This was my second visit to Macello and it's a great off the beaten path (1200 W Lake) neighborhood restaurant with an awesome outdoor patio. We lucked out with perfect weather to sit outside. Great kids menu along with all your traditional pastas, fish, lamb chops, and brick Owen pizza. My kids got a pizza and spaghetti with meatballs off the kids menu while I got a pasta with pistachio and mushrooms. Staff and service was friendly and attentive. Definitely a hidden gem in West Loop When there's like 200 different Italian places in west loop, it's easy to just go for the obvious places but this restaurant at the edge of west loop (further west from the center/hub of west loop) was such a great find! Wood fired pizza pugliese (mortadella, burrata on a tomato sauce base) was really delicious and the crust was baked really well with a nice crunch but not burnt edges! Definitely less fluffy than a traditional neapolitan but the flavors were really solid - well balanced and not to heavy on the salt The seafood risotto was also pretty well cooked. Bit of a hidden gem in west loop! Street side parking available outside and it's not as crowded because it's a little further out from the other restaurants. Plenty of seating inside. Their pizza is so good, crust is a the perfect texture. I got the lamb chop casserole, the casserole was on the saltier side but the lamp chops were perfectly cooked. Tartufo Di Nocciola was basically a chocolate sauce covered chocolate ice cream. Again, not bad, not incredible. Service was not the greatest. This restaurant is located in the west loop area, and the atmosphere is wonderful. You enter and walk into an old shopfront with plenty of Italian cheeses to choose from. The seating area has beautiful lanterns adorning the ceiling and murals along the walls. We ordered burrata to share, which was quite yummy. Additionally, we ordered the pizza barese and risotto barese with sausage. I enjoyed both, feeling the pizza was better than the pasta. Valentine's Day dinner with the family... we were escorted to our table right away, the inside is unpretentious and cosy with wood fire - pizza oven and minimal decorations. Our server Joseph brought out our drinks and accidentally dropped beer on me and broke the bottle . My new red dress messed up and I was wet and uncomfortable for rest of the evening. My wine was served in a stemless glass not sure why , didn't enhance my experience of the good Pinot noir. We got the mussels, delicious! Some sausage appetizer and Main course whole chicken, pasta and seafood risotto. Dessert cannoli and tiramisu. Loved the pasta sauce wish they sold in the deli up front. I rarely feel compelled to write reviews and now I am writing my 2nd on this place so I make sure people know to stay away. What a terrible experience and disappointment. I've been to Macello before a few years ago and it was so good- this time I was at a whole new restaurant. Ambiance was terrible, bad music, no one else in sight on a Thursday but I understood why. The saltimbocca was beyond dry, I couldn't find the filling in the in the braciole, the Barese sausage had nothing Barese about them and tasted like breakfast sausages, and THERE WAS A HAIR IN MY FOOD. The food was not good. Service was also beyond lacking- couldn't believe the hospitality fee when I didn't receive hospitality. Even if I wanted to address the issues at hand the staff did not seem to care at all. I asked staff for a recommendation, and you'd think they'd never eaten there. The menu is huge, there was 4 people and the only rec i got was 1 pasta off the special's menu. I should've realized why he had nothing else to recommend. We kept talking amongst ourselves wondering if they changed owners or what happened- based on the other recent negative comments something must have happened. A terrible representation of southern Italian food and a terrible experience especially for the price. When I reviewed this on Google the owner then commented back arguing about my experience as I see they have done with any other people here and on Google. If they spent more time improving staff and menus and food instead of arguing with people and proving the point about poor hospitality- maybe they wouldn't have to defend themselves as much. read more

We came here for a weekend dinner and it was packed! The interior has a lot of natural light and there are decorative balls on the ceiling that light up once it gets dark! We ordered a seafood mussel dish and a salad for our appetizer. The mussels were so delciiius and juicy! Next we ordered sea bass, seafood pasta, and a truffle oil mushroom pasta. Let me tell you. The sea bass was 15/10!!!!! So tender and buttery and flaky. I fell Inlove! We also got a flan like caramel flavored dessert. Overall, the service was amazing and the food was incredible! Located in the West Loop, this Italian spot is great for a nice dinner with friends or family or perhaps even a date. Stopped by around 5:30PM on a Friday night and there were plenty of table open, by the time we left however it was PACKED. They have indoor seating, a bar, and a patio. Definitely go for the patio seating if you can! It's a really cute space. Onto the good stuff, the fooooood. So delicious! They start you out with warm crust bread with olive oil and parmesan cheese. I had the Laganelle Tartufata, a pasta dish with truffle, mushrooms, sausage and the goat cheese which really makes the dish. We also had a cocktail which was very good, don't remember what it was something with Limoncello maybe? I may have been enjoying the food too much. For dessert we ordered the spumoni which was creamy and delicious! The service was great, they didn't pressure us at all even as we neared the 90 minutes they're limiting tables to at the moment. The restaurant is as I remember it before Covid - a pleasant dinning experience with delicious food and wine. Meeting friends here for a midweek dinner on a beautiful spring evening was a perfect. Wednesday is half off on selected bottles of wine, my chef friend selected a wonderful red one. It helped us ignore the occasional passing train above. In "hidden gem" territory for West Loop based on the menu but needs a lot of work. Waiter seemed relatively untrained and skirting the fence between very socially awkward and having smoked before coming to work. Table for two served two slices of a loaf of bread that were not fresh at all. Pasta in ceramic bowl was served scalding hot and was still barely edible after sitting for 10 minutes. This process needs to be refined. Received the wrong pizza. Wine decanter had not been cleaned properly and had visible smudges all over the top part. She knew very little about the menu, which led me to order a side of spinach when my entree also came with spinach.
