$2.60 bbq pork bun. July 2026 Same great taste. Best when fresh out the oven. $2.50 egg tarts. $1.90 cookie and merry cakes.

There is always the discussion about who has the best buns in SF. It seems like everything is a Top 5 in SF when it comes to a discussion in person or on social media about food dishes and restaurants. I know some people who won't eat a dish if it's not the Top 5 in the city. Some carry a check list of Top 5 places they read or saw on social media and act it's a Michelin Guide ( Michelin Guide only covers 17 states in USA ) . I find these lists sometimes subjective and it can cause delays on getting food and drinks around the city when dining out as a group. There is a place which does have in my opinion one of the best buns in SF. It's located on Clement street and it's called Lung Fung. On a Spring stroll in May I landed on 19th Avenue and Clement. Inside you can smell and feel the presence of the buns. They have all types of buns available from sweet to savory . The buns here range from cocktail bun, green onion bun, and pineapple with red bean bun. I came to try one of favorite buns which is the BBQ pork bun. These buns were soft and inside it had some good meaty pork which was not chewy but tasty. The BBQ pork buns at Lung Fung are better than most in Chinatown if not all of SF. I then got their Portuguese egg tart which was creamy delicious and not too sweet but a bit flakey on the edges like some in SF. Definitely this place is in my Top 5 places in the city to enjoy some buns. Go for a coffee "run" on Clement in Outer Richmond whether it's with Karl the Fog or with the May "sun"because San Francisco is the city made for "fun"and go to Lung Fung for a delicious "bun" In America San Francisco is the Top 5 for its food "scene "because it's different diverse cultures and international "cuisine" with hundreds of cafes and restaurants where the party people "convene "and at Lung Fung's is the place to enjoy a pineapple bun with "red bean"

This place tasted so good. I REALLY LIKED THIS PLACE (BUT i might be biased with because i have a small crush on them). The meat inside was slightly sweet but had a strong umami flavor that can get addictive. The sweetness from the pineapple portion of the bun also makes it tastes so good. I want other people to give it a try and see if I am really biased or not

Cash only! There are a few tables and seats, but it's more of a takeout place. There was a short line that moved fairly quickly. The staff was friendly. Tried the egg tarts and baked BBQ pork buns. I like that the egg tarts have a flaky crust. The buns were decently sized and had tasty BBQ pork filling.

Oh my gosh, the char siu baos here are soooo good! My companion would come here growing up, and after our crazy New Year's Eve, he was craving a char siu bao to start the new year. I'm not the biggest fan, but the baked ones here are everything! We arrived on a dreary New Year's Day. The small bakery is super casual, with not much going on decor-wise, and focuses more on takeout. They have their items on display, so it was a quick grab-and-go for us! So the char siu baos are what you need. I was never a fan of the steamed ones, since they were a bit too doughy at times and had little meat. But, I have learned to appreciate the baked ones because, wow, Lung Fung's is so soft and pillowy, and the portions of the meat are perfect. It's the ideal amount for a light meal or snack and is reasonably priced! I highly recommend Lung Fung Bakery if you're in Richmond and craving a char siu bao. Go for the baked ones, you won't regret it! Find them off Clement with street and residential parking nearby.

This bakery has so many delicious goodies but one that stands out is their BBQ Baked Pork Bun. This bakery has been a Richmond District staple for so many years and it deserves all of the stars and respect it can get. It's a cash only business and I honestly love that so much. $2.50 for one bun. Who can beat that? You'll often find people playing board games along the sides of the store. It's a consistent ambiance that withstands the ever-changing city of San Francisco. Lung Fung Bakery, never change!

This is a small but very popular Chinese bakery, with lines that snake out the door. At least the line does move. We got red bean puff, walnut cookie, and merry cake (aka old wives' cake). Cash only.

The star is the classic BBQ Pork Bun - perfectly fluffy with a savory-sweet filling. The Egg Tart is also a must, with a beautifully creamy custard in a flaky crust. Don't miss the hidden gem: the Pineapple Bun with Char Siu. The contrast of the sugary, crumbly topping with the savory roast pork is exceptional. A no-frills, traditional Chinese bakery with just 5 small tables. It's cramped and utilitarian, best for a quick, authentic breakfast or takeaway coffee and tea. Not a place to linger. Straightforward and efficient, focused on keeping the line moving. Don't expect leisurely table service; it's order, eat, and go. Conclusion: Lung Fung is a destination for its superb baked goods, not its ambiance. The BBQ Pork Bun and Egg Tart live up to their fame, and the Pineapple Char Siu Bun is a delightful surprise. Go for a fast, delicious, and authentic taste experience, but be prepared for very limited seating. Highly recommended for food; just manage your space expectations.

I've been coming here for their pork buns, which are often said to be some of the best outside of SF Chinatown. It's cash only. The bakery has a menu listing all the items available, and they also have signage with recommendations, which is helpful if you're not sure what to order. I got the baked BBQ pork bun ($2.50 each). It was very good and had lots of BBQ pork filling. I would pick up a pork bun if I'm in the neighborhood and need something quick.

Delicious, fresh breads with good amounts of filling. I went at 10am on a Saturday, and there was just 1 person in front of us! * Pineapple bun with red bean paste: fluffy and not too heavy but still filling * BBQ pork bun: fluffy bread, meat was tender, not fatty, not too sweet, and not unnaturally red! * Egg tart: egg custard was light and melts in your mouth. im personally a bigger fan of the crumbly crust over the flaky pastry crust so this was pretty good!

