As a temporarily transplanted New Mexican, I'm constantly missing the real chile dishes from home. There's nothing like it, plenty of wannabes, but you only really know unless you *know*. I was beyond excited when I discovered this gem, and I dragged my friend (another NM transplant, albeit a permanent one) with me to check it out. I didn't tell him where we were going, but he wasn't the least bit surprised to see a NM flag hanging in front of the entrance. We started our meal with the green chile queso. This stuff was amazing and I'd buy it by the gallon if they sold it that way! Smother it on anything you can. I'm not kidding. On. Everything. We each got red chile dishes - him the carne adovada and I got the pork enchiladas. Unfortunately, neither of us cared too much for the chile flavoring. It's hard to describe, but it had a sweet taste to it, so I'd be willing to bet that there was tomatoes in the recipe and that is definitely *not* used in NM red chile. Adding some salt and mixing everything on our plates together helped a bunch. Was it terrible? Not even close. It really wasn't bad - at all. I'm just a NM food snob and am a traditionalist when it comes to chile (i.e. less is more with the seasonings and add-ins). The pork meat was super tender and tasty and the frijoles were pretty good as well. That queso though... *drool* We will definitely be returning to try some dishes with green chile. Judging by the drool-worthy queso, we're betting that we may like the green chile dishes better. We each had some beers, but I was disappointed that considering how large their beer selection was, there were only 2 from NM. I'd rate this place a 4.5 if half stars were allowed, but the customer service we received was outstanding. Being from England, I'm used to having a local community pub around the corner and some great grub where you know the owners and staff and seeing the same faces having a great time with some fun banter! After 17 years in the valley, honestly I've found my 'local' I'm a fan of spicy food and New Mexican food and their green chilli burrito is amazing, the burger, just great food. The beer selection is vast, be it draft or togo! I can't say enough about the place, love the community tables too! Cheers! read more

You really can't go wrong with Lovecraft. Order what your heart, soul and palate guide you to. That said, if you are feeling indecisive or possibly craving soup, then take a walk on the wild, yet comforting side and give the Posole with carne adovada a whirl. Know that it's for lovers of spice and brings the heat, but it's a balanced and delicious, heart warming heat. I've said it before and will again - it just might be the cure for the common cold, at least I'm hoping so. Either way, it definitely has therapeutic effects! So happy to see it back on the Fall/Winter menu. read more

We walked in and thought this place is to loud. Thought we would give it a try and just stay for a drink since my niece recommended it. A bit eclectic but glad we stayed. Food was really good. We all ended up having posole as an appetizer (diffrent smoked meats) as well as the stacked enchiladas. Pork and briskets we smoked to perfection and sauces we homemade as well. We all had the same desserts but probably tween the rich meal and desserts we will pass on dessert next time. This building has been around forever and I think has had several different identities. This place feels like a keeper!! We had a celebration here, and they were very accommodating to our party of 12. Several of us had not eaten here before and we were all interested in the different options the menu offers. On a Saturday night, they also offered a 16oz smoked prime rib dinner. A friend and I split the prime rib special. It was served with mashed potatoes and grilled asparagus. The prime rib was ordered as medium rare, and it was indeed served appropriately. The meat was very moist, had a nice smokey flavor without being too much and the side dishes of beans and mashed potatoes were also quite tasty. They did also include a side of jus and some horseradish sauce. Both sauces were good, and were not necessary to make the meat have good flavor. One of our peeps ordered the green chili mac and cheese. The serving was quite big and it did have a nice green chili flavor with the creamy mac and cheese. There drink menu is quite extensive in the area of beer and wine. If you are a beer and wine fan, you'll be able to find something to please your thirst. Our server, Karen (?) was awesome! Even when our water bottles ran low, she was replacing. She was also kind enough to split our checks (do let them know at the beginning of your service though...makes it easier for everyone). In the back are of the cozy place, there is a ping pong table and Foosball. Cool vibe, unique (yet familiar) menu, extensive beer and wine options, and not your usual cookie cutter restaurant. I still think this is a great restaurant but the meal my wife and I had last night was terrible. It's the only bad thing I've had there but it was literally gross - we both thought so. It was the prime rib on a wedge with balsamic dressing. The meat was ground up and tasted terrible. The whole combination was bad. Apps and drinks were good though. read more

I wish we would have been told about this place sooner! Our neighbors mention the other day that they cam here and really liked it, so we dropped in yesterday afternoon for an impromptu bite to eat. We had the "Let it Fly" lager and the WhiteHaven sauvignon blanc to drink. My husband had the green chili stew, and the tiramisu for dessert. I had a piece of the tortilla that came with the stew, and it was one of the best, most-authentic tasting tortilla I have ever had, outside of the ones our nanny used to make. I had the Super-Food salad with poppy seed dressing. All of the food and drink were good. The place is laid back and the decor is fun. The pricing is reasonable. We really appreciated our server, JAKE. He was one of our favorite aspects of the visit -- very helpful, prompt, checked back all the time, etc. He didn't miss a beat. Had high hopes for this place. Came for Father's Day. Too bad really, they have the concept and style right (fried egg on entree's). But fail on execution. Bland guacamole and chips to start and the salsas are awful. Then what I came here for, Carne Adovada, ruined. Served in a bowl like birria??? With cloves??? Greasy tortillas to boot. Pros: They have pretty decent beer. Almost all of the staff I have interacted with there are very friendly and helpful. Their beer cooler is small but there are some good finds in there. They have a good bike rack in clear view of everyone in the bar, so you can ride your bike and not worry so much about it getting stolen. Cons: Their food is wildly overpriced for what you get. I have had a couple negative interactions with one person in particular. They aren't dog friendly. There isn't a patio. I really love that the owner is trying to revitalize this neighborhood, since most of what's around is dive bars and fast food. I haven't been in a while, but I plan to go back soon to give the place another shot. All in all, it's worth a shot. read more

