I've been here a few times for lunch and to get a pastry. This time I was grabbing a pastry and drink. I've never ordered coffee from here so I thought why not try it. Their drinks menu isn't visible right when you walk in and I'm used to picking something from the window, so I asked if they made a certain coffee drink that most places make. The employee immediately responded to me in a loud voice "WE ARE NOT STARBUCKS!" I was shocked by how rude his response was and didn't offer me any other drink options instead. Instead of ordering the pastry and another drink I just stepped back said okay and walked out. Don't think I'm ever going back again, the bad service gives me a gross taste in my mouth whenever I think of them. read more

First - this place is in an unlikely location - which adds to the appeal. Second - pastries are awesome... I also bought a cake there for an office event. Delicious. While buying that cake. The pastries are incredible! The pumpkin muffin tasted like it was their own puree rather than store-bought and the orange-hazelnut pinwheels are as delicious as they are large. I'm rating a 4/5 rather than 5 stars because of the coffee. The first time, I ordered an iced americano and the espresso tasted burnt/very acidic, granted its quite difficult to pull a clean espresso shot in an iced drink. Met my boyfriend here for lunch. It is a small little bakery with a few tables inside to sit down and eat. I ordered the curry chicken salad and my boyfriend ordered a sandwich. My salad was fantastic. That chicken was crazy good. My boyfriend was very happy with his sandwich. Would highly recommend to stop in for a quick lunch! read more

I love Macrina's breads and pastries. Have had wonderful service at the Belltown and SoDo locations so I have no explanation for what's going on at this new Kent location. I've moved from Seattle and miss this bakery dearly so we made a point to come visit it now that's it's only a couple of miles from the corporate office. The parking is plentiful and the staff were cordial enough. We ordered two coffees and two Egg Bialy sandwiches, one with Dijon and one without. Everything was great until I noticed there's mustard on my sandwich. I approached the counter to ask about it and was told the sandwiches are pre-made and that she'd scraped as much as she could from it. She could scrape more if I wanted. No apology. If I'd had an allergy, would this be considered acceptable? I can't stand mustard so I only ate the eggs and bottom layer of bread for $8.25. I think there was mustard on the bottom two but I had to eat something. Didn't enjoy it. They were able to omit it completely at the Belltown location but this one has to save themselves some work so they can't accommodate requests like mine? We were going to buy some more breads afterwards, but were soured by this experience. Not a level of service I'd want associated with my name. We won't be visiting their Kent location again. PS Whoever the comedienne is who criticized me giving this place a bum review, props to you for being willing to pay for something you can't eat and somehow tie in starving children in Africa to boot! I know Macrina Bakery is pretty famous around Seattle, but in all honestly, it didn't impress me. I've passed the Kent location sign numerous times, but I always thought it was where they just made the bread, nothing more. One day, I decided to Yelp it, and realized it was a bakery/cafe shop you can actually dine in, or get to-go. Decided to try it that same day during lunch hour. It is hidden behind all these warehouse buildings, weird location. I ordered their carne half-sandwich and a small iced mocha. The mocha was so small that it was the depth of my car's cup holder and it was hard to get out! The coffee was super strong, not much "mocha" flavor- for some reason I tasted some cinnamon in it. I even asked them to add more ice, just to water it down a little. The sandwich was ehh, took out most of the ingredients, so I was left with pretty much just the meat, which wasn't even a lot. Pretty expensive for the portion sizes you get. Probably won't return. read more

Their breads are the best in the area! The brioche loaves and house loaf (half sourdough starter) never disappoint, as with their olive loaves. Fridays have special parmesan ham biscuits which are always inhaled. I've tried their chocolate cake and banana cream pie - the chocolate banana cream pie is even better than Apple Pan's (!!) I think for ten loaves you get one for free, and if you buy six rolls it counts as as a loaf. The only thing I've ever been disappointed with were their pretzel buns (it didn't have that dipped-in-lye crust I was looking for). Vanilla sugar is my primary reason for coming to Macrina. Coffee is good but nothing special. But you put that vanilla sugar in there and BAM...magic. The baked goods are just average. I have tried several different baked items here that vary from bagels to pastries. My experience has been that they always look far better than they actually taste unfortunately. read more

