A small plate place with a tremendous punch. A menu full of eclectic options with their added twist. We started with shrimp and grits; served as squares with the shrimp ground into the polenta. Next we enjoyed the potatoes, roasted cauliflower, duck carnitas, squash and pork loin. Nothing came out as I would image but each dish presented a very unique experience - artistic like. The presentation was one of a kind with flavors that are out of this world. Service was also second to none. My experience with other tapas style restaurants is the meal takes excessively long due to the wait time between dishes. However, this was not the case. Within seconds of finishing a plate it was quickly removed and we never had to wait to order additional plates. Highly recommended! read more

Machete has made a name for itself in the greater Triad area and for a good reason. It is one of the BEST restaurants I have been to in a LONG time. Their rotating menu consists of extremely unique and beautifully plated dishes that cannot be found anywhere else. I opted for the Pork Ribs (chili, peanut, lime), Carpaccio (cured beef, spring pea, cucumber, beech), Duck Wings (twice-baked, sumac, pepper), and Pasta (lamb bacon, pecorino, hazelnut). Every item was FULL of flavor and left me wanting more. Machete specializes in tapas, so make sure you come with a large party to try as many dishes as possible! I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THE PASTA. The new fall 2024 menu is out of this world and we went on one of the first nights so it will just keep getting better which blows my mind. All the Hellraiser-themed cocktails are perfect for fall and I love that there are several non-alcoholic options. For food the little carrot tartlets are a great combo of sweet/spicy and I loved the savory funnel cake. I was brave and tried the escargot - really the dish is an excuse to eat garlic and butter and focaccia so I actually enjoyed it! Another standout were the foie gras donut holes. Just...there are no words. Order them for dessert with a sweet dessert wine for an amazing treat. As always, gorgeous atmosphere and phenomenal service. MACHETE chops it's way into the Greensboro foodie scene with the precision of a scalpel but the effectiveness of a chainsaw! I was fortunate to be a part of their soft opening last night along with some of the other reviewers who have already posted their thoughts, such as Jon B. and Janice M. From the moment you step in to the moment you step out, you are treated to a grand culinary experience. One that feels top of the mark without feeling snobby or pretentious. This isn't necessarily the place you'd come just to fill your belly, it's more a destination for expanding your palette and trying an excellent take on well... everything. I was at the same table as Jon B. and I'm sure our compatriots Stephanie R. and Steven E. will chime in shortly. We ordered a total of nine dishes, all of which come out "as ready" by kitchen design. It lends itself more to a family style enjoyment of your meal instead of individual plates. First up was the artichokes with shallots and black garlic. We knew we were in for a great night on first bite. Robust garlic flavor coursed through each morsel along with that trademark artichoke earthiness and vinegar. Next came the yellowfin tuna bites, which we all agreed we could have just eaten continuously all night. Think tuna tartar on a crisp similar in texture to a rice pop. It was fantastic. After that, on to roasted cauliflower with smoked tomato. This dish had everything you'd expect from a grilled cauliflower with touches of sweetness added by tomatillo and tomatos. The charcuterie board arrived to a large amount of fanfare, featuring 3 different types of cured meats, an excellent brie and bleu cheese along with a third cheese we could not quite identify. Other toppings were pickled onion, caramelized onion, ground mustard, and crispy bread to serve it on. It was honestly an excellent value, and again... visually stunning. After a brief carrot and spiced honey butter interlude that was also accompanied by crispy duros, we started receiving our meats, all three of which could not be more top of the mark. The smoked pork ribs were up first, and though I probably would have wanted a bit more of this meat for the price... I cannot argue that it was tender, flavorful, and overall amazing. I found myself desiring the bite force of a large reptile to crush through the bones and get at what I'm sure was the tasty marrow held within. The last two proteins... just divine. First came the sunburst trout which had a layer of creamy brie in the middle and a lentil/mushroom mixture that brought a hearty, almost red meat-like flavor to compliment some of the best fish I have EVER had. The texture and flavor of the trout has reset the bar on what I expect out of a flaky whitefish