Stopped by on Sunday around 1pm. for lunch. Only 4 tables were occupied, the rest of the restaurant had plenty of empty tables. No one to be seen at the hostess desk- asked waiter to be seated, he responded that I have to wait for Adriana to be seated, waited 10 minutes for hostess. When Adriana showed up, she asked if we had a reservation- I told I was trying to reach the restaurant for last hour and a half and they never picked up the phone. She responded that they are fully booked and have no available tables because all tables were reserved. Total BS - Really wanted to check this place out, but reading the previous reviews I understand that turning customer's away is their habit. If you like to go by reservation only, make it possible to make the reservation- either pick up the phone or make it available on Yelp to reserve a table. read more

Mad & Vin is the bar/restaurant at The Landsby, a stylish hotel with a sleek, contemporary aesthetic in the heart of Danish cutesy-town Solvang. I guess this makes sense, now that I think of it. Whatever Denmark looked like when Solvang decided to steal its look, Copenhagen is known for its modern design now. June K. and I went to Mad & Vin for a happy hour drink during a Monday visit to town. I think the actual restaurant space was being renovated, but the menu was available pretty much everywhere else on the lobby floor--in the entrance area, the back bar, and the patio, all very attractive places to sit and drink. There were no seats in the bar area when we got there around 5:00, so we started in the patio and moved inside when a table opened up, as it was kind of cold and windy out. Service was great, though, even when we were outside and sort of out of sight. There was a nice dog out there with us, too. We ended up getting full-price cocktails instead of ordering off the limited happy hour menu--seemed silly to pay $7 for a well drink instead of $12 for a fancy cocktail when we'd driven all the way from L.A. The drinks were tasty. I got the Farmers Fizz, a light, fragrant cocktail of with Plymouth Gin, strawberry shrub, lemon, rhubarb bitters, basil, and egg white. June got the Smokey Horizon, which was sweet and spicy, made with Sombra Mezcal, pineapple shrub, orgeat, lemon, and jalapeño. We had a lovely, relaxing time at Mad & Vin. It seems to be the hip place to drink here, and I'd probably go pretty often if I lived in the area. I'd recommend it if you're looking to get a good cocktail in a modern Danish pocket of Solvang. read more

We've done drinks and appetizers/dessert in the bar. All are top shelf. Our most recent trip we stayed at The Landsby and had drinks down in the bar. The bartenders are fantastic. The Mad & Vin side is perfect as well. The star this recent visit was the banana bread pudding. Perfect first bite to last, so much so that it blew away our high expectations. Try it; you won't be disappointed. The bar area itself is very comfy, with TVs for those interested in Monday Night Football to a quiet corner to chat to a spot out by a fire pit. I came here for father's day lunch. First, I love the hotel's lobby. The decor is my style and is Danish modern (or at least what I think is Danish modern). You can choose to sit out on the patio or inside. It was nice out so we decided to eat on the patio. I have the Santa Ynez burger which I enjoyed. My only complaint was that I asked for it medium rare and it came medium or more where it had dried out a bit and there was no juice/blood when I cut into the burger to cut it in half. The fries were very good. My mother in law really enjoyed the prime rib sandwich. I would go back. The mimosa flight looked tasty. Our server Sherry was very friendly. read more

Mad & vin is sooo cute! I have had 3 great brunches here. Always slow when I've gone and I'm not sure why because this place is a gem!

If I could give them zero stars I would. We stopped in with another couple on Sunday night about 8:15 for a drink. Our friends visit frequently and love it. The restaurant/bar was empty. The hostess was not friendly at all. She asked if we had reservations. We said no & her reply was "we are fully committed". We thought we heard her wrong. My friend questioned her and another rude response. For a place to turn away business was shocking to us. We took our business up the street to a bar that was busy, welcomed us & provided great service. read more

Our meal was so amazing I forgot to take pictures!! My hubby and I went on a little weekend getaway to Solvang and I was tasked with finding a restaurant that could accommodate GF for me and Vegan options for our friend. I was thrilled to find that not only did they accommodate both but they were also right across the street from where we were staying. The service was amazing, we wanted for absolutely nothing. We all ordered cocktails, I had the salmon, my husband had a burger and my friend had a vegan bowl. The prices were a little on the higher side but the food was delicious and worth every bite. They also had a gluten free dessert that I had to make sure I saved room for. 10/10 recommend if you want something a little different than the local danish food. read more

