Let me just say Uh no it was NOT fresh and the texture wasn't any special than the one I get from the frozen section. -Beef noodles- the broth was salty, I wouldn't say flavorful since no other flavor other than saltiness. -Fried egg noodles seafood was not crunchy and the seafood was salty and some were bland. My parents have been on the hunt for good Cantonese food in this area since they moved. I hadn't been to Lotus Garden for a long time, but saw some positive reviews on Vienna Foodies so suggested we give it a try. Everything was really good -- the only item that wasn't great is the beef in the hand-pulled noodles, but the noodles themselves and broth were tasty. We also enjoyed crispy walnut shrimp, two kinds of beef chow fun -- one dry stir-fried and one with gravy (generous portion), Kingdom pork chops (first place in the area that my mom says makes it right!). Went to try their noodle soup and wasn't disappointed. The shaved noodles had a great QQ texture and the clear broth it was served in was nice and simple. We ordered half a roast duck and it was fresh and delicious. My husband loves stuffed tofu dishes so we also tried their fried tofu with minced shrimp it was served with a sauce on the side, husband thought it was good. Authentic as it could ever get, even got ducks hanging through the glass windows. You can see the chef stringing out the noodles, they were so soft and I'm surprised with how thin it got, they didn't snap or break. Combination Lo mein- wasn't too oily or salty, I like my noodles hard and that's just what the noodles were like. Beef noodle soup- it's what kinda famous for along with their hand drawn noodles, if you get this, you'll know why it's famous. So order it! This is the go to spot for my coworkers and I for lunch. We always take any new employees and any other coworkers just visiting the office here for lunch. We usually get a big group together and head out for lunch. We order the same dish lol. You can tell by the photos attached. They're of the same dish but on various days. The roasted pork hand pulled noodles. It's always so good and hits our stomachs right. I love how they always give so much pork. The portions are huge. I add in hot sauce and it tastes amazing. Only downside is it takes a long time for them to prep your meal. Well at least for anything hand-pulled because um, they have to hand pull them. Makes sense. But it's well worth the wait. The workers here are very friendly and they're always making sure you're satisfied with your meal. They constantly refill your water cups and tea pot . Oooh I love tea. Their tea. Very good. There's a large glass window in the dining room that lets you see all the activities in the kitchen, the best one being, of course, the noodle preparation with much stretching, twisting, and cutting of the dough into delicious noodles. We went on a Friday evening, were given a table, and were ignored for quite some time, even though it didn't seem to be very full -- there were a couple large parties, and some other tables in use, but still several empty tables. We got menus, and were ignored for another quite-a-while. We ordered, including the Chrysanthemum Tea... the waitress said something about Jasmine Tea and hustled off before we could inquire whether that's what was really meant on the menu, or what. Either way, we didn't get even our tea (let alone food, though I realize duck soup takes a while) for a Very Long Time. The waitress did see us and remember something about tea after what seemed like at least half an hour... and still didn't bring it for what seemed like at least ten more minutes... and then it was, as far as I could tell, plain green tea. Eventually we did get our duck soup, and it was in fact very good, with fresh hand-pulled noodles and all. As you may have guessed, it was quite a long wait for the check after we were done, including trying for about five minutes to flag down a waitress. And in case you were wondering, as we had been... yes, the check still had the more expensive Chrysanthemum Tea on it. Might be worth going at some very off hour, or to pick up carryout . . . but I would not recommend it at all for dine-in at normal dinner times. read more

Ordered on Christmas Day and the food was so delicious! Hands down, the best take out egg roll I've ever had! The dumplings too, they were so juicy and flavorful that I didn't even dip them in the sauce! The portions were smaller than I'm accustomed to, so there weren't any leftovers (which I look forward to the next day) but otherwise, everything was perfect! Been coming here for awhile now and finally got the chance to write a review. Pretty authentic Chinese restaurant in the Vienna/Tysons area that specialize in hand pulled/shaved noodles. They are also pretty good with mainland china/cantonese dishes. I recommend to try their hand pulled or shaved noodle soups-- preferably their beef brisket. Their shaved noodles are literally shavings from a ball of dough that turns into "noodles" and are hand-shaved to order! I feel like the hand pulled noodles are better for the beef brisket soup. The noodles seems to be able to soak in the soup's flavors better than the shaved noodles. Also, they give you a generous portion of the beef brisket which was flavorful and pretty tender. This is my new favorite Asian restaurant and the only Chinese restaurant I like in this area. My boyfriend and I both ordered the pork pulled noodles. I ordered mine as a soup. For $5 more you can