I received a response from the Mac 24/7 owner, Brett C, explaining the situation and policies regarding the splitting of checks. I have to say how impressed I am with his promptness to clear up any confusion and assumptions that were made on my part. I would like to clarify that the only reason I had assumed the manager as being lazy was due to her response of "I will split 2 checks, but no more than that." Her tone of voice and body language aided in my conclusion of her. Perhaps it was a bad day for her or even an incorrect interpretation on my end. If I have offended the evening manager in any way, shape, or form, I sincerely apologize. When waiting for our car the valet boys asked us if we at at MAC 24-7, and appoligized... they could tell just by the look on our faces that is was a most shitty experience. I don't know why I decided to bring my friends from out-of-town to this joint. Well, I guess 'cuz it was late and our options were limited... and we didn't really want to hit up the tourist-ladened eateries in Waikiki, so I suggested Mac 24/7. I've been here a couple times before and was never really a fan. But I thought to myself, maybe I just don't order the right things when I'm there, so I opted to give the place another try. Third time's a charm, right? Wrong. I mean, the place has a cool little vibe to it, but the food is just so... blah. I know they're known for their gargantuan pancakes that are supposedly super awesome, but I've yet to try it, nor do I care to. After the last time I came here, I don't think I'll be returning. The food is nothing to rave about and is overpriced... in my opinion anyway. On the plus side, it is open 24/7! This was my first time coming to this place after hearing so many stories about the epic-sized pancakes. This restaurant was also featured on Man Vs. Food. My friends and I came here at about 3:30 in the morning-drunk and hungry, so there was only another couple there. We were seated in the back room at a booth. Our waitress was really nice and helpful when asked her opinion on which entrees were "winners". Our waitress was very patient with us as we kinda took a long time to order. I originally wanted to order the Eggs Benedict Royale but I had to share with my BFF who wasn't a Benedict fan. So we ended up going for the Mac Attack which was French Toast or Pancakes with eggs, bacon and sausage. We opted for the pancakes with Cinnamon Streusel & Vanilla syrup. We also split the sweet chile chicken wings with ranch. I am a breakfast fanatic so I love eggs at any time of day. We were quite satisfied with what we ordered. The pancakes with the cinnamon streusel topping was absolute heaven and topped with the vanilla syrup, it sure hit the spot. Being accompanied with the eggs, sausage, bacon and chicken wings, it was pretty hearty of a meal. Just when we were all about ready for the check, our waitress comes to our table with complimentary ice cream, a scoop each of vanilla, chocolate and strawberry. It tasted like any other ice cream, just dressed up with some chocolate drizzles. But in no way am I complaining! Who doesn't like free? We asked for our check to be split 4 ways so it took a while to complete all of our transactions due to some technical difficulties. The restaurant is designed nicely with a cushioned wall at the entrance, large flat screen TVs lined up along the bar, and modern furniture and looked very clean. i enjoyed MAC's very nice garden view with tall floor-to-ceiling glass walls -- a very green look with varying greenery elevations, but alas, lacking a focal point. before taking a table, tour the entire dining room with its varied table settings (garden view, narrow enclosed-feeling section, semi-enclosed tables with TV) & pick your choice 'cuz prices are high here -- mac & cheese with garlic bread is a whopping $17! no prosciutto or salami or pipi kaula included. my $24 braised beef lacked subtlety as it lacked bone & simmered collagen. it came in a bowl & no spoon is provided. some of the rice was too wet, & gooey which means zero quality control. you can't get pancakes with shredded coconut (very inexpensive, but hey! you're in Hawaii!). to add a Hawaiian touch to your pancakes with pineapple, mac nuts & haupia sauce (do tourists know what's haupia?) will cost you $3 extra. meatloaf at $24 had kulana ground beef, but tourists have no idea what kulana means/is. not too bright, yes? as with fine dining eateries, a busboy brings your dishes to your table. this is not conducive to hustling a big tip as most times the busboy (who the diner has never seen before) has to ask "who ordered the xxx?" rare is the eatery that alerts the busboy so this somewhat hoi poloi question is never asked. just what do servers/order takers do if the busboys set & clear away tables? parking is $3 valet ($3 added to your tab) which is a bargain of sorts in waikiki. there's no time stamped on your parking claim check so you could park for longer than the 3 hour limit that's mentioned. help yourself to the abundant (low demand it seems) free apples in the lobby. why not free Maui ineapple or coconut chunks or other local product? read more

