[[HIGHLIGHT]]Charco Broiler is an Oak Cliff tradition. It's most recognizable for its giant bull sitting on the roof inviting you in for some down-home steaks.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]There are no white table cloths, it's not going to win any Michelin stars and won't be a destination for out of towners, but it gets 5-stars from me for one big reason. VALUE![[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Their food is hearty, tastes great, the wait staff is friendly and their prices are great. I had their Country Fried Steak Dinner, which came with a large Chicken Fried Steak, cream gravy, baked potato, side salad, toast, and a soft drink. Total cost $14.05. That's unheard of in Dallas where a burger and beer will often cost you $25 (or more). [[HIGHLIGHT]]Look for the giant bull on the roof outside and their good food and great values inside.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]

Charco Broiler is a staple in Oak cliff. I've been going since I was a little girl and it never disappoints. This is the place to get more bang for your buck! This particular visit, I had the steak & shrimp, it came with a baked potato & a salad. The steak was perfect! We got there just before the lunch rush so we didn't wait too long for our food. [[HIGHLIGHT]]This place brings me nostalgia with its old time feel![[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]

Stopped by on a Thursday evening around 7pm and there was no wait. I like the dedicated parking lot to the side of the building and also across the alley. Lots of parking. You order in front and go down the line to grab your salad. It's in the coolers behind the food line - odd. Salad is iceberg lettuce and you put which ever toppings you want. They had carrots, red onion, purple cabbage, and cucumbers. They also have hard boiled eggs which cost an extra $0.75. No tomato. Dressings: bleu cheese, ranch, Italian, and possibly one more I can't think of. The steak was ok. It was cooked the way I asked but lacked flavor. Even with the steak sauce it still tasted bland. The plate comes with a baked potato with about half a stick of butter. No joke. We sat in the banquet room for a birthday gathering and the service was great. Our plates were brought out to us pretty quick. We had a lady coming out to refill our drinks and take our plates/trays as we finished our meal. Decent experience but I wouldn't return unless there's another family gathering.

After seeing this place over the years, I had wanted to try them out for the longest time. The problem is this: we live in North Carrollton and the restaurant is in Oak Cliff. For us, that means going on a Saturday. I'm glad we finally made it down. It's located in a tired looking but still proud part of town. Unfortunately, the restaurant is a bit tired and faded, but don't let the looks of the place deter you. All of the dinners come with a fresh salad and a big baked potato and Texas toast. My wife had ordered the chopped steak and I ordered the ribeye. Both came out quickly and were cooked perfectly to order. As a side note, the steaks were not seasoned but salt and pepper took care of that. The ribeye was so tender and juicy with great charcoal flavor. All said, it's a great old school place you all need to try. We will definitely be back soon.

We ordered the chicken fried chicken, which was super oily and greasy. The breading didn't have any flavor. Everything was just so plain tasting. I would rather have it with mash potatoes, green beans, and Mac n cheese, not the bake potatoe. Toasted bread was the only good thing beside my sweet tea.

Amazing value for the price! Also one of the few steakhouses that has sweet potatoes which is a huge added plus! Go when you have a chance!

Theirs was the perfect consistency and had hummus at the bottom, which was interesting and tasty. The scallops were really well seasoned and perfectly cooked. I wish it came accompanied by stuff I wanted to eat, but that was fine. Cario, the bartender, took great care of me while I ate. The espresso martini he made was phenomenal! He made a good old fashioned as well. The complimentary champagne started out my evening beautifully. I'd go back next time I'm in Dallas.

We invited a couple for dinner to celebrate their wedding we weren't able to attend. They are foodies, so we thought to try something different. The bread that looked amazing tasted like cardboard. The Hummus was terrible, and we are pretty snobby in the Mediterranean department. The Cesar Salad was good. Then the food came out. The seabass had to be sent back once, the second time our friend just dealt with it. I had the rack of lamb, which I get often. Awful flavor and strange celery mix underneath. The guys got Cowboy Ribeyes. My husband ate his because he hadn't eaten all day. He said, he couldn't make a better steak. Our friend had ONE BITE and didn't touch it after that. They bagged it up for him, and he left it behind. A $78 steak, not even touched. The mashed potatoes were great actually. Brussel Sprouts were the worst I've ever tasted. I think the poor server saw we weren't enjoying dinner and brought us out a complimentary chocolate tart, said to celebrate their married couple. It too was not good. Most everything was left half eaten or barely touched. I've never felt like I just threw $500 in the trash can, as I did last night. The food looked good (as shown in the pictures below, but don't be fooled) Complete disappointment. I say this as someone who worked for a restaurant group of high end restaurants for many years.