going forward. Finally, we capped things of with a sirloin featuring a thick layer of roasted mushrooms and brown gravy. The steak itself was tender, melt in your mouth, perfect. The mushrooms helped soak up a gravy that honestly... I would pour over just about anything savory you could bring me. It would make an awesome topping for a poutine dish (hint hint). And I found myself wanting a piece of bread to soak up every last drop of it. This has been a very long review... but the experience warranted it, both as a new establishment, and on the quality of the experience. I have ZERO doubt in my mind that MACHETE is about to become a top destination in the Greensboro food scene, and that you'll need to book meals there well in advance. So it's a nice place , friendly staff , I Ordered Cornish hen,came with pickles. it was good but it was like eating one small piece of fried chicken and its only side was 5 round pickle slices . I also ordered the fingerling potatoes. They said lightly fried I had more than one that were burnt to a crisp and they still served it . They definitely were considerate and removed it from my bill.Now the ones I did eat were good . The water they serve is just plan horrible I took one sip and almost spit it back in the glass , definitely would have if there were not so many people around . In all I left still hungry . If you're looking for a light meal and time to enjoy with friends , then possibly try the place out . I have so much to say about my experience at Machete. It's just that: an experience. I saw several reviews mentioning that the menu was confusing/intimidating. There was definitely some ingredients that I didn't recognize... however, the staff here at Machete are top tier- think of them as your spiritual guide! Our server Emma was absolutely fantastic! She explained the dishes with eloquence and I was so impressed with the depth of knowledge she had across the menu. I heard several other servers at nearby tables explaining the dishes as well. This is totally key! The staff is incredibly knowledgeable, ask for their recommendations! They will help simplify the menu and explain the ordering process. Everything comes out as it's ready, which worked out great. These tapas style plates are designed for sharing. There was not large gaps of time in between our dishes, but I also didn't feel rushed or overwhelmed. We really enjoyed how the food came out in "courses". We each ordered a cocktail which had incredible presentation, as everything does at Machete. These cocktails are tasty, creative and aesthetic is 10/10. We started off our food journey with the fried potatoes & kimchi dip. The potatoes were perfectly crispy on the outside, fluffy on the inside. The kimchi dip had a smoky gochujang flavor, and reminded me of an Asian style aioli. I am not a fan of actual kimchi, but I really enjoyed this! Our next course was the pork belly. It was served with a tart, fresh tomatillo sauce that perfectly complimented the tender, savory Sous vide pork. It had a great glaze and the char on the outside added the perfect crunchy texture. Next, we moved on to the Tagliolini. It was a rich, citrusy pasta with fresh cracked black pepper, red pepper flakes, and tons of aged Parmesan. It reminded me a lot of a cacio e Pepe, but with lemon notes. It was decadent! A beautiful grilled Coulette steak was next. I think this one is my favorite, but it's so hard to choose. The steak is NOT cooked to order, but it's delivered at a medium rare perfection. You NEED this cook temp to truly enjoy this cut as it should be enjoyed. Tender, flavorful, slight char from the grill. Paired with a smooth parsnip purée and crispy parsnip chips. Overall perfect execution in my book. Last, but ABSOLUTELY not least was the dessert! Holy smokes. Machete's take on a bananas foster was creative and perfectly cohesive. The most buttery, savory graham cracker crumbs, an indulgent rum sauce and a yeasted vanilla ice cream. The bananas are cooked Sous vide, and this dish was just incredible! I was previously concerned I might not be satisfied because of the size of the dishes, but you will not leave hungry. The size of the plates is actually PERFECT, it allows for optimal sampling of the menu! You can order several plates and the portions allow for you to try a multitude of amazing items and not leave miserably full. I was very satisfied when I left! Came here for a date night and I'm going to go against the grain here. This place is definitely interesting but maybe not my cup of tea. The servers are very attentive, Taylor was awesome through the entire experience. I started with sparkling water and a lavenderberry mocktail, which was a really good blend of citrus and lavender. We order several dishes, not necessarily to share, but with the pace at which everything came out, we shared it all! Word to the wise, everything