This may be my new favorite place! We went to Lovecraft last night -- a Friday around 6:30 -- for dinner. It was busy, but we were able to sit right away. Excellent tap list Relaxed & modern ambience Fantastic, 5-star service Incredible food My mouth is starting to water now just remembering our meals. We started with the jalapeño poppers, which are stuffed with a cream cheese mixture, wrapped in bacon and drizzled with BBQ sauce. For entrees, we got the brisket in the Lovecraft tacos (guacamole and creamy coleslaw). Unreal. The brisket is 12-hour smoked and phenomenal. They also make salsa in-house. The spicier green salsa was so good, we took a pint of it home (they sell it!). We also ordered the brisket on the Texas BBQ Hawaiian bun meal. It also comes with the creamy coleslaw and a delicious, perfectly sweet BBQ sauce. We can't wait to return!! read more

In the last few months I have visited this little restaurant 4 times. I am not close by. I am over 40 minute away by car. But I will travel for Lovecraft every chance I get. We first visited for my husband and I's anniversary, I again visited for happy hour with friends, then a random Sunday afternoon, and recently for a pick up order for Fathers Day. Each time the restaurant was at a different level of business. But something notable was what never changed. And that was how friendly and kind the staff was, how delicious the food was, and how clean the restaurant is. I am a fan. That may actually be an understatement because if you talk to me about food I have recently eaten, I will tell you about everything I have eaten at Lovecraft with a crazed passion. I dream about the bacon wrapped jalapeno's when I should be paying attention to zoom calls. I think about the perfect balance of creamy cheesiness and spicy green chiles in the green chile mac and cheese when I should be watching my step on the stairs. When I want a delightful sandwich, I immediately crave the the juicy prime rib sandwich and the crispy fries it comes with. I have had the buttermilk fried chicken and the Chimichanga and I would tell you that regardless of what you choose off this menu, you will be happy. I may be drooling just thinking about all of the wonderful options. The staff is friendly, thoughtful and knowledgeable. If you haven't been to Lovecraft, do yourself a favor and go. It's delicious. The vibe is dark, cool and welcoming. A rooftop patio is in the works. Good service with many adroit workers in a smaller space--the very friendly owner has even helped us a couple times at the bar. Absolutely love LOVECRAFT! To be able to get authentic New Mexican style food in our neighborhood is a real treat. I really like the concept of this place and even though it's more of a bar it's really a great restaurant too. The combination of the smoked meats and the great red and green sauce is a winning combination. There aren't many places that have authentic New Mexican style red sauce but LOVECRAFT has definitely done it! Their food is extremely flavorful and cooked to perfection. The staff and servers are always friendly and welcoming and really strive to make your dining and drinking experience very pleasurable. I'm not a big drinker but the beer I've had there has been very good. The table next to us arrived after us and received their meal before we left. They arrived 39 minutes after we did. The restaurant was not very busy. Came here on a random weeknight. I was surprised by how busy it was! The parking lot is tiny and kind of awkward. I liked the concept of the community dining, however we didn't partake in that this time around. There was only one waitress working her butt off, so we did have to wait a little bit. Anything can be made vegetarian here with a choice of mushrooms, however very few things could be made vegan. We ordered the two kinds of veggie tacos and the nachos. The nachos were SO good, even without the cheese. If you like mushrooms, its definitely a good dish. The mushrooms were quite large, so if you're veg and not a fan of mushrooms, this isn't your place. My friend is a meat eater..she got the sliders. She loved them so much, she ordered them all over again in one sitting. They had a great selection of drinks. Plenty of games in the back. The music was a bit loud, on top of other people's convo, it was hard to hear each other. In terms of vegan options, this place is not a win. My family and I went for dinner tonight. When we walked in we had to wait 4 minutes for someone to greet us. This person asked me in these words ( What do you want.). She caught me by surprise that anyone would ask me such a question. I ask her if they were serving dinner. She said how many and then said you could sit over there and pointed to a table. Now I've been there before and told her I prefer to sit in the back that annoyed her. That was the last I saw that server which was a good thing. We order from the menu and the server says we ran out of chicken. It would have been nice if they mentioned that before we ordered. We ordered the short rib nachos and let her know the last time we ordered it it came out cold. Of course when it came out it was cold. Further more I ask for chips and salsa before the meal and they charged 8$. Will never go back but I'm sure the don't care. read more

I really wanted to like this place. I love cider and the NM food sounded interesting. But it needs some tweaks. First of all, IT IS SO FREAKING LOUD INSIDE! There is not one soft surface. It wasn't music or TV that was loud, it was just voices. I had to ask the order person to step to the side so I could hear. I also kept having to lean across the table to hear my dining companion. The tables are close so everyone was talking loud to be heard over everyone else. It was a Friday night and busy. The ordering system is not good either, although they are trying. Having to order everything at once or face standing in line again is not good. And then to eat enchiladas in a deep tin with plastic forks was awkward. Coolest new spot in a tired, old neighborhood. The area definitely needs something with personality, and Lovecraft brings that in spades. Definitely a weird little gem that's worth the time to check out. They have a fantastic beer menu that's constantly shifting (they change to something new every single keg, so don't get too attached to a beer) so variety is the spice of life! The food is fantastic, with a New Mexico spin on tapas style dishes. I've met most of the staff and the owner, all of whom are down-to-Earth, helpful, and really friendly.
