I went with my friend to her doctor's appointment in Granada Hills. After the appointment we decided to grab a late breakfast. Looked up a few places and decided on this place, reviews were very good. Happy to say, they live up to those reviews!! The young lady who seated us had a lovely persona. She welcomed us with a smile and promptly seated us. We engaged in light conversation about the restaurant. She was very knowledgeable and seemed to sincerely enjoy her job. We decided to just share the steak and egg combo, we asked our server if that would be okay, she said yes. They do have Tiramisu French Toast which looked very delicious and recommended by our server. I highly recommend this place for breakfast or lunch. I have nothing bad to say about this place. Love the mismatched dishes and mugs they use. It gives the place a homey feel. Decor is eclectic. Staff is very friendly and food is exceptional! I came here to finally grab breakfast at this place because I seen it but never had the chance until this past Sunday. I was worried I wouldn't find parking but since I came in the early morning, I got a parking spot in the small plaza it's in. My wife decided to join me and the moment we walked inside a worker told me no outside drink. I was carrying a coconut water can so I just went to put it back in the car since it wasn't that big of a deal but most places I go to doesn't mind. We got seated inside where the dining room was and we thought it was a nice place. It's not that big so you're closer to other customer. I started off with their French Toast berries and banana and my wife went with their chicken chilaquiles. My wife asked what sauce does the chilaquiles uses and our waitress said they use both red and green sauce. The food came out quick and we started eating it. I thought the French toast was okay but I don't think it was worth the price they were charging for it. My wife said she really like the chilaquiles more than the other place I took her yesterday. Reducing down to three stars because the customer service was rude. I ordered one last time after posting this review to see if I could make it 5. The kitchen took the time to write out the ingredients on the container of hollandaise and then put "the sour part" next to the lemon with a winky face. I'm not new to hollandaise I've been eating it since childhood as it was a staple in my home growing up. There was nothing wrong with saying it felt a bit sour. Sometimes that happens. Came in with a friend looking for a place to grab a bite and have a chance to chat for a bit- first time here. It was a Wednesday around 12:30. There must've been 3 or 4 parties having lunch- mellow, not at all crowded or very busy. Nobody greeted us or was visible on the floor nor was there the usual "wait to be seated" sign ..... so we chose a table towards the back and sat down. We were busy talking and didn't realize how long we were sitting without anyone coming by (it was ok- we were not in a hurry). It wasn't until another party came in that we saw a staff member. She immediately approached them and gave them menus and silverware. I waved for her so she would notice we were there (we were towards the back after all so I figured she hadn't seen us yet- no problem) so she looks at me and from where she's standing says to me "you're supposed to wait to be seated, this is a restaurant" (excuse me?) she then turned around - I presumed to get menus for us- but she didn't come back. So I got up and asked her "does that mean you will not wait on us?" She repeated - you're supposed to wait to be seated- I said but nobody was there and there's no sign so we took a seat. She gave me a dirty look and went to hand me the menus with a very snooty attitude. So I said "if you don't want to wait on us we can just leave" and she said "ok". Put the menus back and turned around. As a previous business owner I was amazed at how the service industry has changed. That young lady does not belong in the service industry at all. She seems quite unhappy and does not represent her employer well. She's actually losing money for the restaurant- other patrons noticed what happened and shook their heads. My friend and I will definitely not come back nor will we recommend a place with such rude service. I'm sure that's neither here nor there for the owners but if the problem keeps repeating itself then they may reconsider- or not! I know restaurants are struggling to find good help, but this girl is not it for this establishment! I would not want her representing my business! That's for sure. read more

