I was hungry and had a taste for Mexican and decided to try out Los Amigos since it was really close to me. The decor was inviting, with dim lighting, and I loved the music that was playing. Being as I was alone, the hostess sat me in a little corner to myself. That wouldn't have been so bad if the servers didn't forget I was there half the time. They moved pretty slow and so many different people came to my table for things that I had no idea who to flag down and ask to serve me. Many times they would walk by or tell me they would be right back and I would sit there for 10 more minutes. It wasn't busy so not sure what that was about. The drink I had was awesome. Not too strong but still had a nice kick. I only needed one. The salsa and chips were good also. The food....eh. I love Mexican and can be pretty picky...but I did not care for the food too much. I had the chicken enchilada, a taco, and some rice. The meat in the taco was terribly salty...TOO salty. After a couple bites I had to give up on it. The enchilada was mediocre and the tortilla it was cooked in seemed limp and almost like it was going to fall apart. The food had no flavor besides the gravy it was soaked in and the salty meat from the taco. Now the rice...it was good. It was the only thing that I finished eating. Service is great, price is reasonable, tacos al pastor and pollo loco are solid dishes with large portions. The margs are well proportioned! Certainly not a gourmet dining experience, but also not intended to be. This is absolutely where I want to go with a big group of friends, after a game, to celebrate a win, to forget a loss, to grub before going out later, or to go to after a nice outdoorsy park day. I don't even know how to rate these Mexican restaurant chains anymore....but for some reason, I keep going back for the novelty experience and cheap eats. They obviously mostly cater to middle class white folk that probably don't appreciate authentic Mexican food anyways, and It is what it is. This one has a train that goes around in the dining room, that was kinda nifty. Ok here goes.... Ok a Nacho Supreme, beef quesadilla, and margaritas is what was ordered. First we get chips and salsa free! It was ok, the salsa part contained only tomato base. No onions, no peppers, no cilantro, no nothing but red hot sauce salsa. It was ok I guess. No I take that back, it sucked. Margaritas, drinkable, and predictable. Nachos, and quesadilla come lightening fast! Quesadilla, nothing but 2 tortillas, meat, and cheese. What did I expect right? Nachos, we could not help quit laughing about. It was a huge pile, and when I mean pile, I mean its a pile! It comes with the liquid type cheese, not the cooked on stuff! Half way through the chips had fused somewhere within the liquid soggy mess! Needless to say Its a huge soggy pile of slop, and its actually kinda funny as long as you aren't paying for it. Its pretty ridiculous really to say the least. Bathroom could use a touch-up, i hate restaurants with bathrooms that aren't in good shape. This usually says something about the rest of the establishment. The women's room had urine all over the toilets. Lunch was delivered fast and service was good. However the food was only ok. We ordered lunches. I had a tacos and burrito, my mom ordered a quesadilla. The quesadilla was beef (ground beef) and was so wet that is was soggy, they also barely browned the tortilla. My taco and burrito were also beef and were again so soggy/greasy it was mush. The beans were good, salsa was ok, chips were ok. The Mexican rice had mixed vegetables in it? Lima beans, peas, carrots? Not sure why? 3 stars for service and speed. Margarita was also good. We were visiting Ann Arbor for an athletic event and my husband was in the mood for Mexican food so we tried Los Amigos. I was cautiously optimistic since the inside of the restaurant had nice decor, was clean, and was full of patrons. Although our server was very nice and friendly, we waited at least 10-15 minutes before our drink order was taken and also waited a bit for our check. Now onto the food, we come from an area with very good Mexican food & have traveled to areas with excellent Mexican food. The chips and salsa came with the chips being fine, but the salsa had a very bland highly tomato almost jarred flavor. Our side of guacamole was also very bland. I make guacamole quite often and this lacked lime juice, salt, & additional seasonings. My dinner was a basic combo of a beef taco & cheese enchilada. The taco was fine, but the cheese enchilada was smothered in an overpowering mole sauce. I thought it was just me, but my husband said his Chile relleno was inedible because of the sauce. He did enjoy his tamale & the tacos. He also asked for additional jalapeños and received a dish of pickled jalapeños instead of freshly sliced jalapeños. I mostly come in for the happy hour margaritas! Frozen is the way to go for sure, better taste than on the rocks and a great bang for your buck. The staff is always very friendly and attentive. I have eaten a lot of different things on the menu and have yet to be disappointed. Personal favorites are the Chile relleno and shrimp quesadillas. read more

I didn't come here looking for quality, authentic Mexican. I came looking for cheese-smothered goodness and cheap, yummy margaritas. Because sometimes, that's what you want. Los Amigos scored ok in both of those categories, but that's it. I went during happy hour, where a huge pitcher of margaritas is only $10. Very acceptable. However, the margaritas were a little watery, a little too sweet, so not quite what I was looking for. That said, you really can't complain much about a $10 pitcher... As for the food, I got the Chile Colorado with beef. The flavor was about right, but the beef was tough. My boyfriend tried one of the enchilada dishes, and I liked it more than my meal, but still not quite what I was looking for. Prices were also a little high for the quality of food. Service was prompt, but we were also some of the only people in the restaurant. Maybe I'm biased because I know I can get exactly what I want at a restaurant back in Illinois and it's hard for something else to live up to your expectations. The chips had a taste like they had been in the warmer too long. The salsa is red. No heat at all. Not a lot of taste either. The cheese relleno comes in a mole sauce - it would be better with a ranchero sauce in my opinion the mole is too heavy. The cheese enchilada was great. Good taste and enough sauce. Los Amigos is the new incarnation of El Camino Real - same building, same decor, new owners I believe. I've been here twice since it opened, and I can say with some certainty that it's some of the best "Mexican" Ann Arbor has to offer. The bar is, shall we say, low. But this place is actually pretty good. They have a full bar, and the best deal is draft beer. You can get a 24oz of Pacifico (or Blue Moon, and a handful of others) for a little over $4, and a 36oz for $5 something. They also have the standard issue daquaris and margaritas, which I have not tried. They bring out a large basket of chips and salsa when you arrive, which are great. Warm chips, flavorful salsa with a hint of heat. The menu is large and again, pretty standard issue for what passes for Mexican this far north. I had the chilaquiles the first time I came, and the chicken enchiladas verde the second. My husband tried the Tacos al carbon. Everything was plentiful, simple, and tasty. The chili verde sauce was especially nice. The beans were deliciously smooth. Skip the rice, it's nothing special. This place definitely fills a niche in the market - it's big, family-friendly, good for groups, reasonably priced, and near the mall, so plenty of parking. Haute cuisine it is not. But as comfort food, it fits the bill. read more