Food is ok. Walked in Sunday morning to an empty lobby with no hostess or any workers to be seen. Did see other diners so wandered in this random guy came and just said "just seat yourselves" I liked the food a lot and one of the servers was very kind. Had accidentally spilled some water and he was very helpful in getting it cleaned up and making sure with us that everything was ok. I really wish he worked somewhere else. Had some leftovers so we asked for boxes so we can take it back to the hotel and feed our daughter. When asked, she responded with "for that???" walks away and comes back with 15 boxes and drops them on table. What is a beautiful restaurant with good food when service is such. read more

Decided to spend the weekend in Solvang which meant our usual stop for brunch at Mad & Vin. I was hesitant given the price increase and the fact we had to pay for every side separately last time we were here. BUT I was extremely delighted to see they added the duck fat fries back to the California Benedict order and the bacon back to the brioche French toast. Amazing food and great service! The New York steak In medium was delicious, the accompanying vegetables was even enjoyed by my 10-year old. A glass of Agua Santa went really well with the steak. The calamari was the best we've ever had, with the fried thinly sliced lemon, jalapeños and onion pieces great accompaniments. We also had the short ribs, which were very tender. Short rib dinner was excellent. great portion, amazing flavor & meat so soft it was falling off the bone. Only reason for less than 5 stars due to an almost empty restaurant when we arrived & we were told they may not be able to seat us unless we could have the table clear in 2.5 hrs. That was an easy task for us so we agreed and we're seated. Couple next us seemed to keep complaining about how empty the place was and they wanted a particular table & kinda ruined our atmosphere with their negativity. I confess that we didn't order much food, but I was pretty happy with our meal. My group shared the bucatini, Brussels sprouts, and ceviche. The bucatini was my favorite and it was delicious. So flavorful and rich but not too much and the texture was perfect. The Brussel sprouts were perfectly cooked and flavored. I love everything about this restaurant. It's located in the Landsby, which is the cutest little modern hotel in Solvang. We had happy hour drinks and apps in the bar before being seated at our table for dinner. I would definitely recommend the calamari, fresh pasta (we ordered two!), and seafood hot pot, which were some of our favorites. My friends and I visited a dozen restaurants and eateries during our stay, and this one was by far a highlight of our trip. read more

This is a wonderful place to dine if you can afford it a nice evening out (= $$$). We would've loved to have tried the happy hour, especially since there was music, but we got there just after HH was over. Our server was super sweet and attentive. We had a nice bottle of Cru Albarino and shared the calamari and the shrimp ceviche. Both were fantastic. The ambience was pleasant, despite close to the door to the kitchen and having another small table next to us, but at least we were seated at a 4-top that allowed us to sit a little away from the couple next to us, so at least we didn't feel like our conversation would be eavesdropped on. We would definitely recommend it and go back to try the HH bar experience with live music. read more

Enjoyed an early dinner of light appetizers. The calamari was one of my favorites with battered and fried jalepeno, lemon slices and sweet onions. The sliders we ok, a bit overcooked so that created a dry burger (order these medium rare). We are french fry and pomme fritte snobs so these fries ranked high on our list. Wonderful! The food was outstanding. The Brussels sprouts were so delicious with the sweet bourbon maple, creamy creme fraiche and salty prosciutto. Finally got to try this place after 3 attempts. The previous 2 times we were in Solvang, they had private events going on. Anyway, my wife and I went with another couple and we ordered family style so we could taste as much of the menu as possible. They have a nice list of craft cocktails and they also have a decent whiskey selection. The wine list is concise with lots of local makers. The food was good. The menu is somewhat rustic with California influences. Most dishes had clean flavors and were executed well. Service was great and the prices are on point. We like to stay at the quirky hotel across the street, so I hope we can re-visit here the next time. read more

I would have loved to provide this establishment with five stars, but the service from our waiter held it back. We were seated in the bar area, were I could see our waiter walk by our table repeatedly to take care of the party of 6 , who spared no expense (he couldn't mess up that tip). Or he was hanging at the end of the bar waiting for drink orders and chatting with co-workers. As for us... I had to speak up as he hurried past our table to get the chance to order food/drinks.