My wife and I brought my mother-in-law here for breakfast today. I came here based on the Yelp reviews, but I will not be coming back. We first ordered double lattes. The lattes were hot, which was nice but they had a slight sweetness which I initially I couldn't determine why. My wife stated it tasted like french vanilla, which did seem correct. I have yet to go to a coffee shop, order a latte and it contain anything other than espresso and milk, unless it is a flavored latte which this wasn't. My wife and mother-in-law split an order of pancakes and fried chicken but substituted waffles for the pancakes. The chicken tenders were basically a pre cooked chicken strip that was warmed. The waffle was a premade Belgian waffle similar or maybe exactly the same as what Costco sells. My wife asked for a side of berries and bananas, which was a small cup which we later realized was $8! Normally a waiter would let a customer know of an extra costs like that when asking for a side that is not listed on the menu. We expected to pay for it, but that was overly expensive. I ordered the Hemingway Benedict with a side of grits. The Benedicts were fine but the grits were bland. I know grits are plain by themselves but normally there is a little effort to add a tiny something on them to dress them up. Lastly, I asked the waitress for the check, she literally slammed it on table, her flat palm making a sound clap as it hit the table, and she walked away not saying a word. My family looked at each other and just had to laugh as we couldn't believe that occurred. The waitress said say thank you when she came back to pick up the credit card and was much gentler when she returned with the receipt for us to sign and state a tip. In the many restaurants I have been to, this may be the 2nd time ever where I leave no tip. I would not recommend coming here. read more

The San Fernando valley has several small cozy breakfast/brunch places that have a limited menu but are worth the visit. Main Kitchen Cafe, in Granada Hills, is one of these places that fits the bill in this category. The restaurant is located on Chatsworth Street and has cafe style tables with umbrellas outside the restaurant. Inside, the seating is limited, but attainable, and the service is superb. Food arrives promptly and the servers are friendly. I have always been an Eggs Benedict addict, so it was not surprising that I ordered the Blackstone Benedict. It comes on a brioche bread (bun type), with crumbled bacon bits and chopped warm tomato, and of course, Hollandaise sauce. For sides, I had the fried potatoes. the brioche bread instead of a muffin is a good change. The poached eggs were perfect. However, the overall dish lacked flavor and tasted bland. That includes the potatoes. Bacon and tomato, in my opinion came in the wrong form and therefore, denied the presentation of texture. Whole tomatoes fresh or grilled, with bacon strips is the way to go. Often, simple is better. And this benedict needs a third ingredient that must be green, say spinach, asparagus, etc. This will also give added taste and needed overall color to the dish. And the potatoes need to be modified to have, say rosemary, thyme or some other herb to enhance flavor. Please do not take these constructive comments the wrong way. The sandwich was just ok, you couldn't really make out the chorizo in there and the egg seemed overcooked. The blueberry ricotta pancakes, the main reason for this excursion, was awful. It was tough, hard to cut into, almost like it was old and just reheated. I'm not sure if there was ricotta in the batter and the ricotta sauce on top was bland and not creamy at all. I poured some of the syrup that was in the table all over the pancakes so I could eat it and even the syrup was bland, watery and almost had no sweetness to it. The only thing I didn't like at all was the flavor of their sausage? in the burrito, it wasn't good, but otherwise it was a nice chubby & tasty burrito. The French toast was yummy, nice thick pieces of bread with syrup, berries & toppings on the side. The banana bread was yummy too, nice big piece with good flavor. Busy with her phone, she lifted her face, looked at me, and went back to her phone. Completely ignored my greeting as if I was not even there. The cook looked at me blindly and said nothing. Maybe they didn't hear me so I said hello out loud, a couple of time more. Nothing! A second server comes out of the back carrying a bucket of something. She approached and looked at me and said "She's on a break"--with already an attitude. No hello nor welcome. No greeting nor welcome but she served up a whole platter of attitude. She took a menu, walked past by me, rolled her eyes and led me to a table. I said "I'm good" and walked out. Wouldn't be nice to acknowledge your customer when they walk through your door--even if you are on break? Will it hurt you so much if you just acknowledge someone who said hello to you?! I appreciate the fact that they have veggie sausage/plant based options. The pancakes were small but absolutely amazing. I went with the speciality breakfast because I wanted something basic and really liked that you can order a side of mini pancakes instead of getting bread. The service was friendly, attentive, and positive. Overall, I gave 3 stars, I was not impressed with the food, service, or ambiance, pretty standard breakfast and experience. I have been going here since they opened in GH and I always order the French toast until one day I noticed the middle of the bread is wet and soggy. When I told the waitress they cooked it more and returned a very dry worse than before French toast that I would never serve to anyone if I were the chef. It's disgusting, disrespectful and insulting to give a customer this treatment after he/she paid full price. I thought it was an isolated incident but it kept happening over and over the next few weeks ( I went there twice a week) I know they know how to cook it cause I"ve been going there for years ordering the same thing cooked by the same chef/owner? So why do this? I give them more than good tips.