Relatively safe place if you want some mexican food more authenticity than Chili's, but far from a really good sampling of mexican food. I got the enchiladas supreme with 4 different kinds of enchilada. The chicken was dry and crazy chewy, the cheese was filled with what I can only hope was their Queso and not real cheese (it tasted more like a tortilla dipped in cheese sauce, very light on filling). The salsa they start you with is, again, OK but not great. Almost a complete liquid, I prefer my salsa to have some texture. If you shut out the atmosphere of the restaurant you may think they served you a bowl of marinara. I'd rate more like 2.5 stars but can't round up to three. It's just forgettable, bland, americanized mexican food. I'd rather just have Chipotle or go somewhere in downtown Ann Arbor even though it'd be a few extra bucks read more

We came here for margaritas and dessert and we really enjoyed ourselves! This is a large, family friendly restaurant, and I didn't feel like my baby was bugging anyone with his little bit of noise! The small pitcher of margaritas was a good value... We felt like we got a lot for our money. The churros we ordered were out of this world!!! They come 2 to an order and a bowl of vanilla ice cream is also part of the deal. I wish there had been more churros and less ice cream, but wow were the churros yummy!! It wasn't super busy on a Friday night, so it could be a good choice for a big group if you need a reservation. Can't wait to go back for more churros & drinks! We often visit this location for happy hour. Staff are really friendly, nice patio area for outside drinking/dinning but the food is not good. It's American Mexican I guess is the best way to describe it. I would recommend this place for happy hour drinks but not for Mexican food. read more

So I was a little bit skeptical about going to a Mexican restaurant in Ann Arbor Michigan. But walking inside it looked just like a Mexican restaurant you would see in California . I sat at the bar and received quick and very friendly service. I ordered the number 3 which comes with 2 enchiladas, 1 taco and a chili relleno all for $9.50. This restaurant was satisfactory. The service was great and they give you free chips and salsa when you sit down. My mom and I really liked the salsa, but as spicy food lovers, we got the spicy salsa which was super spicy and good. We mixed it with the non spicy salsa and had the perfect amount of kick to it. We ordered the steak fajitas for two which definitely was quantity over quality. It wasn't bad food, it just wasn't the best fajita we ever had, but we definitely struggled to finish it and we were starving to begin with. My boyfriend and I come here every week since we have moved to Ann Arbor. The waiters know exactly what we want when we walk through the door. My husband and I had dinner at this place. We spent $77 and gave a $12 tip. About 3 minutes after we left I realized I left my purse hanging on the chair out on the patio where we sat. I called the restaurant and a guy answered. I told him I left my purse. He immediately said I didn't. I told him where I sat and asked him to ask the waitress about it. He told me all their waitresses have black hair and again said no purse was found. I asked to speak to a female. A female told me no purse was found. I told her where I sat and she put me on hold. When she returned to the phone she said no purse was there and that she asked the other customers who were now seated there. They said they saw no purse. I told her I was on my way back and would call the police. I arrived at the restaurant . There was NO ONE seated at the table that we were previously at. I walked inside and told them I came to look for my purse. A female employee pointed to a male employee and said he has your purse. He reached behind a podium looking stand and gave me my purse. The food is not too bad. The Tacos Al Carbon and Fajitas are actually really good. The ingredients are fresh and good quality. The ambiance is what you would expect for a typical Mexican restaurant. Festive and fun. The service was good. Although, the server did not have to get us any refills so maybe we were just easy customers. We went on a Friday night - they were rather slow. Los Amigos Monster Margaritas, you make my world a better place. I'm here at least once a week because I just can't resist the pull of the Los Amigos bar. This place is too close to home and I am just too weak in the knees... Happy Hour is daily from 3-6 pm and margaritas and beer are half off. I will admit that a yummy, boozey, gigantic margarita for around $5 is sadly enough to win my loyalty, but that's not all they have to offer... The atmosphere is fun (who doesn't love the train?) and we've met some pretty interesting folks at the bar. The staff is great... oh, how I adore the Los Amigos staff. They are honestly happy when we drop in. They are friendly, attentive and keep the free chips coming... The free chips and salsa is a perk, because I don't always come to order food but who can resist hot, crispy chips and fresh salsa? The food always arrives quickly. I tend to stick to the Fajitas for One plate (it really feeds two) as this meal is always consistently delicious whereas other meals have been a bit bland (eh, that's what hot sauce is for.) The only downside to this establishment is that the food is not up to my standard of what authentic Mexican fare should be... but I'll let them slide a bit on that, because well... this is Ann Arbor we're talking about... If I keep going, I'm just going to start ranting about those freakin' margaritas again... LOVE! read more

We give this place a 2 because of the Cinco de Mayo shirts. Other than that this place is a step up from taco hell because they serve alcohol.
