They have been around for a number of years at another location. The food tastes very similar to the first location. The service is good and attentive. The drinks are good and tasty. I would say that no matter which location in town you choose to go to you will find the same food and drinks as the original location. read more

Went to have lunch today at Los Cuates for the last time. On the table is advertised, Brisket Tacos, the picture looked, little pricey at $12. When the food was delivered, I mean, no joke!!, the tacos were really over saturated and dripping with grease!! I could not eat it!!! Waitress said sorry, talked with the manager. He just said well why didn't you tell your waitress, because he got no word from her. I said, I did tell my waitress and now I am telling you. He said he would give me a discount, he took $2 off. He had attitude. I ended up paying the $10 with no tip!! I just wanted to have a relaxing time, ended up leaving disappointed. read more

So I definitely enjoyed this place! The food was really good and was what I was craving. I got enchiladas, rice and beans and would 100% return because the entree was delicious and the customer service was good. I had to take off a star because I was not impressed by their salsa or the guacamole. Both came in little cups and the guac was even an extra charge and you got the smallest amount I've ever been charged for! I was kind of shocked. Good guac but not for $2 when it was such a tiny amount. The chips were good but to be honest when I come back...I'd bring my own salsa and bowl. Most places serve a bowl of salsa with the basket of chips. I hope this place steps up their salsa game... other than that, great food! read more

First visit to this location. We were huge fans of Copelands, so it was fun to see the changes within this space. Go for the food, not the ambiance or the service. The chips are very light and crisp. I like the salsa, but it is very different. It is fruity, and spicy rather than a pico de gallo. The beans were creamy and well seasoned. The margaritas are small but very tasty. I do not usually like sopapillas, but these were hot, soft, and delicious. However, it seemed as though they wanted to turn our table over quickly. The entrees came when we were just starting the appetizer round. The entire table was covered with dishes. Our entrees got cold as we raced to finish the appetizers. While the chips were served in a silver bowl, the salsa was in a little plastic cup. The silverware was very thin and seemed flimsy and cheap. For a sit-down restaurant, it seemed kind of fast food-ish. It won't be a priority for us to go back. read more

We used to be huge fans of Garduno's, and we locals don't have to be told what happened there. Garduno's hit rock bottom in more ways than one, and we West Siders were left without much in the way of great Mexican food... until Los Cuates moved in directly next to Garduno's (dun dun dun!). At first we were skeptical and drove by the place without stopping in for months. From the outside, it doesn't look like much. Garduno's has a far more interesting look. But we finally dropped in and we were floored by how good the food was. Los Cuates has an extensive menu, and they have some of the fastest table service we've ever encountered. During a busy Friday night, we managed to get seated within five minutes, ordered our food, and had it at the table in fifteen minutes flat. It was incredible! I'm sure that won't always be the case, but when this place gets busy, their kitchen staff knows how to move. The food quality here is great. The flavor is probably the best you can get in Albuquerque (we've yet to find a place that compares). The chili is always flavorful--we're fans of the red--and the salsa is unique but weirdly delicious. Visit and you'll see what we mean. read more

This was my first trip here. As I type this I know my review is going to be all over the place. Service: Service was a little slow. Although my food arrived in an acceptable amount of time the wait staff seemed over-worked and was not available when I needed something. Food: Chips & Salsa: Chips were stale and in desperate need of some salt. The salsa was horrible. Picture BBQ sauce mixed with some pace salsa, and add some sugar. I was extremely disappointed in this sweet, BBQ sauce concoction they claim in salsa. The worst part was it's for sale if you want to take it home!!! I would not normally insult other people's taste buds, but there is no way anyone could possibly think this salsa (if you want to call it that) is good enough to take home with you. Rice & Beans: Very good. I was very happy with the rice and beans. Ground Beef Enchilada's: I had them add an over easy egg and it was fantastic. The tortillas were easy to cut with a fork and the green chili sauce they covered it in was incredible. I was very pleased. Ground Beef Taco's: I had to add some green chili to the tacos because they were rather plain, but it came out pretty good. I would stick with just the enchilada's next time if you are in the mood for some tacos I would definitely recommend them. Sopaipilla: Very good. I was stuffed, but I found room for this final treat! Price: Prices were a little inflated. My wife and I ate for just over $30 (not counting a tip). Considering the chips & salsa are complimentary and we ordered enchiladas and tacos I would have really liked to have been under $30. I was tempted to try the fajita plates but could not bring myself to spend $15 for it (it was lunch time, but not the lunch menu). I would be interested in trying other menu items but everything seemed to be a few more dollars then I would like to pay, especially because you can get really good New Mexican food for two under $25 without looking very hard. Overall this visit was very close to being a four-star rating. The disappointing parts were very disappointing, but the food was really good and tasted true New Mexican. I do not doubt I will go again, hopefully willing to spend a little more on my entree, and with a little luck they will kill whoever claims that salsa is edible. read more

