The best thing about this place is their french fries. Honestly one of the best French fries I've ever had. I was so full and sad that I couldn't finish all of them. That's how obsessed I am with their fries. I ordered the fried chicken sandwich and my husband got the quarter pounder. I was expecting the portion to be small bc it's Laguna and the prices are a little up there but the sandwiches were huge! I liked the cilantro in the slaw of my sandwich. We also got cocktails and they don't skimp out on the alcohol which i appreciate but I didn't quite find it as refreshing as I wanted it to be. Not sure what their other meals are like but I think their burgers/sandwiches are "worth" the price bc of portion and delicious fries and I saw another table order a family meal so that price seems ok too but I prob wouldn't order crab cakes from here for $20. The service also took long but we tried to be understanding bc it looked like our waiter was the only one for a busy place so I felt bad. And I saw another woman who could've helped him but no, she only went to one table (a white woman and her kids) to refill their waters while my table and other tables could've used a refill too and sat around aimlessly for a long time. If I'm ever in the area I'll come back for the fries and the fact that their tables are clean and socially distanced. Okay this is considered a local favorite and I can see why. Started with a glass of Malbec that was smooth and wonderful. A great selection. I had the salmon with potatoes and roasted cauliflower. I would highly recommend this dish. Flavorful salmon with a wonderful glaze. Then going into a layer of potatoes and roasted cauliflower that was covered in an exquisite sauce. My guest had the beef stroganoff which was with homemade pasta. The pasta was good but the meat was a bit flavorless and slightly chewy. Sauce was a little light too. Not bad but just not up to the quality of the salmon. Service was excellent. And then a warm cookie for dessert was the perfect ending to the night. read more

We made reservations over 2 weeks ago, for a party of 5. We were sat at a folding table, next to the backdoor. Not only was it a folding table, but a super cheap one at that. Not cool. The host was very unconcerned about our dilemma. The noise level in the restaurant was nearly unbearable. I promise to NEVER eat at this restaurant again. There are so many better spots in Laguna. First time being here and I have to say it was really packed. Only reservation and they told us we can sit at the bar. Which we did and sat down. Our bartender who helped us she was really friendly. Got our drink menu, plus the food menu. We settled with the Pina Colada but the name was something else. Something sunshine, and food came out hot and fresh. The atmosphere was lively filled with people chatting. All the happiness filled the whole room and I had a great time being there. The fries were AMAZING, I've had so many fries from different places and this is the best I've ever had. The deep fried fish was alright. The onion ring was also ok too but it was very crunchy. Great restaurant in downtown Laguna. I've been here frequently over the years and never had a negative experience. The food is great and the servers are always nice. I had the Southwest chicken bowl today which was very tasty. My only complaint is that it only came with one avocado slice. I tried some one my friends French duo and it was great too! We spent 3 hours in the car to get here on my husband's birthday, so we were beyond grateful for fantastic service (Ali), food (beet salad, meatloaf, pot pie, lava cake), and music from the band on the patio. The staff inside was super accommodating and realized we'd be happier outside with fresh air and live music. Had dinner on the patio before Pageant of the Masters yesterday. Pleasantly surprised by the quality of food and friendliness and helpfulness of staff. Portions were ample and served at appropriate temperature. We were intrigued by their unique and extensive "Tinned Fish" apps. Tried Curried Trout to see what it was all about. Delicious actually and served with appropriate accompaniments. Our Moravian waitress was delightful. Will definitely be returning. Oh, and some interesting and fun cocktails, and good wine list. I had never heard of or noticed this place before on our occasional trips to Laguna, and picked it primarily for location and convenience. We were visiting the Sawdust Festival and wandered into town. Not a far walk at all. The food was terrific. I had a burger with some delicious mashed potatoes. The mac-n-cheese was also tasty, but it was so hot when it came out the cheese was running off the noodles. After it cooled, it absolutely met my expectations. The only other issue I had was that I was facing outside and the sunlight was reflecting off the bldg across the street so intensely I could barely see the person I was sitting with. We were not disappointed in our meals! The waitstaff was courteous and prompt. All questions answered, and we never felt rushed even though the place began to fill quickly due to the Pageant of the Masters. My daughter had the baby back ribs and said they were delicious. I had the skirt steak with corn and mushroom ragout and mashed potatoes - excellent! Our waiter suggested my cocktail since they did not serve what I wanted and I was very happy with his suggestion. A grapefruit martini - they have a name for it but basically that is what it was. Yum. My only disappointment was that upon making reservations, we were asked if there was a special occasion, and yes there was. The food and service were excellent. There are gluten free and vegetarian options. My friends enjoyed a Beyond Beef Burger with sweet potato fries, and a pasta dish which they loved. My organic rotisserie chicken dish with mashed potatoes and fresh vegetables were perfectly cooked and delicious! The only bad thing about Lumberyard is the noise level. We had to ask to be seated on the patio because the decibel level inside was through the roof and we would not have been able to hear each other talk. We wanted to catch up while we ate, and it would have been impossible. On the patio, we could carry on a pleasant conversation, and luckily it was late enough (7 pm) where the sun or heat were not an issue. We chose this restaurant because we could walk to the Pageant of the Masters, which started at 8:30 pm. It was an excellent choice, since there was a patio table available. read more