that is in the dishes is not in the menu; if you want to know more ingredients, please ask your server as they are knowledgeable and very hospitable. We were quite surprised when the lettuce wraps came out, an interesting compilation of flavors (mushrooms, red onions, some type of sauce), I ended up completing that dish solo. Next up were the pork ribs, while the char was nice and they were very tender, they were topped with peanuts and green onions galore, in the top three of dishes we ate. They even provided warmed, most towels to wipe your fingers with; nice touch. The roasted cauliflower was really good topped with tomatillo sauce and A LOT of pepitas. The croquette has great flavor, great crunch on the outside, very tender short rib on the inside and came with a wonderful mustard sauce. The pasta with lamb bacon and peas was a really good dish, very flavorful, sorry no picture, this was devoured. Such a cute restaurant tucked in downtown Greensboro! And there's definitely a reason this spot landed #18 on Yelp's top 100 restaurants list. Food is amazing and service is spot one. Just don't make the same mistake I did and come starving so you can try as much as you can from the menu. I was lucky to experience the new winter menu. Ordered the hamachi, heirloom carrot, and duck wings. The hamachi was a fresh starter, with lots of umami to kick your tastes buds up a notch. The carrot was complemented by honey, yuzu, and cooling yogurt, which was the perfect complement to the slightly spicy duck wings. Oh man, don't get me started on the duck wings! First of all, the portion was much larger than I expected. The batter was unlike I've ever tasted before, crispy but airy, and the meat was so moist! Nothing worse than dry duck meat. And the hickory, chipotle and brown butter seasoning was to die for. It's one of those flavors that you just keep wanting more of. There is also a nice selection of cocktails, beer and wine to top off your dinner experience. Prices here are also very reasonable. My fiancé and I went last night and it was a great experience. We don't do fancy establishments much (our taste leans towards Taco Bell on a pinky's up night) but this was so much fun. Our servers explained each dish, gave recommendations and were genuinely so kind to us. Expect to pay a lot of course, but expect fantastic quality and really kind humans. We got wagyu, venison, duck wings, a cocktail for each of us and horchata mousse for dessert. My favorite was the wagyu, it was so soft and delicious and the sauce it comes with was so good. My fiancé preferred the venison, which comes with celery puree. The duck wings were delicious! And our cocktails were really interesting - he got a smoked Manhattan which smelled like a campfire and mine had foam on top with a little bit of chili powder. Dessert was ridiculously good. I have a massive sweet tooth and it hit all the right notes, from the pickled raspberries to the chocolate coated horchata mousse. I did prefer the previous seasons menu options more but tonight's options were great too - the peppers five ways (light and delicious with a hummus type filling) and the charred brassicas was our favorite dishes both of which are vegetarian plus the steak with the fondue was incredible, it comes MR but you can ask for it to be cooked more depending on what you prefer. They also offer plenty of beer and an extensive wine list - ours tonight was Tempranillo which is a Spanish red wine made in Cali that paired perfectly with the steak and cavatelli pasta dish (homemade pasta by the way)! Location is ideal especially for someone living in or near downtown. Plenty of street parking and easy access right off the road. And near other businesses - breweries/restaurants & the baseball field in the fisher park area that you can quickly walk to after if it's a dinner stop or even a cocktail stop with the night still young. What an experience! The food was amazing. One of my favorite meals. The staff was also excellent and service was impeccable. Im going to break down all the meals we had in order from our favorite starting at the top. It appears some of the menu items do change based off previous menus posted. 1. kurobuta pork collar : potato . manchego . seared foie: Pureed potatoes topped with perfectly cooked pork collar. The pork and foie were excellent and pair well with the manchego. Melts in your mouth. 2. crudo* : salmon . citrus . trout roe: Thinly sliced and lightly cured salmon in a light sweet smoky citrus sauce and topped with smoked trout roe and blood orange. Wow what a great combination of flavors. Hits every note and the citrus was well balanced. 