We stopped here on our last day in Waikiki. Let me start off by saying i underestimated this place. When i saw it on Man Vs. Food i thought it was just another place with large portions. Dont get me wrong. The pancakes were HUGE! but the other food on the menu was better. I ordered the short ribs which were really good. My girlfriend ordered the loco moco which was the sh*t. and my buddy had the best plate at the table. he ordered the Adobo plate. im filipino, and every filipino knows no one has better adobo than mom. but after eating the adobo here, my moms adobo cant touch it. haha. all in all. good place. friendly waiters. nice ambience. i would go again. just not to eat pancakes. read more

Prefer to experience independent restaurants - tried M.A.C. at the Hilton Waikiki Beach for breakfast.... Other than having to wait and Hostess caught with a big rush, Peter the Bartender to the rescue: great service for two at the breakfast bar, plus they offer a gluten-fee muffin option with the large omelet - stuffed with double spinach and feta cheese. Peter also gave us some ideas on other places to visit.... overall good experience - just need to give the hostess better support on a Saturday morning. read more

Very disappointing after reading positive reviews. Server was great very friendly, food took a long time to come to the table. This was breakfast @ 10.30am. Bacon and potatoes were not fresh and had been hanging around for a long time, toast was hot but barely toasted. The poached eggs were like 2 golf balls, I asked for 2 more eggs which came relatively quickly and were cooked OK. For the price paid, I didn't feel the value was there and certainly nothing other than the 2nd eggs wee fresh. Denny's probably has fresher food that what I experienced. First off let say I have been going to Mac 24/7 since the very beginning. We would go 4 times a year and since I've moved to Honolulu we go when the mood strikes. It was my very favorite place to eat ever. These days...not so much. Everything used to be handled with such style - now it's like a bad Vegas experience. What the Hell? The last time i was there, a couple at the table behind us was shouting, throwing fits, and berating our waitress the entire time we were there. I came for the cheesy atmosphere not to listen to 2 drunks slur their way through a meal. C'mon what gives - don't serve them - ask them to leave. We got to sit through the entire drama involving the entire place and half of the staff. But tonight we went again for Valentine's Day. My mistake. They weren't having a bad day last visit, they were beginning their slow decline into the Waikiki Hell to sit along side Chili's and Genki Sushi. As soon as we were seated, by someone who originally must of had the day off judging by her outfit, we were welcomed with a server throwing a tantrum and arguing with someone who I think was a manager. Throwing things, stern language, and storming off - it was charming. I think he might have been our server, but I'm not sure because another server came to take our order and he really did act like he was doing us a huge favor. Whoa! Thanks dude I was parched after all of that. Then the food came. It used to be plated with artistic purpose, now it was simply thrown on a plate. Oh so very, very Sizzler-esque! During the meal the tantrum thrower apologized to the couple behind us several times for "all the excitement", never mind us in the slam pit with front row seats. Then we were blessed with an open discussion about the "new bad guy" and the "old bad guy" on staff.. Add to that a 3rd person who came to check on us 5 more times (he was actually the only person in the joint that acted professional ), and finish our check. Loco moco with a burger ordered medium that came out as jerky. Omelettes with runny eggs and veggies that just weren't fresh. And service that is just glacial. Get your check when you place your order or you may never see a server again. I've been in early brekky (0600), post-rush (0930), and late night, and it's always the same - wait to get your order taken, wait for food, wait for the check. And you pay a premium to eat here! There's a shocking lack of places for late night food in Waikiki, but I've learned to go to Wailana on the other end of Waiks (even though that's a decent bike / bus ride). The parmesan truffle fries were too perfect, we wanted to and tried to eat every single fry. The Elvis pancakes were amazing and huge, and made me very very happy. Our server was very good. The other server from the other night recognized us and came over to talk with us. 4 of us ordered the Mac Daddy Pancake with Struesel. Again we couldn't finish it. It was delicious. 