This is a great breakfast spot especially if you have a sweet tooth! During this visit, I tried the green chilaquiles with steak and shared a pistachio waffle. Both were delicious especially with an Abuelita (chocolate) latte. The service is great here and our server (I apologize for forgetting her name) was very pleasant. Came here on a summer weekend and it was HOT inside. There was a large party seated next to us so we waited a bit before we got water or our orders taken. Other than taking our orders, bringing us our food, and giving us our bill, the staff didn't really check in on us. Food (and drink) itself was underwhelming to say the least. We got the Popeye and Chilango omelettes and a strawberry horchata. The food is delicious. I got the Chilequiles Verde and it is a star dish. A bit too much tortilla chips but that is just me. Steak topped and very good. The green salsa is obviously in-house and the chopped onions were freshly cut and good as well. The bed of beans on the plate was perfectly seasoned and just enough to be hearty but not too filling. I got a single pancake as a side and it was fluffy and well seasoned too. I ordered a cortado and it was beautiful and very good as well. Now. My only criticism for this 2nd time here is the wait. The service staff are very nice, very attentive, but it would help for this place to get a bar to seat parties under 2 quicker. Waited almost an hour to be seated when initially quoted a 20-30min wait time. I saw at least 2 other waiting parties just leave due to the wait. This has been one of the most anticipated food spots on my list for a while, and let me tell you, it did not disappoint. It's advisable to join the waitlist on Yelp at least an hour or 30 minutes before arriving, but the wait wasn't too bad. The service was excellent; the server was very friendly and offered great suggestions from the menu. The atmosphere is very cool, and the interior was clean. There's plenty of street parking and nearby attractions, including a movie theater next door, which is convenient if you want to stay in the area after enjoying delicious food. Now, onto the food. I tried the Journey Pancakes, which were amazing--warm, tasty, and they definitely lived up to the hype. It's quite a challenge to finish all the pancakes because the portion is generous. The crispy hash browns were perfectly seasoned and crunchy, which I thoroughly enjoyed. The Nutella was delicious, especially if you're a chocolate lover. PARKING: If y'all have been to Uptown Whittier, y'all already know it's either street parking or one of those big parking lots. There's plenty of streets and parking lots so it wouldn't be a problem to get a space. SEATING: It was pretty busy. But we were immediately sat down. The inside of the restaurant is so pretty! Plenty of seating and such cute decorations. Where I sat, they had artwork painted on the walls and a couple of TVs playing techno/house/EDM. It was a cool vibe. SERVICE: Super friendly and super helpful staff! They gave us plenty of time to look over the menu and also tell us about the monthly specials. As I'd never been here before, I really appreciated that they took the extra time to go over the menu because there were so many great options. FOOD: I ordered the iced chai latte ($6.00) with soy milk ($0.50) and The One with an over easy egg ($22.00). The One was a breakfast sandwich that had one egg, beef birria, pickled onion, and pork rinds topped with a Mexican cheese blend and cilantro. It also came with consomé and country potatoes. The drink was good! Pretty standard chai latte. No complaints there. The sandwich however was outta this world! The bread was so crisp and everything on the inside worked so perfectly well. The only downside was that the potatoes and the consomé were luke warm compared to the piping hot sandwich. However, the sandwich was just that good, I didn't mind after. Just a really tasty sandwich!! OVERALL: Great fun place with great food and drinks! Definitely would love to come by to try out the whole menu because everything sounded so tasty! Extremely Disappointed -- Would Not Recommend I was really looking forward to trying Madras Brunch in Whittier, but my experience was beyond disappointing. The food was honestly horrible -- I ordered the chilaquiles, and they were gross. Not just underwhelming, but truly inedible. When the server came by and noticed I hadn't eaten my plate, she asked how it was. I told her it was gross, and instead of offering to get a manager or even apologize, she just said "OK" and walked away. No concern, no follow-up -- nothing. I wasn't looking for a free meal or a handout; I just wanted decent food and basic customer service. Unfortunately, both were missing here. This kind of indifference from the staff reflects poorly on management -- the owner really needs to train the team better. For a place representing Whittier's growing brunch scene, this was an embarrassment. Sadly, I will never recommend Madras Brunch to anyone. read more
