My husband and I were on a road trip and searching for a place to have a late lunch when we happened upon the Lyndon Diner. I had a really good patty melt and home fries with onions - both were delish. The old man had a turkey club and fries, both of which he enjoyed. The service was great - everyone on the staff we encountered was very friendly. The only issue was the spotted lantern fly infestation. They need to figure out how to fix that situation real quick cause those suckers are jumping on their customers as they go in and out of the restaurant. The two stars are based on the service. Our server was kind and attentive! That is where the good news ends. I ordered scrapple and eggs over easy, which came with hashbrowns and I was up charged for sourdough toast. I am fine with an up charge, but the sourdough was only toasted on one side and it was anything BUT sour. It tasted like white bread. The hashbrowns were undercooked and the eggs were clearly cooked on too high heat. They were brown and stringy all over. The scrapple was good. My husband had scrambled eggs and his were fine. The sausage and bacon were bland. Pancakes he said were good but not enough butter. All in all a very disappointing breakfast! Do yourself a favor and skip this place! Diners, diners, and more diners! Our group found this fantastic classic diner off of Kenneth Rd & Arsenal (RT30) a second location in Lancaster as well. Great classic diner food that is fresh and delicious. Portions are big and most of our group takes home the extras for later. They have booths, counter seating, table and a nice size area for private parties. They also have TV's which is nice when you are with boring people :-). Service is outstanding, we love the service we get and the servers as well. They always make sure we have a great experience. It's not often I see a New Jersey beloved meat this far West of the Garden State. This alone makes going the the Lyndon Diner worth the ride. While traveling through PA (the first time?) of my summer driving, I stopped at the Lyndon Diner in York. They have two locations in York and Lancaster. The Lyndon Diner has been on my to-do list for a while now, but the timing never works out. I was excited that the timing worked out. Atmosphere: The Lyndon Diner looks like a stereotypical diner. The outside is built with chrome and is a big, shiny, metallic, exterior. The inside has plenty of booths, tables, a full-length bar, and dessert case. It's a picturesque diner in all of the best ways. Coffee: The coffee was brewed hot and fresh. Plus, the whipped cream is homemade. The waitress brought plenty of refills. In all, it was one of the best coffees I've had in a while. Food: A The Lyndon Diner has everything you would want and need in a diner. From all-day breakfast, lunch, and dinner. It was hard to choose! I decided with the BLT. First, the meals came with a bread basket with pumpkin bread. It might be the best pumpkin bread I've tried. It seemed odd to have pumpkin bread in May, but I won't complain because it was delicious. I also ordered the Greek platter, which came with pita bread, hummus, olives, grapes leaves, lettuce, and tomatoes. It was huge and worth it. The BLT was packed full of meat. It also came with a mixture of nuts and sweetener (I think). I still don't know exactly what it was or what it was for, but it was delicious. I also ordered sweet potato fries, which I think were the best fries I've had. They were crunchy, and you could taste the sweet potatoes. My meal was delicious, and I would order it again. Service: The waitress immediately introduced herself, and she said she was new. Truthfully, I would have never guessed if she never told me. They had 4 wait staff call off and the remaining staff were overwhelmed. That is understandable. However: Our waitress was not at all friendly. She never smiled or used a kind tone. She knew an order was incorrect, but still brought it out and simply said, "Sorry" without trying to fix it. She never asked if we needed anything additional (refills, etc.) or offered dessert. When a request for a condiment was made, she walked away without acknowledging the request and simply fulfilled it. She was a very unpleasant waitress. Keep in mind, she said nothing about the circumstances. We only found out when the cashier told us. We heard about the amazing tomato bisque soup on Fridays so we had to come and try it. It is delicious! Creamy and smooth with enough pieces of tomato to make this tomato lover happy. I'd heard it was sweet and it was a tad too sweet for me. Didn't stop me from loving it! I had the Lyndon omelet which has onions, green peppers and tomatoes and on the menu it adds feta cheese. Since I don't eat feta I asked for provolone and they complied with no problem. It was delicious and not over salted like so many restaurants do. The hash brown potatoes were good and I needed to add salt. I think it's a good thing when restaurant food isn't overly salty! Husband had fried chicken and scrambled eggs with hash browns. There was a boneless fried chicken breast covered with milk gravy which he said was delicious. The scrambled eggs and hash browns were tasty as well. Service was good and the bathroom was clean. While visiting York to attend the State Fair, we stayed across the street from the diner. Sadly it wasn't open at 10:30/11 p.m. after the fair closed, but we did have a chance to visit Sunday morning. We tried the egg casserole which had hash browns, chipped beef gravy, eggs, and topped with (lots of) cheese. It was too interesting to pass up. Was surprised when the waitress asked how we wanted the eggs cooked - assumed the dish would be baked? Anyways, I'd order again. Service is good and quick, even on a Sunday morning. This review is no reflection on our