I really like the Moynihan Train Hall location of Magnolia Bakery since there is always a short queue and service is really fast. I usually always get Magnolia Bakery's Chocolate Chunk Blondie ($3.95) and Magic Cookie Bar ($3.95). They are both delicious and always a wonderful treat. I typically don't care for their Classic Banana Pudding (medium is $7.25) and it is more of my husband's preference. However, I saw there is a limited-edition flavor pudding - Strawberry Crumble Pudding available from June 2 until June 29 and I had to try it. I got a Strawberry Crumble Pudding Medium for $7.95. The exclusive pudding features layers of creamy vanilla pudding, oven-roasted strawberries, vanilla wafers, and a buttery shortbread crumb. This was absolutely delicious and totally changed my views of Magnolia Bakery's banana pudding. Each scoop and bite I had comprised of the perfect harmony. I completely understand why Magnolia Bakery's Strawberry Crumble Pudding is a popular seasonal dessert. Since I had a few minutes before my train track was even going to be assigned, I went searching for Magnolia Bakery upon my arrival at Moynihan Train Hall at Penn Station. It wasn't in the Food Hall. Turns out it is its own little shop (not a stall), located just kiddy corner to the Amtrak counter within the glass roofed hall! By the time I entered, the other customers had already been served. If I remember correctly, the medium was more than twice the portion of the small for less than double the price, so I ordered a medium portion of their specialty banana pudding to go - strawberry shortcake banana pudding. I can't believe I have never written a review for Magnolia Bakery. I have been buying cake slices for my train trips here for at least 5 years now. My go to is the chocolate cake with white icing. the slices I get have always been good. I am creature of habit and get the same things. They have a great set up for plasticware, and napkins. Which is great because that saves me a trip somewhere in the station to get a fork or walk to the dining car to get a fork on the train. Customer service can be a hit or miss. Generally I have felt a little rushed when I am there, and because of that I never really have had a moment to really see what they offer. So that's why I have always gone with the same two slices, chocolate with white icing and vanilla funfetti. read more

The banana pudding was everything you could imagine and more. I am a cookie girl. I want to see the cookies and taste them. I do like bananas but do not need many! I purchased 2 mini sizes and the specialty pudding which was apple crumble. I normally do not care for apples BUT.... This was incredible. The apples were not caramelized and over cooked but rather crisp and cold while still cooked. It gave the texted of biting into a pear. I got a banana pudding cookie and a blondie here and was sadly underwhelmed by both. They weren't soft or chewy, so they didn't feel fresh. The banana pudding cookie definitely tasted like banana, but wasn't mind-blowing in flavor. The blondie had chocolate chips in it and there is no sign indicating this. Very disappointing for those of us who choose blondies specifically because we don't like the chocolate-y-ness of brownies. So after my friends had to leave, I decided to get some pudding to go. I did have to wait in line but the line moved pretty quickly. The cashier I had was very nice and friendly and the pudding was very enjoyable (ate it when I was back in Brooklyn). Such a convenient location to grab some banana pudding when you're on the go. I like coming here when right before I take the train to the airport or when I just arrive in the city. Their banana pudding has been so consistent over the years and still my favorite dessert in NYC. The nilla wafers have a cake like texture and are not soggy at all. The whipped cream is super fluffy. Service is quick and the store is very clean. Can't really comment on the other dessert selections like cupcakes and such but maybe I'll try them one day. As a random fyi, I've tried to bring banana pudding on the plane and if you buy the medium size or up, TSA may flag you and try to take it away. I guess it's because of the whipped cream?
