Friends took us to brunch there this past weekend. One couple got there before us and fortunately snagged us a large table on the patio before it filled up. The patio was nice, I mean it is still just a patio on the sidewalk but the stools and tables are substantial enough. The one downside to our table: the bench. If I sat back I was too far from the table, if I sat forward I was awkwardly blocking the people on either side of me from chatting or seeing around me and I myself was uncomfortable. Stupid massive bench seat. The brunch deal was 2 for 1 with $2 bloody marys and mimosas. Quite the little deal for brunch! I was impressed with the bloody mary bar, though it was all the way in the back of the restaurant (not that the place is large, but slightly inconvenient). My boyfriend and I both ordered the huevos rancheros, which we both enjoyed. One of our friends had the monte cristo and liked it as well. Our waiter was attentive, though after he cleared our plates and we were chatting as everyone finished their drinks that he didn't really know what to do with us because none of us needed anything. Like, okay cool? Don't you have another table or somewhere to cool your heels, because saying that isn't going to make us slurp down our last drink especially when there isn't anyone waiting for a table. Luna Sea At Night This was a poppin' spot on our visit. We weren't dressed to go out but apparently no one dresses up in VA Beach so we fit just right in. Shorts, sweater and flip flops at the club. No cover but they will check your ID. Two Story spot but the upstairs seems to be the place to be if you want to dance. It does get warm up there but that's to be expected. There appeared to be an outdoor terrace where peeps were playing games. Downstairs has music too but I think it's a restaurant, not sure, I was drunk. Nothing special here but the music was good and we were entertained for the time we were here. read more

The service was exceptional. When I went there, I was a strict lacto-vegetarian that didn't eat the rennet enzyme in cheese. The waiter that we got explained that his father is vegan so he was always happy to look out. They read the package of cheese and even logged onto their food service distributor's website to check whether the sour cream had gelatin in it. It did, so I was really thankful that they took the time to look it up for me. They ended up making me cheese and grilled veggie quesadilla that isn't even on the menu and giving me a great deal on it because it was just cheese and vegetables. Lunasea is my all-time favorite spot to unwind at the end of a long week (and sometimes during the week!) The atmosphere is unique. With five different bars within the restaurant, there is something for everyone here. A club upstairs has live music or a DJ every night during tourist season. The main bar up front is a less noisy place to have a conversation with your friends. Big, comfortable couches are found both upstairs and downstairs to relax and watch the crowd. Out back there is a beach volleyball court where you can play cornhole with your friends or play volleyball. There is plenty of seating around the court with swinging benches and wooden deck chairs. Just above the court is an outdoor bar with plenty of seating and a great view of the volleyball court. Smoking is outdoors only, either out back or in front of the restaurant, where you can sit outside and watch passersby. Aside from the nightlife, the food is pretty good and reasonably priced. There are different drink specials every night as well as a fresh catch of the day. If you happen to be there and they have the blackened mahi and salmon fish tacos, get them quick because they never last more than a few hours! Sunday brings another treat to this wonderful establishment; brunch. Lunasea's brunch menu is buy one get one free! The menu items are all wonderful and fairly cheap. Along with a wonderful brunch, they also have a make your own bloody mary bar with lots of goodies to make your drink just the way you like it, all for only $2! Lunasea also offers many different types of mimosas for $2 as well. Get to brunch early (yes, even if you have a headache!) because they get pretty packed during the summer. My friend and I were just in Virginia Beach for the weekend and decided to start our night here. First we were greeted by a friendly and knowledgeable local, Connor, behind the bar. We just told him what type of drink we wanted and he delivered!! He told us exactly where to go and what to do in town. Live music was great and we played cornhole (highly recommend). I really enjoy coming here! Especially during the summer. They have this great outdoor space that has a sand area to play corn hole and 3 bars outside. The inside is also very lively but can get very crowded, but that's not necessarily a bad thing. They always have a great DJ that plays top 40 hits, and keeps the crowd dancing. Me and my friends always have a good time here. The one thing that I would warn y'all about is that they do have a $10 minimum for credit cards, which is not too uncommon at the oceanfront, but if you don't plan on drinking that much, just bring cash. read more