Often times after it's all said & done, you wonder - was that worth it? Thankfully, that is NOT the experience I had at Haywire! I ate here on August 9th, 2025 and enjoyed everything about it. I was with a large party but would love to return for a more intimate experience. On this Saturday, my younger cousin was graduating from Parker University so I was in town for the weekend. At around 1pm, I was one of the first to arrive at the restaurant. Unfortunately the parking is a bit confusing. There was construction being done on the same street when I went but there's a parking garage for customers that's difficult to navigate AND the elevator that connects wasn't operating at the time which was an issue for many (but not me, I got a good spot & walked). My party hadn't all arrived yet so I took a gander. Upon entering the tall doors, the space breathes southwestern elegance: wooden structure, leather seating, separate dining areas with highlighted ranch-style art. The abundance of space gives it an open-concept feel. The lighting fixtures are modern, the space was dim but not too low, with an option to utilize the large windows also. I was quiet impressed at the overall presentation. When my party did arrive, I wanted to keep it simple so I ordered the Chicken Cobb Salad and a Hibiscus Haze with Vodka. The table shmoozed as we ate some of the appetizers: the Crab Dip & Green Tomatoes, both amazing. The food did take some time but, considering it was 10-12 of us, that's expected. The Hibiscus Haze was splendid: smooth & flavorful, a great concoction. Cobb salads are usually pretty thick but this one was HEARTY. It came in a large bowl stuffed with the all the toppings. The dressing it was tossed with was well balanced but could've used a tad bit more. With some pepper & a little ranch, I was set! I defeated the salad but it also left me stuffed to the gills. Satisfying meal that I would order again! There are tons of restaurants to dine at in Dallas & sometimes you never know which is worth your time. Despite the inconvenience of parking, I'd bet my bottom dollar that this is a good place to eat. Whether you want a fine dining experience, it's a special occasion or just want a good drink with a meal, Haywire has enough to satisfy all interests.

WILL NEVER BE BACK!…read more HATED. EVERY. MOMENT. OF. THIS. PISS. POOR. EXPERIENCE. EVERY. SINGLE. MOMENT. VALET. NOT. FREE. I called before deciding where to eat on a Sunday afternoon to confirm parking situations. Parking is not easy downtown so this played a huge factor in figuring where, out of the dozens of brunch places, to eat. Definitely a bit of a walk to get accommodated at the actual restaurant so valet seemed the most reasonably enticing for parking solutions. Well, I called and spoke with the lady at the front desk. I confirmed with this little girl FOUR TIMES IF 1. They had valet available today 2. If it was complimentary. Come to find out it was not complimentary. And $7 for parking just doesn't sit well with me when there are ample free options else where with satisfying beverage, meal, ambiance, and service. All of which, I DID NOT GET AT HAYWIRE. I come in and although I had a reservation that I was 10 minutes early for while noticing tables available, I was told by that same girl who lied to me about parking I needed to take a seat. Reassuring me that it would only take two minutes to be seated. 10 minutes later I see coupled and groups walking in and guess what? They were immediately sat. While I am waiting to be sat at one of the three clean tables I'm staring at. I finally tell my boyfriend I am about to eat at the bar and he goes to the hostess stand to inform them our frustration and guess what? We were sat immediately. I get seated and there are two standing fans placed next to my table that's blowing my hair all over the f*****g place. I had to tell them to turn them off. What? No AC in this place either?? We immediately ordered and got the elk tacos for an appetizer. The tacos are WAY too spicy and way too salty. Too spicy AND too salty?? They're a no for me. You literally can't taste anything because of both! I HATED these little tacos. Probably the worst I've ever had. Ever seen someone attempt to pinch a bit of salt to season and the entire top comes off?? These tacos. My boyfriend had the chicken fried steak. He loved it (loves spicy and seasonings because he's Cajun) but I tried it and it was over seasoned. Again? Couldn't taste what I was eating. The mashed potatoes were divine. Enjoyed those! And then the green beans were tasteless. Hahaha what a joke. I ordered the barbacoa chilaquiles and it was literally too spicy to eat. Inedible. My eyes teared up, my nose started running, and I couldn't taste anything after a couple bites of the spice. I was so f*****g over this place I just ate my boyfriend's mashed potatoes and we left. If I had it my way, I wouldn't have paid for a thing here. They don't deserve our money and I HATE they got a cent from me. I'm livid. I hate this place W I L L N E V E R B E B A C K
