We had dinner here since it was close to our hotel. We had 5pm reservations and the restaurant started getting busy around 5:15p. The lady waiting on us was a nice local Italian-Bostonian with a cute accent and great attitude. The complementary bread was room temperature, not great...a warmed up loaf woud had been a nicer touch. I asked for the pork chop with no salt added, over a bed of spinach. It came with a sauce that was already a bit seasoned, so the overall dish was good for me....not very salty at all. My husband got the meatballs over ziti and his red sauce was very very salty. I lived in Italy for 4 years and I had food from all over and I will say Sicily was my favorite bc of all of the pistachio flavored meals. One thing I missed was the welcoming vibe Italians have like you're family and this place has that vibe, we were warmly welcomed and seated immediately. My husband and youngest had the lobster ravioli and they both loved it! My other son had spaghetti and meatballs and he said it took him back to living in Italy as a child, I had the fettuccini Alfredo and it need a little more flavor so I added some butter and prepper then I was happy! Just finished up lunch here and had a very good experience. It was crowded and the restaurant is small but I never really felt over-crowded. I had the meatball sandwich which I felt was reasonably priced. Not only that it tasted fantastic. The meatballs were tender, the marinara full of taste and most importantly not overpowering. I used to live near here 20 years ago (gasp!) and came here all the time for the veal braciolitine marsala. In my opinion, the best Italian meal in all of Boston. Yes, North End - eat your heart out. The dish was on par with marsala dish I had at Giacomo's in the North End the night before though the prosciutto in Antonio's was better prepared in thin slices. I want to start this review by saying that our waitress was a lovely angel trying her best and she bears no fault in any of this. But our experience was very bad here. The restaurant is stuffy and hot with AC on the wall but not turned on. The dining room is very cramped and I felt like we were dining with the table next to us. But all of those things could be excused if the food was good. But. It simply was not. The marinara was tasteless and underwhelming. I ordered the fettuccine Alfredo with chicken, when I received my food I got a bowl of overcooked noodles with a bland, flavorless cream sauce, and no chicken. Tasting this "Alfredo" I legitimately felt as though they just forgot to add the cheese to the sauce. It was like eating noodles in a bowl of milk. When I told our lovely waitress that I didn't get any chicken in my dish, she apologized immediately and assured me she would bring some out asap. And she did, and she even had the kitchen put Alfredo sauce on the chicken before bringing it to me. And man was I right. The new Alfredo sauce on the chicken actually tasted like something! It had cheese in it! It was a thicker texture! It wasn't the best Alfredo I've ever had but by comparison it was truly night and day. Which leads me to some questions: Was my bowl of pasta just fully unfinished? Without chicken or a completed sauce? And if so... How did a bowl of unfinished pasta get to my table without anyone noticing? Would they have even noticed if I hadn't said anything? These questions consume me. It was a wild experience made even wilder by the fact that we were overcharged for tax which leads to even more questions. Ones I won't pose here but if you know you know. Anyway. Loved the waitress. The food was not good. And it was all extremely overpriced. I would personally suggest looking elsewhere for dinner. read more

The spaghetti gave Chef Boyardee flavors and the fettucine was bland A couple days later we met up with a group and had dinner. We had the lobster ravioli and linguine with marinara. The reviews on Open Table, supported by my online search of Boston reviews made this a standout option to try. First. Evelyn. Our Server. Brilliant, informative and efficient. Second. Our study beyond Yelp indicated that this great spot was named best Italian restaurant in Boston years ago, and a video I watched claimed it's better than any Italian restaurant in the North End. Frankly, having been to Italy I have been disappointed by places in the North End. But HERE! I felt we had landed somewhere in Italy with a coastal access, like Sorrento. (I started with the delicious Lemoncello spritz). I had read on Open Table that the Lobster Ravioli was a favorite. I ordered it because I eat all the seafood I can devour when in Boston. I feared lots of pasta, very little lobster. But the homemade ravioli were stunning and stuffed with good sized pieces of lobster. The sauce was a perfect accompaniment. And finally, before you quit reading I had a cannoli for dessert. Didn't care to much for them in the north end. Shear perfection at Antonio's. (My husband loved his meatballs and homemade pasta too. My mom and I were visiting Boston for the first time. We stumbled upon this Italian restaurant as it was near our hotel in Beacon Hill Sept 2nd. The service by Ralph Verrocchi was outstanding. The food was outstanding. I love pasta but really didn't expect it to be so good. It is a tiny place with a mom and pop feel. I think we got lucky