have them stir fry it as a entree. I'm not sure if they put more noodles or meat in it for the $5. It's okay because we both really enjoyed our food. I'm getting hungry writing this right now and I can't wait to go back. The freshly made noodles are delicious and you can even watch the cook make them through the window in the kitchen. Been ordering take out from Lotus Garden for many years and usually enjoy the quality food. But the appetizer of ribs, which is accompanied with pickled sticks of dakon and carrots as a garnish, has been awful the last couple of times. The garnish is the only part that has been enjoyable. I've consistently been told that the sliced noodles are better than the pulled noodles. So I got the roast duck sliced noodle. $8.95 = so cheap! The noodles were fresh and chewy. It was a lighter broth (read: tad bland?), but the roast duck was plenty salted. Not too lean, not too fatty. Boyfriend said it was better than the roast duck sliced noodle he tried last time he was here so it seems to be vary from time to time. To be hand-pulled, or not to be hand-pulled. That is the real question here Shakespeare. I knew this place was going to be good as soon as we walked in. The aroma that surrounded the restaurant caused my mouth to water and stomach to grumble even more than it had already been. Although a cool concept-- it didn't help that we could also watch the chefs prepare the noodles for the soups through a window. We started with the Crab Rangoon, and it was THE best crab rangoon I've ever had. I've had a fair share, but these were so flavorful to the point where they did not need sauce, perfectly crunchy on the outside, and oh-so creamy and delicious on the inside. I was able to try both the knife cut and hand pulled noodles, priced at $9.25 each. I personally prefer the knife-cut noodles with roast pork. The slices of noodles reminded me of what one would use to wrap wontons in, and both the noodles and broth were very flavorful. The roast duck soup with hand pulled noodles that I also tried on the other hand was just decently good, nothing special or memorable. The broth was lighter than the pork broth and a bit bland, while the hand pulled noodles were a bit chewier than the hand sliced noodles. This place makes me smile inside whenever I think of hand pulled noodle soup. Walking in, it's a fairy good size place. The Parking is kind of small, so be prepare to stalk people. I usually get the Duck hand pulled noodle soup. The broth is very flavorful, and it's on the light side so don't expect it to have huge amount of flavors, but they do have the chili sauce on the table and adding that makes it kick your mouth and adds a lot of more flavor. I love this place! A mixture of traditional and americanized dishes for everyone to enjoy. I got take out from here a handful of times and they've remained consistently delicious. They have a huge menu of a variety of dishes and I haven't really been disappointed so far. Their specialty is their noodle soup, where the noodles are hand made, which is super cool and rare. Even cooler is that they have this huge window looking into the kitchen where you can see them making the noodles and cooking the dishes! I would recommend eating the noodles in the restaurant though, as the takeout noodles are cold (they separate the noodle and the soup to avoid the noodles soaking up all the soup, but the soup is hot) and you should probably cook it oven top to make the flavors blend more before eating. One of my favorite dishes here is the walnut shrimp! A little pricey but they give good portion and it is absolutely delicious. The flavors complement each other well and the sauce is so delightfully creamy. One of our guilty pleasures is General Tso's and we usually get it when we order chinese takeout. I usually get questioned when I order it along with a bunch of traditional dishes but theirs is just the right amount of sweet and sour to the chicken with not too much breading and I really appreciate the dish! If you have had real Lanzhou hand pulled noodle, you will be disappointed. If you have had real Sichuan spicy food before, you will be disappointed. I am from the mid-western part of China, I know what real Lanzhou hand pulled noodle should taste. My guess is this restaurant is run by Cantonese or Fuzhouness, if you order beef chow fen or other southern style Chinese food, it might be really good. We were in Vienna and decided to stop by Lotus Garden to pick up dinner. To be honest, I'd still go out of my way to get their pulled noodle soup because it's that good! They offer a variety of protein options from chicken, pork, beef, duck, and even lamb. We went with the duck noodle soup and the beef noodle soup! Both were absolutely perfect. The duck soup was savory and just enough salty. The broth was a darker color and complimented the noodles well. I made sure to get slurp of both with every bite. I've had several instances where I show them a picture of the exact dish that i want and point at the chinese menu (in the plastic stand) and they bring me the wrong dish each time. There is only one chives, lotus root, fish with black bean sauce dish on the chinese menu and they bring out a chives dish with carrots, mushrooms, etc in white sauce and claim it was what I wanted. The chinese menu is a very very small menu and there is only ONE dish that I described and showed them a pic of. They ALWAYS get it wrong and put up a fight when I tell them I want the right