Charco Broiler is an Oak Cliff tradition. It's most recognizable for its giant bull sitting on the roof inviting you in for some down-home steaks. There are no white table cloths, it's not going to win any Michelin stars and won't be a destination for out of towners, but it gets 5-stars from me for one big reason. VALUE! Their food is hearty, tastes great, the wait staff is friendly and their prices are great. I had their Country Fried Steak Dinner, which came with a large Chicken Fried Steak, cream gravy, baked potato, side salad, toast, and a soft drink. Total cost $14.05. That's unheard of in Dallas where a burger and beer will often cost you $25 (or more). Look for the giant bull on the roof outside and their good food and great values inside. read more

You get what you pay for and that is STEAK. Delicious! Not thick but 8oz. cooked perfect! Enormous baked potato. Limited offerings and it's zero fancy, but if you want a great steak without paying fancy prices, this is the place to go! We are from Chicago and we loved it. My fiancé introduced me to this cute steakhouse perfect for date night lunch or family oriented. It is BYOB and the customer service was excellent positive vibes. I loved the variety of music ambiance , steak was so good even though I got well done that's what I prefer. The house salad was fresh, the baked potato was very soft and delicious. Stopped by on a Thursday evening around 7pm and there was no wait. I like the dedicated parking lot to the side of the building and also across the alley. Lots of parking. You order in front and go down the line to grab your salad. It's in the coolers behind the food line - odd. Salad is iceberg lettuce and you put which ever toppings you want. They had carrots, red onion, purple cabbage, and cucumbers. They also have hard boiled eggs which cost an extra $0.75. No tomato. Dressings: bleu cheese, ranch, Italian, and possibly one more I can't think of. The steak was ok. It was cooked the way I asked but lacked flavor. Even with the steak sauce it still tasted bland. The plate comes with a baked potato with about half a stick of butter. No joke. We sat in the banquet room for a birthday gathering and the service was great. Our plates were brought out to us pretty quick. We had a lady coming out to refill our drinks and take our plates/trays as we finished our meal. Super basic and easy steak. My family of 4 came in for lunch on a Saturday and we were able to order easily. We had 3 6oz. Sirloin steaks and a chicken fried chicken. Each entree came with a side salad and a baked potato. I liked that you were able to pick what you wanted on your salad because of the salad bar. The servers behind the bar were attentive and made sure we were well taken care of even before we paid and took our seats. There was plenty of seating and the dining room was spacious. There was country music playing and tvs on, but nothing was so loud that we couldn't hear each other when talking at our normal volume. We never ran out of our drinks and our food was served quickly. Like I mentioned, the food was simple, but you rarely get that anymore. The steaks were flame broiled (like Burger King burgers) to the exact temperature we asked for. They don't season them heavily, but have plenty of condiments and seasonings at the table for you to choose from to make your steak your own. The baked potatoes were a great size and baked through nicely so they were soft and warm. They are served with butter, but they have cheese, sour cream, bacon bits, and other things you can put on your potato if you want. Super customizable. After seeing this place over the years, I had wanted to try them out for the longest time. The problem is this: we live in North Carrollton and the restaurant is in Oak Cliff. For us, that means going on a Saturday. I'm glad we finally made it down. It's located in a tired looking but still proud part of town. Unfortunately, the restaurant is a bit tired and faded, but don't let the looks of the place deter you. All of the dinners come with a fresh salad and a big baked potato and Texas toast. My wife had ordered the chopped steak and I ordered the ribeye. Both came out quickly and were cooked perfectly to order. As a side note, the steaks were not seasoned but salt and pepper took care of that. The ribeye was so tender and juicy with great charcoal flavor. Came here after visiting the zoo. Our friend heard good things about it... my husband got the 1/2lb burger, my fiend and I got the grilled chicken special (which comes with a salad, baked potato and piece of Texas toast) and we got 2 kid chicken nugget meals. Other reviews were accurate when they said it is kind of "cafeteria style" as you get to pick up a bowl of lettuce and get to pick out toppings. The seating was larger than I thought. Initially we thought