This place is hit or miss- while I absolutely love the beef fajitas and drinks this past experience was a HUGE disappointment! We were there as they opened not many other tables- our waiter was not present and was very slow. We ordered two margaritas-the ruby red was clear and didn't look anything like the picture (another disappointment), and waters and our alcohol drinks and queso came before our waters! What?!?! We ordered chicken and beef fajitas and they gave us only beef- the plate was NOT steaming and slightly warm ish not piping hot and the server didn't come by (another person dropped our food off) so we had to wait to even tell him and even then he looked at us like we screwed up. We were served tortilla chips and an oddly warm, ranchero bean dip which on a hot summer day didn't go well at all, and then I had to ask for salsa. Everything I've ever had from this beautiful restaurant has been delicious. So far my favorite things have been the charro beans, the flour tortillas, the beef fajitas, the puffy tacos, chicken quesadillas, and shredded beef soft tacos. Service is excellent and wait times are reasonable. Of course, I come during non-peak hours. I hear this place is a complete madhouse Saturdays at 12:15 for example. The waitlist is a bit confusing, if you join the waitlist on line, it doesn't necessarily tell you when to head to the restaurant. We went after the quoted time and the hostess told us that they were about to give our table away (although I never received a text letting me know). Our server wasn't able to answer our basic drink questions but a manager, Tim, came over and took care of us. He also brought over a sample of mini tacos that were delish. We ordered the queso flameado and it was very filling. Our server changed mid-meal and that was disappointing. Although our first server didn't know about drinks, she was at least attentive and friendly. Wish I would've read these reviews first to know what to expect with wait time. We waited an hour to get our Barbacoas fajitas. The portion was great, it lasted us 7 servings total but I was a little disappointed there weren't many onions- mostly meat. We asked for corn tortillas but got flour and when we requested corn again we did not receive enough tortillas for the fajita serving. The meat was super tender; the ribs were very flavorful. This review is for the Round Rock location near Bass Pro Shop. It was a really nice evening so we sat outside until they could accommodate our party of 6. (This past Sunday) We had a 20" wait, which didn't seem that long as I find our 2 youngest grands-brothers (12&14), quite entertaining. They are soooo competitive. Anyway, we received our text and proceeded to the entrance to be seated at our table. The restaurant was quite busy. The team member assigned to wait on us, arrived at the table with two baskets of chips, their semi-spicy salsa, and their bean dip. With a 12 and a 14-year-old at the table. Their basket of chips and dips were gone before the server even made it from the table after taking our drink order it was pretty much like that all evening we could not keep our chips and sauces full. I think we ended up with, one refill which included the chips after we ordered a large queso for the table. During our drink order (which we changed twice)-our server advised us this was his third night on the job. I immediately felt a lot of empathy for him because we are a difficult family and we always want things a specific way so nothing is ever just "I'll order number three". So our order for nonalcoholic strawberry, daiquiri, and non-alcoholic, coconut drink, two cokes and two daiquiris with Bacardi rum required one change right off the bat. After taking our order, it was about two minutes and our server returned to report. They were out of Bacardi rum, so they either had their House rum or Malibu Rum. One of us switched over to a Coke and I stayed with my strawberry daiquiri and requested the house rum. It took a few minutes for him to get the drinks together and return to the table. Shortly thereafter my drink arrived via the bartender. Taking our order went very well considering. There were three people that ordered fajitas which the restaurant is known for and are absolutely delicious with their homemade tortillas.!!! of course, the homemade standard taco size flour tortillas were requested as those 3 diner's preference. One party ordered a beef burrito meal. I had a combination plate that included a charred beef, enchilada, a guacamole salad, and a beef crispy taco- the last party at our table ordered the three beef enchilada plate. As mentioned above, we also ordered a large queso for the table.. There was a huge Christmas party going on in a private room right next to our middle dining area. This is a really big restaurant, and I don't know how many tables are server was assigned, but he was clearly overwhelmed. He did return a couple times and was able to refill waters and sodas. It took a while, but at some .2 of our meals arrived. I am not OK with eating when the whole table hasn't been served so despite being told to do so I just waited our server returned, and couldn't believe that only two of us had been brought our meals and quickly headed out to the kitchen area , he returned in a bit with the other four meals had to go back-and-forth several times because those fajita meals require a lot of separate dishes and trays and such. We were all very empathetic toward his situation. The queso came along with the rest of the meal. One person in our party was pretty upset about that, but I ignored it, and I was hosting. There were lots of variances requested with the sides, several orders of sour cream, one person with double rice, no beans, and those kinds of things. One of us was having a birthday, but did not want any singing or anything of that nature so our waiter was nice enough to bring him a complimentary warm, brownie without ice cream because they were out but that was fine . The bill was around $240 with tip for six of us with one alcoholic beverage. See receipt for breakdown. I think overall they are on the pricey side but it's a great place to go once in a while for a treat or a special meal. I don't think there are better corn tortillas anywhere in the county. Theirs are absolutely delicious, homemade, soft & warm. We hope that our server Christian gets more comfortable quickly!! He was very nice, very polite, and was very concerned that everything was as requested. We gave him a generous tip for his effort. I have been to this Lupe Tortilla too many times to count. This review is based upon a combination of visits not just my last. As we are now in a worker shortage, I understand that long wait times may be quoted and servers are over worked, however the lack of stars given has nothing to do that. The lack of stars is warranted for the