as it was a Tuesday to even find a table. They had 1 table left in the back. But that was fine. The drinks were solid as well. My mom and I really enjoyed ourselves there and still talk about it. Everything was delicious! We discussed our love of espresso martinis and how we dont like them overly sweet. Welp ,they made us some absolutely perfect ones!! highly reccomend if you like a less sweet espresso martini. AND then there was our waiter. He was super attentive, but not annoying at all. We had reservations for four at 7p on a Saturday evening. The gentleman at the front looked at me like I had four heads. No "Good evening", no friendly greeting. Just a "Yes?" . He seemed incredulous that I had reservations, and asked if all my party was here, with the inclination they would not seat us until all of us had arrived. This place is very small and tight, and we had to wait in the middle of the floor, where as the "Host" directed another staff member to seat us at a table, as we were "in the way". The waiter (?) was unfriendly (no smiles here) and it appeared that he was either filling in for someone who called out, or just had no interest in his job. He Took our drink order, did not offer appetizers (upselling always works in restaurants folks). Then he quickly took the order, to the point of making all four of us feel un at ease immediately. - Were we doing him a favor? Please note this place was not crowded on a Saturday night....... We were at the point where we afraid to ask for anything else! Food was OK. Typical Italian fare. We ordered Desserts and Cappuccinos. When I asked for a certain type of sweetener, he said he did not have it, and tossed the sugar/sweetener container on the table. He then hovered over the table while we tallied the check. :-( Perhaps the host and waiter were having an off night. However, atmosphere is a big part of the restaurant industry. And Spumoni (which we can't get in Maine) I've been stopping here since my heart attack in 2018 forced me to make regular visits to Mass General. Y'all know I usually don't give less than a 3 star but this place was just another level (in a different sense) Ordered veal and chicken parmigiana and they tasted nothing like it. Also they tasted the "same" - why order veal when it's same as the taste of chicken in this place? Another huge disappointment was the service- i couldn't even figure who the point of order was. Three staffs were seating down in the corner looking at their phone, singing along the songs out loud. Too chill - wayy too chill, not knowing that they are suppose to help us with an order. They had a huge star market bag on their table and chat throughout the whole dinner experience. The place is nice enough and the ambiance was okay. At the end of the meal they charged us a set amount of gratitude. Mind you we were only 3 people so the rule in which they charge you 18% for groups of 5 or more was not applicable. When we asked about it the answer was that "the servers can choose their own tip". This was my first time trying Antonio's and I was neither blown away nor disappointed. This restaurant is situated in the West End near Beacon Hill in a pretty good location close to public transit. We visited on a Friday night and it was pretty crowded, so I'd recommend getting a reservation if possible. I was able to try their prosecco and red wine, which were both tasty, as well as their antipasti which was more like a salad. For the main, I had their chicken parmigiana, and was completely blown away by the size of it. Although it did come with a side of pasta (either linguine or ziti), the plate was mostly just chicken. It was thin-cut and tasted good paired with the cheese and sauce, but nothing out of this world. The portion was so big that I couldn't finish it all, so I'd say it was definitely one of their dishes worth the price. For dessert I tried the tiramisu, which was okay but also nothing special. The overall service and atmosphere here was good, and if you're looking for a home-y restaurant with a mom-and-pop feel this may be it! read more

Delicious food but a horrible experience. We made a reservation for 6:30 and got there a few minutes early. The restaurant was busy and our table was ready for us. We quickly ordered drinks and food and everything was out within 20 minutes. After receiving our food the wait staff came over many times asking if we were done when it had only been a few minutes. After finishing our dinner the receipt was quickly thrown on our table (only 33 minutes after arriving). We then asked if we could have coffee and were told no at first they are not serving "that stuff tonight", and then yes a few minutes later. We enjoyed our drinks for a few minutes and then were told we had to leave and were out of time. We were there for a total of 68 minutes. The tables around us had been there much longer and were never once rushed. It seemed they chose us because all the other tables were older couples and and were a group of girls in our late 20s. For whatever reason it was very rude of them and caused for us to chug alcoholic beverages before returning into a busy city. We hadn't seen each other in 6 years and were just trying to catch up for the holidays. They need to control their reservations and availability if they plan to continue their business. read more
