Yes, it's a chain. No, it's *not* in the North End, which is packed with many GREAT Italian restaurants. Maggiano's is in the Theater District, right near the Common side of Back Bay. We went there mostly because it was a lot closer to our hotel on this trip, and because getting reservations so last minute at any of the North End places was difficult at best. But for a chain, this is a great choice. It definitely is several notches above something like The Olive Garden. They do a pretty good Italian restaurant vibe, with a variety of old photos on the walls of people having a good time in Italian restaurants. Linen table cloths and lots of seating. Part of what made this a great experience is the great staff. The manager came by to say hello, which few places do anymore, and our waiter was the perfect amount of attentive, but not overbearing. The rest of the staff could be observed to provide the same level of service to all the diners that evening. The second part that made it great was it was honestly good food. The crab cake appetizer was yummy, perfectly cooked, generous on the crab and not so much the cake (as it should be), and the lobster cream sauce was yummy and a good compliment. For my main I had "Chef KB's Lobster Carbonara"; the sugar snap peas were crisp and fresh, ample big chunks of bacon, and just the right amount of creamy goodness to bind it all together. While you *should* consider going to the North End and Hanover St., if you can't get there, and want something "familiar" this is a great spot.

We had a wonderful experience at Maggiano's Little Italy in Boston's North End. The restaurant itself is beautifully lit, with classic old photos lining the walls that really add to the authentic Little Italy charm. The atmosphere felt warm and inviting from the moment we walked in. The service was excellent--Pablo took great care of us and did an outstanding job throughout the entire meal. Friendly, attentive, and knowledgeable. For food, we ordered the fettuccine Alfredo with chicken, which was rich, creamy, and absolutely delicious. We also tried the Wagyu beef stuffed shells, and wow--what a gourmet twist on a classic dish. The premium Wagyu beef paired with the cheese and rich sauce made it incredibly flavorful and memorable. Portion sizes were very generous--we honestly couldn't finish everything (not a bad problem to have!). To top it all off, we were surprised with a complimentary chocolate cake for a birthday celebration. The slice was huge and tasted just as good as it looked. Overall, amazing food, great service, and a fantastic atmosphere. Highly recommend if you're in the North End and craving classic Italian with an upscale touch

I have visited several Maggiano's locations around the country, and this Boston Back Bay spot did not disappoint. The space feels warm and traditional, with a familiar Italian American charm. All Maggiano's offer a classic atmosphere and consistently strong service. On my first visit, I sat at the bar and ordered the classic Bolognese. It was hearty, flavorful, and exactly what I wanted. Service at the bar was friendly and attentive throughout my meal. I returned for a second visit with a companion and ordered the chicken piccata. The sauce was excellent, bright and well balanced. The chicken was high quality and well-cooked, but it was a thicker cut than I prefer. I tend to like it pounded thinner. Even so, the dish was enjoyable. Table service was just as solid as the bar. Staff were helpful, polite, and kept things moving at a comfortable pace. This location delivers what Maggiano's is known for: classic Italian American dishes, generous portions, and a welcoming setting. It is a great option if you want comfort food in a central Boston location. I would definitely go back.

Did not get a chance to eat in person, but we had take out and everything I had was not only good quality, but portions were huge. Had: Shrimp Fra Diavolo Truffle Garlic Bread (great) Would stop by if ever in area to try more.

(I'm telling you I seen him yesterday He wears like an army coat He's like an older, little dude Oh yeah, yeah, I seen him down in Little Italy" (Beastie Boys) As of July 2025, Maggiano's Little Italy has 52 locations across the United States. Surprisingly, Texas leads the way with nine of them. Massachusetts has just one, in Boston's Back Bay neighborhood, and that's where a bunch of us had dinner a few nights ago. It is a large and elegant restaurant with a definite "old school" vibe to it. Their menu is drool worthy, with an antipasto board, appetizers, salads, pastas, seafood, chicken, veal, steaks, and side dishes. An interesting option for large parties is their "Family Style" menu of four choices within several categories and desserts for $53 per person. We ordered off the menu - my wife selected Chicken Francese ($28.50) with Parmesan, Lemon Butter, Crispy Vesuvio Potatoes, and Grilled Asparagus. I went with their Shrimp Fra Diavolo ($31.00) in a spicy tomato sauce over linguine and a side order of fresh grilled asparagus ($11.00). The meals were excellent and very generously portioned. The chicken Francaise was some of the very best restaurant chicken I ever had! It was super tender, very juicy and simply awesomw. The shrimps in my dish were delicious, as was the pasta and the spicy marinara sauce. And I can't forget those simple grilled asparagus -they were amazing. The portions were big, so a few large "to go" containers came home with us. Service was impeccable, the food, value, and atmosphere were great. I would definitely try them again when the opportunity arises.

