shrimp scampi was very enjoyable and the burger was fairly average. The host was top notch. We were shut out but he took our number and said he'd call if there was an opening and shortly there was. Very nice. The waitress was the problem. My wife asked her about one of the special house cocktails and she replied sheepishly that she wasn't old enough to drink so she had no idea about the cocktails. We had to ask for bread. We had to ask for water. We had to ask for crackers. We had to ask for drink refills. Then she forgot about them all and we had to ask a second time for each one. Never checked up on us. I need to go see my chiropractor now for my neck, I had to turn it around so many times looking for her. I was just standing up to go chase her down for the check when she showed up. We won't be back sorry to say. The food was not extraordinary enough to negate the bad service. read more
