I really liked the crab udon but the wait was super long , enough to justify not returning. It's a small restaurant and it could hold only so many customers. You know this place is LEGIT when the line is long and full of OG Vietnamese like myself (none of these foodie bloggers and their IG hype). Patrons sit on plastic stools while they wait outside, menu is a one pager in Vietnamese and it's laminated, and the workers don't even give you the menu bc they already know what you come there for. Order the "bánh canh tôm cua". You can thank me later. It's udon noodle soup in this rich broth topped with real crabmeat, shrimp and thin slices of pork. Add a little pepper paste and It's mind blowing how good this is. If this is my last meal, I'd be happy and complete. Yes it's THAT good. And a little known fact: out of all the phở places in Little Saigon, this is my FAVORITEST BESTEST place to get beef phở (phở tái). They use fresh noodles (instead of the dried one that is boiled like most other restaurants) and the most tender filet mignon. Stopped in here for the banh canh, but didn't want to order 2 of those so we also split the mi kho. Both were spectacular. It's hard to say which was better because I really enjoyed both. The banh canh's soup was rich in taste with a lot of crab, shrimp and pork. The mi kho was also loaded with shrimp and pork, and the noodles had a flavorful sauce on it (broth on the side was bland). The best part of the meal was the hot sauce-- we even bought ourselves a jar to go. It's really spicy and wonderful. The eggrolls were pretty good too; I like the wrap that they use on the outside. This place has the best banh canh. We have been coming here for a while now just for the banh canh tôm cua . There is always a ton of protein and ground pork with mushroom in fish sauce as a topping . There are 2 different types of broth we personally like the less starchy kind but both are delicious and full of flavor . Yumm ... The banh canh cua (crab udon) was mid af. There are plenty of other Vietnamese restaurant in the same area with the same, if not, better quality/tasting udon. $16 for a bowl of mediocre udon and a long wait (as the place is tiny and seats max 20 people). Canh bun is also mid. Fried rice is nothing to write home about. I honestly struggle to think of why anyone would choose this place over any other viet restaurants in the same walking distance. There is one server and one busboy that are busy running around. Water is $1 per cup. For your own sanity, go to any other Vietnamese restaurants and you'll get the same bánh canh but with no wait time. Don't listen to the influencers and paid yelp reviews. read more

My favorite Hu Tieu Kho in Little Saigon. Cash only. It comes with a good amount of pork, shrimp, and fresh crab. This is one of my favorite to go items period. The hot sauce is fire! You can buy a glass container of it for $10. They are also known for their banh canh and imperial egg rolls. The rice paper egg rolls are far superior than the egg wrapper. I guess that's why they are called imperial. Probably not, but let's pretend that's the case. As for the venue, it is small inside and there's no AC. It's been a few years since I eaten mai Phung. Mai Phung is still one of my favorite local Vietnamese restaurant even after a few years. This time around, the service was great, the bun thit nuong cha gio was delicious. The hu tieu kho on point. If you are craving for pho, the pho Bo is delicious too. This place is known for their banh canh and yes it is one of the best places to get your thick broth crab banh canh. However I got to try their hu tieu kho and it was definitely high quality with the amount of crab meats they added. It's not your typical hu tieu kho, this one has crab, pork, large shrimps and chicharrones. They used fresh thick soft noodles here so if you're into the chewy kind make sure to ask. I have to knock a point due to the broth tasted like american can chicken broth rather than freshly made broth. Other than that this place uses high quality ingredients and pricing seems fair for what they served. $16 for the large bowl. We waited a hour to try this place. Very limited seating I believe 6-7 tables total so if you have a large party I recommend you going to early. We tried their speciality noodle which is #1 on the menu. They were generous with the crab and shrimp. The soup is more thick with cornstarch but this is because the noodles they also use pairs better with it. The eggs rolls was my favorite it was delicious. The noodles it was okay I'm glad I tried it but it didn't wow me away. Also know they charge $1 for water it's not free. Luckily my husband question what the additional $2 charge was on the receipt.
