So when it comes to making a totally badass hamburger, the chef and crew at Maggies know what's up! Some people will be turned off immediately because Maggie's Kitchen is so freakishly divey, it looks like it actually belongs on the Dirty 6th Street in Austin or Deep Ellum in Dallas. The family and I showed up late - probably 8:30PM on this Wednesday night - and we were frankly blown away by the sheer volume of burger combinations that they offered. We quickly ordered three burgers all medium rare, with mine being a swiss-mushroom burger. What they delviered in short order was hand-patted patties, the mushrooms and onions were nicely grilled and included pepper jack cheese = it was FANTASTIC. Oh, and I must say the fries were very solid as well. So if your idea of a great burger is a well seasoned and HUGE quarter pound patty which finishes moist while being well contained with the bun - then you're going to love what Maggies has to offer. This burger place is awesome. I love it when a small group of hardworking people pull it together and create great food. Maggies Kitchen is just such a place. The burgers here are huge and the combinations available are amazing. My wife had a traditional bacon cheeseburger. The bacon was crispy, the bun was fresh and the burger patty was cooked just the way she wanted it. I had a mushroom, onion and swiss burger that was also delicious. It was full of flavor and the mushrooms were plentiful and combined with the cheese nicely. I got coleslaw with my burger which tasted like it was homemade. We also got fries and onion rings which were good. The batter on the onion rings was delicious, but it was hard to find the onion slices in some of them. We got there right at 12:00 and we were very impressed with the way that they cranked out the burgers. It takes teamwork to be that good. I also want to give a shout out to the gentleman that was working the front of the house, he was working very hard keeping tables cleared and cleaned during the lunch rush and never stopped moving. I was directed to Maggie's by some locals when I inquired about a good burger. Their menu offers quite a variety of choices, covering all manner of tastes and hunger states since burgers can be ordered-up in quarter pound or half pound versions. I opted for a green chili edition, and I was served one very fine burger. I mean really good. It was actually cooked to my specs. The guy next to me had a house specialty 420 burger and he had to ask for a box; that thing was huge! Maggie's opted for no liquer license, but since they conveniently share a front deck/patio with the local brewery, one can order a fantastic burger then walk out the door and into the brewery door 3 feet away and walk out that one with a very fine beverage. The food was good and reasonable, although my husband did not get the right order, he ate it anyway. We had the cordon blue sandwich and the turkey bacon avocado sandwich. Sandwiches come with fries or Cole slaw. Our bill was under $20. The service was very good! Twice during our meal workers came to our table to ask how things were. Bottom line: if you care about customer service, do not eat at Maggie's. Full story: we just rolled into town today and I was so excited about this charming town. I read dozens of Yelp reviews and chose Maggie's based on reasonably priced, yummy looking burgers. My husband, my 2 year old son, my one year old daughter and myself showed up around 6. We spent the first 10 min trying to find a place to change my son's diaper because there is no changing table in the restroom. You walk up to the counter to order. It took us a while to order because my husband was reading the whole menu and asking questions (and my son ran outside and he had to go get him.). My husband asked what the stars on the menu meant and I said it meant it was hot (because I was looking at *hot*). A man walked by and very rudely said something along the lines of "read the board." There was a starred disclaimer off to the side about not eating undercooked meat. The man walked out and back in. I asked him if he was the owner and he said yes. Then I asked him if he was Mr Grumpy Pants because there is a sign on the wall about it and I genuinely thought we may be in a place like Dick's Last Resort where they are rude to you on purpose. I told him I didn't like the way he talked to my husband and he should have better customer service. He said he wasn't talking to my husband. He was talking to the girl behind the register. I told him I didn't want him to talk to his employees like that either and if we didn't have 2 little kids with us that needed to eat, I'd rather not spend our money there. I went outside with the kids and took our seats. A lady nearby told me she'd heard the whole thing and thought he was rude too. My husband sat down while I was still talking about it with the lady. The owner walked out so my husband was trying to shush me. After another brief confrontation with the owner, he told me he was going to refund our money and "kick us out." He then said my two toddler children had been "running around like heathens" which is a major exaggeration. They were being children in a very low-key establishment. There is writing all over the walls and tables. It's not like I let them run around in a 5 star restaurant. I was really taken back by the whole series of events. I can't believe any restaurant owner in a tourism-driven town would act like that. I'm sure he'll just say I was rude but I'm not in the restaurant business. If you care about the way employers treat their employees, I would advise you to skip this place. There are plenty of other places to eat in Ouray. read more