It was one of those nights. I would only ever go here and drink at this time of year (post-labor day) and only on a weeknight. I was trying to find the Repeal Burger place and walked right by it since it isn't well signed (maybe that is their shtick). So instead, I see LunaSea all kinds of lit up with a hostess that was righteous on bringing in the guests. I ordered some conch fritters (waaaay better than the stuff I have eaten much farther to the south) that had chopped (rather than whole) conch. That is the key. The dipping sauce was the perfectly balanced amount of sweet and spicy. I had fish tacos for my meal. Ditto on the tasty factor. I would hands down recommend this spot if the lines are too long elsewhere, you are digging some tasty bites without the artificial mark-up or you are simply curious how a joint called LunaSea can be putting out food this ridiculously good. read more

Ate here in the past, then twice on our recent trip to VB. We ended up here because of long waits in other restaurants. It is like the best kept secret in VB. No wait. It is inexpensive, and our large group of 11 people- we all loved our dinners both times. Some of the hits: Fajitas, and Fish Tacos, and a beef chimichanga. The misses: The plain margaritas tasted too much like a bad mix. The service was different on a Friday night vs Wednesday night. Friday night, we could make substitutions, Wed. night we were told no substitutions (chef does not like it), one bill only (no split checks). The place is not busy, so PLEASE be accomodating! It was just okay. I was there on a Saturday night in the winter, so I didn't have big expectations, but it was fine. Music was fun and it wasn't hard to get a drink. Bathrooms were a bit cramped, but that's standard at the beach. I hear it's more fun in the summer, and that's probably true. You should have seen it when people came up to him asking for a ride. He looked so disappointed. Boiled shrimp tasted really fresh. Burger was on the small side, but tasted good and crispy. I'm a medium rare guy, which they wouldn't do, but I wasn't upset. Awesome vacation mudslides. The waiter was a really good guy. I've been going to this establishment for quiet some time and I've had no issue until tonight. I have my sister and friends from out of town come visit me and I recommended this establishment. We went here Friday night to have dinner and see DJ Steven Dotson, which is an acquaintance of mine. We had a blast that night and our server was great. We decided to return for Sunday while we venture out the ocean front. We are here first then went about our way. I wanted to return back to this place because I really enjoyed the fried calamari which I've ordered twice, Friday and tonight. Before we could walk in security asked us if we are here for dinner or drinks. But before we could decide which one we would want to do, the hostess responded by saying that we already had dinner. We felt very disrespected and treated unfairly. I felt like she didn't want our business and we weren't welcome. I would not recommend this establishment any longer. I used to praise this place for how friendly it has been to me but now I will not bring my friends here for any reason. Please if you are reading this do not waste your money here. The bar scene / night life at this place is Awesome! I didn't get to experience the food, though I heard it was anywhere from good to outstanding. They have a number of bars where you can get drinks, so there is never a huge wait. There were a lot of very attractive people here as well. Inside is nice and pretty cool with dancing and partying, but the out door set up is UNREAL! Two floor, horse-shoe deck that wraps around the beach pit where there are 6-8 games of corn-hole going on. My friends and I are in town for a vacation. After asking around, we decided to give this place a try, and I'm so glad we did! If you're new to VB, I highly recommend the orange crush. It's a common local drink made with freshly squeezed oj, orange vodka, triple sec, and sprite. They're normally $7.50, but on Wednesdays it's $4 all night. I also had the frozen classic margarita and it was good as well. There's live music everyday, and they have special guests and DJs on weekends. We had such a good time that we decided to return the next night and our friend returned AGAIN the next day. They brought her soup & sat it on an empty table & it sat & sat. We ordered drinks, they took a long time... I sprung for the $13 large special margarita with grand marnier in it...there was merely no alcohol in the watered down drink! Then after we were sitting there for nearly 30 minutes our waiter informed us he forgot to put our order in & we waited an additional 30 minutes before food arrived. They forgot the nacho appetizer & brought it after the late dinner. The nachos were stale & soggy with a mush of cheese layered on top. The lettuce on the crab cake sandwich was brown & the tomato old & squashed. The crab cake was also mush & not held together well. The French fries were the best thing on the table! I politely told the waiter the nachos were not good and he just said sorry. They never offered to take them off our check or offer a discount and he just said sorry.
