If my New York friends could see me now, they would be shaking their heads in displeasure. On my quest to find the best taco place in north Austin, this comes in at #1 for now. I don't remember the first time I came here but I got breakfast tacos and a lemonade. The tacos were a bit small but the price was perfect and the lemonade was homemade and delicious! The place is very bright and big with lots of places to sit and it has waitresses that check in with you more than enough times while you are there. I have tried this place several times hoping one day they will exceed my expectations, but they have been consistently bland. The meats never have flavor and are of a low grade quality. The breakfast food is FANTASTIC and very inexpensive, especially the chorizo tacos. The lunch/dinner options however are terrible. I got something with Shrimp and it was very chewy and had no flavor, my kiddos got their favorite foods and neither of them liked their food either, they both complained that it was chewy as well. I'm just getting to this review. My last visit here was disurbing and most definitely my last visit. After ordering our meals, I noticed the staff looking over and grinning. Finally, a waitress walked by and ask how I liked my food. She said it was a special order. I stopped eating my meal right away. I refuse to go to a place that I'm not confident they didn't do something to my order. Every time we went there we were good customers and good tippers, but after always being treat as we were not welcome and especially after this last visit, I'll never step foot in there again. So far the service has been great and the food was yummy. I had chilaquiles and my husband had caldo de res. The chilaquiles we great, tortilla chips were nice and crunchy. Sauce was good too. I used to love visiting this place because of how wonderful everything tasted. This past Tuesday when I visited with my mentee made it seem as if I didn't know what I was talking about. When we sat down we ordered drinks and the chips and salsa was amazing per usual. She ordered the Tex-Mex enchilada plate and I initially ordered a combo plate but changed my mind after finding out that they were out of tamales. I went with the carne asada instead. The food arrived and looked awesome; the carne asada was sizzling on the hotplate which I love. We also had to ask twice for limes and pico de gallo which when they arrived the limes were dry and gave no juice, and the pico de gallo was visibly old and tasted bitter like old wine. The enchiladas smelled like moldy clothes and the carne asada was over cooked, so tough to chew and severely under seasoned. The manager claimed that the reason why the enchiladas smelled funny is because they recently got a new food provider, he also claimed the cheese was the reason for the smell. My question in my mind was well if you are aware of this, why are you still serving it? He also continues explaining to me that he would've chosen the green sauce enchiladas if he were me. At this point how does that help? Anyway he comped the enchilada plate and I still paid for everything else although not optimal. I have always loved this place in the past but now am unsure that I will ever return. read more

Let me start by saying that the employees that work here are some of the rudest most judgmental people I've ever spoken to. I went to place a to go order of three breakfast tacos today, a simple dish compared to other things on their menu, and then stood near the counter to wait. Other customers came in and placed orders after me and almost immediately got their food. One family of 10 got all of their FULL MEALS before I did. I asked again where my food was and how long they estimated I'd have to wait and I got answers along the lines of "It's coming" or "Almost". The simple answers also might be due to the fact that their staff spoke little to no english. I speak Spanish and could hear them saying not very kind things behind the counter. After a total of 50 minutes of standing and waiting (because they kicked me off the chair I was using to clear it for other customers) I finally got my order. They didn't even offer an "I'm sorry." Even at whataburger I got a free drink for a 20 min wait. This restaurant has also gotten my orders wrong in the past and over charged me. Not somewhere I'm going back to. read more

Horrible customer service. I put in an online order through their website. Have them the 45-55min it asked for. On arrival I was given my order, inspected in vehicle and only got one soup from order. Went back in and the lady said "oh yeah I forgot to put it two" goes to the kitchen and asks for another, in Spanish, and cook says I closed everything. So she continues to tell me. Sorry we can refund the order just being the rest of the food in, like it was my fault. Employee name was Claudia and was extremely disrespectful. First visit today with my wife for lunch. I had two tacos, one barbacoa and one chicken fajita. My wife had a plain cheese quesedilla. Arguably the best barbacoa I've ever had. Tender, great flavor, topped with chopped white onion and cilantro. Horchata was fantastic as well. 4-stars for the food, 5-stars for the price. So hard to find a cheap lunch anymore! This is really a no frills style neighborhood Mexican diner in a parking strip. I've been here twice now, once for breakfast tacos (yum) and again for chicken fajitas (a quite generous portion) which had great flavor. Though sometimes hard to interpret, the waitstaff is prompt and polite. Tried the margaritas: inexpensive and pack a punch! They are served in plastic glasses The atmosphere is a bit to be desired, high Kelvin scale fluorescent lighting in a dropped 8' ceiling of acoustical tile, But the full parking lot alone should be a testament to its affordable and tasty food. read more

Honestly this is my favorite breakfast place in Austin. I live in Cedar Park and it's super close. The food is so inexpensive and it's always amazing. Doesn't matter if you're nursing a hangover or taking your kiddos out for breakfast tacos it always hits the spot. The ladies that work there have been there for years and they always take care of us. My son is allergic to peanuts, wheat and soy and I never worry that they will mess up our order. Fresh homemade tortillas, bacon thick and fried just right, the cheese is that awesome Mexican cheese that's rich and creamy. I went for a quick take away lunch and found that the restaurant was having an issue with the internet making them unable to accept card bank-card payments. They had a technician on hand but I was going to be late to an appointment so they just gave me my order with apologies. It wasn't there fault and I plan on returning to pay them. Just ok. We came on a Saturday morning to place a to-go order for breakfast tacos. It was busy, but the order took 25 minutes to fill. The avocado salsa was good, and the red salsa was mediocre. Both were homemade. Taco prices were cheap and we paid about $8.60 for 6 tacos. They tasted fine, but nothing to really wow us. They were also kinda small, but understandable given the price. I actually like Guadalajara. They have interior mexican food, unlike the tex-mex usually found around Austin (I'm from AZ). I enjoy anything with shredded beef, and usually order the barbacoa tacos with onions and cilantro on soft corn tortillas. The place has expanded in the last few years, and has a loyal following.