overall performance from this establishment, pre pandemic to current. I have found that while the food here is a good option for those who seek Tex-Mex, the service that accompanies it is lackluster. There hasn't been a time in my last handful of visits that the food was correct when placed at the table, or that I wasn't overcharged or brought the wrong bill. Stopped in for a brunch on a Sunday before going to a movie nearby and quite surprised. We sat bar side, ordered a Mexican coffee which was served hot to my surprise, very delicious. This has been a go-to spot for us and I really enjoy the food. However, my mom and I went here for lunch this past week and the experience was sub par. First, our server gave us the bare minimum amount of attention he possibly could. Our drink order was pretty standard: - One water with lemon - One unsweet tea with lemon and sweetener - Salt for the chips He came back with no salt, no lemon. My mom asked for a straw and he came back with lemon. We never saw the salt, although we did eventually get a straw. We both ordered the puffy tacos. They weren't good. The 'shells' were soft and chewy and didn't have much flavor. The filling was pretty good, but the wrapping just ruined it. The waiter didn't bring us our food; someone else did. I am done with Lupe! I made a to go order a week ago. The email I was sent after I completed the online order gave the time the order would be ready. The main reason I come here is for the dog friendly patio. The staff at this location are much friendlier than the Arbor Walk location, so I will always choose this location over that one. The food is good. A bit on the pricier side for Tex-Mex, but not overpriced, if that makes sense. They bring beans (non-vegetarian), salsa & chips out, which is a nice little treat. Their queso is really good. They have a special vegetarian menu, but you have to ask for it. Margaritas are tasty. $1.50 off during happy hour, which ends at 6:30. My wife and I came here to have dinner together here after some holiday shopping. The staff here are limited and the wait was pretty long for us when we came. However, with the global work shortage I can understand and empathize with them. So I am not going to complain about the long wait. It is what it is no matter where you go today after the pandemic. The bartenders here made some excellent drinks for my wife and me. By the time we received our food we were pretty much full from snacking on chips and salsa along with our cheese dip appetizer. Our food was pretty decent and made to order without any issues. Our waitress was pretty attentive to us and another couple she was serving. We made it in time for happy hour, I ordered a mojito 'Rita and it was served with a brown, crunchy mint leaf. The response from the bartender was that all their mint looks like that and recommended I order something different as a replacement. The spicy mango margarita was good! The table we were seated at was dirty even though it was set with clean rolls of silverware. Our server was really nice, attentive and did a fantastic job! Our food was also really good! My daughter said her churros were not good, however. My kids were super disappointed that the restaurant was out of ice cream since it was supposed to come free with a kid's entree. I love this place!!! We first discovered it in Dallas and were SO excited to see there was one in Round Rock. Now the only reason this place is a 4 instead of a 5 is because it takes a long time for drinks and food to come out. That being said, you do have chips and salsa while you wait. It gets pretty crowded so make sure to join their online waitlist ahead of time!! The fajitas are amazing - they say "famous" and they mean it!!! I have never had better fajitas in my entire life. The portion is huge and it comes with guacamole and homemade tortillas. The food is great, but service is not that awesome. Although, I may add, it could be because they're always busy. Therefore, people don't mind "ok" service since the food is good. Tasty, big portions, and overall nice ambiance. If you don't want to wait an hour or more for seating, just grab a place at the bar where you can also eat. However, if going with a big group or family it will be better to check in online and get in the waiting list early. I like my food, I ordered the crab stuffed shrimp and it was very tasty. We also had the chicken nachos and the beef fajitas. I do have to say the chicken and beef were super tender and juicy. Also, the sides they give you are a lot and generous in portions. They tried to bring 3 drinks per person to make up for this so table 21 glasses of drinks not being drunk 3 sodas per child? Stopped by last night to eat and was greeted by a rude and argumentative female hostess who was dismissive and clearly uninterested in assisting us get seated. We were never actually seated because it was such a heavy lift for the employees to figure out. At one point I overheard the hostess make some disparaging comments to another worker in Spanish about me being white, but the joke is on her and I'm fluent in Spanish. The food took a little while because the restaurant was slammed, but when it arrived, we were not disappointed! Crab/avocado enchiladas for myself and steak fajitas for my husband. The food was phenomenal. The bar was packed and I was impressed with Emma. She was constantly on the move and taking care of the bar with one other person. As we were leaving, an older gentleman sat next to us. At one point he started to yell at Emma and all I heard was "Joe Biden." I heard Emma say "This is restaurant policy and not political..." Apparently, the older patron got upset that a credit card was required to place an order at the bar. We had no problem giving a credit card when we sat down at the bar. Emma didn't deserve that poor behavior. She remained professional whereas I know I would've lost it on that guy. Requiring a credit card is now in place because of the many patrons leaving without paying... He obviously could not manage a large party and even made comments stating its a big group, I am doing the best I can but with all you all getting up I feel like I put these food orders and they're not going to get paid for, so we aren't allowed to take a smoke while waiting over and hour for appetizers and food? My beef enchiladas had a spoonful of beef spread across 3 enchiladas and when asked the manager about this, was told oh the kitchen was running out of ground beef so they did the best they could. The waiter ends this disappointment with saying honestly my manager just wants to get you all out of here. Will never go to round rock location, will stick with the mopac location where the managers are pre-emptive in ensuring the service and food are as it should be. Oh and the bathroomhad not been tended to, no toilet paper and random hair ball.