Ambiance: The seating here is great, even for just one person. Great indoor setup, looks like can accomodate multiple party sizes. Service: No complaints here, waiter was attentive. Food: Chicken parm was what I expected: Nice crisp on the chicken, the sauce with it was flavorful. Vera cookies they seem to be known for, that was a good end to the meal. Nice and lemony.

Italian Chopped Salad. Chicken Piccata. Rolls with butter.

The staff was amazing. Very attentive and friendly. The food was delicious. I haven't been in a long time but I WILL be back

Came here for a company dinner. They seem to handle large parties (15+) well. Servers/runners were attentive, I just wish our water was refilled more often. The food was alright. Maybe I'm just not a fan of Americanized Italian cuisine but I found there to be wayyy too much sauce in the pasta and salt as I came home parched, but the portions were generous and everything seemed fresh. Drinks were fixed with cheap garnishes (ex. fake cherries for old fashioned) I'm not sure I'd return for a family dinner or a date - wouldn't mind hosting an event here though as the place is huge and well run.

Not Italian bread but should have been.

We arrived at 3:00 pm with reservations. We had a quant booth;very romantic. The restaurant is huge and extremely busy. The one downside was we had an older man named Tom who waited on us. He had zero personality and made our time there less than perfect. It's about time Tom was sent out to pasture. Sorry to say but he was the worst waiter I've ever experienced. Now onto the food. Soft rolls & butter but not Italian bread or dipping oils. Putting that aside Kris had a wonderful Caesar salad & I had an excellent serving of fresh calamari. We both had the eggplant Parmesan as our meal. This eggplant was the best eggplant Parmesan we have ever had. The portions are huge & take home leftovers were the norm. We probably have enough leftovers for 2 more meals for each of us. Kris ended the meal with the best Tiramasu we've ever had. I finished off our meal with black coffee. The 2 roving managers made a point of checking in at every table to make sure all is well. Every server, every busboy had the fastest service I've ever seen. Everybody but our waiter Tom hustled. I'm sure Maggiano's management looks at all the comments and act on the statements accordingly. The food was a solid 10 all around. I give Tom as measly 4 out of 10 & I'm being generous. I forgot to take a lot of pictures so what I have are just so so.

We chose Maggiano's so we could walk to the theatre district and because we used to love going to the one in the Bay Area California. This one did not measure up. Two of us had the spaghetti and meatballs - very bland; chicken Marsala was good, not great; stuffed shells were good but again, little real flavor. The beef and ricotta stuffed shells were good. The Italian wine was very good. The restaurant is pretty crowded and quite big with multiple rooms. Overall, I would not come here again. Final irritation - Open Table told me that the restaurant claimed I had not shown up. I had checked in with the hostess and I submitted my receipt number, the name of our server and our table number.

