We came up to Ouray from Montrose to visit the kitchen store and grab some lunch. There aren't many places open this time of year, but I'm glad that Maggie's was open! We all had the patty melts and they were amazing. The burgers were juice and the fries were freshly made. Don't let the decor question your decision to eat here...I'm not a big fan of the ink covered walls, but obviously other people like drawing all over the walls, ceilings, lights, and tables. We ate two days in a row at Maggies. The Burgers are bigger than life and so are the orders of Onion rings. Amazing food and a real mountain town atmosphere. You can sit out on the veranda at a table or the long bar facing the street looking up at the majestic mountains. They are constantly busy and never stop. Had Elk burger and the Chile burger. My boyfriend and I were in town for 5 days and he was craving a cheeseburger so we called ahead to make sure they were still open we got there just in time as we were the last to be served. After eating at a couple of the other restaurants in Ouray this is by far the best food in town. The burgers were cooked to perfection and the coleslaw and french fries were very delicious. The best part of the french fries was that they have the skin on them and the coleslaw wasn't too sweet. This is a strange eatery but with good food. Their specialty is burgers which are hand pressed and made to order... in addition to the traditional burger (only Swiss or American if you want cheese) they had about 12 different combination burgers, like bacon, mushroom, etc and also both elk and bison burgers or Portobello mushroom patty. The burgers were cooked as ordered medium rare on toasted buns. Condiments including ketchup, mustard, mayo, pickles,lettuce and onions are on a self serve table. The fresh cut fries were a bit skimpy and just ok... I really liked the batter dipped onion rings. The coleslaw was also good if you liked it a touch sweet and tangy. As to the strange atmosphere... every square inch of the walls, tables,chairs and even ceiling are covered with people's names, comments, etc. which is sort of cute but makes three place look really grimy. read more

You know the burger is good when you have to go to the bathroom and wash your greasy fingers after! We went after a long day of hiking and were pleased to find this seemingly hole-in-the-wall place. One side kitchen, one side brewery, all delicious. Markers were provided to help "decorate" the inside. You can add your name, insignia or other identifying mark on the wall, table, ceiling or wherever there's open space. Markers are provided to patrons (so, I'm assuming you're encouraged to tap into your creative side). My burger was severed on a lid of a barrel, and it was so impressive. This is an informal burger joint, that should also be known for their catfish! It was a delicious fillet that came out blazing hot and crispy. The informal vibe was perfect for our late lunch. The setting was a bit different and that there were three large booths, and two large family-style tables, and one bar where the guests were to sit. There is a condiment bar as well. The patio also had picnic tables for seating. The walls and ceiling are covered in signatures from patrons. After ordering we chose a huge table that could have set 10 to 12 people. The order was ready and called out by name, "Cindy Lou who, Cindy Crawford, Cindy Lauper"... By that time I was smiling and laughing on the way to get my fish! The Hayden burger comes with half an order of onion rings on it plus fries as the side; we ordered extra onion rings not knowing his burger was going to be stacked with them! This place is awesome. We are a family of four from NJ that travelled to the Ouray area for the first time and just stumbled across this spot. The decor is a bit questionable but the food was amazing and the folks working there were super friendly. We all had burgers that were really, really good. The quality of the meat was just way above what we would have expected and the taste was amazing. I had the Serrano burger and am still thinking about it a week later. There's a big patio where I recommend taking your food to so you can flaunt it at the tourists passing by on the street! Went on vacation in Ouray for a couple days. Was told by multiple stores in town that Maggies Kitchen was the place to go for a great burger. Tried to go for lunch. They were supposed to open at 11. We went a little after 1130 and they were still closed. Waited til the next day for dinner and they were open. They seem to be the only place in town with pepsi. The signs on the outside seemed very straight and somewhat rude "if your mask os not covering your nose, we will not serve you". I was feeling like i was being yelled at before even going inside to order. When we walked in and were looking at the menu, one of the servers were very rude. Not letting me get a chance to talk before she walked away. Another server was kind enough to take our order. We ordered a cheeseburger with fries and a grilled cheese and two dr peppers (which were cans) We told the server we were going to sit in the back which was up the stairs and outside in the yard. Our food was brought to us by the server that had walked away originally and nothin was said like enjoy, or here you go etc. just gave us the tray and walked back in the building. Now to the "best burger in town!" I was not impressed at all. Honestly tasted like a frozen burgee you get at the store. Nothing big and juicy like i was expecting and hoping for. I can make a better burger at home. The fries....there was barely any flavor to them. I didn't even eat half of them. I dont recommend maggies. The Full Tilt Saloon directly across the street had a way better burger and way better service! And i vote them for best burger in town! When we were ready to leave, we were not allowed to go back down the stairs and out the way we came in. We had to go down the alley in the back and around the block. Can a "hole in the wall" restaurant be on main street? I guess so! After exploring lovely Ouray main street we stopped by Maggie's knowing that it's dog friendly. They told us that if we want we could sit on their back porch where the view of the mountains is the best. So we walked around the block to the back of the restaurant to their back patio. We obviously couldn't walk through the restaurant to get to the patio because of our dog. We sat down at a picnic table and had a beautiful view of the mountains to the west. It was significantly quieter in the back compared to the front porch that was packed with people. We ordered the Green Chili Burger & Mushroom Swiss Burger and fries. We both very much enjoyed our meals and our dog enjoyed chewing on a stick he found under the table. Overall, we really enjoyed our experience here and would definitely come back next time we're in Ouray. read more

My order of fires were at the very bottom of the to-go bag, leaving things oily and soggy. Macaroni salad is a definite pass next time because it wasn't anything great. They also have fantastic, crispy French fries, made to order, served so hot right out of the fryer.
