Breakfast is big on our vacation menu and we love to try all the local places. That said, I don't think any of the local whitefish breakfast places are that great. Good? Sure. Great? Not really. Loula's is no exception. Good food, but the wait is ridiculous. Get a reservation system people. Really crazy that you show up at 7AM and are told it's an hour or more wait and they don't take reservations. Food was okay. The food is exquisite, as our their fresh baked pies and I had one of the best chai tea lattes with oatmilk.

It was very busy, which is generally a good sign. We read a few reviews ahead of time and had confidence. We ended up at the bar which was a little cramped. I was at the end where it formed an 'L' behind me. They use that end as a prep/staging area. Throughout my meal at any moment I could expect the loud CRASH of trays of clean or dirty dishes being hastily tossed onto the counter a mere 2' behind me. Across the bar we faced a pathway and the soda fountain along with the ice bin and a small under the counter refrigerator. Multiple times throughout our meal people would get things out of or put things into the small fridge. Every time this happened they would bend at the waste and point their ass at us literally less than 1' away from my food. The food came pretty quick after ordering considering how busy they were, 15-20 minutes. We each got a medley type dish. Sadly, the potatoes were very over done and just shy of actually burnt. Otherwise it was passable, nothing special, barely average. I'd give it another chance but only if it were much less busy. They didn't handle the rush well at all. read more

This is our third vacation trip to Whitefish, MT, and Loula's has become an institution for us. The last visit I got the Special breakfast with Huckleberry/Raspberry coffee cake, and it was delicious! Heavenly! Coffee was not great but hot refills kept on coming. Portions are very good for what you pay. Such a great breakfast spot! The staff was incredibly kind to us and set my little boys up with everything they needed without me even having to ask . Yelp recommend so I had to go while I was in town. MAKE RESERVATIONS, even for breakfast! Great old building, cool space but a little loud. I don't know if there's an elevator so be careful because it is in a basement. A very nice basement. The guy who greeted us was a bit cranky but I am glad we kept a stiff upper lip and stayed despite him. Our waitress was lovely and attentive even though she was running her but off. Our food was amazing, really stellar. I only wish we lived in the area to bring home a pot pie for dinner. Pricing was reasonable for the quality. You will not be disappointed! read more

It was fresh and had a nice crumb but lacked any depth of flavor in the crumb or in the filling. More butter and a browner crust would've done wonders! It was also a bit too sweet. More disappointingly, their "famous" Huckleberry cherry pie didn't really showcase the true taste of the namesake berry that the region is famous for. read more

The kind of place that you love so much you end up go back to every day of your vacation! I'll start off by saying breakfast is my favorite meal of the day and Loula's did not disappoint! I went on a first date here almost a year ago, and we're still together today, so shout out to Loula's for being that cafe. It was morning and the place was packed, so there was a 10 minute wait, and we waited in the back. I was a little nervous for the first date, so I microdosed some mushrooms for social lubricant and to better relate. We were seated and I got coffee, she got juice. Immediately I noticed she had a nice caboose. It was her eyes though that drew me in and kept me loose. We both ordered the eggs Benedict off of her suggestion, as both had that predilection, and soon the conversation flowed in such a direction that it was like we had know each other before and in each other, saw much reflection. Naturally I got a mini erection. We finished our food, well at least I did mine. Of hers she ate half, then the rest I imbibed. Great meals! I had the breakfast enchilada. Interesting twist on the breakfast burrito. Spicy enough to be interesting but not so hot that it would be uncomfortable for those unused to spicy food. Wife had the daily special, basically bread pudding with bacon. Always an adherent to "bacon improves anything " and this proves it. Service was prompt and attentive but never annoying. We've been eating at Loula's for over 20 years and it's always good and consistent. Breakfast and lunch are both good but the pie is the star of the show there. They have about 15 different pies and all are wonderful! This last trip we had the huckleberry/cherry and the huckleberry/blackberry warmed with vanilla ice cream and although both were great, we both preferred the huckleberry/cherry. The breezy bistro showcases local art and photography, and we quite enjoyed sitting and chatting with the natural light streaming through the windows and the smell of coffee in the air. The food is affordable, the service is great, and it's a pleasant way to spend a morning all around. The Breakfast Enchilada was a mixed bag. The smoky sauce was great, but I could have done with more of it. The hashbrowns, boasting a molten and buttery consistency with a crispy crust were some of the finest I've ever had. The green peppers and cheese were high-quality, but the sausage was grisly, chewy, and under-seasoned. My accompanying grits were fantastic, perfectly salted and surprisingly savory, perhaps due to the addition of chicken broth? The Bighorn Plate came with some buttered toast, eggs, and potatoes with cheese. Fairly standard but well executed. At the urging of our waitress, we topped our meal off with a blackberry and peach pie and it was indeed delicious. Over the past few years I've been fortunate enough to visit WY and MT, but I've been somewhat disappointed overall with the food, not the people or the states, they've always been super polite and friendly, it's just, the food?!?!? It's always either been too bland or too salty for this Texas boy......but, not this place. It delivers. You get so few opportunities to eat out while vacationing, so you seldom want to visit the same place twice. I mean, why would you? Get out and experience new places to eat, ammirite? But this place was an exception. It was simply that good. We went during off season and it was still crowded, but so so worth it. My only "complaint" and I'm being somewhat liberal here is that their grits seem to have been pureed? That took some of the gritty texture you want in grits. By the time it hit the table it was very close to mashed potatoes texture. Still rolling out the five stars for the flavor, which was spot on, maybe just not what I was expecting? While I had their lemon stuffed French toast one morning I went with the smothered hash browns a few days later. Both were very VERY good. Which one you should order will really depend on your mood. If you have a bit of a sweet tooth and you're looking to carb load before a day of hiking/skiing the French toast seems appropriate. If you want something to stick to your ribs and remind you of a fantastic country breakfast, the smothered is hard to beat. Can't recommend enough. read more
