Just a heads up, if you come here 30 minutes before they close, they will not make any coffee beverages (lattes, cappuccinos, etc.) as they will have already shut down the espresso machines. I suppose the staff have to leave right at closing time for the business to save profit. Also, they're not dog friendly, which is totally okay with me but figured I'd mention it in case anyone walks their dogs to their local coffee spot! I've been in Seattle about 24 hours now and I've already been to this bakery twice! We are staying in an Airbnb just next-door and so I definitely had to try this place out. I stopped here in the morning and got some pastries, breakfast sandwiches, and a coffee...all of which were incredibly delicious. Then, in the afternoon I stopped here to see what kind of sweet treats they had placed out, and I picked up for myself a slice of passion fruit cake (so good!) and for my boyfriend a mini cheesecake with blueberries. Both were wonderfully good. We are in Seattle for about another 48 hours, and I definitely see myself stopping here again at least once! Go here if you're in the area! read more

While I personally didn't dine in at this location..my coworker brought in a full box of baked good from here and they blew my mind. Not only was there such a variety of delicious creations, they looked so fresh and were all artisanally made. My two favorites that I devoured for breakfast was their buttermilk biscuit with strawberry and an asiago ham pastry that was so savory and delicious. I also tried one of their signature cookies that was gluten free and stuffed with I think it was a blackberry jam and holy crap.. who knew I could love a gluten free pastry so much. It was light yet flaky, and the center of jam was just the icing on the cake. I must go here again and buy all of these goodies again because they were incredible. read more

There is also a bakery in the back where they push out different varieties and sell baked goods as well. We stopped here for a light breakfast (pastries and coffee) but found ourselves wondering again for snacks in the afternoon. Where would you find me most of the time? I'm either in pastry shops or in the woods... Must try pastries: - Apple turnover (hubs favorite) - Banana Walnut Bread - Roly Poly I loved their hot tea selections and their coffee was great. So delicious. My bf and I came in on a Friday and were sad that they didn't have the salmon bialy. I have been eyeing it but sadly... it's only available on the weekends. Conveniently located near my old apartment, Macrina has outdoor seating, which makes it easy to stop by for a quick breakfast with the dog. It's a popular neighborhood spot so there can be quite a line and a bit of a wait to get food. The Bialy Egg Sandwich is tasty! The boo likes the quiches, but I find them to be a bit dry and bland. The staff isn't particularly friendly, but we've also only been here when it's been busy so I imagine they're just trying to get through the line. Macrina Bakery & Cafe was a detour during my Weekend in Seattle. A choice between going up the Space Needle or drinking Macchiato alone at Macrina. Of course I opt for my speciality: having some chill time with a cup of espresso drink. The interior is divey but cozy. The baked goods just looked so good! I just wish I did not have to go for lunch in less than 15 minute! I knew I wanted something "sweet" dessert like but of coarse when I got my sliced almond bourbon infused deliciously flavored buttermilk waffles! Delicious! (It was a little over cooked), however I drizzled on a little maple syrup and waited a bit and it was perfect! Please know the menu changes weekly on the top part of the menu, which kind of makes me want to keep coming back! I ordered a side of scrambled eggs hard, delicious buttery and perfect! It was a great combo! My friend shared their chicken sausage (made in house), oh my, wait was it? Ok idk, don't quote me, however it was might goooodddd! This place has delish pastries and sandwiches. I haven't tried their coffee, so I can't rate it. However, when I went staff was helpful, friendly, and patient with my indecisiveness. I also didn't stay to eat there as I was in a rush to get somewhere. However, it was a Saturday and about 11am and there was plenty of seating, granted they do have a small & limited seating area. Nonetheless, I'll come back for whole experience and coffee tasting. My first introduction to Macrina was through Amazon Fresh, which used to carry their products. Something which I am sad to see go away, but that is to be saved for another review. Anyways, I was introduced to the glorious brioche loaf. It is a soft loaf which is buttery good, makes good toast and tastes even more excellent with a piece of melted brie. Since I longer can get this loaf delivered to my front door, I travel to Macrina for it. The Belltown location is convenient being right on 1st Avenue, though inconvenient in that street parking is your only bet. There is a cafe area of the restaurant, but which I yet to try. However the pastries and loaves that I have tried here are good. The Italian plum roll is delicious albeit pricey and the rosemary loaf was great sandwich material as it is focaccia like. And I did find the brioche loaf here so I can have the buttery goodness albeit having to travel to Seattle for it. I guess that is a good thing tummy wise. Thumbs up for Macrina. read more

I didn't know that this bakery is also a sit down eatery. I've had their pastries before and they never disappoint. Came here for Sunday brunch, it's a sorta small seating area, so there was a little bit of a wait. But if you didn't want to wait, the walk up bakery counter is literally next to it- which can make the entry way feel a little too crowded. There are weekend brunch specials, that all looked so yummy. I tried their black cherry mimosa on special. And decided on something off of their regular menu- the salmon bialy (which I think is something to do with the brioche bread). The sandwich was delicious- like a bagel with locks and cream cheese, but upgraded to a fancier bagel and creme fraiche and onions. Definitely a quintessential Belltown eatery. read more