dish. Today, I come with my family and my sister finds a piece of wire in her food. It was already on her plate, and she was about to eat it. When we showed the waitresses, there were no apologies whatsoever and only offered to replace the dish. We declined the replacement, and we sent the original one back. God knows what goes in that kitchen. It is absolutely unacceptable to find a wire in food, my sister could have seriously injured herself if she actually swallowed it. Lotus Garden is the only place in the DMV area (that I know of) that sells authentic sliced noodles, which are noodles sliced from a large mound of dough directly in to a pot of boiling water. It's a thicker noodle with a chewy texture, made fresh at the restaurant and it's so freaking good! Recommendations: - Sliced noodles with spare ribs or duck if you don't mind the bones! - Pungent and Spicy Beef Tripe as an appetizer, also comes with a bed of pickled radish that's addicting and goes well with the tripe - Spiced tofu is a good starter for vegetarians - Barbecue Platter 2 Selections for meat lovers who want more meat with their noodles (you get choices of roasted pork, roasted duck, soy chicken, etc.) Lotus is also a great place for a large dinner party, as they have tables that can seat 10. Service is good when there's not a lot of people, but can be a little chaotic if it's busy. Be patient as the sliced noodles are worth it! Mom knows her chinese food. Mom picked this place for our Mother's Day lunch for the family and while it's not the same as eating in Taiwan or China, it comes close. We ordered Kung pao beef, black pepper scallops, combination Lo mein, steamed cod fish, combo meat platter of duck, pork and spareribs, and tofu with stuffed crab in egg sauce. It's a good thing we all skipped breakfast cause all five of us devoured everything. My favorite dishes were the scallops which were served over broccoli in a black pepper sauce as well as the combo meat platter. If you're a meat lover, get the platter; it's nothing but pieces of roasted duck and pork along with sparerib meat. There are bones so be weary of that. The scallops were delicious: crispy yet tender. The stuffed tofu with crab was also delicious: tasted like a chinese stuffed seafood biscuit. The Kung pao beef and lot mein was decent, nothing special. The steamed cod fish was tasty but it is a whole fish head and tails included so bones are in the fish. You may be grossed out by the head and tail involved but the taste is there. Don't choke on the bones! Service was very slow but it was Mother's Day and they only had three servers. Plus no hostess, no food runners, and no bussing crew so the servers did everything. While it took time to get things up to speed, the food was worth it. I'll have to come back and try their other dishes as they have some exotic items to try from. This is a nice "hole in the wall" joint so don't miss out on it! read more

My husband and I are regulars at this place. Today I decided to finally review it. I have to say this is one of our favorite places to go to for Chinese food. Their hand pulled noodle soups are amazing! Noodles are hand pulled to order in house, you can actually see the pulling process through the kitchen window which is pretty entertaining. Soups are full of flavor, lots of noodles and with a good amount of meat. So far we tried almost all of the protein options - beef, beef and pork tripe, seafood (not my favorite one), duck (delicious!) and spare ribs. My favorite is the beef and my husband's go to is the tripe.  But today we went the other route - we ordered sautéed calamari with veggies and spicy fried shrimp with no shell. Both dishes were absolutely delicious! We left out plates nice and clean... It doesn't happened that often. Calamari was tender, juicy and paired perfectly with (I believe) garlic sauce with mixed snow peas, carrots, chives and mushrooms. Fried shrimp was golden and crunchy outside and juicy and flavorful inside and it was a good size portion. Shrimp was topped with jalapeño and fried onion mix, which was not too spicy. Overall, as I said both dishes were very tasty.  We came in around 6:30 pm on Friday night, the parking lot was somewhat empty so we expected to see an empty restaurant. To our surprise the place was almost at full capacity. However, we got seated right away and were served complimentary tea and roasted peanuts. Food arrived pretty quickly as well. At the end of the meal they serve you a check with a slice of orange and a fortune cookie. Since it was not our first time I guess I don't have to mention that we will be coming back to this place in the near future. I came here to try the beef chow foon. The overall flavor was delicious. It had the smoky flavor from the wok and the soy sauce seasoning was very good. Noodles were cooked perfectly and coated evenly with the sauce. The level of preparation, however, was below average. The onions were unevenly sliced. Some were so big and thick that they literally tasted raw, and chewing raw onion in your mouth is not fun. Disclaimer: I have not tried any of their other dishes. But the main reason I won't be back is because the beef was very low grade. You know what I mean, when you order Chinese food and the meat doesn't taste real. The texture is just off. And for this reason alone, I wouldn't want to try any of their poultry or seafood dishes. If you're looking for a good Chinese spot with high quality meat, drive a few extra minutes to Tysons Corner.