waitress she was awesome. Now for the one star. My husband and I each ordered a glass of Merlot. We waited 25 minutes because the person getting drinks was also the person checking people out. Our waitress informed us she wasn't allowed to go behind the bar. She finally went and got someone else to get our drinks. We ordered our food I got crab cake melt with onion rings my husband ordered the pork chop special. We then waited about 30 minutes for our food to come out. Our waitress said she was waiting on our onion rings. Well my crab cakes were over done you could tell they were reheated in the microwave. My husbands pork chops were a joke. Definitely microwaved after the onion rings were done. They were very thin and totally dried out. The waitress did stop by our table to tell us she spoke to the manager about our wait times. But the manager never came out to talk to us. Then it was time to pay the bill. We go to the register and the girl running that was cleaning a table and saw us standing there. She continued to clean the table so here we go again waiting. Met here with 30 close friends....(didn't want to say old friends, but that's who they were - from high school 50 years ago.) Our class hosts a monthly luncheon here in one of the side rooms. Service staff were friendly and welcoming. We ordered from the menu and asked for separate checks. And it was nice of the diner to do that for such a large group. Very reasonable prices for (unfortunately) very mediocre food. Nothing bad...just standard diner fare. The Reuben I had was acceptable--certainly not overstuffed, not greasy, and not exceptional. (Of course this isn't the Carnegie Deli, is it?) The fries were crisp and nicely done. The Chicken Wrap was a bit dry (see photos I posted). And the Corn fritters were ok, a good ratio of yellow corn and slightly sweet batter fried golden. read more

It has been over 3 year from the last time i was here. I currently work next door to this place. I came in for lunch with a co worker. I was a little surprised by my overall experience. Service was fast and on top of everything. Prices were a little higher than what i wanted to spend on lunch. But i ended up with way more than i wanted to eat. I had enough to take home for a second meal. I really enjoyed my meal. If i had to complain about anything is that my asparagus was over cooked. i would come back here. It was very nice to have a excellent mimosa with my Country Fried Chicken. Super creamy and thick gravy with a generous portion of breaded chicken breast. I'd bet a ladle and a half of hollandaise ( or whatever they pass off as hollandaise) in his chicken and waffles benedict. My family and I visit the Lyndon Diner about once a month or so and I keep forgetting that I don't want to come back. I have it in my head that I love diners. And I do love diners... in New Jersey. The Lyndon has serious issues that need to be addressed and even then I don't think we will return. On our visit there yesterday there were new menus. Probably like the 5th or 6th menu change I've seen in the few years I have lived in the area. If you read the menu carefully you'll note some things that don't make sense. Like in the "Favorites" section, the header says all items come with 2 sides, soup or salad, and a bread basket. Now, I have never seen a place that touts its bread basket as a special feature you only get with certain menu choices but okay, whatever. In that list there are multiple items that say, come with 1 side or comes with rice. If it doesn't fit the header of the section, list it somewhere else. (eye rolling) The specials menu had no details on it- like someone hastily put together a word document with some lame choices on it. There really aren't that many choices and the text is very difficult to read. Prices are inconsistent as well. So we were there on Labor Day and the place was dead. We stood at the front of the restaurant for several minutes with 2 other couples, waiting to be seated, while the young man at the register dealt with an angry old man who was short changed or something. We were seated and our server was wonderful and attentive. Our server was the high point of the experience. I ordered the Baked Stuffed Chicken Breast. My sons had Fettuccine Alfredo with Chicken and their "Super Cheese" Burger. My husband ordered a Broiled Seafood Platter from the Specials Menu. My sons' meals were good. I think that the serving of fries is insufficient for the price of the meal and they're served in this stupid cup thing lined with a sandwich wrapper. The fries were limp and pale. My stuffed chicken was still frozen in the middle. FROZEN. It was also doused with a chicken gravy with lumps from the thickening agent in it that made it very unappealing to look at. I asked our server if they could microwave it so that it would be at least room temperature. My husband enjoyed his seafood, mostly. He eats things in order of appeal, saving his favorite thing for last. So he ate the haddock. He ate the shrimp. He ate two of the scallops and then said, "Hey, can you smell this?" Yeah, it smelled strongly of ammonia. Not a good sign. We let the waitress know. When we received the check I asked to speak to the manager. When he finally came to the podium he seemed aware of both situations with our food. He comped the baked chicken, which I didn't eat even after it was nuked because the inside was still cold. He also deducted $5 from the check for the rotting seafood. I think I'll save diners for my trips to New Jersey. We definitely won't be back to the Lyndon. A stupid aside: they had decorated the dining room with red, white, and blue stars and had a sign that said "Thank you for your service." Someone should educate them that Labor Day has nothing to do with the military. read more