I had the Bialy Sandwich with the bacon and it was excellent. The egg was cooked perfectly and all the flavors all accented each other nicely. The staff was really attentive and timely. I loved their display of bread loaves behind the counter and they had a sample of some bread and jam & it was good. Put simply one of my favorite bakeries and all of Seattle area. The breads are wonderful the pastries delightful and the croissants are near perfection at least outside of France is concerned. I've always been super impressed with the staff and their friendliness and helpfulness and I think I filled up two or three Punch Cards for bread that I get as gifts. I came into the bakery attached to the Kent plant and was disappointed when I was told that they had run out of the breakfast sandwiches I wanted. I made a 2nd choice and they said okay. Then came back and told me there was only 1 available. When I got to the cashier and paid for my order I was told that they had forgotten to charge me for a sandwich. I said okay but asked for a slight discount for all the trouble getting the order I wanted and was told that they can't do that. Ordered a cake - 2 days advance notice. Chocolate with chocolate butter cream frosting. The cake tasted days old-the frosting was hard and came off in pieces. really disgusting. The only thing worse was that I paid $40 for it 2 days in advance-my advice-stick to the bread which is good and go elsewhere for cakes. read more

I was excited to try out the new location. It's more convenient for me & now I'll be making this location a frequent stop. The location is tricky...you have to drive into the industrial complex to find it, but once you do, you'll be back....very clean & easy to order, coffee is strong. Nice to have a local, non-Starbucks, alternative. The pastries are excellent & a few savory items for lunch. Perhaps, if enough of us ask, they will open on the weekends & offer a brunch :). If I could I would give them no stars. Was told I can not be served because I was not wearing a face mask. Even after telling the person working at the café that I have a medical exemption. Afterwards I even explained my medical condition and he still refused to give me service. Macrina should teach their employees the correct way to handle these situations. They are allowed to say they require mask but no one can make you wear it. Especially in my case I can not wear a face covering. Before the pandemic I was a loyal customer but after today they do not deserve my business anymore. read more

Ugh! Sandwich with beef was so tough it was inedible. Soup you could only taste oregano. Expensive for what you got even if it was edible. Counter person said she would relay that the sandwich wasn't good but no offer for any compensation or even a cookie. Won't return. read more

I myself have never actually visited this bakery, however my coworkers often visit there and brings stuff to share with the office. Every time she has brought something back I am pleasantly pleased with the tasty treats, everything from croissants, scones, cookies, and most recently a squash purée bread. We came and initially thought the food looked great. We ordered one grilled Beechers cheese sandwich with 2 cups of the split pea! The grilled sandwich was not ozzing but dry and had less than one slice of cheese and we got broth with 2 onion slices floating on top. I requested the girl to bring pea soup like the sign on the counter still said and she said no . What an expensive disappointing meal! Save your money and go else where. read more

I've been to the Kent location a few times now. LOVED the pumpkin ravioli. Huge portion size and so flavorful. Loved the nuts and cheese in the ravioli dish. Perfect for a cold, fall day. The bakery is always stocked with pastries that looks like art. My one complaint - the mocha. It tasted awful. Tasted like gritty unsweetened chocolate in an Americano. It was also served in a tiny cup (close to a starbucks kids hot chocolate size) for $5! Incredibly overpriced. Besides the espresso experience, I'm a big fan of the food and pastries. This bakery was suggested by our hotel receptionist and it is located in a commercial area. To our surprise it was spotless clean with variety of pastry options. We had a cappuccino and some pastry for breakfast. Everything was delicious even our coffee and I'm picky when it comes to my coffee.
