Garbage. Cute little place but my chicken fried steak tasted like low quality ground beef they stuck together & flattened then fried. My first bite was gristle. Unfortunately what cost them probably $1 in crappy meat cost me $14 for an unpleasant meal. Waitress never checked on us to see how the food was for me to complain to her. My husband's waffle was really good, his chicken was a little too bready for me but at least HE enjoyed his meal. Even my sourdough bread was over toasted and barely buttered. Cool original 1940s diner. The kinda place youd see on old route 66. Me and my family had dinner. I had a chili cheese burger. My wife has the steak, my mother inlaw had the salmon, my son had the chicken n waffles. The food was very tasty with big portions. A nice quiet place to grab a quality meal. My cousin was visiting from the Netherlands and wanted to go to a real American 1950s diner. I searched on Yelp and Maggie's restaurant filled the bill. Not only does the diner appear to have the original fixtures of a 1950s diner, there is Elvis, Marilyn and other 50s decor that brings you back to that time. The food is also quite good. I had pancakes, bacon and eggs and I liked that the pancakes were thin and kind of dense instead of being too fluffy. My wife had the crispy pancakes which seemed to be the same thing only burnt around the edges. I wouldn't recommend them. My cousin had the moco loco and seemed to enjoy it. I don't think they get anything like that in the Netherlands. read more

This place has been around for decades and was taken over about a year or so ago by the son-in-law of the prior owners, who is also the cook. A simple diner type place with no frills, the food is decent and service can be a bit harried but is always cordial. Prices are good too, especially when compared with the crazy increases many places have. One thing they can improve is the jam for the bread, it comes in a tiny cup which doesn't last long enough to smear on all the bread. We were the only ones there during our visit (late breakfast after eating time in a neighboring country with excessive Covid rules and silly business owners who refused service if you concur l couldn't produce vax status), which means the service was superb. Okay no fork or knife, so people let me know how can one eat pancake without a set of utensils, was I suppose to eat them with my feet or hands . Waited a minute maybe the lady went to get them . Nope husband had to flag the waitress down . My husband used to come to this place when he was a kid with his family . Out of respect for him instead of zero star I gave them a generous 2 stars . Where to begin...the small town diner where the atmosphere feels like everyone knows your name (not the Cheers ;)reference...haha), the kind customer service, the delicious 3 egg breakfast, 1 amazing waffle and accommodating cook for my special requests...maybe the fresh avocado I spread on my sourdough toast or the offer to make me an iced coffee...I'm thinking it was also the music and the regulars sitting on a stool reading a paper and requesting "their regular breakfast"...It is all that and more on a Sunday Funday intimate brunch with the hunny. I have lived in Vallejo 23 years and finally ate here on a Sunday afternoon. Had the menage a trois appetizer and a cheeseburger with cheddar and bacon. The burger was juicy and good. Now for the negatives . The place is small with limited parking and only 4 tables, but also has a big counter where you can sit. The place also only takes cash and there is not an ATM nearby . However what made me walk out was, that after approx 4 minutes of standing at the cash register waiting to place an order, the ladies were answering phones and taking orders, taking payments from dine in guest, as I went unnoticed. No one said hello, No one said we'll be right with you, no nothing. Almost like I didn't exist to them. And what made me write this review and not wait any longer was the lady took the phone call before taking my order. Note to staff: in the future I recommend you answer the phone, tell that customer to hold while you take care of the one in front of you. Especially if they were there before the phone rang. Really wanted to give this local place a chance but they are disorganized to the point of being unprofessional and also rude. Ate there once pre-Covid and loved the burgers and fries (a little heavy on the fresh onion, but no big deal since I just took them off). But service had been extremely slow back then even with few people in the diner and the place needed a sweep and wipe down. Again, something we forgave because we wanted to support a local business. Tried to place a take out order during Covid, and the first few times I called, no answer, then got through and was asked if I could wait, so I said yes, then they put the phone down for five minutes and completely forgot about me (I could hear them chatting in the background). I hung up and called back 5-10 minutes later. The woman who answered the phone sounded exasperated as if I was being rude for placing an order (she answered the phone with "yes?!"), and didn't seem to be paying close attention or writing down my order but I gave her the benefit of the doubt. Ordered a burger and fries and a chili dog and fries. She took down my name and phone number and told me it'd be 45 minutes. Showed up at the appropriate time and went in to pick up my order. Was told "oh we tried to call you but YOU didn't answer. We're out of chili." Order wasn't ready at all anyway. She was completely unapologetic for not communicating that they had no chili in the first place on the phone when we placed the order, and no apology for writing down the wrong number (or did they lie and not even try to call?). I walked out upset and without food. Promptly gave my business to another restaurant that day. They need a serious service/organization overhaul if they ever want my business again. read more

Tried this restaurant for the first time this morning, ordered their BLT on sourdough bread and it was delicious, bacon was cooked perfectly slightly crispy not too much lettuce like all restaurants try to do to make sandwich look like your getting a humongous sandwich for your money and perfect amount of tomato with mayonnaise, I will definitely order this sandwich again in near future. I guess the only thing that upset me was the 3% fee added to my bill for using my credit card and there is no signage saying that every customer will be charged 3% fee to bill but nothing about if you use your card, kind of confusing. Excellent local place with friendly neighborhood locals enjoying delicious breakfasts and burgers. It's a place where you can go and unplug from your digital world and have real conversation with some real folks born and raised in the sweet little town of Vallejo, or have been living there for years. They serve breakfast all day and they even have grits! I hear the milkshakes are thick enough to eat with a spoon too! The owner seems to be an interesting guy. He still sits and drinks coffee and reads an actual newspaper , for those of y'all young enough to recall doing or seeing that spectacular spectacle. Came back and seen someone coming in to order two breakfast burritos. The person who ordered before me just got their food and assuming in was getting my food next. No, the two burritos were getting cooked and then the cook asked how to make my order. I pride myself on helping out small businesses, especially after Covid. I'm a small business owner myself in San Francisco. I know the ups about ups and downs . But, you have to help your business by playing attention to the small details and treating ALL the same. Coffee: perfect and hot. BLT Sandwich: perfectly toasted, just the right amount of mayonnaise, paper thin tomatos, fresh crisp lettuce, proportioned just right. Not as easy it sounds.
