I had been craving Luby's for a while, as it had been a few months since my last visit. With a $6 Luann coupon in my hand and some business to take care of in the I-20 / Hwy 67 area, I decided to head over to the S. Hampton location on Friday (9/19) for what I expected to be a great meal. Sadly, I never even made it to my table. My visit got off to a slow start when I was ignored at the salad station. There was an employee in the process of setting up the station (I got in line about a minute after their 11 AM opening) and she did look up at me when I approached. For some reason, though, she chose not to say anything to me. She filled up a container then walked away. She even came back with another item, filled up that container, and walked away again without so much as saying a word. The waiting itself did not bother me as I could see she was getting the last of the items ready to go. But to not, at a minimum, acknowledge the fact that I was waiting was downright rude. After about two minutes, another employee came over and greeted me in a very friendly and welcoming manner. This was followed by a meat station employee who was extremely friendly and courteous as well. She also profusely apologized for the fact that I would not be able to get fried chicken for lunch since their fryer was broken. The outright genuineness of these two employees made me immediately dismiss being ignored just a moment prior. I just chalked it up as one of those flukes that was not indicative of how well a location treats their customers. Unfortunately, I still had to interact with the cashier. At the cashier station, the cashier was talking with what appeared to be a manager leaning against a table nearby. He was talking about having to write up some employees and was asking her some questions that she was answering. This conversation continued as I waited for her to ring up my order and give me a total so I could pay. Finally, she told me my total was $11.47. Wait, what? The only thing on my tray was the $6 Luann Plate and an Ice Tea. I know restaurant drinks are expensive these days, but not that expensive. I questioned the total and reminded her about the coupon. She told me that she had already entered the coupon and reiterated my total. I looked at her funny and started to mention a $6 coupon and an ice tea couldn't possibly be that much. Before I even mentioned the tea, she retorted that I didn't need to yell at her. While I admit that I do have a loud voice in general, and that the pitch of my voice went up slightly when I started to mention the coupon yet again, I was still very much in a normal conversation tone. Had I been yelling, the employee back at the salad station would have heard it. As it was, another employee close by continued on her way without even looking up. Even the manager leaning against the nearby table didn't budge. I stated to the cashier that I wasn't yelling, to which she replied that yes, I was. I asked for my coupon back, which she refused to give me. I told her that I was leaving, took my coupon back, and left the building. The manager who was leaning against the nearby table did not say a single word, either to her or to me. It's a shame that the genuine kindness of two employees can be overshadowed by the rudeness of two other employees. While the baked chicken I ended up ordering looked delicious, I never got to taste it or any of the other food I ordered, so I can't rate this Luby's on food quality. I can say that the food at the south Arlington location was delicious, however, since I drove straight there after leaving this location. And the service at that location was genuine and super friendly from start to finish. read more

Pretty good and flavorful food. I had the liver with onions and it was very tasty. I was having a hard time choosing my sides because they all looked delicious. I went with the mashed potatoes and green beans, needless to say they were pretty darn good . read more

Okay, I'm going to start by saying that this Luby's location is usually my "go to" when I'm not cooking. I've been happy, most of the time with my selections and the service. But this evening was quite off-putting. I requested the liver entree, the amount that the lady dished up was Pitiful. I asked if that was all she was going to me and she replied " this is the normal serving. Again, not my first rodeo - so I told her "I don't want that, I'll get something else". This Lady gave me the nastiest under-eyed look you guys - "if looks could kill". Of course, I ignored her and proceeded To finish my order. And to top it all off my black-eyed peas tasted like they just poured them out of a can - no seasoning what-so-ever. This did not go over well with me at all, so I'll definitely Call the manager ASAP. (I tried to call this evening but no one answered). Consistency is key! read more

Passing through and happened upon this Luby's. The food was great and the service was even better! Our waitress, Mrs. Barbara, was amazing. I would make the 2-hour trip from my house back just to eat here and see Mrs. Barbara again!! read more

2nd visit at this location. Staff provides superb service. Food is good, but served cold. I dined in during both visits and can't understand why the food was extremely cold. Is there a problem with the steam table? If so, they need to invest in one fast!! read more

The lazy service personnel explains the poor ratings. The customers while there were not much better, but the employees were awful. The food is not that great here, but do not expect service while patronizing this establishment. This does not meet Luby's standards, but it does have potential. Oh how I miss Luby's. We went on a Saturday around noon and the line was fast moving and they were preparing the food right in front of us. Of course, I'm sad that there is no more blue jello, but the were kind enough to put my football game on the nearby TV. read more

Had a not so good meal. They didn't have today special (liver). How can you say an hour wait when you just opened and we're 4th in line. My broccoli was raw. My husband's black eye peas were hard. The cabbage was raw. Last time visiting this establishment! I didn't send it back because it was very disappointing. read more

Contrary to the old reviews on Yelp, I found this Luby's today to have friendly, attentive customer service. Every employee I encountered at lunch was warm and ready to please, but not annoyingly so. Our food was as good as at any Luby's I've visited (likely over a dozen). Our fish and chicken entrees tasted fresh, well-seasoned, and delicious. The sides were good, perhaps with the exception of the fried okra, which was a little soggy and too salty for my taste. The apple pie was fantastic! Overall, the place was very clean, well lit (but not harshly), friendly, and comfortable. Because of the good food and service, I will likely be back regularly. read more

Avoid this place at all costs! I was in the drive-through line for 25 minutes on a Sunday at 3 PM. Then when I finally got to the front of the line they asked me what was it that I ordered? Ridiculous. I just don't understand why national management would allow this to continue. read more

I don't like leaving negative reviews but my experience here was so bad that I simply have to warn other users. Wish I'd consulted Yelp before entering the drive-thru lane... if I had, I would saved myself a whole bunch of time. This place is woefully understaffed. There were about 5 cars in front of me and it took 40 MINUTES to get served!!! The whole point of a drive-thru is speed and convenience!!! And to make matters worse, the staff have dreadful service skills. Avoid at all costs. read more

At first I thought this would be a great place to eat. The only sign with a price was marked $9.89 for one entree and three sides, which had a picture of prime rib on it. Well I know better to not get a steak from under a heat lamp but for that price, I figured I'd get steak instead of chick fried stuff or plan old chicken. BUYERS BEWARE!!! The advertised price is not what you pay. The biggest kick in the teeth was the Blan food I over paid for. The meat wasn't seasoned and was dry and the food wasn't seasoned. Do yourself a favor for less money go downtown to the city hall bistro and pay less for an upscale Mediterranean style meal. read more

I came here for breakfast, food is cold , toast is way to buttery our sausage wasn't well cooked. the potatoes were way to salty.

This was such a disappointment, the chicken fried steak was not cooked all the way. The gravy tasted like flour. The jello tasted like old lady perfume. Even the Brussels sprouts were really old and tasted like they sat there for ever. We couldn't even finish it and left it, sad. Will never go back there again. read more