Faced with the eternal pre-show dining question before catching Alton Brown at the Wang Center, we settled on Maggiano's Little Italy - a decision born of proximity, hunger, and the need to make curtain call without drama. The dining room was predictably packed on show night, yet somehow operates with the precision of a well-rehearsed dance company. Our OpenTable reservation actually meant something here - seated immediately, with a server who mastered that rare art of appearing precisely when needed and vanishing when not. The meatball appetizer arrived first, and frankly, surprised us. These weren't the sad, uniformly round meatballs that plague chain restaurants, but properly seasoned with actual texture and character. The sauce - deep, herby, and worth soaking up with every bite of the genuinely good grilled bread. That bread deserves special mention - thick, crusty, butter-laden, and marked with the proper char that separates actual cooking from mere heating. We split the chicken parmesan, a decision validated when even half portions threatened to overwhelm the plate. Full disclosure: I attacked it before remembering to take a picture, so what you're seeing is already partially demolished. The pasta held its own with proper texture, swimming in that same respectable sauce. The chicken itself was adequately flavored but suffered from a weirdly off-putting chew - the inevitable trade-off in a high-volume kitchen juggling theater district timing demands. Dessert was a chocolate mousse cake that surprisingly didn't pander to the sweet-tooth crowd. Dark, almost brooding chocolate dominated both the mousse and frosting. Not the sugar bomb most chain desserts deliver, but a more grown-up offering that might disappoint those expecting straight sugar. For Theater District dining when the clock is ticking, Maggiano's delivers an honest transaction: you'll be fed substantially, served efficiently, and released punctually. The meatballs stand above the rest, the service runs with admirable precision, and you'll leave satisfied if not inspired. Would I make a special trip here without a show ticket in hand? Not likely. But when you need reliable fuel before an evening's entertainment, Maggiano's understands its role in the theater district ecosystem and plays it without pretension.

" Excellence Once again , delicious drinks & appetizers " The food here is delicious, including the appetizers. The portion size is generous . The bread tastes so fresh and with butter it's absolutely delicious. The drinks are just as good and generously poured in big glasses . The service is attentive and hands on . They really go all out , to make you feel at home . The vibe is warm , friendly and welcoming. Parking is limited to street metered. It's difficult but manageable.

A great Italian restaurant in Boston, with a notable reputation. Maggianos came highly recommended to me by my boyfriend, as his family has come here for years! They offer a family style experience, where you pay $50 a person and get to share all their staples. This includes an opening act, bread, 4 appetizers, 2 entrees, 2 pastas, and 3 desserts. It's definitely worth the price as their portions are generous. They only offer this for 4 people or more, however if you have a smaller party and wish to get this, you pay for 2 children. Hungry and overzealous, we decided to split this experience. The amount of food we got was insane for the two of us, but let me tell you, it made for some incredible leftovers. I haven't left a restaurant that full in a while. The food was all fresh and flavorful so I really couldn't pick a favorite dish. We had so much food on our table that our waitress came over repeatedly to clear plates for us in order to make room for the next dishes. Shoutout to her for being kind and patient and making our experience great. Overall it was an awesome experience and I'd definitely come back.

In advance, I stopped into the hotel to confirm that a gluten-free guest could be accommodated and was assured this would be handled. In reality, the accommodation was inadequate and, at times, unacceptable. While the rest of us were served scones, my stepdaughter was given cut fruit in their place, and told that was all they had to accommodate. The dessert course consisted of what appeared to be basic gluten-free cookies, misrepresented as something more gourmet - egg nog cookies??? This lack of preparation was both disappointing, upsetting and avoidable. The broader experience was equally concerning. We were subjected to an unsolicited and uncomfortable "lesson" on tea service, which detracted from what should have been a relaxed and celebratory occasion. While trying to enjoy the time with the girls, being a lifelong tea drinker and someone who has been to many times at your establishment and its various incarnations, this is something I have never experienced. The food quality was poor (scones were clearly reheated and stuck to the cloth napkin they were wrapped in), and there were notable service lapses, including being served water in a visibly shattered glass. Additionally, when hot water was added to refresh the tea, my stepdaughter's pot curdled and had to be replaced. It was especially disappointing, as I mentioned that I had stopped in and spoken with the concierge, and was assured, as they had called the kitchen while I stood there that they readily accommodated gluten-free. There are numerous places in the city that could have done this, and if you had just told me that you could not do so, I would have booked us elsewhere. I chose not to raise the multiple issues in the moment so as not to disrupt what was meant to be a special day for the girls and me. However, the total cost exceeded $500, and the experience did not come close to justifying that price point! Do not recommend.
