By far the worst experience ever. The margaritas were horrible tasting. Had 2 sips and asked to have it removed from my bill since I wouldn't be drinking it. I was informed by the waitress and the manager that they would charge me for half since 22 minutes had gone by after getting it. Manager said I should have told the waitress sooner. I told her the first time she came to check on us, which was 22 minutes after bringing them to us. He refused to remove full amount even though I had only 2 sips. The chips were not good either. I ordered the "Speedy Gonzalez" with a taco, beans, and enchilada. The lettuce that came on the taco was black, wilted, and rotting. I did not eat it. The beans were refried pinto. They were plain. I'm looking at people comparing this place to taco bell, that's nuts. And americanized? You mean larger portions of food, and an actually decent portion of meat? This place is great. Yeah sure, there are some places downtown if you're a hot sauce junky and want 27 different varieties of it. I'm not a hot sauce junky, though I do like me some well marinated/seasoned juicy meat. Personally I'd just stick with their medium (standard) salsa, which does NOT taste like marinara sauce. Their mild does taste a little like marinara sauce, but I blame that on anyone that prefers salsa more mild than medium, which is quite mild. Taco King's medium is blazing hot, Los Amigos' is just right. Also, they have amazing specials on their margaritas during happy hour. Protip: most Italian restaurants are actually Italian American restaurants, as are Mexican restaurants Mexican American restaurants. You cook with the same flavors, but a big ball of meat is really a little much, and not found in traditional Italian cooking. Except in the US, meat is cheap, so have at it! Same philosophy here. Also, their carnitas are wonderful. It's my favorite place in Ann Arbor for Mexican food. Also, if you guys read this, check out beef tongue tacos, and consider frying the chimichanga. (maybe it already is fried, I can't remember, but iirc, it was not). read more

I have been going to this place for several years now. And it's the first restaurant that has lasted that long in that location (anyone remember that Moroccan place in the late 90s/early 2000?). But there is a reason this place is still there. It is GOOD food at very reasonable prices. My friends and I love to go there for lunch. The chips and salsa (SUCH good salsa too) are free, and perfect to munch on while waiting for our food. And the wait is never that long. The plates come out hot and yummy. They also have extra hot salsa if you ask for it specially. And it is truly fire engine hot (my husband loves that stuff). I have no complaints, their service is fast, my 3 year old loves the train that runs around a track near the ceiling and the meal fills you up. As a side note- their sister restaurant on Washtenaw is not nearly as good. The chips there are always re-fried as if they reused old ones and they are skimpy on the rice and chicken for your main meal. We drive further just to come to this location near the mall. read more

Was traveling in the Ann Arbor area and per the reviews expected it to be much better. Atmosphere was nice, however, too warm to be comfortable. This wasn't only my opinion as I observed other customers fanning themselves. My husband and I love Mexican food and frequent them regularly at home and most anywhere we travel, but this was a big disappointment. The food looked better than it tasted and certainly wasn't worth the price. I ordered a margarita, which was terrible. If this had been my first experience tasting one, I would never order another. First of all, the glass wasn't full and I only managed to drink MAYBE 1/4 of it before I politely told the waiter that it, "wasn't very good". I was trying to be nice, even after trying to drink a little of it anyway, but the waiter cut me off and said since I drank it they wouldn't take it off the bill. I can't believe Los Amigos got 3 stars - Yelp has never steered me wrong before. The food was terrible and the margaritas undrinkable. I ordered chicken mole. The sauce was awful and it had raw onions all over it. My teenager who loves cheese in all forms only ate a quarter of his cheese quesadilla. My husband got the wrong entree and was so grossed out by it he left without eating. My other son had the loaded nachos, but he said the sour cream tasted weird and the chips were too soggy to be useful. To top all of that off, the place was dirty and the toilet in the men's room was leaking. All in all, an awful experience. read more

Perhaps the second would have been that I was their only customer. I paid $17 for Carne Asade which was extremely tough, even though they were gracious enough to give me a butter knife to use. Was in town and wanted a quick place to stop for lunch, my dining companion wanted Mexican so it was off to Los Amigos. It was located in the Briarwood shopping mall area so it was pretty easy parking and on and off the freeway. The outside looks a little run down--has a cheesy little 3 pony stand with paint chipping away from the ponies. Wasn't too happy about being seated in a dark, dank booth way in the back of the place but wasn't going to complain since we were hungry. Place wasn't too full but there were quite a few patrons at the bar. Not really impressed with their lunch menu. Just standard stuff like taco, burrito and quesadilla plates. There was a grilled fish entree and lunch fajitas but I ended up ordering a lunch size taco salad. I would have paid a few bucks more for maybe a better selection of tacos (like carne asada, shrimp, etc.). We ordered beef and cheese nachos and while there was plenty, I could tell this was warmed up queso from a jar or possibly Velveeta queso and cheese. Not too appetizing. Neither was the huge lump of ground beef piled on the too crispy chips. Wasn't horrible but Del Taco has a better Macho Nacho plate than this. The taco salad was ground beef slathered on the bottom of an edible shell, layered with iceberg lettuce, a tiny bit of shredded white cheese, a huge dollop of sour cream (dressing? couldn't tell) and one half slice of tomato. Not very appealing. I've had better taco salads from Qdoba. Was really disappointed. My partner said the same about his meal and was disappointed that the $2 lunch margarita was tiny. All in all lesson learned. BTW--the waitress was very nice but my companion was a bit put off and felt rushed when the bill came. With so many lunch options available near this location, I wouldn't really recommend it. read more

When the bill came, we noticed one item was wrong, we'd been overcharged for some drinks which we pointed out to the waitress. Came here on Cinco de Mayo with my fiancé and her mom. As we walked in we saw a lot of people waiting outside and we wondered if we were able to get a table. We were five the standard 30 minute wait so we ordered margaritas at the bar. The place was very crowded and noisy but lively and pleasant. We got a table outside under the awning. We ordered a fajita for two and a quesadilla. The weather was a bit on the cool side and I originally wasn't too keen on sitting outside but when they got rid of the plastic curtain to let the sun in, it was much better. There was a group of people sitting next to us and one person started smoking a cigarette (or a clove cigarette). I wasn't sure if that was allowed on the patio next to all the other diners, even if it was outside. None of the waiters told them anything as they got served. Our food was served in a timely manner. The fajitas for two was very good and was plenty of food. It also came with refried beans with cheese, pico de gallo, guacamole and Spanish rice. Small,Tortillas were also served in aluminum foil, but there was only about 4'on each foil so we had to ask the waitress a few times, which wasn't a problem.
