My family and I went to M dumpling for the first time to celebrate a family member's birthday. The first five minutes pretty much set the tone for how the dining experience at M Dumpling went: stressful. Since it was our first time visiting, we did not know that the only way to order at the restaurant was through scanning a QR code on the table. When we asked for a printed menu, the waitress rudely told us to order using the QR code. This was weird, because we saw another table with printed menus. We eventually did manage to order using the QR code. It took an exceptionally long time for the food to arrive - around 20 minutes for the first dish, and 30 minutes for the last dish. While the place was a bit busy, it wasn't packed. Therefore, we felt like it took way too long for our food to come out. Whenever the waitress would bring our food over, she would toss the food on our table with an attitude. It was like she didn't want to serve us, but only did because that was the only way for the business (and her) to make money. Now, while I have established that the customer service has been sub-par so far, I am also a firm believer in acknowledging the positives. Let's pause for a moment and talk about what was good. The food was actually really good! We had ordered the M Dumpling Special Combo, and the shrimp fried rice. (For the M Dumpling Special Combo, we ordered Pork Soup Dumpling; Pan Fried Pork Bun; and Salted Egg Custard Buns). Everything was very tasty, and I was actually impressed with the flavor. For a small business, the taste of the food failed to disappoint. Okay, now let's shift back to the customer service, as we had more interactions with the waitress that were less than positive. When the time came for us to pay for the food (which happens when the server comes with a card reader), we requested to purchase a bag of frozen dumplings. So, the waitress brought out the bag of frozen dumplings and edited the list of items on the card reader to accurately reflect the amount to charge. One of us then tapped our credit card on the reader to pay, after which the reader prompted us to provide a tip. Of course, due to the sub-par customer service, we didn't want to tip a lot. However, the waitress stood there (close to us), and stared at us - as if she wanted to badger us to give her more. Reluctantly, (because we didn't want to make things even more awkward), we tipped more than we wanted to. After this, we asked the waitress for the receipt, as we weren't provided one. The waitress at first told us (of course, with an attitude), that they didn't do receipts, but then brought one to us. However, this first receipt only had the food items that we ordered PRIOR to purchasing the bag of frozen dumplings. So, we requested for a second receipt with ALL of the items we ordered, including the bag of frozen dumplings. At first, the waitress tried to make an excuse as to why she couldn't get us that second receipt, but suddenly walked away and reluctantly got us the second receipt. Then, we left. It was quite unfortunate that this had to be our experience, especially since it was for a family member's birthday dinner. We are for sure not coming back to this place again. It's a shame, because the food actually tasted amazing. However, there really is no point in trying to enjoy good food when you have to interact with rude staff. It was my first time visiting this restaurant, and I ordered the combo set with Sheng Jian Bao, Xiao Long Bao, cucumber salad, and Gui Hua Gao dessert. The Xiao Long dumping had a thin skin with juicy, flavorful meat and plenty of soup inside -- perfectly done. The fried dumplings were cooked just right -- thin, crispy, and delicious. The Gui Hua Gao dessert was a soft sponge cake I had never tried before -- not too sweet, which I really liked. The restaurant was clean, and the service was friendly. The server did mention that it gets really busy later in the evening so I'm glad I didn't experience the rush. This was my second visit here. During my first visit, I fell in love with the green beans and stir fry pork intestine. So this is the reason why we came back! A Must Order: Pork Soup Dumplings and the Stir Fry Green Beans with Pork Intestine The intestines gives the green beans a nice salty taste with a little spice from the peppers. Sooo good. The dumplings had a good amount of soup in it and super flavorful. Be careful when it first comes out because it's hot! I recommend adding the vinegar in the saucer with ginger that they give you. Dip the dumpling in there before eating. Nice balance flavor. The dough is too thick or too thin. At other places the dough rips and you don't even get the chance to taste the soup. During this visit, we wanted to try something new so we shared the beef shank noodle soup. There are three choices of broth. Since we like spicy, we went with spicy. The spice was Sichuan pepper. It wasn't too spicy but had a little kick. The noodles were good, they had a nice bounce to them. The server was so sweet and told us we can switch out the broth if it was too spicy for us but we enjoy spice. Service here each time I've gone is great. They welcome you, check in every once in a while. And since it wasn't busy, the server even opened the door for us on our way out! read more

We tried a few items, born and raised in China, I have to say their dumplings are really really good! The skin of the soup dumplings is soft and chewy, and the soup inside omg. I'm also a big fan of the pan fried dumplings, I cannot say enough how tasty the fillings of the dumplings are, perfectly juicy and savory. They have pretty good jasmine tea as well. The place started getting more busy and still the seafood dish was not out. We had to wave down the owner who now said they are unable to make the dish. I understand as a newer establishment if they have struggles to keep up with demand, but as the business owner I would think she would have at least done something to compensate for the inability to cook the dish we ordered. I asked her if there are any desserts hoping to hint to her, and she said yes and brought out sesame balls and then charged us for it. I guess I should have realized if they're also charging $8 for some salted cucumbers, sugar and rice vinegar worth less than a buck. Waitress sold us on their "specialty" which was a "honey-braised" lotus root with sticky rice for $12. Highly, highly disappointing. Hard pass, I felt cheated. With so many great Chinese places within a 10minute radius, this place would be ok if you stick to the pork soup buns and dumplings. I live in the area and my family and I are so happy that this new restaurant opened. Just the second time we went, the staff recognized us and welcomed us back. We have been going frequently ever since, and we are greeted with a smile every time. Their flavors are consistent. We always order their pork XLB which is always super soupy and perfectly flavorful. Their sautéed string beans are our family favorite. We have probably been there 6 times in the span of a month because it is so good. There is a window to the kitchen so you can see what is going on that makes me feel a sense of trust. The service is quick too. And if you are picky about tap water and metallic flavors, their water is always perfectly cold and tastes super clean. It is hard to determine the stars, all depends on the dishes, I love their Chicken xiaolongbao (soup dumplings). Another on I love is their beef bun, quite tasty. They used to have pan fried bao with chicken meat, but now they cancel it, so it lost one meal I really love. Beef noodle is really just Okay, Bay Area is so competitive, many places have better beef noodle. Another I had really high expectation was the Glass noodle salad, I don't really like it, it is supposed to be north eastern style, but the noodle is too sticky. By the time when you eat it, it is all stuck together. Besides these dishes, I havnt tried others, will try to find more and maybe revisit this review later.