it was just the ordering area with a few booths but we ended up discovering the side room with plenty of large tables. I thought the food was good. Chicken was really tender and flavorful. Kids inhaled their nuggets and fries. (Nuggets reminded me of McDonald's nuggets). Prices were higher than expected but I was basing it off the photos we saw on Yelp. With inflation, the grilled chicken was $11.99 (from $8-something), the 1/2lb burger was $11.49 and kids meals were $4.79 (from $3-something). Staff were friendly. Charco Broiler Steak House is definitely in my top ten when it comes to steakhouses. They're not super fancy or over the top but they make damn good food at a reasonable price. I've had both their 10ozribeye and 10oz sirloin both were tasty and well prepared their chicken fried steak is good as well but is a bit small for the price and we've also had their crispy fried chicken sandwich which was amazing. They have some tasty desserts as well. my only complaint would be that they are a bit inconsistent sometimes when it comes to food preparation but everybody makes mistakes and charco broiler Steakhouse is no exception but their willingness to go over and Beyond to correct any mistakes is what lands them a High five and a well earned 4 star review in my opinion. This is a very homey, familial restaurant and that's probably why I would come back here. I got a 1/2 lb burger. The combo comes with a drink and a side. The burger was good-ish, like a 3.5/5.0 for me. The combo was kind of priced higher than I would have liked on the menu, but when I got my check it was actually lower than what I had seen it priced to be. I'm not sure if that was a mistake or if someone did me a nice favor, but I did appreciate the lower price. The interior was much bigger than I had expected. The restaurant however is located right off of Jefferson, which is a pretty busy street so parking there can be tough. And when backing out of your parking spot off the street, you've really got to watch out for cars. The staff was very friendly. Like, more friendly than the average place, and that is the reason why I'm giving this place the 4 stars. When you first walk in the restaurant they have a bell that says "ring me if you enjoyed the food" and unfortunately I wasn't able to ring it because I wasn't impressed. The customer service was pretty decent but the food on the other hand was a different story. I ordered the fried shrimp with French fries and it lacked so much seasoning. They didn't season nothing on my plate, only thing I can say I enjoyed was the bread. Everything was fried to perfection but if there's one improvement it'll be add seasoning and lots of it to make the dish have not only the perfection but the taste I know it needed, at least for my experience. The restaurant itself is small but has lots of seating, they have two sections of seating and you sit yourself and the employees will give you a number and bring the food to your table when it's ready. Hi there. I don't ever leave these reviews, so for me to be compelled to write one the situation has to be pretty bad. Food was completely different than the previous times that we have eaten there. It seems like there must have been a management or staff change, or possibly, someone is freaking out about food cost in the most horrible ways. The salads were different having cut tomatoes instead of great with less salad, and a stingy one tomato slice on the salad, though it was calculatedly placed. The steak was the thinnest I've ever seen it. And to top it off it was almost gray is there someone had thrown the poor guy on a grill that was not hot enough to provide an accurate seer. The condiments were also counted as specificity. The cake was a considerably smaller slice. It was just so disappointing because we thought we had finally found a go to restaurant for weeknights and steak cravings. It was quality food for the price point you were paying your stand. It was definitely just a run-of-the-mill, could've made it at home, mid-grade cut, steak. But that's what me and it was done with here and it was perfect. Now it's just lame. The steak is not as good. The portions suck. The seasoning sucks. The whole thing just made me very sad. From my experience this could only be. 1. State your food choice, move down to slightly wilted salad that you can add a few toppings, with minimal dressing choices. Get your drink or maybe a large slice of pie. We were then told to sit anywhere which was booth or table and the very friendly server filled our glasses. It is an older part of town and there was plenty of parking in the side and back of the restaurant. Look for the cow on the roof. Not the cleanest place, but a nice local place that did not cost a lot. Looks like the locals come by often and there was seating for groups.