My brother always brings me their goodies when he surprise visits me at work and I have completely fallen in love with their Chinese baked goods. Everything I have tried so far has been top tier and easily above par compared to most spots in the city. From what I have seen, their prices are fair and competitive with other well-known bakeries. The egg custard tarts and BBQ pork buns are my absolute favorites here. They are made properly and well. Not too sweet and just the right balance. This bakery makes all the tradition Chinese baked goods and more. I have had their items three times so far, and the quality has been consistently great each time. I am planning to visit soon, but I might have to stop myself from ordering way too much! :D

Came here to try the BBQ pork bun and it was delicious! I actually preferred the pineapple bun with bbq as it had a little more crisp on the crust. Lucky enough to get warm buns, but the egg tarts and regular pineapple bun were also excellent. Cash only and waited probably 15 minutes in line with 6 groups ahead of me just slightly outside the door when I arrived. The cashier was taking and filling the order, answering calls, running the cash register (cash only!) so it was just a little slow and chaotic - old school style. I'm a fan and the prices were very reasonable - will be back to explore more of the menu!

One of my favorite coworkers is always bringing me goodies. I've never had a pastry like this. It smells so good. I can't comment on the service because I didn't pick it up myself, but according to him they're fast and efficient and the pastries are always fresh.

I came by on a Friday around 11 am and it was so hard to find parking. The line was only formed because the bakery is relatively small and doesn't have a lot of wiggle room so they only let in one party at a time. There aren't any sit-down tables or chairs so this is a grab and enjoy somewhere else. Pastry: Kouign-amann (8.4/10): Oh this was yummy. I love a good kouign amann and Arsicault satisfied my sweet tooth. It was a little too sweet but had a good outer layer crunch and fluffy interior. Chocolate Almond Croissant (7.8/10): This one was amazing! I will say that this one is definitely on the sweeter side but it was still delicious. It's a pretty big croissant with a good crunch but not a lot of flaking :( I did really enjoy the almond paste that was smothered on the inside. My boyfriend really enjoyed this croissant and wouldn't stop talking about it for a few hours.

We waited about an hour on a Friday morning. On to the baked goods, it was some of the best bakery goods I've tried ever. Everything was delicious in every way. My favorite had to be the coffee cake, the elote corn, and the Lorraine. Wow, so damn good. I know their menu changes, but it's a must try as their base dough for all their items are PERFECT. Each bite is amazing with such a crunch. Their corn latte was also super delicious.

The namesake Pistachio Cardamom croissant was excellent for a filled croissant. It had excellent layers and the cream was just enough to add a lusciousness to each bite that wasn't too heavy. The madame lorraine was my other favorite. It was meaty and rich with the soft baked runny yolk and the light touch of rosemary was just enough to accentuate the bite. The not as good...a standard butter croissant. Maybe we got a dud but there was a serious lack of layers in ours and it wasn't as crisp or as buttery as I like. The elote corn croquiche filling was also quite salty which was a shame because the pastry layer was pretty good. I still have two more pastries to try but given the weight and the mixed bag, I definitely expected a lot more from Butter & Crumble. Pro tip: get a butter croissant at Arsicault, walk to B Patisserie and get a kouign amann. You'll have both before the line moves here.

I heard kind of a grunt, kind of like, you know how Asian people will grunt sometimes instead of speaking (my Japanese grandmother and mother do this, so I picked up on it...)... so when I heard the grunt, I said, "Oh, are you ready to take our order?" And she looked at us and nodded as if we were an inconvenience to her. Aaaahhhh yes.... this is the "Gen Z stare". No common decency of doing business with humans, just her staring at a screen and expecting us to telepathically know she was ready to take our order. Thankfully I have Asian heritage, because my friend would have probably died waiting there for the gal to say something or make eye contact. So we order 5 pastries, a bag of vanilla butter mochi, and 2 drinks which came out to nearly $60, which is fine... but then upon payment to ask for a 20% tip? Um... excuse me? Grunts and stares does not a good tip make, my dears. We left $4 to cover the 2 drinks being made and for the "service". If she had offered us common decency, we would have tipped more. I'm not asking for a fake smile - just to be acknowledged as a customer who is patronizing a business. My friend got the honeycomb toffee latte. While other people got sizeable chunks of honeycomb atop their drink, he got literal dust. He asked if that was the honeycomb, and they confirmed. Wow - they really did hate us! Is it because we only tipped $4? We may never know. The einspander coffee was good. The pastries were overall, good but more like "okay". The hojicha puff filling was runny and literally dumped out of the hole it was piped in to. We sat at a table outside of the shop, so it's not like we traveled with the pastry and it got hot or something. The orange chocolate bun was very good. I am not familiar with Korean, so please forgive me... but the croissant square with mochi and kinako could have been good, but the kinako cemented to the roof of my mouth when I would take a bite. Then when I folded it so the cementing wouldn't happen, the flavor was just lost. I thought the chewy mochi with the crunchy pastry would be great, but it wasn't. I absolutely adore kinako, but it just didn't work. I'll stick to regular omochi with kinako. We got the two Korean beef pastries - the croissant version and the bun version. The bun was great even though the filling was skimpy. The croissant pastry was okay, but the bun was better. Would I come back? Probably not, to be honest.