We ate there on a Friday at 7 pm. It was busy, and we were told the wait was 30 min. We sat at the bar, ordered two drinks, and within 15 min we were at our table! Our server was great, and the live Mariachi band was very nice! As with the other reviews here, their salsa is a bad homage to chipotle/barbque/salsa that does not quite fit well together. It is different, but it is not great. That said, we ordered and shared a carne adobada combination plate and added a chicken taco. The plate came with a steak, two tostadas, and an enchilada. The food was wonderful, and the sopapillas were hot, and light/fluffy. We have been here a few times, and we consistently say it outperforms our expectations. With a glass of wine, a well drink and food, we spent about $30.00 for dinner. read more

I always get chicken enchiladas, rice, and beans; that's my go to Mexican food order. I get it without chile...I know, I know, New Mexicans are throwing things at my review now, but I'm not from NM and with chile, you never know what you're going to get, spicy, spicier, or holy crap! So I just avoid it. The enchiladas, rice, and beans are good, but that is not the reason for the 5 stars. The reason for the 5 stars is the SOAPAPILLAS! They are some of the best sopas I've ever had. With honey on top, they are flaky, not doughy or chewy, and they are DELICIOUS! read more

My spouse very much wanted to try this restaurant. The place was packed, and at an hour I would consider early for dinner on a Friday night. The decor was nice, service was fantastic until they really got busy, then dropped off, but overall very good service. Warning, they do try to drop off an extra basket of chips because they charge for additional. These were not hot or anything special for me to want to pay for more. The blue corn tortillas used for the enchilada plates were dry and tougher than expected, but the flavors were good on everything. All in all the food was pretty average and ran about $10 per person for the entrees we ordered. I may give them another try sometime. They are certainly better than the tourist food at Garduno's, but with so many good New Mexican restaurants here it won't be soon. read more

I've been to several Los Cuates locations and always found the food to be average, if reliable, and usually very uninviting as far as ambiance. This location, way out on the frontier known as the West Side, had a much better interior than any other LC I'd been to and had a great mariachi band roving the restaurant for entertainment, but offered less tasty food than I'd had at other locations previously. I ordered the chicken enchiladas, and as I awaited their arrival, munched on the chips and salsa that I was grateful to LC for providing. I was quite hungry, and as most of my reviews note, this is to a restaurant's favor, as I am far less critical of what I eat. Thus, I didn't mind that the chips were a bit stale (and I was pleased at the tasty, if spicy, salsas that accompanied them). I enjoyed sitting at the bar, sipping a Fat Tire and enjoying the music while awaiting my food, and the chips and salsa made a dent on my hunger. When my enchiladas arrived, I was impressed by the appearance of the food, as the enchiladas were smothered in chile and the beans and rice looked great. Unfortunately, the beans were unremarkable, the Spanish rice sort of a side note (as opposed to a side dish!) and the enchiladas, though initially good, ended up being forgettable. My prinicipal criticism of these poor enchiladas was that the corn tortillas were chewy, like they'd been cooked al dente. Or, more likely, they simply were stale tortillas that had been used anyways. Not exactly the most attractive thing to realize as you nosh on any dish. All in all, the food quelled my hunger, and I enjoyed the atmosphere, so I am giving an average rating, but I'm not sure I'd be back here for the food. More likely, I'd go on a full stomach just to hang out at the bar. Although, thinking of that now, there's not much seating, so I'm not sure I'd even go back for that. I've always loved Los Cuates as far as Albuquerque mexican food options go, but after living in Santa Fe for the past handful of years, I found it less desirable upon my return to ABQ. Their red chili is quite hot, which I enjoy. The green chili isn't hot at all, and I was disappointed in it. Dining in, you used to get a great portion to fill you up and it wasn't expensive. I haven't dined in again since returning to Albuquerque, so I'm not sure if that's still true. Our family instead loves ordering "catering" sizes from different restaurants each week or two, and unfortunately Los Cuates let us down here. The enchilada platters, while delicious, are very small and expensive. For $40, you get 12 small, single, rolled enchiladas with either chicken or beef. That's it. No sides. It claims to feed "up to 12", however no 12 people, not even children, likely, are going to be filled up on one tiny single rolled enchilada. We won't order catering again here for the lack of value for the price. read more

