I came here with my nephew for a Sunday afternoon breakfast after a hike and we both loved it. The restaurant is clean, cozy and casual. They offer indoor and outdoor seating and both American and Mexican food on their menu, serving breakfast until 2 pm. The staff is very friendly and the service is top notch which is one of the reasons I will be back when in town. We had 3 of the staff waiting and checking in on us throughout our visit as well as other customers. My nephew ordered the breakfast pictured which could be shared by two people. I forget the name of the order and do not see it on their menu. It came with 2 huge fluffy pancakes, a biscuit with gravy, scrambled eggs, 2 slices of bacon, 1 sausage and their logger potatoes. He loved his breakfast and the potatoes were amazing. We thought the biscuit & gravy were just ok. I had the little Joe which is served with 1 egg (any style), 2 slices of bacon or 1 sausage and choice of potatoes, fruit and a pancake or 1/2 waffle. This was a great little find. Only 300 ft from where our cabin was. Thought we'd pick some food up for the trip back home. Parking was good and the staff were so nice. Came in for lunch today, had chilaquiles with chili verde and scrambled eggs , I asked Alicia which one doses she like better red or green sauce she said green so I went with that. Great pick I'm a chili verde snob cause I make a darn good one and they didn't disappoint and hubby had huevos rancheros with over easy eggs but eggs needed a few more seconds to make them over easy, with chili verde. Stay Far Away. The menu they have on THEIR OWN WEBSITE is more than 50% cheaper than it actually is! The same items that are $6 on their website are actually $15 or more. Absolute highway robbery. On top of all this, the food is less than mediocre. The service is also poor (they won't refill water, serve some ppl and leave others at the same table waiting 10-15min more for their food, and don't ever come to check on you). We visited this place on vacation. We chose it because they have outdoor seating & we brought our two dogs. This place doesn't look like much but the flavors were mighty. Personally everyone at the table liked my dish which was chilequiles w/green sauce. It was so flavorful and delicious. The house made salsa topped it off and they even sell it by the cup. The New York steak & eggs was a bit overcooked but did the job. Overall a decent spot to visit & the server was kind. We will be back to buy a cup of salsa. Lol. read more

Not a safe place for people with gluten intolerances or celiac. They said they can make an omelette (which has no gluten ingredients naturally) but within minutes my husband was so sick. They just have cross contaminated it which is disappointing because we were so nice but very clear about his allergy. Gluten free diets aren't just fad diets. Some people straight up cannot eat gluten and Big Bear has almost no options for them. It's unfortunate. Looking for a Diner to hit up before our return back to Civilization, we decided to stop here. A LOT less crowded than The Village or any place close to it, this place is not a long drive away from all that craziness. The wait wasn't long, but we got lucky. Shortly after our arrival, we saw a crowd start to build up outside. Place is small and quaint. Like Grandma turned her Living Room/Dinning Room and expanded slightly more to turn into a public diner. No, really, I kept replaying that in my head my whole stay there. Although the wait was a bit for ordering and receiving our orders, and I had to ask a couple times to get my coffee refilled, I won't hold that against them. Covid and the "Now-Hiring" Sign outside is a good and understandable pre-warning ---- so come with patience. It'll be worth it. Food tasted just like it would if you visited your friend's grandma's place. Maybe not grandma herself, cuz nothing will ever compare, but close enough. I'm a big omelets person. Vegetarian, just add Bacon (I'm not vegetarian but I like lots of veggies on my omelets. This was well made and the egg was perfectly cooked to my liking. Fam had the usual pancakes/egg/bacon/sausage combos and they really enjoyed it. I had to stop my children from eating more than 1 pancake though, they were fluffy and huge! I just want to make sure I mention our great breakfast here because this place deserves outstanding kudos for its food and service. My husband and I encountered and stood in a line at a different, shall we say, 'grind' place. They were working under Covid distance restrictions, which we understood and didn't have any particular problem with. Nobody greeted us or said a word to us from the moment we walked in, and it was very warm in the place. The whole time we stood there, the one waitress working groused loudly about how busy she was - which we could plainly see. We thought we only had maybe 4 people in front of us, but when we realized there was also a party of 10, we thought, "Maybe let's go somewhere else... " We weren't upset about anything, we just thought we'd go somewhere else. As we were exiting the door, the waitress yelled out something smarmy to us to the tune of, "I was just clearing a table for you, but if you want to leave, okayyyy... go ahead!" *laughs* Ok... if I didn't have an issue with you when we left, I certainly have an issue with you NOW. I had a career in the service industry and all of her behavoir was absolutely unacceptable. There's no way I ever want to go to a place who employs people like you, and allows you to act that way in front of customers! Fast forward to the Lumberjack Cafe... They, too, were working under Covid distancing restrictions. They, too, had only one waitress working both inside and outside. (I think maybe she was part of the family who owned/ran the business?) They, too, had a line. Fortunately for us, a table opened up soon after we arrived and we were seated inside. (which was not uncomfortably warm like the OTHER place.) The difference between here and that OTHER place? THIS waitress was quietly efficient - tending to everything that needed tending to without grousing aloud about it. THIS waitress was pleasant to everyone, offering a thank you to peoples' orders. THIS waitress greeted everyone who entered and politely asked the line waiters to wait in a certain spot. THIS waitress regularly checked on our table to see if we needed anything. And, I can't speak for the OTHER place, because we didn't eat there, but the food here was delicious! I went to visit lumberjack cafe recently for some great brunch. They're currently having outdoor dining and take-out. This place is definitely a classic amongst all the classics. The hot cocoa was very rich and it went well with the cold weather at big bear. The breakfast burrito has everything you would think a breakfast burrito should have like eggs, hash brown, and chorizo sausage. The chilaquiles were definitely the star of the show. The salsa was very tasty and it was slightly spicy, I would say a 5/10 spice level. It went well with the egg and radish. Finally the zucchini fries were AMAZING!! It was better than your average zucchini fries, the batter was well seasoned and it had a nice crunch on the outside and soft texture in the inside. This place is definitely a must to try if you're looking for a great reliable brunch at big bear. read more

I took my family to big bear for a weekend getaway this weekend. Not knowing the area I spent some time here on yelp looking for a good breakfast spot. Lumberjack cafe popped up and had good reviews. The images looked good so we thought we would give it a shot. We arrived and the waiter asked us to wait outside by the chair (marked) in the middle of the parking lot...so we did....there was no check in other than talking to her..no sign up sheet , nothing. As more and more cars arrived we all spaced out as we could. 20 mibutes later She came out to call the next customers in and by passed us...when my girlfriend let her know we were next in line she was very rude towards my gf..."I told u to stand by the chair", we were 10 ft away from it...... We get inside order our food, which was mediocre at best. The hostess/water girl eventually handed every table their bills way before we had even finished our meals but I out my card put to pay for it anyway. They took all the other tables bills/cards but ours. I sat there another 10 minutes waiting for someone to come grab the card and eventually said screw it and got up and bugged a staff member...not our waiter. The service we received was terrible....which was surprising because we found them here on yelp and came today solely based on the reviews. Wish it were a better experience! read more
