Bland food and sticky tables. The food was absolutely bland and flavorless. I had a noodle and seafood dish. The noodles were rubber bands and the seafood was straight out of a frozen food bag. The salad was a head of ice berg lettuce not chopped up with a tomato slice, and onion slice and a smattering if raisons. The raisons were good. The tables are are-all very sticky. The menu Is large but you order up at the register Not good- I've given two start in the hopes that they may turn it around. The place could be good. The idea is good. The execution is awful. Shame

I think this Thai place is overall pretty great. It is conveniently located on UT Austin campus as I visited for Halloweekend, and I believe it is a good spot to enjoy Thai food whenever a student craves it. I went with my friend, and we both got Thai Teas. I got the Beef Pad See Ew as my main dish, and my friend got Pad Thai(vegetarian). Unfortunately, they ran out of mango sticky rice which was something we wanted to get. The thai tea is very solid and tastes like one of the better thai teas I've had. The pad see ew took a bit of time compared to the pad thai, but it umami, but it felt really oily. I could taste a strong wok hay, but the texture of the pad see ew was a bit hard like it was slightly undercooked. Although the texture was enjoyable at first, it made it harder to chew. Overall, it was a solid dish and I really liked it!

Probably the worst Thai food experience I've ever had... Everything is self service so you have to get all your silverware and plates yourself. But let's talk about the food... major disappointment! The crab fried rice was incredibly salty. The papaya salad did not taste nor look authentic at all. The Pad Thai was alright actually. NS14 was probably my favorite dish. The broth was flavorful and I liked the chewy noodles. The worst thing I had however was the pad see ew. This is one of my favorites to order but it tasted way too much like kikkoman soy sauce which is my least favorite soy sauce brand of all time. I couldn't detect any other flavors besides the soy sauce and they used different noodles from what you would typically find in your usual pad see ew dish. It was a disgrace to all other pad see ew dishes. I'm going to hope that this location is just an outlier and that the other ones in Austin are better...

I went to Madam mam's today with my family and it was fire. service was also an absolute heater. I ordered the spicy basil fried rice and it was hella good. As an indian i've built up a spice tolerance and this lived up to it as i was sweating with a big smile on my face. good food and W vibes.

Our food came out quickly and was hot and amazing. Don't skip out on this location just because it's close to campus! Tried a Green Thai Tea for the first time and it was absolutely amazing and going to get it next time.

Had so much fun with my friend and the food hit the spot ! Beautiful restaurant and ambiance. Street Fried Rice and Guay Teaw Kua Gai was well seasoned and super nostalgic. Also shared wings and cozy wok fried eggs and they were fried to perfection. Friendly staff and the food came out fast! If you're in wampus and craving some hearty thai food def would recommend checking out Madam Mams

The last time we ate here was 2 years ago and the experience was night and day. Firstly, the restaurant is almost fully self-serve now. You have to grab your own menu, fill your own water, and order up front. The only time we interacted was when they brought out our food. I don't think it was fair to tip 20% when we did almost everything ourselves. The food wasn't very good either, we got the same dishes we had 2 years ago and were met with disappointment. I ordered the Tom Kha soup and the mushrooms were super dirty, I could tell they were unwashed when cut and put in the soup because just rubbing them with my spoon got some of the dirt off and it tasted like granules of sand, crunchy. There was also 2 pieces of plastic, seemingly from a clothing tag or something in the soup which I did not notice until reheating the leftovers. The ambiance was ruined for us due to all the inconsistencies, we were expecting a better experience like we had a couple years ago. Honestly don't know what happened to this place because it used to be super good but we won't come back because I don't want to get sick eating unwashed veggies. :( After writing this review, I found another piece of plastic in my food and attatched the image. Don't eat here, you will probably get sick!