It took me awhile, but I finally had the opportunity to have brunch at Macrina. I admit, it was frustrating to try to get a table inside this infamous bakery/cafe. From my experience, this place was always PACKED with a long wait. Although the front of the place gets congested with people waiting for a table and customers walking in to just buy pastries, its actually pretty comfy to dine in. While my date and I were waiting for a table, we decided to split a fruit and yogurt tart. My goodness, that tart was amazing! The yogurt had a custard-like texture, which I fell in love with. I could eat a slice of that tart for breakfast everyday. Once we got seated, I ordered the salmon scramble which was perfect in terms of size and flavor. The eggs were nice and fluffy (not overcooked) and the onion bialy was tasty. Of course, the salmon lox was delicious. I like the potatoes and wished there was a bigger serving of that. 5 start treatment to my friend and ex colleague and I. I haven't see my friend since she moved from San Diego to Portland a couple of years ago. Coincidentally we both were in Seattle the same day at the same time, so what is best thing to do for 2 old good pals to do that catch up over a cup of coffee and some pastries? Macrina's make me break all my breakfast rules. I dream of Macrina's perfected ham and cheese brioche. Slightly warmed, this devilish breakfast option makes me melt every time I get one. It's a perfect balance of everything that is amazing. Soft buttery tones from the brioche, a bit of crunch from the baked brioche crust, tender savory ham and delicious gruyere cheese. Amazing. The service here is hit and miss, but the food you get there is always worth it. Count on finding a line all the way to the door on most mornings. read more

Hmm...nice place with a laid back ambience. Large variety of breads and bakery items to choose from. I tried the orange hazelnut pinwheel and chocolate croissant ( they call it something else). The pinwheel way too sweet and sugary for my taste. The croissant was alright nothing too fancy. I think I like the baked goodies at la panier much better. The other not so pleasant thing was that the cashier was complaining to his coworker that how the earlier person left only 50cent tip for a $7.50 bill for the baked goods. All the guy at the counter did was literally take two items out from the case, put it in paper bag and hand it over. Do you really expect a heavy duty tip for this ? I shall try this place for lunch someday and hopefully update the ratings for better. read more

During my trip in Seattle, one morning i wanted to go for Brunch. Depending on the all trusty Yelp, i had found this place, and it was pretty near the sights i wanted to visit during the day. Nice and quaint place. One side being a bakery, and another side being their restaurant. The weather was beautiful this day so the window was open. There was a lot of people waiting but i didn't believe (still cant really believe that i waited about 1 1/2 hours for a table). Aside from the wait, we were greeted by our waitress. She was nice and helpful. Gave some nice suggestions. The things we had ordered were as follows: Wild Berry Mimosa Bread w/ a strawberry jam (self-made or local) Brioche French Toast Some fried egg and salsa sandwich Market Special (omelette) Actually, i think the bread n jam came with everyone's order. So technically it wasn't ordered but its still worth the mention. Their bakery being right next to the restaurant, shows their bread is self made. The jam, I am not sure if they make it themselves, but it was delicious. Bright vibrant red color, fresh and sweet. The wild berry mimosa was interesting. This was the first time i've ever ordered an alcoholic drink for breakfast/lunch/brunch. I figured, being on vacation, why not? Looked very nice and had a fresh raspberry floating on top. Not strong, definitely can taste the berry flavor. Barely taste, if any alcohol. Brioche French Toast - ooh this was the interesting one, and most looked forward to. Unfortunately the waitress had informed us about running out of sausages, so bacon is substituted, then the sauce was not the original sauce, so they made a grape sauce. Either way, still delicious. Not too much a fan of bacon but bacon is bacon. Nothing to talk about. The grape sauce was delicious. Not too sweet, not too overpowering. Bite size cut of brioche with the sauce and whipped cream with a little syrup on top. YUM ! Definitely something i'd recommend anyone to get, if you were to come here. The market special. This was an interesting one. Omelette with a light herb cream sauce on top with potatoes and a little toast on the side. The omelette was light and fluffy. Together with the herb cream sauce on top, was nice. Not overly seasoned, so overall this dish was pretty light compared to the previous brioche french toast dish. The fried egg, salsa sandwich thing. The restaurants menu changes daily or weekly so i was not able to recover the name of this dish, unfortunately. Bad habit of not getting a picture of the menu down (lesson learned). Sandwich with a side of potatoes. Honestly, nothing too special. Fresh salsa on top of an egg. in a sandwich form. I mean it was good. But if you want something unique, i wouldnt get this one. Overall, experience was pretty good. Especially with the weather being perfect and sunny. Being sat next to the window was nice. Would have gave this 5 stars except the wait was a bit long. I guess it couldn't be helped when it was during lunch time but almost didnt get seated until brunch was over. Food wise, it was pretty good overall. Nice place to visit. Parking was a pain in the butt because it was a sunday so free parking everywhere. Took maybe 15 minutes to find a parking spot like 2-3 streets down and up. Semi close by Pikes Place. read more