3.duck wings : honey bbq: Larger portion. Duck is a darker meat and the honey bbq coating is excellent, just the right amount of smoky, sweet, savory and heat. This is a must! One side note is it is a little messy but worth it. 4. banana beignet : butterscotch . roasted banana: Just look at the photo for this one; it says it all. I mean wow. 5. blue crab : yuzu calamansi . sesame . cucumber: Light dish with a considerable amount of blue crab topped with thinly sliced cumbers on top. The crab and cucumber really stand out. 6. fernet menta malt bar : chocolate mousse . brownie brittle: Very good. The fernet menta really comes through. More of a soft brownie texture. Honestly I'd prefer a bit more crunch but that's personal preference. One thing to note is the dishes are smaller and I would recommend for a group or couple trying and sharing different dishes. The service is impeccable and the staff knows the menu inside and out. The delivery of plates is perfectly timed and each dish arrives with further explanation of exactly what it is and how it was prepared The food is inventive and meticulously prepared. It's executed to perfection and the flavor profiles are all over the place taking you deep into places you wouldn't have otherwise dreamed. As for drinks, this would be a designation even if they didn't serve food. Massive selection of Bourbon and drinks (Vieux Carre Manhattan (French 75, etc) were simply stellar. Honestly, I could live here... Alas, it's not perfect. It's expensive and the portions of each plate aremt overly generous but if that's what you're looking for why are you coming here? How impressed were we!! We didn't have reservations but were seated right away. The place wasn't too busy. I loved our seats, up against the street view. We ordered a couple of cocktails that came out right away. Our waitress was friendly I hardly had a second to look at the menu, as my boyfriend was quick to just list off like 10 different things. There's nothing I won't eat, so I was game. All the dishes are sharable, and we might have slightly over-ordered, but it was totally worth it to be able to try so many different things. We ordered the Lady Edison Country Ham, Puffed Tendon, Crudo, Brussels, Wagyu Tartare, Duck Wings, Smoked Pasta, and Grilled Wagyu. The puffed tendon really stood out to me because it was amazingly like nothing I've ever tried before. The ducks wings and country ham, just wow. We went here for an early Valentine's day dinner. The service was top notch! The server knew the perfect wine parings for the food. The atmosphere was nice,the music was at the right volume that it didn't feel awkward or too loud. I will say the front room was much warmer than the bigger room. So if you get cold easily ask to be sat in the front room. There were some dishes we liked a little less than others. For example, the duck breast and Tayberry panna cotta were absolutely divine but we were not a fan of the prawns. I was impressed that they brought us warmed lemon scented towels with the prawns, that was a nice touch. We got the Grilled Wagyu beef with shaved truffles added. It was a good steak but I don't know that the truffles really added anything to it but it was the first time I had ever tried real truffles so it was a nice experience. read more

The service is exceptional all the way around and when they make a mistake( like forgetting to put one of our dishes in) they rectified immediately and went out of their way to make sure we left happy! Make sure to try the Morrow, The Peppers 3 ways and the Chickpeas. No matter how intimidating the rest of the menu may seem, just go in with an open mind and get ready to indulge. The Bruschetta was out of this world and even though I think bread should usually be free, their homemade milk bread and butter was well worth the $7, it was so decadent and rich, yet sweet and savory. If you leave with out experiencing their home made( Cheeto Dust) encrusted Duck Wings I promise you will kick yourself for it. My fiancé and I hadn't been to Machete since one of our very early dates so we were excited to come back! On this day, they had only rolled out their new menu 4 days prior. We sat at the bar, I love to watch drinks being made. First, I absolutely loved my cocktail. It was called Kiyo Says it's Okay. The cinnamon stick really made the drink. For an appetizer we had the burrata and potato. The burrata was delicious. I was nervous because I don't love beets, but they weren't too earthy and went well with the burrata. The potato was simple but delicious. I loved how crispy it was. Next, we got duck wings. They were very flavorful and so filling that we ended up not ordering any entrees. We opted for dessert and I was in the mood for chocolate! The fernet menta malt bar hit the spot. I can't wait to come back again soon. Brian has the most patience ever! One member of our party had several questions about the restaurant and menu options. Food was awesome. The ambiance was a little loud for a Wednesday evening to the point we had to yell to each other. Overall had a great evening. read more
