Thursday morning a little after 9:00am, I was in the area and Lucy's popped in my search for doughnuts. It was less than 10 minutes away so we headed that direction. Pleasantly surprised to see a few designated parking spots adjacent. The patio tables were already filled with customers eating breakfast and enjoying their coffee. It reminded me of the little cafes in Puerto Rico where the locals come and start their morning. The inside was relatively smallish, maybe because it was already filled with customers waiting for To Go orders. There are two walls of baked good in these beautiful wood cases. I was in awe that they have been operational for 30 years, I forgot why I came here. The doughnut selection is small, but you quickly overlook it when you see all the other baked confections. I ended up getting a concha because that is the real test for me how good a Panaderia is if they get this right and they certainly did. It wasn't too sweet, just the right about of softnesses and great value at $1.50 for this sizeable concha. La senora at the counter was multitasking, calling out orders and cashering. I love the neighborhood feel of this spot. Will come back for breakfast when I have more time! read more

I have only been here the once but the torta was amazing. I am pretty sure the bread for the torta is made in house - which makes sense since they're and bakery. Loaded up with delicious toppings and reasonably priced. Couldn't ask for more. Staff were very friendly but based on what I could tell I do not think anyone here spoke English so if you are looking for a reason to practice Spanish just plan on coming here. I ate at one of the tables they have outside. They have a lot of baked goods as well but I was here for a torta and did not try anything else besides a coffee. My brother in law picked me up a torta embarrazada. The bread was toasted to perfection and the meats were flavorful I was very surprised by the amount of food packed in that bread they married well together but you could taste everything in it. The breaded steak is thin but seasoned well the ham is ham the pork leg is juicy and the avocado is creamy and the American cheese holds it all together. I found a new sandwhich so I'm happy. The parking lot is small, so try to find street parking-there should be plenty. I went when I got off work at 6:30am, and it was full and kind of chaotic. I myself had a really bad experience ordered two tortas and got three pieces of bread and the torta bread was really hard and I saw a brand new Made so I'm not sure if they gave me a freaking three day old one and then the bread it was like hard rock it was really old. Dropped my friend off at the airport at 515 am and wanted a quick breakfast before work. I didn't want a donut and not many things are open before 6am. Found this place through Yelp. Do not follow the directions from Yelp as it took me to a residential neighborhood. It's a whole in the wall and I smelled the lovely aroma of fresh bread and could see the workers hard at work making tortas. I could tell this was the place all the locals go to before work. Even while waiting someone chatted me up. I went with a carnitas torta. While waiting I see an egg with sausage being made and I wondered if it was the chorizo. The carnitas was good but the bread was so soft and fresh I needed a difference in texture. The onions added a nice freshness, but wish their were more. I got the piña agua fresca but it wasn't sweet but still only$2 for a small. Overall this place is def worth checking out. If it weren't for the abundance of flies including one trapped in the pan display it for sure would've received 5 stars. read more

Like I mentioned it's a small mom and pop spot so it has all the feels of authentic, quality you should get everywhere. Besides sweet bread, they sell food as well which is sooo delicious. I ordered a Torta de pierna for lunch . It was ahhhmazing and was so filling . The prices are so so affordable and the wait time for your food is pretty quick as well I'd day 10 to 15 mins. Finally got to drop by here after reading about them in the SD Reader and putting cemitas on my to-try list. Pretty easy to find w/directions, despite it being kinda tucked away in a sorta neighborhood street. Walked in and it's a neat simple shop, with their menu on the wall, kitchen behind that wall (with a slot to tell your orders), and their baked goods (breads, cookies) cases on the right. Ordering was easy to do, and it didn't take long for my order to arrive freshly made. Ended up getting the cemitas poblanas with queso derretido, which was under $7, and wow. It sure was a lifechanger in terms of flavors and combination of ingredients! The bread was so soft and lightly toasted, with such a sweet scent. Follow that with a chipotle sauce with onions, guacamole and then the large slices of queso, it was delicious. Just wow. Finished it in less than 5 mins, and I sorta have a craving to get another one. Alas, that'll have to be another day. Glad I finally tried it, and I hope to be back soon. How I judge evaluate donuts is based on dough, sugar content, and spice. Dough to sugar ratio(DSR, It goes fom Krispy Kreme,high sugar to Dunkin,low sugar). Dough: High or low gluten, high or low yeast. Spice: How much cinnamon is in the cinnamon roll? How many blueberries are in the filled donut. Is it canned mix or fresh made. The donuts are larger than average, pretty big in fact. The DSR is towards the Dunkin end of the spectrum more balanced in my opinion. The dough has a lot of chew higher gluten content Spice is high, plenty of cinnamon. The true definition of hole in the wall. I even like the cheap coffee (diner coffee). The usuals: Apple Fritters Cinnamon Roll Cinnamon Elephant Ear Pan dulce (the selection changes slightly day to day) I love these donuts. read more