When went in to eat at Los Cuates and was not expecting much my wife nudged me and she said look and it was a true northern New Mexico Singer Gabriela Tafoya everyone has to hear her sing she is out of this world she was our hostess she was so nice and sweet just made our dinner great. This was the experience we needed for New Mexican food bear our home. The interior is great. Clean and well taken care of. The wait staff and manager consistently checked in on us. While I'm not crazy about their sweet salsa, everything else was excellent. The portions are huge. I had a combination platter and devoured it. My wife had New Mexico style enchiladas and relished then. My only problem is the sweet salsa. I'd like to see that served on request. However, the mariachis on Sunday and Friday evenings more than make up for it. read more

Dubious beginnings, we didn't see anyone at the bar and there was no hostess to seat us. Given, it was 2:30pm. The jalapeño margarita was the BEST I ever had and I come from the land of margaritas. It was made with fresh jalapeño. The brilliant mixologist in charge of the best flavored marg is named Duvessa. What a great introduction to this location! I usually love this restaurant. It does a great job with my New Mexican food fix. So it is kinda disappointing to leave this review. When we showed up at the restaurant it was nearly empty yet they sat us right in front of the kitchen doors. We asked to be moved. Which they happily did. At our next table there were black ants crawling on the booth separating wall which is wiped off with a napkin. The knife out of my silverware napkin was dirty and the table we sat at was also sticky. The wait staff was really nice and I have no complaints with them but the restaurant needs a good cleaning. read more

Los Cuates has always been one of those restaurants where you know you'll get great food and have great service every time! The food is very inexpensive and the quality is even better. A group of 14 of us were there on a very busy Friday night. We had to wait about 15 minutes to be seated but the food and service made up for it. Ask for Amor! Had a great dinner here this evening. We sat on the patio and it was very nice. Our waitress Tiffany was awesome! Very friendly and attentive. We had the cheese enchiladas and the steak fajitas. Servings were huge. Had the potatoes with the enchiladas instead of the norm and I could have eaten a whole plate of them. Loved the red chili. Not too hot. If I could give the place a zero I would. The chile con queso tasted like velveta with canned chiles, and the chips were stale. I ordered a stuffes buritto christmas style, Im almost positive that red chile was from a can, the green wasnt too bad. I ate maybe 2 bites. My husband order the chimichanga, again the red chile was awful, and he said the meat tasted just like roast beef. Also please take the patio happy hour menus off the regular tables. Los cuates at cottonwood has the worst customer service I've ever experienced in Albuquerque. Very Immature staff especially the man that stands around the female staff near the entrance. I usually have a good experience when i eat here. My experience tonight: The host was nice, the food was good, the other servers were friendly, but my server (Daniel) was awful. I waited at least 45 minutes (20 Of those minutes waiting for him to give my card back after he left to close my bill). When I asked another server to check on him because I was waiting they weren't able to find him. Very ridiculous. There's no reason for him to hold onto someone's card for that long. read more

We came here on a Sunday night around 8pm. Los Cuates wasn't busy so we were seated right away and promptly attended. Chips and salsa were okay...there's something a bit off with the salsa. Not sure what it is...it was a little spicy. I ordered the Taco Salad with chicken and my date ordered the Fajitas Special. My Taco Salad wasn't the best. The shell holding the salad was sad and wilted. Also, Los Cuates could you turn the lights up a bit? I couldn't tell the difference between my lettuce and avocado because the lights were so dim. I am giving two stars because my food wasn't great, but mostly because our stomachs hurt throughout the night- something wasn't right with our food. Must've been the salsa? This place was a lot different than I was expecting. The jalapeño margaritas are good. I ordered the seafood enchiladas. There was a very small amount of red chile on the enchiladas and they were mostly covered in queso. Don't get me wrong, I like queso...but I think there is a time and place for it. I don't think enchiladas are a good place to put queso. The enchiladas were tasty, but not what I consider true enchiladas. I think this place is overpriced. In my opinion, it's a bit of a tourist trap. I much prefer the numerous hole-in-the-wall Mexican and/or New Mexican food places in Albuquerque. I don't know if I'll be back. read more

Well guys, not sure what happened last night (Cinco de Mayo) but that was pretty bad. Had to wait roughly 20 minutes for a glass of water because they were "out of cups". It was 550pm, busy but not ridiculous yet. We order cocktails as soon as we receive our waters which to our surprise never showed up. They were brought to us after we had completed our meals and ready to leave. They did comp the margaritas which we did not ask them to do. I was very disappointed considering we beat the rush on what I would imagine is the busiest night of the year for local Mexican food restaurants. All my prior visits were wonderful, so we will try it again eventually. read more

I made a comment to the lead waitress that it reminded me of El Pinto, overpriced food and margaritas, her reply was, "it's the same owners". One of our traditions is to go to Los Cuates every time my folks come to visit. Lets just say we are never disappointed!!!! Great service, great food and great atmosphere. The hostesses are always so welcoming. The servers are so prompt and we never have an empty glass.
