Frequent domain diner (I live in the neighborhood). So I've tried out all the spots and of course have my favorites by now. I've gotta say, Lotus + Cleaver's food was definitely on par with quality and taste. Kudos! And I also appreciate their dog-friendly patio, and very attentive wait-staff. But I have to give them only 4 stars for two reasons: 1. The portion sizes and price are disproportionate. If I'm paying $14 for seseame chicken, I expect to either take some home, or be able to share it with the other person at the table. This is Chinese food after all...there should be generous portions. 2. Never should you ever have to pay $10 for a cocktail made with sake. The drinks were adequate, but Margaritas are everywhere in the domain, and they cost less (with real tequila). Specialty cocktails in general (with liquor) in the domain can run you $6 -$12. If I'm not getting liquor in this cocktail, what exactly am I paying for? Again, the food was excellent, the staff was very friendly and professional. The atmosphere was also very nice. I just hope this place doesn't put themselves out of business by having higher prices (with smaller portions) than all of their domain neighbors. Dude. I'd never heard of Lotus + Cleaver until this past week, but it's DELICIOUS. It's in the new Rock Rose section of the Domain. I'm picky about my Asian foods, but this spot didn't disappoint. My unexpected favorite was probably the shrimp + avocado toast on Easy Tiger sourdough - it's a very surprising but scrumptious combo. The crispy fish was perfectly flaky with a crunchy exterior, and the gua bao (Chinese pork belly buns) were a fun, contemporary take on the classic. I forgot to snap a photo of the Five Spice chicken wings, but I wish every chicken wing I eat from now on could have such a perfect crisp to it. The sauce packs some serious heat, which obviously made this spice queen quite happy. The Singapore slaw was a yummy noodly saucy veggie festival in my mouth, and I really enjoyed the Oak & Sake cocktails, which blends a hint of hickory smoke to the mix of barrel-aged sake, vermouth, and IPA. After my 'go to' local Chinese place closed after falling victim to the pandemic, I was on the prowl for a new joint. Well......I may have found it after reading a review in Austin Monthly magazine. Placed a pick-up order - dumplings, lo mein, chicken fried rice, and egg rolls. Everything was very tasty and plentiful. The ordering and pick-up process was easy. We came in on a Friday night thinking it was counter service and at evening times it's not! We got seated at a communal table but felt more private then most communal tables. We were sat right next to the kitchen and we could see all the action! Limited menu but what they have is amazing. I'm a picky eater and still found plenty even with the small menu. We started with the half chicken which came out super moist- fall into your fork moist. We got two sides the cauliflower was definitely the winner. So well marinated. Sometimes some restaurants overlook the vegetables but not to sound sappy about cauliflower but there was definitely care in that dish! Our third party ordered the pork fried rice and that hit the mark as well on a hot summery day. So much flavor and passion in this fast casual spot. TLDR; $20 for a bowl of dumpling noodle soup, and the only thing edible were 3 small pieces of Chinese BBQ pork and 5 dumplings. Neither of which were all that great. I'm a fan of Chinese dumplings of all sorts, so I was excited to have lunch here today. I went with the noodle soup with 5 pork and cabbage dumplings and added BBQ pork. A drink, tax, and tip... the bill was just shy of $20. Double what I'd usually spend on lunch, but what the heck. Unfortunately it was money wasted. The bowl had a faint scent of chicken, but the broth had no seasoning and tasted of tap water. The noodles had good texture, but no seasoning and tasted of sand. I suspect they were under-cooked. The dumplings were edible, but under seasoned. I could taste the pork and ginger, but the texture the cabbage could have lent was missing. As a result, the whole dumpling was a bit mushy. The fried version would undoubtedly be better. The BBQ pork was serviceable, but was done no favors being placed in the bowl getting whatever flavor it could have had diluted. I tried adding soy a bit at a time, but after adding and tasting my way through an entire packet of soy, I could tell the only flavor I was going to get out of the bowl was going to be the soy. It was just sad. It made me sad. read more

I'd like to start out by saying I enjoy the food here and they're great with online ordering or taking orders over the phone. However, I'm not sure I'll be returning following my experience today. I walked up to the counter to see one of the cooks working/sorting their tasty dumplings on a tray. He had his mask under his chin. I asked the person at the counter about what I was seeing. He turned and motioned with his hands to the cook. The cook took his gloved hands, that he was touching the food with, and put the mask on. There was no reassurance that this is not a regular occurrence. In fact, the cook looked annoyed that I said anything at all. Awesome restaurant in the Domain. My wife and I stumbled upon it for a Friday evening happy hour date night. The menu is so unique. Our server's recommendations were on point. She suggested the avocado toast for a starter and said I also couldn't wrong with the 5 spice wings I had my eye on. She was right. Both were fantastic. The avocado toast was like nothing I've ever had and the flavor and heat of the spicy wings was just right. Combined with the habanero ketchup for dipping, ridiculously good is a better description. We usually order different entrees so we can try each other's, but on this occasion, we both opted for the scallops. They were plump, juicy, and seared to perfection. Also, for such a bad meal, I spent around $35 total bill. What a waste & I usually am pretty forgiving of food I don't like, but this was a quality issue.