I stumbled upon this restaurant while spending the day in Laguna. Literally, it was the smell of the food from two doors down that drew me in! I loved the ambiance of the restaurant and it was very clean, very well managed. Service was efficient. We had drinks and enjoyed a delicious meal at the bar. I had the chicken penne and it was phenomenal. The pasta was cooked to perfection and the serving was generous. My boyfriend ordered the sirloin and literally said it was one of the best steaks he's ever had! The cut was soo thick and still somehow the chef cooked it perfectly to order. It was served with a super crispy, buttery and cheesy au gratin. So bomb!! Major props to the people working in the kitchen DELICIOUS!! Parking is tough in Laguna, but there are pay lots and Meters on the street. This will likely be the restaurant I frequent when I'm in Laguna read more

BF works right by this restaurant and he eats here frequently. Today he brought me down to Laguna to try one of his favorite lunch spots. Good call on his part! We started with the Lobster & Shrimp Spring Rolls. They were SO GOOD. The filling was very buttery and juicy. The outside was crunchy and light. The dipping sauce was slightly tangy with a kick to it. I was in love with this appetizer. BF decided to order off the brunch menu, and he got Eggs Benedict. I ordered lunch and had a French Dip Sandwich. The food was out very quickly. His eggs were perfectly poached, but the hollandaise was listed as a "chipotle hollandaise" on their menu and neither of us tasted any hint of chipotle. Good eggs benedict though! My French Dip was great! The meat was thinly sliced, very tender, and had great flavor. I loathe horseradish, but theirs was mixed in with sour cream so I actually liked it! This place is pricey. It was $50 for our lunch, and we didn't order any alcohol. I would definitely eat here again! read more

I can't believe I haven't tried this restaurant. It must be because I've only visited Laguna Beach a total of 5 times since I've lived in Orange County however I'm amazed by its beauty every time I'm in the area. Must remedy this and get over my fear of beaches and beach towns. I love how inviting the Lumberyard is. The design of the building is unique enough to draw me in. Reminds me of something out of some fairytale making me question if elves live here but that isn't the case. Our waitress was friendly. The drinks looked yummy but usually what I think looks yummy is either too sweet or bitter. I prefer something right down the middle and the Go Green was the recommended drink. While most serve this mojito inspired drink a little too sweet, this one was just perfect. It was a blend of Cruzan rum, ginger ale, crushed mint, and cucumbers and I could have easily had another or three. I sampled the sweet potato fries and planks. I'm not really sold on the appetizers. But then again, sweet potato fries just aren't my thing. I want my fries to be salty not sweet and the planks - deep fried zucchini with lemon aioli sauce were alright but just too deep fried for me. Meh. I think this dish needs to grow on me. My dinner however was excellent. I split an order of the penne pasta. It's a dish with smoked chicken and a tomato vodka sauce. Usually pasta dishes are heavy but I was surprised that the chicken was flavorful and the sauce was light. I wasn't full but satisfied. I appreciate the attention the waitress gave us. She checked up on us a couple of times and kept the drinks refilled. We also met the owner and learned a little bit about the background of the restaurant. This place is at the edge of town off of Forest so parking is metered but free after 7pm or if you come before you can park in their lot off of Ocean and get validated. Overall, I will definitely be back to check out the extensive wine list, the other drinks, sample the appetizers again, and the pasta dish. read more

This was my second time here in couple of weeks. My parents came to visit from the East Coast and after spending HH on the Rooftop Deck we opted for dinner at the Lumberyard. The service was good, food was very good (just like the first time) and a nice surprise- they have wine half off on Tuesdays. Plus they carry my favorite- Justin Cab as well as Iscoseles. Amazing reds with great food and company. The restaurant reminds me of Maine actually- exposed beams and darker wood- kind of different in SoCal. They are on Open Table so reservations are a breeze. That's perfect . So we get going and finding parking on a beautiful Sunday is insane in Laguna! So come in and seated right away. I Love how spacious this place is, I wouldn't think there would be much of a wait even if it were a packed house, this place is that spacious especially for Laguna. So pretty much all the menu sounds great and I have a hard time trying to figure it out. We started off with the cornbread and clam chowder . Man oh man that cornbread will ruin your meal easily!!!!! Talk about crack cornbread!!!! It comes out hot and deeeeelish. Didn't even need butter! I love the little bits of jalapeno throughout the cornbread. The clam chowder booooomb! Nice bits of bacon , They love to sprinkle things within their dishes I see LOL. Onto the main courses, I got the chillequilles, bad mistake, way to heavy and actually bland . It's almost like two different chefs making our food. The one making the apps used flavors and seasoning, the one who made my main entree didn't use ish. I didn't taste my boo's monte cristo sandwich but it sure looked yum!!!! Overall I would most definitely come back. Visited for a birthday lunch and had a mixed experience. We were seated outside in the hot sun and unfortunately, umbrellas were brought out just as we were leaving. Wow, in all these years of passing this corner, I've never noticed the Lumberyard -- thanks, Yelpers! The noise level --during dinner, at least -- was rather noisy; however, that didn't take away from our enjoyment of the restaurant's dim, festive atmosphere and good food. Our server was the best; she was extremely personable and professional, and didn't rush us, allowing us time to enjoy each course! What a difference the service makes!! Upon studying their online menu, we finished off with their signature dessert: Hog Heaven Pie, which was rather disappointing -- especially after such enjoyable experiences prior to dessert; we felt the peanut butter to chocolate ratio was too high, and the dessert simply wasn't impressive. Thankfully, the delectable complimentary chocolate birthday dessert made up for our dismay with their signature treat! Fun find!! read more

Service was excellent. Food was very good with good portions. OUTSIDE patio was okay - not much to look at. The parmesan crusted sole filet with mashed potatoes was very good. The grilled Branzino was excellent - will definitely order again. The beef stroganoff was okay - too much horseradish sauce and our son did not like it too much. We'll be back! read more