First Yelp review ever! Stop at Maggie's whenI pass thru town. Being from Omaha I don't get there too often. Today I travelled from Moab and planned my day so I would be there before 4:00 close. Stressed while driving from Silverton and didn't stop. Pulled up front at 3:45..hand made sign out front said open until 5:00..great I'll check into RV park first. Came back about 4:10 with my wife (never been there) who I had been talking up the place for days. Cook said we are closed. I said your open light is on and hand written sign out front said open until 5:00. Cook said grill is off. Told him I wanted to talk to the owner when another employee said I am his son and he is a bigger asshole than we are. They refused to call the owner or make us hamburgers so we went across the street to O'Briens. Had table near window and saw couple after couple walk up to door and leave. Was a big fan of Maggies but now that I know a bit about how it is run and by who, type of people, don't plan to ever darken the door again. I don't think I've ever have such a terrible experience like the one I just did. I walked in to order a burger to go and the owner aggressively approached me saying they weren't going to serve me fries but just coleslaw. Honestly I didn't care and told him it was fine, I just want a burger to go. I actually thought he was joking by the way he was talking to me. When it was my turn to pay the cashier gave me the option of fries so I ordered it. The owner walked to the kitchen and told his employees not to serve me fries and started yelling at me saying he had told me that before and then he said to his employees not to serve me anything, which at that point I told him I didn't want the burger and wanted my money back. I told him he could not treat his customers this way and he kept yelling at me until I left. This is the worst experience I've ever had in a restaurant in all the countries I've gone to. I'm giving this place 5 stars WITHOUT having tried one of the burgers they're apparently famous for. After several days on the road on business I was burger-ed out. Went for the catfish po-boy instead. Incredible! Perfect combination of the right bun, a huge catfish fillet cooked perfectly and a delicious homemade tartar sauce. Easily the best sandwich I've had in ages. Glad they were out of bacon, as ordinarily I would have ordered something with bacon on it. Hmm, as a matter of fact the po-boy would have been EVEN BETTER with crispy bacon ... but I digress. To top it all off, the fries that came with the sandwich were PERFECT. Just amazing food all the way around. Other reviewers have talked about decor so I won't. I found it charming but to each their own. Once again I learn the wisdom of reading the bad reviews rather than the good ones. I went here hoping to have a great burger but I didn't get one. First, I ordered it cooked medium, but for some reason half the burger was damn near raw while the other half was medium rare. The hamburger toppings, what there are of them, are in plastic containers by the window. Which means soggy, wet sliced tomatoes, minced onion, pickles, and salad greens -- not crispy iceberg lettuce, but misc. salad greens. The fries were okay. And all that was about 10 bucks. I won't be back. The moral to the story is that it's damn hard to get good food in obvious tourist traps. The other moral to the story is that there are a lot of very stupid people who wouldn't know good food if it hit them in the face. All you've got to do to see that is read some of the five star reviews. At least the scenery is fantastic. There aren't many places more beautiful than the Ouray area. read more

Stopped here on a day trip of exploring Silverton and Ouray. We both had the mushroom and cheese burgers, fries, and diet Coke's. The had a lot of visitor graffiti on walls, furniture ceilings etc. I guess it's a thing but took a bit to understand it. So honestly this is a great burger!!! They had quite a bit of people in and out there so seems the word is out- if you want a great lunch stop here. They ask you how you want the burger and actually cook it as you requested. The condiments come in a little bag due to covid as so the burger additives (onions, tomatoes, lettuce) the fries were cruised perfectly and the ranch was yummy. They are serious about the health restrictions but have ample seating outside so not being able to sit inside was fine. The staff reminded me of dicks last resort - little rough around edge but focused on making sure you are serviced well. Stop in, take a load off and enjoy a great lunch. read more