3rd visit late evening. Went a few days later for dessert. Server ignored us. Perhaps because we were only ordering dessert. More attention on the other table with dinner items. I'm sorry, but this place has no redeeming qualities to me, not even the fact that it's open 24/7. Frankly I'd rather go to Zippy's and have an apple napple, I'd be happy. I just don't see the appeal in this place. When it first opened it was a commodity so I wanted to see what all the hype was about. The too-cool-for-school mod diner decor lured me in I think. The food was just average and I felt like the servers had no previous serving experience before. Not impressed. So I thought to myself, ok, cut them a little slack, they're still working out the kinks. I figured I'd give them a second chance and try them this time for breakfast. So I went and ordered the pancakes. When they brought them out to me and I saw how ginormous they were, I got irritated. I wasn't even amused, or astonished like wow! omg! No, just really, really irritated. It irritated me because they know NO ONE can finish these pancakes so esssentially they're wasting food and money AND because it's such a weak attention-getting ploy! I get it, they're going for the shock value thing. But seriously, couldn't they offer them on the menu as "instant heart-attack-on-a-plate pancakes, eat at your own risk" and then have normal sized pancakes for the rest of us? I hate that if you just want a freaking decent-sized pancake you can't get one, you are forced to get the mother of all pancakes. Ugh. Sorry, reliving the experience got me all worked up. Came here with a good friend of mine this morning at about 1 AM. We called first to make sure there was parking. There was only Valet available at that time, $3 for 3 hours. We thought that wasn't too bad, we weren't gonna be there that long... we were wrong because although the food is really good up to very good quality & has really good potential & was very tasty. The wait in there was ridiculous. We ordered a Guava-licious off the HappyBar Menu (12AM to 3AM, $7.50 mix drinks) it took almost a good 20 minutes for the bartender to make my drink. He was so busy entertaining the people at the bar & getting to them first he did not even bother to cater the other people who were sitting in the booths. Most of the young folk that were in their last night were they're because they were drinking. I watched him (the bartender) even take a Restroom break or & it still took him about another 10 mins after he was finished to make the drink we had ordered.. although it was a strong drink & worth what we were getting, it was just crazy that the service there was just not up to par. Our waitress was a sweetheart. She definitely made up for how crappy all the other service was in the restaurant. The food took a while. We had ordered the Calamari & shrimp for it to be only exactly that with some regular tartar sauce I was hoping they would serve a house sauce or something different than just plain tartar sauce.. Although it felt like a welcoming place & somewhere very new & interesting to eat to get in those late night munchies. The prices were definitely up there. The quality of the food was up to par, but paying almost $25 for a plate is kinda crazy when you just wanna get some pancakes at midnight sometimes. Personally for my very first experience of going there it wasn't what I expected. But I think it has potential they just need to work on there hospitality & servicing a little better. The service here at night can be a bit slow since they only have two or three servers for the late night shift; however, their drinks and food are worth the wait unless the kitchen is busy and the quality decreases. I personally like the 'Boneless Hawaiian Rib-eye steak' with mash potatoes and brownies for dessert. I have never done the Mac Pancake challenge yet since I'm not a fan of pancakes. Instead of the pancake challenge me and my friends created our own alcohol challenge 'The Mac-cano cocktail' challenge in which each of us order one for ourselves and see who can finish the drink faster. With the check-in on yelp the Mac-cano Eruption cocktail is $9 instead of the regular $18 which is meant to be drank by two or three people. The portion size for the food is big enough to feed most guys and is definitely enough to feed two people that have small appetite. The best night to dine in at Mac would be Wednesday since is industrial worker night in which you can get 50% off on food by showing them your blue card or pay stub to prove that you work in the food service industry. Usually they close dinning room area and only leave a few table by the bar area for customers at midnight, however, on Wednesday is open so there is definitely a table for you if you want to go for a late night snack or for a few drink. read more