After landing in San Antonio yesterday to kick off my summer vacation, the very first thing I did…read moretoday was ask my friend to bring me back to this restaurant. The reason is simple: we ate here two years ago, and it left such a great impression on us that we had been looking forward to coming back ever since. Fortunately, not much has changed in terms of either the quality or the overall presentation of the food. Everything is still delicious, especially the Pho Combo. To be honest, it's far better than most of the pho we've had in Germany. That doesn't mean the pho in Germany is bad--it simply means this place matches my personal taste much better. As for the downsides, they're almost exactly the same as before. Parking is still a major challenge, and I understand that's probably not something the restaurant can easily fix. We also tried calling ahead to reserve a table, but they don't take reservations, whether you're coming with a group of 5-7 people or just 2-3 people. We arrived at 6:45 PM and still had to wait about 40 minutes before being seated, which was honestly quite inconvenient. Coincidentally, there was live music tonight, which was a nice surprise. Unfortunately, the sound system wasn't very good, so it was difficult to hear what the singers were performing. Then again, this isn't really the type of venue where people come specifically to enjoy live music, so most diners didn't seem to pay much attention to it. One thing I did notice was that either the kitchen has made a few changes over the past two years, or perhaps my own taste has changed a little. The food felt slightly saltier than I remembered, and the pho broth was richer and creamier. While that added some depth of flavor, it was a bit too rich for my liking, to the point where finishing the entire bowl of broth felt a little overwhelming. The braised short ribs were incredibly tender--so tender that a knife was almost unnecessary, and they could easily be pulled apart with just a fork. While many people would probably see that as a positive, I actually missed the slightly firmer, meatier texture I remembered from my last visit. That said, these are relatively minor issues. The quality may have dipped just a little compared to our previous visit, but this is still an excellent restaurant. If they can fine-tune those small details, it would easily return to being one of my favorite places. There's a good chance we'll stop by one more time before heading back to Germany.

Is it that time of year for another 1618 update? Absolutely…read more After my umpteenth visit, I think it's safe to say I've worked my way through almost the entire menu (minus a few noodle, chicken & vegetarian dishes). My 2025 review still stands, but after so many visits, I've noticed a few items haven't been good as they used to, particularly the chicken wings (and yes, all three of them). The Garlic Wings haven't been hitting quite the same. They've started to taste a little dry, and the saucier wings taste better the next day since they don't have time to steep through once served. The Filet Mignon Pepper Steak is still my favorite dish on the menu, but I still can't justify ordering it family-style anymore. It's delicious, but the portion just doesn't match the price. One of the newest additions--the Truffle Fried Rice is spectacular. It's light, not overpowering with truffle, and the fish eggs really adds the perfect little pop of texture/flavor. I don't think I breathed the entire time I scarfed it down!! 1618 is still one of my favorite restaurants in Austin of all time, but I think it's time for the menu to elevate a bit and dive deeper into less mainstream Asian cuisine. If anyone can do it, 1618 can.

The menu is pretty extensive too, so it was easy for everyone to find something they were excited about. I had the Tum Tad salad, which was super fresh and flavorful with a nice balance of tangy and savory. For dessert, the mango sticky rice was a standout. It was made with a black rice that actually looked kind of blue, which made it really visually fun. The restaurant itself has a lot of indoor and outdoor seating, as well as a bar. It seems like a nice place to have a meal. As for the food, we ordered: Pad thai with chicken, mild spice - unfortunately this was a bit dry for me, though the taste was good. Pad see ew with chicken - I liked their version and would probably get it again. Pad woon sen with pork - typically my favorite noodle dish and I think they did a good job. Garden roll - good but not as packed as others I've had, and at a higher price point. Pineapple fried rice with pork - I liked this but was a bit on the oily side. Tom kha soup - I thought this was very good and had a decent amount of chicken and mushrooms Overall I liked everything but some items I felt I had better versions of elsewhere. It's also on the pricier side. Still, if in central Austin I think it's a solid choice for Thai food.

So when I found out they opened a brick-and-mortar location, I knew I had to come back. I re-ordered their Killer Noodles and loved how they kept that fun food truck feel in the presentation. There were so many new dishes that caught my eye, but I immediately gravitated toward the Creamy Crab Curry and it was absolutely the right choice. The curry was rich, creamy and packed with flavor while the fried soft-shell crab was perfectly cooked and added a great texture to the dish. Honestly, it's the kind of meal I could see myself ordering every week. My partner went with the Lost Recipe, which looked just as delicious. You can never really go wrong with fried chicken, and this version certainly didn't disappoint. The service was equally impressive. Our server was friendly, attentive and checked in regularly throughout the meal. She even brought us a complimentary crab pastry to try, which was a thoughtful touch and much appreciated. One thing to note this place gets busy, especially during lunch so plan accordingly. That said, the food and service are well worth it and the menu is reasonably priced. Kiin Di has successfully made the jump from food truck to full-service restaurant and it's definitely earned a spot on my regular rotation.
